Frame sliders protect only from drops. They will damage the frame on a bigger accident.

If not designed properly, they do more damage than protect. Design and right material usage is important

I crashed my 2019 Dominar, day before yesterday in Bangalore local market roads because of the rains. Lost traction while taking right turn on 10-15 kmph speed. Stock leg guard took to the duty and absorbed the impact, got bent, rear brake pedal also got bent, nothing more happened. Next Day got them replaced for Rs. 627/- along with labour costs. And back again on roads swiftly. after that lot of people told me to get a aftermarket crash guards with frame sliders and all. I told them, its not my first bike or first crash. the stock leg guard works well and costs very cheap for replacements. Dominar, Pulsars, KTMs, all of their leg/crash guards comes at just Rs.162 MRP....!!!

well said, i too have very similar experiences driving on bengaluru roads. had multiple crashes on my 2014 Duke 200 and stock guard saved my bike and me all the times from major damages to bike hefty repair bills to my pocket. Felt the stock guards are too small many times, but they always worth it.

    • @leoncelestinedave

Radiator guards are definitely important. On bikes that you take off road you definitely need them. They protect the radiator with no hassles. I have had friends riding on the street and got a pebble or stone in the radiator and replacing the radiator is far far more expensive. If a guard is available for your bike you should get it.

    • @nervmaniac
      @nervmaniac 4 года назад +1

Well, it could've save the bike if its mount was made of cheap steel or aluminum, so it would bend and absorb the shock. But as we can see here, the slider got nearly no damage, so it hadnt absorb any energy, but worked as a lever and transformed all the crash energy to torque to that silver detail (engine mount, i suppose).
Also a single slider is not a good idea anyway, engine protection cage (not sure how it's called in English) will do a better job as it splits crash energy on more than one point of the frame.

i recently fell down in bengaluru at around 35 kmph in a pretty good long turn (my 3rd fall in over 5 years). my bike has stock crash guards all the time and really protected well but was thinking of something better and was in an idea of replacing them to some sort of frame sliders or larger crash gaurds. But for now after your talk on these frame sliders and many you-tubers who broke thier bikes' engine supports, I completely erased these from my mind. very sad to hear at just 15 kmph this big damage happened to your duke. Nice realistic video though. How much did you spend to restore it again?

    Hi Vikas,
As usual, an informative video. I would like to add some thoughts to your viewers as well.
Frame sliders are of two types 1. cut kits and 2. No cut kits.
The kit on ur machine is a no cut kit, which technically doesn't require you to make any changes to ur body. However, the idea behind the frame slider is to save the bike over small or low speed falls where gravity plays a major factor and not kinetic energy.
Again the longer the slider the better protection when the bike falls under gravity in other words, stand still or tip overs as this will keep most of your parts from touching the ground.
In a travelling fall, there are multiple factors and as you rightly said "many might not agree". Your frame sliders design plays a very active part. Of it's longer then required length this inturn adds to the chances of digging into the ground as the fall does not sound like it happened on good roads. As an experienced biker yourself why did you opt for the sliders when you had stock guards doing a better job ? Is a question worth asking.
Protection for a travelling fall is subjective to the length of the slider as the travel distance should be minimal to allow break off. Which in ur case seems like the frame slider is stronger than the chassis!
What's ur thoughts ? Did u think about all this before the video ?

Coincidence is that 2 weeks back I was looking at that old video of urs about the frame slider to make a decision whether I should put a frame slider or not in my motorcycle. Nd today I saw this video! Well.. I got my answers!

What are your thoughts about after market leg guards with frame sliders. If the sliders are installed on the leg guard the leg guard will take a hit and as after market leg guards generally have more mounting points the weight might be distributed more evenly. I might be wrong but that is what I feel.

Yes, there are some crashguard which can damage the frame, but crashguard provided with the bike wont coz its nut bolt are made to fail before bending of frame can take place and even they are broad enough to protect your legs and other bike parts like engine or radiator on a leagal speed in most of the cases.

THE reason why it damaged your main frame is because your frame slider is of cheap quality and does not have enough shock absorption layer which will absorb the impact intensity. If you would have bought a genuine one this will not be the case as most of the people bought SHOW PIECES.
This is the reason why a genuine costs around 12k and these costs 1/3rd of it. R&D costs you.

Correct, I have R&G sliders for my RC and I have been rear ended at 30kmph,total damage was Rs200/- as I had to replace the handle extension. R&G sliders costed me 13k.
