Man, now I'm looking at my older favourite RTS. Specifically, a certain one involving some ring is catching my eye...
Battle for middle-earth?
Do an EaW video
Forces of corruption is super balanced... as the Empire
I knew you were a frodo, thought you might be used to your ring being destroyed.
Badrats?
Ahh yes the Great Covenant Teleportation Skirmish of Arcadia. It was notable for the simple fact that the UNSC Commanders exclaimed, and I quote, "This is bullshit. This map sucks. They are cheesing Locusts."
Ecksdee
Only true covenant tactic is to build 2 scarabs and wreak Shit while glassing everything with a fully upgraded laser
Dr.ChickenNugget That’s what the Covenant would do,
You forgot the engineers, those are key
problem with the double scarab strat is that they are slow af. The best army to build will always be full banshee/hornet. Your opponent can have superior firepower, but if you never engage them head on then it doesn't really matter.
I personally just do a really stupid mix of units to see if I win, like vampires and engineer's
Vampires + Hunters against the Chieftain is the most obnoxious strat to counter as the UNSC.
No double Scarab, and you call yourself a cheeser
Leader, 2 scarabs, the rest engineers. Leader, 1 scarab, and a shitload of engineers if you're an absolute madman.
cloaked arbiter, walk behind base, drop army of locusts, overdrive ability on their base
Emperor McCarthy suicide grunts*
good alternative but i did in fact mean locusts. when there’s a full army of them, overdrive becomes really good.
@@Thot-Slayer-420 SUICIDE GRUNTS
Some say the suicide grunts are still attacking the supply depot to this day.
Hey vale, you know why you should play Halo Wars 2?
One word. Artillery.
Only
goddammit xD
Artillery Only Anders is bae for that
Blisterback op nerd
Raid isp again
"Only 3 or 4 minutes"
A Wild Sea Pig h
Well he did last like what 7? Just not with the outcome he expected lmao
The truth is, the game was rigged from the start
Legendary ai cheats
Aint that a kick in the head
Oh, that Ranger with the big iron.
Marty Robbins... I like it.
W H A T I N T H E G O D D A M N
We all know that making it so that your AI cheats to gain resources instead of making it competent is an excellent way to add longevity to your console strategy game.
Almost every strategy game does this???
Remmy SC and its dumb
Remmy SC And this makes it okay?
No, that doesn't make it ok. But it makes your argument moot.
Dennis19901 I mean let’s look at it:
StarCraft: No one plays against AI.
Total War: Doesn’t have infinite resources.
Total Annihilation: You have infinite resources, your production is controlled by the rate at which the resources come in.
Supreme Commander: Lets you go under the hood and choose how much/how little/if even the AI cheats.
Empire Earth: Nope.
Age of Empires: Nope.
Empire at War: Nope.
Warcraft 3: Only lives on due to the insane modding scene.
Turns out insane longevity is...generally due to good design decisions or modability.
So total war Medieval but all your battles are decided by an EU4 battle simulator
If everything is overpowered then everything is balanced
Perfectly balanced as all things should be
This
battle for middle earth is also a well balanced gem of a game would love to see another great video like this on it :)
dang, i wondered how long it would take for someone to know which game i was talking about in my pinned comment :)
that halo wars and age of empires was what got me started on games that make me want to blow my brains out like CK2 with AI that beat 5000 men with 700........help me
Problem with bfme2 is that the AI always know where you are, all the time, build a small Base in the corner and 2 minster later your being spammed with tower guards and ithilian rangers
Archers!!!!!!
why would you not just edit airport into AI instead of adding a whole edit line explaining how it autocorrected?
it is kinda BS that the legendary AI doesn't use any superior tactics, it jsut starts off with more in general and spams in the beginning
i remember just rushing a base next to theirs because they don't expand to the bases near them and i just built up from there and won.
Buckin Bronco legendary is not the hardest. The adaptive AI setting is the best it learns from you. The more you win the harder it gets plus it uses your tactics against you
Buckin Bronco well here are the differences (as far as I'm aware)
Easy- 30/60 second player head start (ai will do nothing in this time) build stuff one at a time with a large delay between building something new, won't build super units.
Normal- similar to easy but 30 second delay, builds stuff one at a time with no delay, will build super units after 30 minutes of game time.
Hard- no head start, builds normally, will tend to rush, will build super units after 20 minutes.
Legendary- similar to hard but has double starting funds. Will constantly build and upgrade units, will attack in force after 5 minutes. Will build super units asap.
