  • Tim's toy collection fills most of his flat, stored in around 200 suitcases, arranged in date order. Today he takes down a case labelled 2005, to explore the delights inside...
    A mystery object, or a 'Whatsit' - anyone know what this is?
    Then a glass prism with a secret - breathe on it and a picture appears - the 2 of Clubs. Could be part of a magic trick maybe?
    A monopolar motor, made from a battery, some magnets and a piece of wire.
    A magnetic toy that pops up when you place it on a metal surface. But when you take it off the surface, the character vanishes back into the base. Clever.
    125 faces in one object - the ultimate finger fidget?
    A figure made from clear plastic straws. However internal threads make the figure animate!
    Magic matches - two matchboxes, with interconnecting drawers.
    The Eiffel Tower as a spinning top.
    Continuing the Paris theme, a 3D map of a section of Paris, where the rubber has perished - as Tim says, 'perished but cherished'.
    Finally a small rubber frog that has an internal 'croak'. However now it sounds more like a dog!

    I'm 100% sure the little magnetic pop-up toy is how they made Bakugan toys, because I remember having a Bakugan toy as a kid with the card, and I remember how the card is a bit heavier than normal cards and that my toy magnets stick to them. I then realized that the little Bakugan toys has a magnet at the bottom of the base, and that the card has a metal in it to stick with the Bakugan and have it transform!
    Seeing that pop-up toy really throws me back to those days! Such good times.
    Edit:
    I've also had that straw doll! Only that it was a bear and it was made of wood. If I pull the string from the bottom the bear would move its arms and legs and made it look like it was jumping! I'm pretty sure it's still in my room because I hung it on a little string on my door because it looks cute there.

    • @ittybittyfroggy
      @ittybittyfroggy Год назад

      I actually repair damaged Bakugan! The inner mechanism varies between different years and designs. It's typically a magnet inserted into a movable plastic piece, connected to components that hold a Bakugan's features into that "closed" shape. There's also a spring over the magnet, allowing it to press down onto the card.

Not sure what for though, as it would be a very weird design.
