None at all, just not enough time to ride. I've been riding for more than 30 yrs, and technology finally caught up to me! This is the right motorcycle for me at the right time, age 65. Love the motorcycle evaluation and the trips you take us on! keep them coming as long as you can and as long as they are fun!
@@TheMissendenFlyer when you wired up your extra lights did you have to connect them on separate channels to get them to switch off when you put the indicator on or is there some cleaver way to use one connection to the ezCan?
Yep. The EZcan is the business. In addition to lights, I added a powerlet right under the seat of my GS (left hand side.) The factory powerlet is limited to something like 4 amps. Seems a bit low for running things like tire inflators. Thanks for sharing your installs and rides.
I know this is a bit late after the video was uploaded, but I have just installed the HexEzcan on the R1200GS. Great bit of kit and super recommendation. The only problem was threading the wires through the bike... Never much fun.
Ive got a kawasaki versys and wish there was a product like this available for my bike. All the functions that youve unlocked with the lights are amazing
I fitted the exact same lights, clamps and hex ezcan. Fitted ez can last night, took about 20 mins. Fitted lights today in an hour. Works perfectly. Cheers TMF
Hi there TMF... A while back I mentioned about the turn signal cancel turning the lights on/off. Since then I have wired mine in and all works great. On a ride out today, they were not on so to test the theory, I gave the button a long press..... they came on. 😃. I have looked on the website and found this.... "All lights can be activated or deactivated by holding in the turn signal cancel button for 3s (i.e. toggle on and off)." Typical bloke thing.....I should have read the instructions.😂 Cheers.
I literally saw this product a couple days ago and thought it was very cool. If there is one thing I do not like about my GSA is the lighting. Even with the auxiliary lights that come with it. Great video as always and thanks for including which lights you bought and from where. Getting them right now....
Hi TMF, I've just fitted an Hex EZcan onto my GSA, I have to be honest I struggled setting it up so that the light went out when operating the indicator, I had it so that it was either both lights went out or neither. I've just sorted it out now though as it should be. Apart from feeding the wiring through the chassis and bodywork it was relatively easy just a bit time consuming to get it right. I might now add a heated seat to feed off it now. Thanks for the idea and guidance eyc.
That'll be interesting to see how you did both of those. I really do love my GSA and adding these extras. Reminds me of when I got my first cars and personalising them!
Another great video. Starting to wish I had a CAN bus just so I could get flashing lights. Don't forget to tell your insurance about the HexEZcan and the lights though. If the unthinkable did happen the slippery sods wouldn't pay to have them replaced.
Bought some of these lights based on your video, £18 is cheap and though my bike can't do the fancy stuff yours does I'm sure the on/off switch will be fine 👍🏻
Love how you can change the light settings. Gonna turn my multistrada into a two sheeled disco. Just need to find a place to hang the glitter ball on - as ever great vid!!!!
Such a shame I didn't come across this video first! I've been looking for a CanBus interface for my R1200R for weeks now Andy. Ordered from their U.K outlet in Leatherhead Surrey, received 1 day later and installing next week. Nice!
Going back a while but can you remember if the additional lights you added from Amazon had 2 or 3 wires, as my understanding of the cansmart and hex can system is that it uses the 3rd wire as the dimmer in order to change the brightness of the lights
Another great video. If only my garage was so clean and well organised. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance ;) on the subject of the aux and aux-aux lights - I think they are mostly good for being noticed, however I do have another theory which I've experienced myself on the bike / in the car when seeing a bike with aux lights. That is that it can make a bike look like a car but further away, if that makes sense. Sometimes it breaks up the recognisable profile of a motorbike, particularly from dusk onwards. Dunno if anyone else has experienced that..?
Yes I agree on that regarding the lights - I think that's potentially a good thing - as car drivers are mentally programmed to see other cars and tend not to notice bikes....or are you saying that's bad because of a potential speed differential???
...maybe, I'm happy with this set-up though - with my main headlight plus the OEM aux lights, plus these, I don't think I look anything like a car on the approach...but I should be seen at least. The lights don't dazzle as I have them on the lowest brightness setting and have them pointing low (for that purpose)....thanks for watching, all the best - TMF
Oooh I love a good debate over points of law!. Road vehicle lighting regs, Type approval, E markings.... hours of research. But I'll resist because I honestly don't think you'll have any issue whatsoever with how you intend to use them. Interesting to see that Audi have introduced fancy indicator lights, and some cars (and bikes) have 'Turn lights' which just light up at one side at a time, both of which would have been illegal a few years ago. So maybe there is a slight shift towards allowing creativity with lights to improve safety. Not something for my bike, but they do look pretty trick on the GS. Nice intro by the way 😉
As you say, cool. Interesting what the Gendarmes would say about the white flashers. As you know sounding a horn or flashing your lights only indicates "I am here" and they are not coloured. Saw the product a couple of months ago on RUclips and was tempted, until I added it all up. I would like the extra lights and an air horn. (Non musical....... hang on a minute, lol Dixie on a GS). Plus the flashing break light. Good vid as usual and will be watching this space.. cheers.