Think to note is the AI will often produce set starting units based on leader, even if these units don't fit that leaders strengths (cutter will build tanks and rarely elephants, forge will build infantry and air units and Anders will build infantry and gremlins) also they won't build counter unit's to whatever you have they tend to go for a more balanced army.
you mean like every other builder game ever? yeah screw this game in paticular for not being the only one to have superior AI on harder difficulties
there was a thread saying that on legendary, AI gets 33% more supplies, builds 50% quicker, does 33% more damage and only takes 75% of damage. in a game that you can only build a base one building at a time, in predetermined positions thats kinda a big killer.
i guess im soo used to play Command and Conquer Generals where you can build however you like, and the AI on hardest setting builds at a reasonable rate. might be easy to win but it is a 15 year old game
Please just keep playing halo wars it’s hilarious
Civilization Artillery only, is it possible?
yes start the game in the modern era and spam artillery what building a granary or basically anything for our citys population nope ARTILLERY ONLY
Artillery is prioroty above mere humans, artillery is the next evolution of mankind.
HAIL GUSTAV THE RAILWAY GUN
warriors at start is needed if not gandhi (no nukes)
I almost never use vehicles as the covenant. Mostly because I need healing and vampires to deal with the hornet spam. Locusts are fun until you realize there made of paper and canister shot destroys them in one hit.
In maps like frozen valley if you go warehouse warehouse temple warehouse factory and make an infantry unit and put it into reactor you can send your leader to enemy base and flood them with locusts before they get tanks or anything up
Locusts are support units. A mass of Vampires and Hunters/Wraiths creates a stalling force that can't be ignored by any units that aren't Covie Heroes or giant ass bugs. While they're busy being a horrendous distraction that won't just die you have 2 or 3 Locusts trot on in and snipe all the turrets/unit producing building from halfway across the map.
Bob Kun you read my mind. I usually go for the enemy base right by the reactor and build an expansion right there and I take the reactor by my base or if it’s by my ally’s base and he hasn’t taken it already I take it so I can build a much more sophisticated force faster
Halo wars 1 is better than the sequel, halo wars 1 sees you craft a great army and use it to destroy your enemy, in halo wars 2 you craft your master army and then watch half of it die in an instant when someone uses a leader ability which causes you to have to streamline and mass produce your armies like your Joseph Stalin’s and people are just another number
Do you play AoE3 perchance.
In some of my short (2hr) games, I've used about 1000 troops easy.
If you know how to split your army it's not really an issue. Leader powers are heavily telegraphed in HW2 vs HW1 mac blast or odst spam.
yeah also you got power powerful heals to negate the leader abilities
Bingo Flamingo you just have to be intelligent with it. Lot more aspects to the game. And it’s 100 times better if you play competitive and actually know what you’re doing.
Nah HW2 is so much more balanced, you just need to know how to split your army or use other tactics to minimize damage from leader powers. Also, just sitting around and trying to max your army without putting any kind of pressure is not a very good strat
Man. I appreciate the exposure to the game, but this hurt to watch. It was pretty funny though so good on ya.
Just some small pointers tho:
1)Theres a teleporter to get you to the other side of the map quicker for a rush on Fort Deen.
2)You should ideally build warehouses before any unit production building, espcially if youre going temple first. (Arby Recomended build would be WH, Temple, WH, WH, while building suicide grunts and upgrading to Citadel when possible to go into double summit/single summit shield/ single summit WH - then transition to banshees/vampires/full rage build depending on the situation of the game)
3)If your suicide grunts get stuck, try moving local/all units instead of moving them individually to get them "unstuck".
4)If ya gonna play arby - rage :)
5)If ya gonna play arby - rage :)
6)If ya gonn.. look arby rage is the most broken thing in this game. Literally the meta is shaped by arby rage. Thats why D-bombs are so important, thus why UNSC is so important in a teams game, and why warthogs arent overly broken if theres an arby on the enemy team, and heck even tanks need to save there cannies for an Arbiter and ensure they hit on target, otherwise arby can just rage it all down one by one while healing off of it. A good arby anyway.
7) Most importantly- dont take what Im saying seriously cuz its an old game anyway and it doesnt really matter. Im just talking about it cuz I love this game and even if it is dead, its a treat to share my knowledge of the game to whomever reads this to the end :) If youre interested in great halo content, I reccomend MarcoStyle, Kihz, LimitzHalowars, and metaloidmonkey. Even I have two vids up on my channel of some mid tier gameplay, though its rough around the edges.
secret 8th pointer: Have fun.
Older RTS that no one talks about? How about Command & Conquer: Generals
Too good to be mentioned these days. Contra 009 is releasing soon tho!
AND ZERO HOUR
Supreme commander?
How to win using the covenant against UNSC legendary A.I.
1. Get your leader into a position located close to an enemy base without being in combat range.
2. Build Jackals - Five to Four squads.
3. Build Hunters - Three to Four squads.
4. Continue to send squads against targeted base.
5. Focus all research into Jackals and Hunters.
6. Once dominance has been established, focus all other resources into Vampires (Anti-Air Unit)
7. By now, you should be able to deal with any enemy unit they can throw at you, so either spam these three units, or save up for a Scarab.
