    I was chatting with the guy who built this deck in the Jund discord, they incorrectly published his deck list. It was 60 cards with 1 triome, and the weather the storms were because he’s in Dallas and burn is notoriously common there!

    That 61 cards was actually an error, Christopher himself said that the deck only played one triome / Ziatora's Proving Ground but the list that was posted had 2 because of a mistake.

    • @lucarr1041
      @lucarr1041 2 года назад

      I feel like there could be an argument for 25 lands, seeing as you have a number of lands that you can cycle/channel for value. You're effectively flooding like a 20-21 land deck, and even a deck which is 1/3 land still shouldn't hit 8 lands in 13 draws that often. I'd also be hesitant to draw conclusions from just one game, seeing as the mana seemed fine in the other games.

    In general, when playing vs murktide, isn't it better to cast kroxa on turn 2 into open mama? You don't care much if it gets countered because it gets a card out of their hand either way, and wastes their turn

    • @lucarr1041
      @lucarr1041 2 года назад

      Playing an early Kroxa into counterspell mana will rarely take the counterspell out of their hand. They can just let Kroxa resolve and discard something that's worth less to them. You're going to have to play into the counterspell at some point anyway, so you'd much rather play something that baits out the counterspell. It's also possible that they have something like Consider in their hand, so when you don't play something worth countering, they can still do something useful with their turn. Post-sideboard, playing Kroxa early also gets worse, as they have more of a chance to dig for graveyard hate with Expressive Iteration/Consider.
      If you have nothing better to do with your mana on turn 2, playing Kroxa is fine, but I don't think you should aim to play Kroxa earlier just because your opponent has a counterspell.

    • @lucarr1041
      @lucarr1041 2 года назад

      He has both Nurturing Peatland and Barren Moor in that mana base, plus the recent addition of Boseju. I think 25 lands might be less optimal than 24, but it's far from being "just too much"

    • @bigtree3187
      @bigtree3187 2 года назад

      @@lucarr1041 its too many lands, playing wrenn and six you dont need that many. I dont think you have played this arquetype ever

    • @lucarr1041
      @lucarr1041 2 года назад

      @@bigtree3187 I might not have experience playing the archetype, but if you'll permit me to appeal to authority, Reid didn't seem to think it was an outright mistake. Also, the amount of variance there is in how many lands you draw makes it very difficult to draw conclusions about the amount of difference 1 extra land makes just from experience.
      As for the extra land making the land count too high with W&6 in particular, I'm not so convinced. From what I can tell from other comments, the extra land was the second triome. The triomes are fetchable, so you can easily thin them out of the deck if you're looping fetchlands with Wrenn, and they can also be cycled, which combos well with Wrenn to make a late-game card draw engine.
      I would also like to again point out the increased number of spell-lands being played compared to previous iterations of Jund. Older versions of BBE Jund may have been playing 24 lands with just Peatland and Raging Ravine as lands that use up mana. Adding Barren Moor and Boseju, which are both cycled/channelled more often than not, plus triomes (which are also cycled relatively frequently) means that although the land count appears higher, several cards contributing to that count are filling the role of spells.
      So, no, I haven't played this archetype enough, but also I doubt many people have. At least theoretically, 25 lands is justifiable, even taking W&6 into account

    • @bigtree3187
      @bigtree3187 2 года назад

      @@lucarr1041 the thory you have is good on paper man, but playing 23~22 lands, which 7~8 usually being fetchlands, the games where i get mana flooded are very high. I often get to cast evrything. Also on thr bbe case, she is not good anymore, also the mana curve is much smaller than before, you dont need that many lands, you get mana screwed very often. With this reid brew you technicaly are plating aroud 29 lands, counting wrenn as a landrop, its true that the cycling lands are good, i usually play a forgotten cave, barren moor and a ziatora's. Under my experience and with the ones i discuss about bgx decks, we definetly agreed that this was too much.
      Its playable? Yes
      But its not optimal

    • @lucarr1041
      @lucarr1041 2 года назад

      @@bigtree3187 Ah, ok. I was missing the context that this comes from a community of BGx players. I can definitely see 27 lands (counting Wrenns, exclusing Barren Moor and Boseju) being too many for the archetype. I brought up the BBE decks as an example of the same archetype prior to the spell lands released in the past couple of sets, but I'm aware it's not really where you want to be these days. I agree that shifting to a curve that tops out at 3 and not having to feel bad about bloodbraid hitting a 1-cost card makes it easier to get away with playing fewer lands. I'll admit I was working under the assumption that 24 lands was the norm for a deck that plays so many 3-drops; If people are playing significantly fewer than that by default then 25 is definitely too much.

      Urza's Saga not adding coloured mana really hurts when you're short on lands, though. There's an argument that there should be maybe one or two more lands like Peatland/Barren Moor/Boseju, but if you're thinking of adding Sagas, you're probably looking at a different archetype (especially considering you have to play 0- and 1-cost artifacts to search for)