Thank you Steve....and yes that's why I bought the cheapo lights (to keep the overall cost reasonable)...and as it transpires the "cheapo" lights seem to be excellent quality to me, at least as good as the BMW supplied ones (costing nearly £400!)...
Just getting up to date, brilliant (excuse the pun) set of lights, all about being seen and if they miss you with them then they shouldn't be on the road be safe out there
Light update, finally sorted, what a cracking set of lights Best £30 lights and harness i've spent in a long while ;-) Thanks for your help Ride Safe Baza ;-)
Great vid thanks TMF- was initially thinking why you had not gone with a cheaper fuzeblock option but can see the operational difference that the EZcan provides. Liking the strobe effect.
Correct - the fuzeblock (nippy Normans approx £70) provides a component that is directly connected to battery and allows addition of powered accessories avoiding canbus system - but will not offer the same level of operation that TMF has demonstrated here.
You're not going to turn that into a Lambretta of the 60s are you? Loads of mirrors and lights! As others have said, the horn needs some beefing up. Air horns are usually the first thing that I add. Even on the Goldwing, which let's face it is a sofa on wheels, pedestrians would still wander out in the road in front of me. If you can't see a Wing you really need to get your eyes seen to. Excellent vid as usual. Thank you.
Great video. Do I need to set up left and right to red and orange connections separately in order to get the edge of the left and right turn signals turning off each side separately? Thanks.
So nearly there with install. Threading the wires through from the front lights is a pain, removed tank panel had to watch video to do that after I removed all the screws and it still didn't come off lol. I have used the laptop to configure How I want the HexEZCan to operate. Connect the wires to it tomorrow .
Funny, I was just looking at that. Have asked them if it works with the XR...it should. Thanks for the vid - the product is very impressive. Rgds Glenn
hello TMF from Canada. if it hasn't already been posted checkout Twisted Throttle, they offer a kit with the lights, harness, horns etc. hope this helps people. Cheers
Had to pause the video and laugh out loud watchng you faff about with the pillion seat! :) It's a right pain in the rear, you're not alone. Ok, on with the show. I'm sure its gonna be a good one.
Excellent video TMF really, really useful. I've been toying with the idea of fitting Clearwater LED lights, but not anymore I'm not. I've got 4 extra tail lights on panniers/topbox which make significant difference in terms of cars/lorries stopping well in advance of me. This was direct result of some idiot running in to the back of me few years back.
Thanks...and the HexEZcan does also give me the facility to do some fancy things with the rear lights (like flashing on hard braking or deceleration) - so I think in due course I'll fit some more rears too...learning from your mistake!
Nice to see you getting a little more dareing, with the gubbins of the bike. If you are interested Bedford college run a basic motorcycle maintenance course, it's 6 weeks long and it runs in April and December. Take your own bike along, take it apart knowing that there is a fully qualified tutor keeping an eye on you all the time.£250 well worth it.
I have a K1600gtl and it has a pair of poor BMW spots fitted. The thing is they come on only with the main headlights and then of course the daylight running are dimmed. I want the lights to come on when i have the daylight runners on so do i need to get the cam bus adapter? BM
Thank you TMF, another video of yours that has prompted me to buy something you have fitted... a Hex EzCan & exact same lights are on order! One question regarding the wiring setup for these... am I right in saying you had to use two separate outputs from the EzCan for the left & right spots? My thoughts are that if you used only one output, the indicator setting won't work correctly.
Hi do you have the wiring diagram for this light setup. i purchase 2 sets au light, how do i set this up? appreciate you could help me out. From the setup u did.. show that you connected both the lights to 1 connecter on the hex can. Is that right?
Another awesome vid! You should also try and see the amazing configs you can do with the brake ligths ! Strobing on hard engine brake and on regular brake, alternating red turn signals, hazard lights aswell
Another great video. Those lights appear such great value. Pity about the extra cost and hassle to get the CAN bus adapter. Bit pricey if you don't have more than 1 accessory in mind.
