But I'm currently saving $90/mo, and that will drop lower and lower and fees go up and up, mostly for stupid sports crap. Let people people pay for sports if they want it, and let the rest of us have lower rates. If rates continue to go up, I'll just drop them and use the free services.

The one thing with the streaming services though is you don't want to pay those prices you can easily dump them, unlike when you are locked into cable. So at least the consumer can give the middle finger to streaming services that are seemingly intent on becoming cable'esque in pricing.

You're never locked into cable. You can leave any time.
The difference is that cable companies have some purchase power and consumers of streaming don't, other than dropping it. But if it's true that Netflix got more subscribers, when they should have had fewer, it's obvious there are people out there unwilling to inconvenience themselves for a few months in order to force those companies to bring down prices.

    • @chalabrooks5433
      @chalabrooks5433 10 месяцев назад

Yeah, for now but being able to jump ship month to month may change in the future too. So what we see now mostly likely will not be the same in a few years since they are trying to build their profitability. Steady subscribers will be a plus for them. Not sure if they will do it now or later but possibly a 3 month, 6 month, and a year obligation at a lower price is possible to attract longer subscribers. Time will tell if I'm right but until things settle down anything is possible right now.🤷🏽‍♀️

Any streaming service that hits $15 a month is a deal breaker for me. That's when cable become the cheaper option or just buying the content on discs instead. I am curious to find out what's so expensive about broadcasting a streaming service. If the piracy companies can do it for less, so can Disney and all the others.
No ad supported viewing for me. I will probably be watching them soon when the new content is gone, and I drop all the subscriptions. There's always YT and self-education too.
If it's an option, I would consider bundling, but I don't want to be forced to pay for something that I'm not interested in. If that happens, the content will end up like just another cable company with 800 channels and nothing on for $100-$200 per month. Then no ad free options and all the other terrible things about cable that provoked us into cutting the cord to begin with. I can see it coming as the streaming service companies absorb the smaller ones and we end up with a few options and ridiculously high prices, thanks to their corporate greed and growing too big.

RUclips has far too many ads. I understand that YT needs ad revenue in order to stay afloat, but now I'm getting 2 or 3 ad breaks per video. It's annoying. @@MrModaman I see cable going to the fiber lines as streaming services, they won't need to provide installations or equipment and just take in the cash. Streaming services will consolidate into about 3 different companies and collectively raise their rates to the cable equivalent.
Fortunately, AI will be advanced enough for the average YTuber to generate their own content and compete directly with other streaming services. If the quality and value are there, streaming services will either have to drop their prices or pressure the FCC to develop rules to stop them.
That's the evolution of streaming as I see it at least.

Fox making more money makes sense since they really only have a handful of channels in the US, including Fox Broadcasting Network, which is free OTA and has plenty of sports, including the NFL like Luke mentioned. Part of the reason they did the Disney deal was so that they could take the same amount of cash in hand to invest solely in national sports and news.

My monthly budget for streaming is unchanged. I rotate them out monthly and catch up on shows. It is getting to the point I can only be signed up to two at a time as they increase in price and it might be one at a time the way it is going. All this is going to mean is I subscribe less to them during the year so their efforts to increase revenue won't work with the way I budget. At least I am still paying something. I know several people that have just stopped subscribing to things like Netflix and just pirate any shows they want to watch.

Sadly, I can guess why you did what you did and, while I have canceled Netflix over their policy of changing from an account number basis to an IP basis, and may also do the same with Hulu & Disney, I'm doing it for financial reasons and because it unfairly affects single person households.
I'm happy to support companies that support human beings as equal. 24/7. All day, every day, forever and ever.
That is a separate issue from canceling because I was able to pool my subscription with another single person household (so 2 accounts=2 people), and now must pay the same price as a single person household that a 5 person household would pay.

Not a fella but can guarantee that, as long as there are people willing to pay that increase, those streaming apps are going to continue to rise, pricing out those of us who are lower income or single person households. Those profits are generally something that can be controlled and they refuse to do that, instead forcing consumers to make up the difference. We have no control over their business practices, other than to unsubscribe. If it's true that Netflix increased their subscribers after their sh***y move, that's all we need to know about how consumers are unwilling to use their purchase power to force these companies to make internal changes.

I pay for Sling Blue with an Antenna and their quad add-on offer. Quad add-on is at elimination risk. That's it. I dropped other paid streamers. It came down to costs versus what I actually watch, being completely honest and not influenced by channel count hype. The wife watches local (Antenna channels) and I mainly watch RUclips and the local weather sometimes. We have almost zero sports interest. Streamer pricing is becoming as bad as cable. I'm not doing that again. Streamer inordinate spending and investor earnings priority over consumers is the wrong objective, considering the consumers money is the prime variable of the equation. Ebooks are always my alternative and more imaginative.

My suspicion is that by this time next year, I will have Netflix, Prime, perhaps YTTV, and Apple. I agree those in the entertainment industry need to make a profit.