XX XX I'll try it.
+Person Guy
How did it work?
Legendary is fucking easy, rush with arby, get the arby upgrade (forgot the name but not the rage one the one that reflects damage) before you get to their base should also mention you're only going to be building the temple which is first then supply pads, either slash or rage down any enemy they produce and use suicide grunts to destroy basically everything. Easy
Halo wars if “the difficulty is lowered”
The anti vehicle turret is the farthest shooting in halo wars 1, commonly used for base rushing because the extended range
Phrase of the day: “It’s the map”
I remember my favourite tactic was to play Anders, and rush her super unit while my team held off the enemy. Once I started building them, that was it.
In fact it seems most games I played revolved around cheesing units to counter what your opponent is currently cheesing, and then cheesing something else to counter the counter, until one of you out maneuvers the other. Also, whoever got super units first would just win.
Locus spamming is the only Covenant strat worth doing. Scarabs are memes. I miss Halo Wars :(
3 star brute chieftan?
it’s still not the prophet (the real best leader)
Fucking space beam dude
I don't REGRET this... But it is the TRUTH.
Flies out of nowhere, teleports either 2 scarabs and a shit ton of engineers behind your base, or nothing but locust who overdrive your base to nothing in 10 seconds.
@@goldenhedgehog9 Perfectly Balanced
@@benalor1973 i see what u did there
artillery only bfme 2
Archers!!!!!
"You know what to do"
I love spamming cyclops because they look like a pack of dudes ready to punch the hell out of a tank. It’s funny when a horde of the are walking to the enemy base
"Here, let me show you how broken the Covenant are."
*loses*
XD dude I spend 2 hours just toying with the AI as they send wave after wave of scarabs at me.
Good to see I'm not the only one.
If you wanna do older RTS games, try R.U.S.E.
L S not sold on steam anymore unfortunately:(
Or Wargame by the same dev.
RUSE is available from Gamestop still, I think. They gave me a Steam key anyway.
L S Ahh RUSE, bought it years back with all its DLC, not sold on steam anymore unfortunately but it’s in my library so I can still re-live the good times.
Yes, RUSE was a really fun game, still is.
when i played Halo Wars, i never felt that either "side" had any particular unfair advantage over the other.
certain leaders, not necessarily on the same "side", became a bit overpowered when their unique traits were used in conjunction, but that is kind of the point in having this kind of game with multiplayer: finding a leader that you like to play as, find other people you like to play with, and having fun playing the game.
an example would be when a friend of mine played cutter, and went almost entirely infantry with a few cobras, while i was playing the prophet, and used a mix of hunters and vampires.
if our opponents went for Scarabs or Vultures, he knocked them down to size and provided targets for them to waste time killing, while i brought in the glassing beam and vampires to finish them off, while our combined armies dealt with their reinforcements. not a perfect strategy, but it got the job done.
i loved playing against my brother, the only strategy he ever employed was using the humans super units, odsts, grizzlys, and hawks, to try to overwhelm his opponents mid to late game.
it was so much fun hit and running him, and countering his late game!
in 2v2 I used to have a guy just keep me alive til the 10 minutes mark where I would finally have 3 upgraded vulture and just go across the map and kill everything
Spartans in a tank
No banshee spam, no suicide grunt spam. Such a kind lad
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
Always lock you bases when you are getting attacked. It gives your bases defensive buffs and makes them take longer to kill, allowing you to get more units and resources from them. When you base get to 1/3 to 1/4 health unlock your base so you troops can get out. If the base is locked and gets destroyed, all the units in the base die as well.
i believe thats a myth, locking down your base doesnt give bases anymore health or defense than normal
6:51 that longsword was like *GIT GUUUUUUD*
The battle for middle earth 2 and age of empires 3 were my favourites.
Boi get ready for the 2v2 and the spam of cuirassiers and samurai which the true masters of AoE3 know to use.
10:56
How do I say "I'm screwed" in French ?
"Je suis baisé" or "je suis fichu" in a more polite way ;)
In Québec we would say "chu dans marde" (litt. "I'm in shit")
My favorite Arbiter tactic:
1. Build Temple, then all Factories (upgrade them ASAP)
2. Send Arby over to the enemy base and rush base damage upgrade (I think the first one is Vicious Blades?), then burn down any units with Rage mode
3. Rancho Relaxo in front of his base. Add Jackals to taste.
4. ??????
5. PROFIT.
I have 163 hours on Xbox 360, and still plays to this today

When your arms and legs are shattered, I've still got my TEETH
Fort Deen is actually a great 3v3 map. I remember having standoffs with teams fighting over control of the walls.