Presumably, this also takes away the need to run power to and have a switch on the handlebars for the lights i.e. the wonder wheel effectively fulfils this role by controlling the light intensity?
How have you managed to get the left indicator/kill left spot to work and vice-versa for the right side. It looks to me in the video that you effectively joined the spots together and soldered/spliced into the EZCan.
Actually, I think I can answer my own query from reading through earlier questions - you used a separate 'channel' on the EZCan for each side i.e. the high and low light intensity options.
I have been looking at the HexExcan for about a month now. I was slightly concerned with the fact that they are not available in this country in term of legality , so I sent a email to the police with a RUclips link featuring them. They sent back a issue with the flashing of the lights (strobe effect). Also the number of lights on the bike. I was looking also to add it to put some led strips for the brakes as I feel with panniers and topbox the brake light could be more visible.
Yes I have bought an LED strip as an additional brake light strip for the top box - not fitted it yet though. Interesting that the Police have an issue with the number of lights on a bike - that's going to upset a number of mods that ride scooters!!
TheMissendenFlyer . Here what they said. Thank you for contacting Avon and Somerset Constabulary. Having watched the video I see a couple issues with these lights. The video shows the lights flashing and the narrator mentions the lights strobing. Please see the following section of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989. Regulation 13 of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 prohibits the fitting of lamps to vehicles which automatically emit a flashing light, with certain exceptions. 13(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), no vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which automatically emits a flashing light. 13(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in respect of -
(a) a direction indicator; (b) a headlamp fitted to an emergency vehicle or a vehicle used for special forces purposes; (c) a warning beacon or special warning lamp; (d) a lamp or illuminated sign fitted to a vehicle used for police purposes; (e) a green warning lamp used as an anti-lock brake indicator; (f) lamps forming part of a traffic sign. (g) a front position lamp capable of emitting a flashing light (whether or not it is also capable of emitting a steady light) which is fitted to -
(i) a pedal cycle; or (ii) a trailer drawn by, or a sidecar attached to, a pedal cycle; and which, if it is a lamp which is required to be fitted pursuant to regulation 18, is capable, when emitting a flashing light, of emitting light to the front of the pedal cycle, trailer or sidecar (as the case maybe) of an intensity of not less than 4 candelas; or (h) a rear position lamp capable of emitting a flashing light (whether or not it is also capable of emitting a steady light which is fitted to -
(i) a pedal cycle; or (ii) a trailer drawn by, or a sidecar attached to, a pedal cycle; and which, if it is a lamp which is required to be fitted pursuant to regulation 18, is capable, when emitting a flashing light, of emitting light to the rear of the pedal cycle, trailer or sidecar (as the case maybe) of an intensity of not less than 4 candelas.
Additionally where fitting additional lights are concerned the following section of Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 should be consulted, see below. Part II of Schedule 2 to the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 provides the requirements relating to optional front position lamps on vehicles, in addition to the obligatory ones.
1. In the case of a solo motor bicycle first used on or after 1st April 1991 which is not fitted with any obligatory front position lamp, not more than two may be fitted which must comply with the requirement specified in paragraph 7 of Part I (colour of obligatory front position lamps). Where two are fitted these shall be situated as close together as possible. 2 In the case of a solo motor bicycle first used on or after 1st April 1991 which is fitted with one obligatory front position lamp, not more than one additional lamp may be fitted which must comply with the requirement specified in paragraph 7 of Part I (colour of obligatory front position lamps), and shall be situated as close as possible to the obligatory front position lamp. 3 In the case of any other vehicle any number of front position lamps may be fitted and the only requirements prescribed by these Regulations in respect of any which are fitted are those in paragraph 7 and 12(c) of Part I (colour of obligatory front position lamps and other misc requirements).
Thanks for that lot Paul - having read through this lot quickly I don't see anything that would affect the use of the lamps I have fitted - I do consider these to be "a warning beacon or special warning lamp" (ie they only strobe when I hit the horn - a warning device - or specifically flash my headlight three times in the case of being a warning to other vehicles). In any case "Regulation 13 of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 prohibits the fitting of lamps to vehicles which automatically emit a flashing light" - these do not automatically emit a flashing light, they are normally constant, they only flash if I manually trigger them by the methods previously indicated when I wish to emit a warning to other vehicles. All that notwithstanding, I wont be going around strobing at all and sundry and I'd rather be safe on the bike, and be alive to argue the case later. Would be interesting to hear if any traffic police are reading this and have a view?? ...I completely get it would be different if you had blue flashing lights!!!
Sorry no I don't - it was pretty straightforward and obvious for the lights themselves (I thought)...trickiest bit was the Hexezcan to the battery as I showed....good luck!
