Hey! Thank you for your videos on these trees! I have 7 planted along our fence. Its been about a year, trying to keep them trimmed, in hopes for strong branches. Do you have a current photo/video of yours? I'm interested in how they are filling in.
Hi that video was at a client's house. I do not have pictures but when I google map the adress I see they doubled/tripled in size as it was just over 4 years ago.
Well Damn Matt, just the info I was looking for, THANKS. I have been a landscape architect for 32 years, and love how you did this. Of course I haven't done any of the actual work myself, until recently. I bet they look fantastic now. (I will search you channel for pics). I heard that they will take shearing to about 6-8". You really could espalier them to a degree with wires instead of pruning it all off. I would guess. Don't know. I have a question, I live in FL, where it is nothing but sand. My neighbor across the street might get rid of her +/-15 year old podo's. Would it be hell to dig them up? You think I could split them in half? I water daily and would baby them until established. I dug up a regular Yew, (taxus), four guys plus a wench and it took 1/2 a day, that was in Ohio though, and not podocarpus. So still scared. 220.00 X 15 is more than I can afford, I never made much. THANKS, just wondering what you think. Gallon containers are 30-40 each, and no success with rooting cuttings.
Yea I would want to bother moving 15 year old podocarpus. If they were planted real close that could also make it harder to get out as roots would be tangled
We planted 82 5-6 ft towards the back of the property, nothing holding on either side, a strong wind pushed them and now they are leaning, whats the best option to get these to stand straight considering I cant install the system you have as I have nothing behind or in front, would you suggest placing a rod on each one individually?
Yes I have done that before when there is no wall. You can use the same concept farmers use for there fences & fields. Large steak in the ground at angle on both ends with cable running just like this behind the trees. Extra support you can add a large stake behind evey 4 trees that the cable will also connect to
Your videos are very interesting, my landscaper placed 15 podacarpus last april but with anything holding them, have a wooden fence on the back and now they are turning brown, what can I do? We watered them initially for a month, I live in Fl we just had rainy season in summer but now they are brown. Appreciate your comment thanks!
Im looking at covering a 24' x 3.5' space with Podocarpus and creating a privacy wall/hedge between my skateboard ramp and a vinyl fence. I ordered six ranging from 8-12' tall from Moon Valley (Yes, I know, cha-ching, but installation and delivery are free) and was thinking 4' apart and 2' from the fence. Should I get two more podocarpus and aim for 3' apart for eight total?
Hello - I am planting smaller five gallon podos, 3 feet on center. They have the bamboo stakes in them from the nursery - should I keep those in or add separate stakes in between the plants?
Hi yes if the podocarpus is already taller then the original stakes I always upgrade them when planting. The podocarpus will grow fast and you will want them to grow straight
Hi, will I be able to plant these in ground with a 2ft gap from fence to concrete? With 5g size perhaps? Or will I need to use raised trough-style planters?
@@dieselmxtt I just replaced with taller stakes. Any tips on how you would reinforce the tree stakes without a wall behind them? I planted them in a row without an existing fence/block wall.

Yes 3ft from center is ideal. Will look much fuller faster

Hello! Thank you for sharing your work with us. Are these plant likely to tilt without the cable/pipe installation?
Yes especially if you live in a windy area. they will need some kind of support as they grow fast but can't hold them self up
Hi, will I be able to plant these in ground with a 2ft gap from fence to concrete? With 5g size perhaps? Or will I need to use raised trough-style planters?
Yes that work work fine.
where do you get those stakes for each podo? how tall are the stakes? Looks great
Nursery's or irrigation supply store will usually carry them. You want 10ft long ones. 8 will be to short by the time you put 1-2ft in the ground

When these grow super tall and bend is it ok to leave unstaked at top?
If your talking about not trimming the top, you just don't want them to top heavy
@@dieselmxtt Thanks! That was exactly why I was asking, so I appreciate your response!
How fast will these grow in the shade? I have 2 I'm trying to grow to cover my neighbors second story window. Their backyard blocks a lot of sunlight
Definitely slower in the shade. Probably 6in a month.
How much did it cost buying 15 of them at that height?
Those are about $220 each
@@dieselmxtt thank you
I’m about to plant mine next week how far should I plant them apart and how far from the wall I want to us it as a Privacy wall.
Hi i go 2 ft from wall and 2.5 apart
