Thank you for putting the time and effort into making these videos and finding all this out. Just thank you so much for helping keep our meta alive and finding ways to keep it evolving quickly.
I remember this one time on For Glory, I was playing Shulk and my opponent was a Sonic player and all he would do is run across the stage and grab the ledge, then run across the stage again and grab the other ledge of the stage while constantly taunting in the process. Even with the Speed Art, I could never catch up with him and only managed to stage spike him with a back air once. I cannot express how infuriating it was dealing with this asshole, I didn't have any idea how to ledge punish other than fall off the stage and do upB or Bair; even so, the Sonic player would get back onto the stage before I could execute my attack. I lost by SideB-ing off the edge by accident from my efforts of trying to stage-spike the player, I was so pissed and salty after that disaster of a match, now I finally know how to deal with these kinds of players. THANK GOD THIS VIDEO EXISTS.
I was up against a guy who (no offense) SUCKED at For Glory, but he never gave up. He mained Dr. Mario, Ness, and Meta Knight, while I main Diddy Kong, Yoshi, and Bowser.
This needs to be said, but this guys mic quality and just overall voice work is fucking phenomenal, like its perfect for tutorials like this. Love this guy
I really love your videos, dude. It helps so much for everyone who's new to the competitive scene. Even when I know the technique I still get excited when you upload a video about it.
GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO! Been needing a well made video to show people exactly what you can do with the new mechanics and why edgeguarding in Smash 4 is more interesting than ever. Thank you! The only thing missing from this is mentioning that there is a 1 frame vulnerability whenever a character grabs a stage, and that throwing out a hitbox to catch them when they grab the edge is another way to punish players for trying to recover via grabbing the ledge. Though arguably that's more of an "edge punish" than a ledge punish since the ledge is associated more with situations where someone already grabbed onto the stage and the other is trying to stop them from getting back from the ledge X) I guess that's why.
There really isn't much to know. Doc is significantly slower but stronger than Mario and has a different Down B/Down Air and his Up doesn't go as far. Lucina's sword hits with the same strengh no matter with what part of the sword you hit the opponent. Dark Pit's arrows aren't as "controlable" but do more damage, his side b hits at an slightly different angle and his forward tilt does less knockback. (I think his forward throw might be stronger, not too sure about that one)
These are the main differences: Marth and Lucina -Lucina's blade does equal amounts of damage, no matter what part of the blade connects. Marth's does more at the tip, but hits much harder there. Also, Lucina is slightly shorter than Marth, and Marth has a slightly bigger range. Mario and Dr.Mario -The main difference is that Dr.Mario's attacks are slower but hit harder. Dr.Mario's recovery is also slightly shorter, and he doesn't have the F.L.U.D.D, or any variation of it. Pit and Dark Pit -Like Mario and Dr.Mario, the main difference is that Dark Pit is slightly slower but hits harder. Also, Dark Pit's arrows don't curve as much as Pit's, and unlike the other 4 clones here, their final smashes are very different. Pit's is a barrage of attacks, while DP's final smash is similar to Zelda/Shiek's, but with the Dark Pit staff. Semiclones: Fox and Falco -Falco has slightly more lag time in his attacks, but has better smash capablities. His lazer also doesn't fire as many times, but it stuns the opponent, and his lazer is also slower. Falco also kicks his reflector out, giving it some more range, but your backside is exposed. Link and Toon Link -Toon Link is faster than Link, but some of his attacks are different, like his up smash. On top of this, Link can KO at much lower percentages, and Toon Link is shorter than him. Ganondorf and C.Falcon -Again, Ganondorf is slower but harder hitting than Falcon, but Ganondorf also has Flame Choke, which can be very deadly. On top of this, many of Ganondorf's attacks are shieldbreakers, letting you hit your opponent harder. Falcon also has slghtly better recovery. Hope this helped :3
Dan The Gengar Docs movement is slower not his attack speed. He has the same frame data as Mario besides dair. Dark Pit isn't slower he has the same frame data as Pit. Only his arrows do more damage.
