  • 5.7L 345 V8 Hemi is one of the best engines to build because of how many options you have building power! You can easily grab Hellcat, Redeye, SRT, 392 parts & plug them right onto the 5.7L for more HP/Torque. If you would like Hellcat performance, without worrying about Hellcat price tag - this video is for you.
    Cheapest 5.7L V8 Hemi build includes mostly SRT parts from hellcat, redeye & 392. SRT Exhaust manifold (Shorty headers), SRT Mid pipes, Hellcat Supercharger, 392 or Hellcat Camshafts, 3.09 limited slip from 392 and Demons.

      Well maybe not so much 5.7 but not a bad idea weather 5.7 or 6.4. First MDS delete, phaser lockout kit with a multi-keyway crank sprocket, also I personally would upgrade the heads to edlebrocks new new gen 3 hemi heads and also upgrade entire valve train but I'm a hemi engine junkie so don't mind me. If you want to see some of this in action I suggest taking a look at Powernations 6.4l gen 3 hemi build with a Holley HI-Ram intake manifold. Arrington hooked them up with some pretty good hardware for that build bro go watch it and let me.know what you think about the numbers they ended up with. I.thought it was very impressive.

      I haven't personally done the research on the Durango's, but I know the Ram's have different gearing in the transmissions & differentials. Due to this, the 2500 Power Wagon with the 6.4L only has 410 hrsprs from the factory. This is the same engine that makes 475 hrsprs in the Scat Packs.
      That being said, the best thing to "wake up" a 5.7L is a cam upgrade. There are other prerequisite mods that need to be done at some point before getting the cam installed.

    I know this is for a budget build, but I’m really feeling the stroker kits out for these 5.7s now. Feel it’s the best decision I made for mines. 397 Stroker with 11.0:1 compression ratio with FBOs, maybe even an Edelbrock intake manifold with ported heads and a custom grind cam will get you in the 500s easily. 392 Stroker with 10.4:1 or even lower with bolt ons and a boosted setup could get you in the higher numbers. But like you said, it gets expensive with the tranny and fuel pump setup. You gotta love these 5.7s! Hope to posey more videos this year with the finished N/A setup!! 🙏🏾

    Just recently went with a Magnuson supercharger on mine with 6lb of boost. Have to keep it smog legal in my state. My guess that it's about 500 crank or so; haven't dyno'd yet. I do have a 6pd manual and one thing to note is if you are going this route, you will most likely need to upgrade the clutch. After a couple of pulls you can smell it burning. Then again my clutch is still the one I bought the car with 10 years ago 😊. The tune that comes with the kit will keep the car running, but I am certain that it's not optimum, and you can most likely net a bit more out of it with a proper aftermarket tune.
    While you're upgrading the clutch, if you decide to go the boosted route, I would suggest upgrading driveshaft as well. I feel like this is a little slept on. DSS one-piece aluminum driveshaft is about $1,000. And remember, don't forget to remove the restrictor orifice on the boost actuator valve 😉. You'll thank me later. Cheers 🍻

    • @DJGRoc
      @DJGRoc Год назад +2

      Get a McLeod RXT clutch, & you'll be golden. Going with an aluminum flywheel will also "free up" power by reducing the rotational mass. The stock 5.7L driveshaft is also a weak point that many over look. A 1-piece driveshaft is a good way to beef it up, as well as reduce weight & rotational mass. Either aluminum or CF is good for 1200 hrsprs. Prices vary depending on where you order from. The axles are another weak point on the 5.7L that's forgotten about, as I just blew one out 2 weeks ago. Upgrading to SRT axles is probably the cheapest option for this at around $1300 for the pair.

    • @MetalGearHead
      @MetalGearHead Год назад +2

      @@DJGRoc Yes I was looking at the RXT as the clutch material on that compared to RST would be able to handle more heat. I'll probably be upgrading both clutch and driveshaft at the same time; just seems to be the efficient thing to do. I haven't really looked into axles as much as I should have. How much power would you say the SRT axles would be able to hold up? Haven't done much digging into those. Any fitment issues?

    • @DJGRoc
      @DJGRoc Год назад +1

      @@MetalGearHead I current have the RST in my Chally. Went with it at the time as it was cheaper, & I was still more or less stock power. Not a bad clutch for daily stop & go driving. If I remember correctly, it is good for 600 hrsprs. Main diff between the RST & RXT is the disc material. Both are dual disc, but the RST used an organic material vs ceramic in the RXT. Basically same stuff as brake pads. The RXT is good for 800-1000 hrsprs if memory serves. Then you have the RXT 1200 which is obviously good for 1200+. I think it also becomes a triple disc clutch. The RST is really a street clutch, while the RXT is more of a race clutch.
      Since you have to remove, or at least disconnect, the driveshaft in order to drop the trans; replacing it at the same time as the clutch is not a bad idea. Just be sure to use blue thread lock on the driveshaft bolts.
      As for the axles, the SRT ones are the same as what comes on the Hellcat, so they can handle que a bit of torque. It's the torque that gets them. That's how mine blew, under a hard acceleration.
      This is the setup that I currently have on the car: Barton short throw shifter, Jet Performance skip shift, McLeod RST clutch, DSS CF driveshaft, BMR did lockout. Been great until 2 weeks ago. Car is '15 R/T w/ ~97k on the clock. I have a new RXT clutch to swap as the RST is getting low. I also have the complete set of control arms from AAD Performance, as well as their billet end links. Additionally have the following on hand to install: Bilstein B6 shocks & struts, rear shock tower brace, Eibach Drag Launch springs, BMR cradle lockout, Holley Proforged inner & outer tie rods, & Super Pro bushings every where I can. Been waiting almost a year now for new away bars from Hotchkis.

    I almost went down that rabbit hole. Hurricane Irma prevented that. With the insurance payoff I was lucky enough to get a newer Scat Pack Challenger for the same as my 5.7. Loved it.... until a stock HC handed me a hefty beating. Modding the 6.4 wasn't realistic based on cost to safely boost it. In the end the numbers didn't lie. If I were to want to build slowly it would be possible to get Hellcat numbers after spending considerably more than trading in and paying the difference. It would have been fun but I guess I saw 1 too many J G Wentworth commercials. I wanted my Hellcat now 😁. Having built a car in my younger days I do remember the excitement with each upgrade. Porting your intake manifold, and port matching to the heads is a fun project that will work well with a ported TB. how much hp does it add? A few ponies. It optimizes the air flow which is a good approach to take with the 5.7 in general. And it costs almost nothing if you have a Dremel tool and some sandpaper. A few ponies here and there really add up.

Mainly because I couldn't figure out what exhaust I wanted.. settled on a Summit kit that's 3 ID, and is the best sounding setup I had out of 😬👉👈 let's say alot. Full exhaust and intake manifold are good. DONT get a ported OEM tb. They don't last long. Went through 2 of them before BBK saved me. A new crank pulley is recommended too. Pairs nicely with a mild cam. All in all I spent over 10k and 4k of it was wasted bein a cheapskate.

Was thinking about being unique and badging it an AMG above the 5.7 Hemi badge. With the mods so far I'm 3/4's the way from adding a hellcat supercharger then I'll be just over 600hp and paying insurance price on a 5.7 is way cheaper.
