Yes, Cindy Wilson was the vocal at the beginning, her brother Ricky Wilson on guitar, sadly now departed, he died in '85, Fred Schneider on male vocals, Kate Pierson on vocals, keyboard, synth bass, and Keith Strickland on drums. This track is off of their first album "The B-52's" from 1979, their second album was also excellent "Wild Planet" from 1980, the album with the tracks "Roam" and "Love Shack" was "Cosmic Thing" from '89. There's a great remix album from '81 called "Party Mix!" which featured three tracks off each of the first two albums remixed and mixed into each other, three on each side of the vinyl.

I got to see them in Sydney circa 1980, and got to hang out with them after the show. Nice people.

This is a very difficult song to replicate in a LIVE environment.
The studio version doesn't have any saxophone on it.
One of the biggest music epiphanies of my life was hearing "Planet Claire" for the first time in 1979.
    It was a WTF moment.
Then I heard their whole debut album and they shot into my Top 5 Bands of all time and have been there ever since.
I heard Fred Schneider sing "There's a Moon in the Sky, it's called the Moon" and I knew that this band had a great sense of the bizarre.
They are retiring from hectic full Tours now, which is a good idea because they are not sounding as strong as they used to.
Another Band in my Top 5 are DEVO and they are on their Farewell World Tour now.
I saw them on November 26th, 2023 in Sydney and they were brilliant, terrific and awesome.
They were strong, dynamic and powerful.
    Are We Not Men?
    We Are DEVO!!

I'd first heard 'Planet Claire' and 'Rock Lobster' in the late 80's and after arriving at my band's rehearsal space in our guitarist's house at that time, and I remember thinking, "Gosh! This is complete 💩! 😬" 😅
Then 'Love Shack' and 'Roam' came out, and I liked both songs waaay better 🙂
But it was really only many years later, in 2019, that I finally gave them a _proper_ listen and then realised, "Ohhh! They're just having fun and aren't taking themselves too seriously!!" 😄
I _still_ don't like 'Rock Lobster' all that much, but many of their other songs are absolutely fantastic!
      😊👍

The brass just sounds so odd, my being so used to the studio version that doesn't have it. Cindy does lead vocals on a great track called Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland and hits a high note in the chorus, which she could still do live when I saw them in 2013.

"Give me back my man" is my favourite from those days. Worth a listen. I wouldn't go for the live version though - back then they weren't as tight as they'd become later.

Cindy Wilson who started the song has a great sound when she sings but Kate Pearson's is more pronounced. In the later years Kate became the prominent female vocals with Cindy doing fills and harmonies with Kate and Fred Schneider is unique in his own way

"The guy with the vocal there", LOL! 😄
You guys' reaction was a lot of fun to watch also otherwise! 😊
And you did the right thing by going for a live version as the song speeds up after Cindy's intro and thus has more pep than the original studio one, which has the same tempo from start to finish 🙂
And quite interesting (to me): Cindy's and Kate's voices still also are similar enough to create kind of a modulation effect when they sing the same melodies together (similar to a Chorus effect pedal), which is quite unique around the Music Biz 😃

Couldn’t disagree with you more if I tried mightyV- there are of course many exceptions to the rule but by and large I feel that the “ live “ feel is for actually being at the gig , that sax on this was unnecessary and detracted for me . Your preference is totally valid , no issues , but not for me thanks 👌I’ll have the recorded or mimed version every day of the week and pay to see them play live as and when the opportunity arises ✊

@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering - Yes, I've seen quite a few comments under their live videos of people disliking the added brass parts, too! I don't mind them. And I'm usually not a big fan of trumpets, trombones and especially not saxophones! 😅
My favourite version of this song is the one from a gig in Dortmund, Germany in '83 🤩 And I have no problems with you preferring the original studio version, Jay!

I’m a huge B-52’s fan and I adore this track and even though you insist on playing live gig tracks 🤷‍♂️ , for some bands that might be the right way to go but imho not for this band as you lose such nuances and perfect harmonies which are the hallmark of this band , I still enjoyed it . But please for any requests of mines TOTP if not then OGWT or just straight up promo videos . I’ve been to gigs , they’re great , you go for the live feel and the heat, excitement and unexpected twists , THATS not what I want when I’m sitting in my pants watching re runs of Lovejoy and scratching my arse 😝
Can I remind you of my request for New Model Army - No Rest ? I’m not doing a pressure job like some have recently , just keeping my hand in ✊