Rdc stands for Reifen Druck Controle, that is the tirepressure control unit. How does your navigator V react when you use "the wonderwheel" to dim the lights ?
TMF ( Andy ) your a very naughty man that's just cost me few Bob 😉 After watching this I have had to order both items. No doubt I will be referring back to it when it comes to fitting them 🤗 Sadly no facility to let both companies know that it was because of your reviews I brought them. Why am I thinking you now have a nice GW in your garage 😉 Stay safe out there 👍
you all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my login password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Jamie Darius thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I can't bloody see now, cool TMF great vid I want some of those lol. I wouldn't worry too much about the legality, I did a spell of blood biking last year & can confirm that a flashing white light is perfectly legal even without blue light training, albeit in daylight hours only. I would refrain from using them during the hours of darkness, that might draw some unwanted attention. Cheers, Karl.
k4rloGSer Sorry to be a bit of a loser but a flashing white light, day or night is illegal. If it is a non emergency vehicle every light except the indicators must show a steady light. The only worry is if you get a cop that actually cares.
I got a section 59 last year for setting my mounted pushbike lights to flash on my GS. I received a visit from a traffic cop who stated that an off duty cop had felt intimidated and so had reported me for the lights. I guess that maybe short bursts are acceptable but would be interested as to where k4rloGSer got that info.I am investing for hopefully the extra bright lighting and life saving short strobes.
steve lewis hi Steve, the info came from when I was riding the blood bike, which is not an emergency vehicle albeit they look like a cop bike. They have a white flashing light up front which could be used in daylight hours only. This is allowed without blue light training, however I do appreciate that a normal biker with flashing LED's may attract attention. I personally don't like the hi viz 'Polite' vests, for me that's someone pretending to be a bike cop & could draw the wrong attention. I suppose it's down to personal choice, if you think it's illegal & don't like it, don't fit them. In TMF,s case, I'm sure they will be used sensibly. If your MTB lights are as bright as mine, I'm not surprised you got a pull. Cheers & ride safe 👍
Very Many Thanks for you swift response. I think that motorbikes should be able to run flashing whites like a push bike. From the 2 sets of pushbike lights I fitted www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-lights/bike-lights/rechargeable-bike-light-set (fronts only) whenever I set them to flash, admittedly people moved out of the way, but at a couple of notorious junctions locally no one ever pulled out on me. When set to normal and steady bright people still pull out. At the end of the day we, as motorcyclist, have to do everything we can because car drives do not. I think, like our counterpart cyclists, we should be afforded this safety measure. Emergency vehicles can stick to flashing blues. I wonder how many motorcyclist would buy into that. Oh, by the way, I agree with you regarding the 'Polite' vest. Ride Safe also
Very clever but can't imagine the Rozzers will be too impressed with those flashing lights :-o You need a denali air horn to go with those lights..... Thanks for sharing TMF
Yeah I may do that, although to be honest I mainly fitted the extra lights for conspicuity reasons rather than needing additional night lighting (the BMW aux lights are great for that).....thanks for watching - TMF
Hi, would you have any idea if you can hook up the Innovv c5 camera system to one of the auxiliary ports on the HexEzcan? Would save a lot of messing with wires....Thx...
TheMissendenFlyer you would have thought there would be a video of someone doing the connection bit but I just can’t find it on you tube, thanks for the reply though and I’m sure I’ll work it out. Did you use anything else other than some extra wire to connect them?
I have some of the cheap round LED spots on mine MF so any chance you could post a short vid on what the light pattern is like on your amazon ones compared to both the BM aux lights and your headlight. Cheers
Hi there, Looks like a great piece of kit. Did the spot lights come pre wired with the correct plugs on? If not where did you get the wiring/plug sockets for them? Thanks
Hi Glen, the plugs are supplied with the HexEZCan all you need to add to the spotlights is some wire (which I had knocking about the garage). I also bought some brackets from E-Bay to mount them as the ones supplied with the lights didn't work with my crash bars. Cheers - TMF
Hi Glen - I used these brackets from Amazon to mount the lights on my crash bars amzn.to/2jXdc6E - interesting to note they're much more expensive than the lights themselves!!
Hi Andy. I've just bought the hex ezcan and the lights. Can you tell me if I connect the lights in series before I connect to the ezcan. ie connect the lights poz and neg wires together then connect the remaining poz and neg to the ezcan. Or do I just connect the two poz on the lights to the poz on the ezcan and same with the neg. Hope you can help. Good vids by the way. Thanks . Nick
I am new to this hex ezcan or the denali canbus thing.. so with this do we still need to get the wiring harness for the lights and horn (which includes separate relays and fuxes). OR we do not need those. If we do not then how is the fuse and relay part handled ?