Thanks so much dude for that tip of rolling the stick to stick to the ledge faster, I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure out how pros like m2k do it so effortlessly over and over, I'll practice your way
Good to see Greninja has a duck head advantage, and as for the methods of punishes and combos in the description for him, after looking at them, I imagine them in my head, I feel I could catch them by surprise, this really helps, can't wait to see what more tips and tricks you can find.
Hey Smash Corner, as a Mario Main I really appreciate and love your work. Mario's dash attack also works on most of the cast, and can oddly enough even land a stage spike during certain frames of its long duration.
Jeez, ive just founded myself that the second ledge grab didnt make immune the player, but thanks to you now i know that you can let the opponent grabbing the ledge a second time! Great, this will definitively change my experience in smash ^^
I was able to catch a lot of different ledge tricks in my experience with For Glory, so I'm actually really happy to see it being expanded on. I found myself trumping and not really even noticing xD
Kitten Poptart He always seems to remove the "clones" from the previous games. For example: Pichu, Dr. Mario, Young Link, and Roy were not featured in Brawl (I assume he didn't remove Gannondorf because that's who he mains.) and Lucas and Wolf were not featured in Sm4sh (I'm guessing that keeping a secondary Link is just a thing in the Smash series though). Although her has brought back Dr. Mario and Mewtwo, which many people say Lucario is a clone of, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he brings back Lucas at some point. Also, I'm guessing that in the next Smash game, if there is one, Dark Pit, Lucina, and Dr. Mario might not be brought back.
can you update the list to include DLC Characters? Example: Cloud, Ryu, Bayonetta, And Mewtwo can punish with their Down tilt And D-Smash (not sure about Cloud.)
so characters can actually side-b toward the ledge after falling off and they will grab the ledge instantly. It helps so that you can use a move to cover a ledge option and then trump them if they dont.
Please do a video about the recent discovery of Wii Fit Trainer's "reverse DACUS". I believe this is possible with any character who can crouch, just some better than others.
Something you missed for Mario, his dash attack is a good option to punish this as well, because when it hits, the direction enemies fly is behind and above him, but since the stage is there, BAM stage spike without having to jump off the ledge. Neat mechanic.
I know this video is pretty old but Zelda's Up-B also works against vulnerable opponents that are hanging off the ledge and can actually lead to a kill.
Good stuff! The list you gave does not include Shulk's Forward Smash angled down. With proper spacing, it can hit opponents hanging from the ledge, I believe.
I feel people immediately dismiss Sm4sh's ledge mechanics as fundamentally flawed because edge-hogging was removed. Trumping for a successful edgeguard, IMO, requires a lot more skill to pull off. And it also feels more satisfying despite killing offensive momentum because you have to rely on reads. I hope some Smashers get a viewing of this and see that there is room for improvement.
To those of you wondering Sonic does have some options, his dtilt and dsmash will work, and usmash also works actually. Usmash is probably the best if they're around 70% or higher! but if you're going to play it safe use dsmash instead as it is pretty damn effective too
I may be misremembering, but I think Shulk's nair can hit someone hanging on the ledge if you start it low enough. I'm not talking about jumping off the stage, but from about where you'd throw out a fsmash tilted down. It is a good option if you're running in (if they've regrabbed on their own).
Also for the record, Ambrose, many forward smashes can catch people on the ledge when aimed downward. To compensate, most forward smashes are slightly weaker when aimed downward. Except in Little Mac's case, forward smash aimed downward is MUCH weaker than aimed in a different trajectory.
For all the other Falco mains out there, forward air will hit on the very last frame if you hit the ground while doing that attack. Essentially, if your opponent does not have ledge invulnerability, just jump to the very edge of the stage (but not OFF the stage), do a forward air. If you did it right, the last frame of the attack (the frame that actually has knockback), will send your opponent flying. At around 100% or so, depending on the character, this punish will kill.
