    Thanks for the video Paul. I’m going to have to go with Ecwid on this one. Simply because I do a lot of front end coding and I can just download any premade HTML themes. With that being said I can implement the whole Ecwid shopping system including the cart logic just by pasting code. This is great because now I can offer my client subscriptions to manage e-commerce. The price for Ecwid is also amazing. Another feature I love is the pure css customization! Of course you would have to have some knowledge I can’t speak for everyone.

    Great review Paul. I'm looking to restart my ecommerce business and have looked at many of the options available. For the scale of my startup, it came down to Ecwid or Shopify. Your review clearly articulates the similarities and differences between the two on an objective level. As I have experience with Shopify, that's the way I'll go, but I definitely wouldn't discount Ecwid. Enjoy your coffee!

    Thank you for the comparison. Do you think Ecwid can function better when incorporated in a website like WordPress? I want to start an online business and looking at Shopify, it's a little expensive for a startup business especially that they get a small commission from your sales

    • @EcommerceGold
      @EcommerceGold  3 года назад

      No problem, I hope it was helpful. Yes, Ecwid does work better when integrated with platforms such as WordPress. Shopify is more expensive but you get everything in one package and it is generally easier to run on a daily basis, WordPress + Ecwid can be cheaper but you do need to have an understanding of how to run and maintain a WordPress site to get the most out of it.

    Hey Paul, going to try both through your links. Looking to set up my own website for my handmade business. It’s all so confusing and the transaction fees are confusing - I’m a bit lost! Found this video super informative

    • @EcommerceGold
      @EcommerceGold  3 года назад +5

      Hi Kellie, yes it is quite confusing to start with, especially with how many options are out there.
      Transaction fees come in two different forms:
      1. Payments gateway fees, take PayPal for example, for every payment you receive they charge a fee for processing that payment, which is 2.9% + 30c so on a $100 transaction they would charge $3.20.
      2. Additional transaction fees that Shopify charge, these are charged on any payment received through a third-party payment gateway such as PayPal. On the Shopify basic package, this is 2%, so using the $100 example, $2 of that sale would go to Shopify.
      So if you had a $100 sale and you was using the Shopify Basic package and PayPal, you would pay $3.20 to PayPal and an additional $2 to Shopify.
      If you use Shopify Payments to process the transaction, you don't pay the 2% transaction fee, just the payment processing fee that is similar to that of PayPal.
      Ecwid don't charge any additional transaction fees.
      Hope that makes sense.

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for the great vid! I currently use Ecwid venture but I’m looking to switch to shopify or the next Ecwid plan. It’s mainly as I’m looking to have individual product listings as at the moment my products are using options for the different football club designs. Is ECWID/shopify really worth the money for SEO tools? I’m not so fussed about the website. Would I generate traffic without adds just through SEO? And if so which ones the better option would you say? Finally, if I was to pick shopify is it free to just create a similar basic home store like the one you can make on Ecwid (as you’ve said it’s more customisable.)
    Thanks so much for your help!

    • @EcommerceGold
      @EcommerceGold  3 года назад

      Hi Liam, no problem and hope it was helpful.
      Out of the two, I would say Shopify is the better for SEO as Ecwid's tools aren't great but as you are already with Ecwid, it might be best to stay with them, especially if your site is already ranking as moving platforms can impact your site.
      Outside of your monthly subscription, you can create a site using one of the free themes on Shopify.

    I really like ecwid so far because of the simplicity and great tutorials and customer support, but the one big let down is you have to create csv files because my dropshipping suppliers don't easily integrate with ecwid like they do with shopify and the other major ecom sites.

    Wanted to see an apples-to-apples comparison, to see how EcWid rated as a standalone site. Assuming that one is Just interested in presenting good ecommerce offerings and Not in providing blog entertainment, would you say that that would bring up to EcWid rating? Also, when comparing Apps, it seemed that you considered only the larger # of apps (of Shopify), instead of perhaps considering the quality and price ROI's of them.

Is there any way to have multiple sizes/prices on one product depending on what size is selected because I cannot find that option. Or do I have to upload each size separately with different prices? I feel like this will make my site look repetitive/jumbled and confusing to have 4 or 5 items with the same picture. Nothing, the only thing that changes is the front end of your site, all of your product listings will stay the same. They may just look a bit different on the front end, depending on the styling of the theme.

      Ecwid is available as an app for Wix (and a plugin for Wordpress) but it can be used on its own, as it has its own website builder.

      @@EcommerceGold Landing Page has header with image and header including the links of the site navigation. When I open the product detail page I still see the same landing page navigation header along with the theme image on top of the product details. I see no option to remove that

      Most ecommerce platforms don't offer that as standard, it usually requires a landing page builder to be installed or editing the theme code.

They will give you FRAUD Orders and then as us to cancel the orders and then charge us charge back fees... Like this they make thousands of dollars in single day... I have all the proof and I have already file a lawsuit against them. Now you will say this my opinion and my experience... I'm not misleading anybody but good luck with your lawsuit. Just as a counter, there are tens of thousands of merchants doing very well on Shopify and I've never heard of what you are claiming regarding the fraud orders and I know people with Shopify stores of all sizes.
      Yes I know people have had bad experiences with Shopify with closure of accounts and charges after closing but I've have also heard of this happening with other platforms along with the likes of PayPal, Stripe, Ebay and Amazon, there are always negative stories out there but there are also lots of positive ones as well.