I play halo wars 1 and 2, and I now see how op the covonent are in 1. Also, 5:55 or so , RUN, F**KING RUN!
Man that "easier than the kessel run brought back memories, gonna install EAW right now"
Did anyone else get that thing where it says "ad in 5s" in the bottom corner of the screen, but instead of being 5s it started at "ad in 590s" and lasted most of the video? lol
At 10:10 the hornets I love how they showed up
Love the Star Wars Empire at War reference
If you're looking at older RTS games that are underrated, you should look at R.U.S.E 👀
You should upload more Halo Wars. I fucken love the game and still play it after so many years
I love how honest the covenet is with their untis; "Suicide Grunts"
my dude, get that alt texture on for them sexy flame hogs and honour guard wraiths
man I've been wanting to play this game for a while now, but in reality I've been to lazy to launch my xbox 360 and start it up (don't have the steam edition)... I don't know why I want this game specifically, just something about it seems to make me like it more than other RTS games
I have no fucking clue why youtube would recommend this channel to me but ok I like it you win youtube
Starcraft brood war. Its free. start a custom game, go protoss, type The Gathering, and then make Dark Templar and combine them into Dark Archons. Mind control an enemy worker of an opposite race.
And here I thought I was the only one left playing EAW.
Glacial Ravine is absolutely broken with a.i because you garrison the middle towers and stall until you have a massive air army or scarabs.
Two scarabs with a couple locusts are completely broken. The game even encourages you to do it by giving you an achievement if you win with that setup.
The op covenant strat is brute chieftain rush, take out all the rebel bases on the path to an enemy and you get atleast one star while you make brutes
Chieftain with stars = op
Plus brutes are hard to counter
Back when I played on 360 I found that in mp most people just did a single-unit spam, usually their best unit. I often did Hawks as Anders or Grizzly's as Forge. Occasionally I'd do Cobras because their Anti-vehicle damage is great, but you'd always have to have at least a couple Wolverines to defend them from Banshee spams. The spams made me kinda sad because my favourite unit in the game is the Vulture, but you can't ever get enough of them quick enough in mp, making Hawks/Hornets more cost-effective.
Hogs >Everything
PT Scorpions > Grizzlies
Age of mythology is another RTS gem made by the same guys as HW
Age of Mythology is my childhood
you see valefisk you error was believing that the ai was gonna let arbiter do his stuff (& leave your bases unmolested.)
the ai learns from you if you do automatic difficulty for long enough.
they get modifiers, for damage dealing & resistance (which get buffed by higher numbers)
Oh no, now you've got me subbing and binge watching. Great videos man.
THE ENEMY IS PREPARING SCORPIONS
To be fair you went Rush and then decided to give them time to prepare by going the longest route
If Halo Wars proves anything, it’s that the UNSC would’ve won the war if it wasn’t for those damn space ships
Valefisk is now uploading every game I love.
This is heaven

Play it with the prophet if U build enough supply thingies you can use his Beam infinitely and destroy everything
great video Ernie :)

Have you ever played a game called Universe at War: Earth Assault? it was done by Petroglyph and, well at least i thought so, it was quite fun.

Halo Wars Artillery only
You make me wanna play halo wars again
I'm pretty sure you won because of the map :P
Little trick upgrading your units, can ups your chance by 20%, from the baby army in 45 sec.
The arbiter’s naruto run always makes me chuckle.
"Je suis fini" or "Je suis foutu"
i want to remind people that Ernie never existed. nor will he ever exist...
infact just forget that i even said the word Ernie.
hol up
Scarabs are just better locusts that can climb walls, and you dismt even make on... smh.
2 scarabs and a ton of engineers, thats how its done
More Halo Wars.
7 minutes and you destroyed their main base while rushing?? By 6:30 I have a full army of power turret tank

I played this game so much years ago. You definitely got owned. It's pretty easy when you get the hang of it.
The legend of age of empires 3 iroquois are so so well balanced that they're banned from tournaments meantime aztecs are so bad no one plays them
A vbad anon acount What about China consulate with Ottoman support? Or, just to cut out the middleman, Ottoman factories.

I miss when this game was actually populated :(
I love how the ai gets the Uber units within 6 mins
Battle for middle earth ayone?
memyselfandY21 I have it and I’m actually good at it :P
Truth is this is the best rts game of all time
My only comment after 2 min of video, have you played this game more than an hour ? Have you played against people ? I think not but I'll finish the video anyway
This looks perfectly balanced to me you made it seem like it's easy when your dying over and over
If you’re gonna do a series on old and not often talked about RTS games can you do a vid on Company of Heroes? I think it’s a really underground game that not many people know about.
It'd be fun to see you play DoW Soulstorm