Hope you see this^^ Toon Link's Down Smash can sort of spike. Even at 0%!!! We all know Toon links first strike of D-Smash connects into the second hit, but in some cases when Toon Link is standing at the ledge and shields an attack and your character is a bit "inside" of Toon Link the second hit of D-Smash won't connect and you will get launched down and to the left/right. If you are unprepared you can't recover because you need to mash the jump button to even be able to save you. We don't know if it works with every character but it works for Link and Fox. Didn't worked on Bowser, so I assume fat characters can't be spiked by D-Smash. Somebody knows this yet? Or has someone done testing? 2 attacks with guaranteed punishes are Fox dash attack and F-Smash.
um, well the list of moves depends on each character. little mac for example can actually hit a couple characters with d-Fsmash, backside of utilt and upB
Hmm.. Ganondorf has another option for a ledge punish. If you short hop down b close enough to the ledge, you can hit them through the ledge and get the spike from it. You can land on stage with it so no need to go off stage for it. Just expect a punish if you miss cause ending lag on it is horrible.
If you get around to it, you should cover punishing out of rolls! It's probably the thing that I am worse at, at my current skill level, and i'm looking to go to tourneys and such to, so i can keep learning.
I thought L-cancelling was kinda lame but I think wavedashing is awesome. I also like these new ledge mechanics. L-cancelling to me just seemed like a "you pressed a button at the right time, here's a reward" and denying recovery by grabbing the ledge was really anticlimactic and made me feel cheap when I did it to someone. But wavedashing was a great positioning tool that needed correct application to be useful, not to mention it looked super awesome!
Is it me or is trying to run off stage and grabbing the ledge with DK rather difficult i can do it with just about every other character but its difficult with DK can someone give me advice.
3:07 the one problem I have is getting backup to the stage... Since I use Shulk... I end up going down with the opponent or just fall to my death... It's harder than it looks! because shulks up B has one that goes up and the other that goes right or left... That depends on what side your on... I usually wait until there don't move... So an example for this ... If I throw an opponent out and if they don't move I use my R stick to launch them down words... But usually they act after I throw them... I understand how to do it... its just the timing that's hard... Even my friends know how do it, and they say that's the timing that's hard... Because when you do it your also forcing yourself down too! I'm learning how to it... But the timing is hard... If you do it to late you'll fall ... if you do it to early you miss and they'll get the average... So help me what do I do? I need to Learn! Tell me what I should try with my main character? (My main character is Shulk)
I hate when he says:
"Of course everything I've said works on the 3DS version too."
Cause that means the video's almost over...
Ganondorf: Up-tilt.
Good luck landing that shit.
+ImTheDruggernaut only nerds cant land the volcano kick
+ThatIrishBloke15 well i mean you cant cancel out of it and it takes around 3 seconds to do
What a surprise. Diddy is one of the characters who isn't as susceptible to being hit while on the ledge.
Before you know it, he will just completely disappear on the ledge, and get 10 seconds of invincibility after getting off of it
The SEA lol
The SEA Or once you select him and start the match, it will go straight to the Diddy victory screen.
Dynamo
Lol
Dynamo But it does that already
Thank you for putting the time and effort into making these videos and finding all this out. Just thank you so much for helping keep our meta alive and finding ways to keep it evolving quickly.
I could've sworn I've seen you in more than one smash-related video...
GBAer64 I really like smash... lol
Whoah, this video left me kinda.... hanging.
Puns are for buns, huns.
Well look at you chilling.
Puns are for buns, hun.
Then i guess i'm a bun
I love how WFT's ledge animation is pull-ups. #GetFit
Hahaha
Her entire moveset is a thing of genius
But that makes her kind of vulnerable to attacks, if the enemy attacks you right when your head goes above the ledge xD
doesn't matter, did reps
Zak Asis
Its not about winning, its about getting fit. #Getfitorgetout

