- Special thanks goes to my friend Joe Britton for his transcription. If you would like the transcription email Joe joe.britton@hotmail.co.uk
The guitarist that originally recorded this solo is Frank Gambale. I consider him one of the best players in the world. You can find out more about Frank at his website www.frankgambale.com
Man that was amazing! I wonder how many players can do Gambale and Holdsworth so perfectly? You are one of a kind for sure!
Derryl is one of the world's truly virtuoso guitar players, there's no doubt about that. He's a great teacher, too!
The licks that slurped the net! haha great job man!
What?? I didn't even know this was possible.. I always dreamed of playing this solo. You did a great thing here.
Thank you! BTW, there's one other guitar player that recently covered this solo on youtube. I forget his name but I'm sure you can find the video.
Amazing my friend!!!
Gorgeous playing Derryl.. one of my favorite Gambale solos from one of my all time fave albums, That was sick! 🔥🔥🔥🔥😎🎶🎶
Awesome playing!
Excellent work, you nailed it with every small nuances man!
Derryl, I agree with your comment about Frank Gambale, - " I, consider him , to be one of the best players in the world.">> I, consider you as one of the best players in the world. I don't hold a candle, to you or Frank, but I am good enough to know a virtusioist & master , when I hear and see one, and you are both a master & virtuoso, of electric jazz fusion, & very well done dissonance jazz, very smooth , ( not smooth jazz) - you flow in & out of key & interwine
various modalities, sooo smooth.
Incredible
Wow.. Finally... I was searching for the playthrough of this solo.. And I just found it.... I don't know how I will thank you...

Such fire in these recordings. Well played.
Spectacular, Derryl! BTW, I’m really enjoying your new Hybrid Picking Spread Triads course. I’ve just scratched the surface of your mega pack. What a comprehensive compilation of helpful instruction and information that thing is!
Great to see you playing this Derryl. Awesome job. On fire here fella!
I plan on covering the Holdsworth solo that follows next but I need to take a break right now.
OMG perfect 🔥🔥🔥

Amazing job Derryl! Maybe one day I’ll be able to do that!
With your technique/speed it shouldn't be a problem : )
Nicely done, brother!
Great playing, Derryl! It had to be you! 😀
hey, isn't that a song? "It had to be you" LOL!
Crazy Man!!!!!
good job !
Well, at least we all finally know where Guthrie got most of his chops and "style" from - Frank Gambale's playing!! LOL! Seriously out of the 2 solos, I'd say you look like you were struggling with Frank's solo much, much more than Alan's solo Bro! 😉 Frank's Solo is truly a phenomenal piece of staccato Rock Fusion improvisation truly displays his fiery mastery of economy picking. Great job on the transcription Darryl!! 👍👍👍😎 P..S. - If I may make a humble request during this crazy "shelter in place" mania - PLEASE do a similar transcription video for the 2 solos on the song "Hey T-Bone" (from Truth in Shredding) with Brett Garsed and Shawn Lane. That would be awesome Bro! Thanks in advance! ❤✌ P.P.S - Everyone, check this video out if you want to see Frank at his best doing some killer jazz Rock fusion soloing, just phenomenal! 👍- ruclips.net/video/h7T9fuf1bLE/видео.html
That tunes actually off of “Centrifugal Funk”, but “Truth In Shredding” is a better album in my opinion...sorry to plug myself on Gabels awesome channel but Check our my Playthrough/transcription of “New Boots” if you get a chance!
DAMN!!!
would love to see all three solos from "So What" from the Truth in Shredding album
Could you play some guitar solo from Shawn Lane MVP Centrifugal funk ?
Super
But a video with your style?

it will be fun and work getting that up to speed - it will give ya something to do for a while - thanks for the transcribe
Fantastic playing...check out my Playthrough and transcription of Gambale’s “New Boots” solo if you get the chance!
Insanity. Great work.
But the real question here what modes are used on this solo? Apart of the Chromatiic and Mixolidian
Book a lesson with me and we'll talk about it.
@@derrylgabel Haha! Very clever propaganda
KILLER
100/100
🤘🎶👌🎸
- what is/are,most problematic hands/fingers movements on guitar
during chords changes of course?
Your top 10 :)
Such an missed song! Please do the Holdsworth solo next-FLAT OUT KILLER
I actually prefer the Holdsworth solo over this one but I did it to show folks that I can play other styles besides Allan. It's on my to do list.
Next do Allan's solo!
it's on my list : ) Gotta take a break for a bit though.
Wow! How difficult is this compared to Allans stuff?
I totally understand!
Well, I naturally play the way Allan does so usually once I have an Allan solo memorized it takes me 1 to 2 weeks to get it up to tempo. The Metal Fatigue solo only took a couple hours because it's a relatively easy solo and it's short. I use to play Frank's style many years ago ( look at some of my earlier videos ) but just stopped to focus on other things. This solo, once I had it memorized took me 3 weeks to get up to tempo. Another cover that took a while was the Wayne Krantz "One of Two".
They have the tab for Allans solo on the Unreal Allan Holdsworth group on FB
USE OF THEORY
So
Amazing. You covered both Holdsworth and Gambales solos to that tune. I love you for that.
Spot on, Derryl !
I've listened to T.I.S. ever since it came out in 1990 and it's by far my favorite fusion guitar album, ever. This is the 1st time I've heard anybody cover a track from it and you managed to match FG not only note-for-note in alternate picking, but also sweep-for-sweep ! Love the sound of the Kiesel Vader, also. Are you using Lithium, Beryllium or Holdsworth pickups ?
Anyway, big thumbs up and all the BEST.
I'm using the Kiesel Holdsworth bridge pickup. Once I take a break for a while I will cover the Holdsworth solo that follows. I'm using a Fractal Audio Axe FX XL Plus as my preamp and FX. Thanks for your comments!
One of the greatest fusion guitar solos of all time. But the song is shit, sorry.
