It’s something I noticed right away too, the level design is immaculate, from the structure/pacing to the wayfinding and way it teaches and reinforces new concepts at a rapid pace. Honestly it’s arguably a better designed game than galaxy 1 or 2 imo. Galaxy 1 will always be one of my favorite games and I much prefer the art direction, music and world of galaxy but Astro is just perfectly paced and there’s nothing that feels like filler which I can’t really say about Galaxy, Galaxy is largely free from filler but some levels definitely felt like afterthoughts and don’t have the level of care as Astro Bot. It always amazes me that Astro Bot always seems to know everything a player will try and has a reaction or response to it, Mario does this well too but not nearly to the same degree.
I do think it is a better game than Galaxy 1 and 2 because it's more modern, but it's heartbreaking to say that. 💔😢 Galaxy 1 is life. Though Galaxy 1 has better music imo, but Astro Bot's is more modern again like the dubstep Boi. Ughh.. How times have changed.
@@anthonypacillas4830 if astro bot is better than mario galaxy,it definitely is not because it is more modern, and especially not because of dubstep lol.The best game is the one with the best gameplay.
The thing you said about variety makes me think back to Crash Bandicoot Warped, a lot of people say it had too much variety, but look at modern games, it's the same gameplay over and over again, Astro Bot shows that a bit of variety can be a very good thing.
At 39, I feel like a goddamn kid playing this. I have never felt so nostalgic playing a game before. The water level made me feel like the first time playing Mario 64 water level. This game is priceless😢
The more I think about this game, the more impressed I get I can't believe they were able to fit so many mechanics in one game and it never feels predictable. Most game engines can only fit one style of gameplay. This has dozens😅 An instant classic, it's just pure fun

The level design totally makes this game. Playroom had a lot of the same mechanics and enemies, and even a few more that are not in Astro Bot, but it didn't feel half as good.
AGREED 100%. I actually bought the game cause my kid nostalgia of Mario Galaxy, yeah they may have same mechanics but Team Asobi really evolve those mechanics. Everything of level design makes it so fun and exciting that Im sure everyone just wanted to keep playing, thats just how good what is. Exactly that mouse level with the mix of good background music just gave me goosebumps of "wow, this is fun, this is really fun" shrink and explore give a new exciting perspective , also the casino with the VR mechanic. Team Asobi really took their time, may not be the longest game ever but I really loved their ideas of gaming, its better a genuinely and hearted fun game.
I'm playing now. I have not much time, so I still playing it (I bought it one day. In my defense, I'm playing "Sea of stars" too, and some days I play one, others the other), but every time is like the game says to me "just relax and enjoy". Then I keep smiling all the way through. My son is playing it too (he is 8 years old), and maybe is because we are sharing the experiencie, but he is so motivated with it. We talk a lot about the game, where we are in our respectives games, and so on. It's just a great game, and one of the best (if not the better one) exclusive ps has right now.

It’s an amazing game because it’s a Nintendo game. It uses the same philosophy as the Mario games (kishotenketsu) and I’m glad team Asobi made this game to prove you can make excellent and fun games with fewer and better developers. It’s a breath of fresh air in a world full of online service shooters
I do think it’d be fun for the hub world to have something where you can mess around with each of the special mechanics once you unlock them, perhaps to unlock more bots or just to have fun. Like an addition on the costume room
What brilliant is in contrast to varied and complex level design how basic Astro is. At his core he's two button character like old-school Mario. That blank slate is so Maluable and adaptable, so good at what it does.
There's a level in the game where you go up the tree trunk reminds me of the level in Gex Deep Cover Gecko where you go up the beanstalk and the Bathouse level where Astrobot gets big when he soaks up the water, reminds me of the King Fu Theatre level in Gex Enter The Gecko where you fight those ninjas in terms of atmosphere qnd environment. Overall, you can tell Astrobot was inspired by Mario Galaxy but does things with formula to create something unique and refreshingly fun.
Thank you for this video. I hope there are more videos on the game design of Astro Bot. I'm surprised I found one. The new mechanics feel like a minigame in a sense.

@Trench-coat Oh ok. The game definitely looks really fun, but I dont have a Playstation and there's not really any other Playstation game that interests me, so I'd pretty much be spending 560$ for one game. It probably won't get ported to anything either if I had to guess.