You! Dong! You're on all videos on RUclips O.o
Ha, I was that Sonic player. Want to try again?
I was up against a guy who (no offense) SUCKED at For Glory, but he never gave up. He mained Dr. Mario, Ness, and Meta Knight, while I main Diddy Kong, Yoshi, and Bowser.

This needs to be said, but this guys mic quality and just overall voice work is fucking phenomenal, like its perfect for tutorials like this. Love this guy
Some forward smashes can be angled down to hit a hanging foe, so might wanna update that list
I considered that. All fsmashes in description must be angled down if possible. I gotta be super clear about everything don't I? :/
My Smash Corner
Yes you do
My Smash Corner Well yeah, you're teaching these things to the viewers
Redd Foxx Valencart Ok, added note in description.
My Smash Corner
Thanks :)
I really love your videos, dude. It helps so much for everyone who's new to the competitive scene. Even when I know the technique I still get excited when you upload a video about it.
Thank you Ambrose for making a video on this. It's what I have been looking for!
Perfect Pivot reference o3o
Nice video as always, Smash Corner~
This is why I love the new ledge mechanics.
Scott Flake i hate the new ledge mechanics
GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO!

I can tell this channel is going to be really popular! Keep up the amazing work!
My Smash Corner, I just wanted to say, your videos are very helpful thanks for making them! I use them all the time! Your my 2nd favorite youtube :D
This channel is fantastic! Hard to believe it is relatively new! keep up the good work!
Thanks so much dude for that tip of rolling the stick to stick to the ledge faster, I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure out how pros like m2k do it so effortlessly over and over, I'll practice your way
This is really good. Hadn't seen a video before but this was high-quality stuff, definitely helped me out and earned a sub, great job man.
SHULK can also use fsmash while tilting it down to hit a majority of the cast!!
Good to see Greninja has a duck head advantage, and as for the methods of punishes and combos in the description for him, after looking at them, I imagine them in my head, I feel I could catch them by surprise, this really helps, can't wait to see what more tips and tricks you can find.

I didn't notice back when you uploaded this, but I'm so glad you included Luigi's down taunt there.
I love how you incorporated perfect pivoting(which you taught us) in this :)
It's definitely an interesting mechanic, good to see what moves can work in this video.
I like how you left a list of the moves that can hit off a ledge. Thanks!
You should update the description to accommodate for DLC characters.
this is so amazing these videos are honestly the best
Damn nice! This brings a whole new perspective to edge-guarding.
Jeez, ive just founded myself that the second ledge grab didnt make immune the player, but thanks to you now i know that you can let the opponent grabbing the ledge a second time! Great, this will definitively change my experience in smash ^^

If Lucas was in, oh those Up Smash stage spikes would be GLORIOUS
Why did sakurai remove him WHY😢
Kitten Poptart He always seems to remove the "clones" from the previous games. For example: Pichu, Dr. Mario, Young Link, and Roy were not featured in Brawl (I assume he didn't remove Gannondorf because that's who he mains.) and Lucas and Wolf were not featured in Sm4sh (I'm guessing that keeping a secondary Link is just a thing in the Smash series though). Or Roy with his Up Smash spikes. We'll never forget.
Lucas is gone because Ness owns his moves now :D
I think Dr. Mario will stay in Smash, he has been in 2 games and isn't so clony, but Dark Pit and Lucina will probably leave.
Thanks for the tutorial dude this is extremely helpful! I'll be sure to try this out soon ;] can't wait for the next tutorial keep up the great work!
This is probably my favorite thing that they updated in the new Smash.
Your videos are always so helpful! Keep them up!

I believe this is possible with any character who can crouch, just some better than others.
Her what? I thought all her smashes were horrible.
Every character can crouch lol
Pretty sure you mean crawl
Reverse DACUS? What do you mean by that? Is it anything like BDACUS in Brawl (Buffered DACUS)?
***** Kooby Skeeter Mania Sean-Patrick is talking about this:
ruclips.net/video/Nlwdytuc0S0/видео.html
Kooby
Lol yeah I meant crawl.
I can't pull it off so I'd like a tutorial.
I like you because you show the 3ds version too unlike other people
Something you missed for Mario, his dash attack is a good option to punish this as well, because when it hits, the direction enemies fly is behind and above him, but since the stage is there, BAM stage spike without having to jump off the ledge. Neat mechanic.
So... I heard Lucas's up-smash works against someone on the ledge. True My Smash Corner ?
Yep, it's true.
+Grant Witherspoon I secondary Lucas! This is a good tip. Thanks! =)
I used to main him
No way! That's real useful! .3.
+My Smash Corner does mewtwo punish?
It's even told in the loading screen tips
I know this video is pretty old but Zelda's Up-B also works against vulnerable opponents that are hanging off the ledge and can actually lead to a kill.
Good stuff! The list you gave does not include Shulk's Forward Smash angled down. With proper spacing, it can hit opponents hanging from the ledge, I believe.
This channel is awesome!
I can really see you work hard on your videos!!! Keep it up!!!😆
I feel people immediately dismiss Sm4sh's ledge mechanics as fundamentally flawed because edge-hogging was removed. Trumping for a successful edgeguard, IMO, requires a lot more skill to pull off. And it also feels more satisfying despite killing offensive momentum because you have to rely on reads.

And my personal favorite ledge punish, Kirby's side B when fully charged. A very satisfying kill, but seriously difficult to pull off.
Luigi's taunt?
I haven't played or seen Sm4sh gameplay in a while so its really trippy when someone air-dodges multiple times or recovers after air dodging lol
What does he mean when he says "A stage with a lip" at 1:20
Pacman hanging on the ledge is so cute. He's so worried, and I like how Charizard peeks up because he wants to see what's going on.
Amazing video as always!
OMG this combined with Ness's PK Fire ledge cancel can be deadly. Especially because he can do it faster than just going for the ledge
Also for the record, Ambrose, many forward smashes can catch people on the ledge when aimed downward. To compensate, most forward smashes are slightly weaker when aimed downward. Except in Little Mac's case, forward smash aimed downward is MUCH weaker than aimed in a different trajectory.
link/toon link's bombs are a potential way to hit people on ledges, just very precise.
Your videos are amazing. Keep up the great work, and thanks a lot!!
great video as always man!:D
Fantastic vids, keep em coming!
Hope you see this^^
Toon Link's Down Smash can sort of spike.
I found out that you can cancel the side b with Mario and Captain Falcon so you can grab the ledge so that can be a alternative way of ledge trumping.
Toon Link's second forward smash can ledge punish as well. Hard to time and place but does hit.
For Robin, there's Arcfire.
What about Levin Sword toss, short hop Dair/Bair, and dtilt?
You may want to add that the finisher to Kirby's jab is one of the compatible moves.
Amazing video as always.
Ganon's fsmash can be aimed downwards, which can hit characters on the ledge if spaced properly.
All characters can aim their side smashes up or down.
KonjikinoSora Not all
not all, and not all of the side smashes can hit someone on a ledge
um, well the list of moves depends on each character. little mac for example can actually hit a couple characters with d-Fsmash, backside of utilt and upB
Can someone tell me how to tech a ledge spike? i still have no idea how to tech that.
Idk if you know, but if you use Ness' side+b as soon as you get off the ledge you'll instantly grab the ledge.
This video was actually helpful. Although because I don't have a game cube controller I can't tilt easy.
Sheiks down tilt to up smash works.
Lucas has an awesome ledge punish with his down smash.
Something to point out here is that Mario's f-air can actually get the opponent at the ledge. It just takes good timing to pull it off.
Dude thx a lot. Your videos are great advice. Please do keep them up :)
Epic fart performed at the end. My Smash Corner
Update for new DLC characters?
I would be interested if you covered the "Table Flipping" technique that Cobb's discovered. :)
Are you going to update the list with the new dlc
Hmm.. Ganondorf has another option for a ledge punish. If you short hop down b close enough to the ledge, you can hit them through the ledge and get the spike from it. You can land on stage with it so no need to go off stage for it. Just expect a punish if you miss cause ending lag on it is horrible.

Is it possible to do ledge trumping while standing on the edge but looking towards the stage?
Doesn't ness's bair hit them as well at the ledge..?
Thanks for the break down. Very helpful
Wow this was before Lucas came out, *tears*
links down tilt can spike right? So am i able to spike a opponent on a ledge?
Nice and GlitchxCity. :0
Is it me or is trying to run off stage and grabbing the ledge with DK rather difficult i can do it with just about every other character but its difficult with DK can someone give me advice.

I'm learning how to it... But the timing is hard... If you do it to late you'll fall ... if you do it to early you miss and they'll get the average...
So help me what do I do?