@@TheMissendenFlyer okay so i just need to wire the lights and the horn without the relay and fuse. Directly connect to the hex ezcan and all the load can be handled by the factory harness? I am worried because the BMW dealer told me that adding accessories which utilize the factory harness will void the electrical warranty.
Great video again TMF, I have seen those lights on eBay and wondered about them myself, might just have to get some now ha ha. Some folk are on about the flashing white lights/strobing, they are used in conjunction with amber flashers or amber beacons as a form of warning other road users or or advertising your vehicle is there. I used white strobes on my 4x4 escorting farm machinery and the police going past never battered an eye so they are ok, I would be worries if the led had a blue tinge but they are pure white. Have you got any more road trips planned TMF?
Cheers Chris - and yes, I will be sensible about the strobes, I have no concerns - especially after that comment from the blood biker who assured me it is quite legal - and as you say, blue lights, something different altogether! ...and yes I have a few trips planned this year, think the first one is due March and I'll no doubt be talking the cameras as usual so do stay tuned! All the best - TMF
I have been looking at this for a while now but have been put off by the statement saying that it is 'awaiting type approval'.... not sure what that means though. Clearly it works on UK/European models. Just to clarify please if you could. Once you have connected the EZcan, all you do is attach the +\- leads from your 'accessories' directly to one of the four leads of the EZcan without any additional relay or fuses? Thanks TMF, as always, another excellent and informative production. 🍻
Me again, apologies for all the questions. My lights have arrived but the fixing bracket is for a car. Did you have to buy a separate bracket for the crash bars?
Yes - I bought these - expensive compared to the lights (£30) but well made >> amzn.to/2kEs9jd and work a treat, I used a little rectangle of rubber under each bracket for grip/sizing....
They done a review and fitting of the PDM60 in the MSL magazine, my impressions were that it can be used to supply power to several accessories, and each output can be programmed to be either always-on or only when the ignition is switched on.
Well I am tempted to get some more of those lights and just mount them on the CRF for conspicuity reasons...of course they wont do all the fancy stuff without the HexEZCan as Aussierider says....
I have fitted my Ezcan to my BMW r1200gs LC with no problems. Followed instructions and your video. All working as it should however the RDC tyre monitoring no longer works. I have the orange warning triangle and no preesures displayed. If I disconnect the Ezcan then they work fine. Are you able to assist?
TheMissendenFlyer I have. They think it's a faulty connection or a faulty cable from Ezcan to RDC. Must be that as everything else works perfectly apart from that and RDC works fine when original plug back in. No one else seems to have had this happen. Thanks anyway, your video was spot on. 😁
i have just installed this on my bike , but its doing strange things . did you wire both the spots in one fitting or each one to different one ? when I flash three times its starts flashing and i cant stop it , when i indicate it doesnt switch off ? im really confused . i fitted them together ,could that be the problem ?
Hello. If I use a standard wiring harness with relay, fuse and switch, is it possible to tap into a positive 12v line in front area of the bike e.g. low beam, high beam or parking light cable? Thanks.
Iannis Adamopoulos thanks for the reply. I guess your bike has halogen bulbs with separate high and low beam wires. In that case, when you attach the positive lead of the relay to the positive of high beam, you can operate the aux lights with high beam switch. But the new GS with full led headlights do not have separate high and low beam wires in wich you can tap. There is only one main wire that feeds the whole headlight assembly. If you tap into it , your aux lights will be on when the bike is on, something which is not allowed in our trafic laws.
The lights don't no - the review this video was talking about was primarily about the HexEZcan which basically is a plug and play Canbus wiring loom...
Hi TMF, I have a question too and forgive me for my poor English. Did you connect the lights on the red or blue circuit of the hex ez can, both lights on one circuit or one on red, one on blue. It looks like you put the positive wires of the lights together and the negatives as well and connect on one circuit with the included pig tail, right? Thanks.
Hi Flyer are the cheap auxiliary lights holding up well or have you had any problems?? Just watched your gauge upgrade on the speed twin very entertaining. 👍👍👍
great vid ordered mine to fit some lights, 3 days from the states and easy fit so thanks. have you fitted an aux power outlet to the EZcan and could you use it to trickle charge the battery
Hi there another great video very professional I just wondered do you tell your insurance company about your modifications, ? If you have an accident they might not pay out
Hi TMF, just a quickie, I ordered the Aux lights same as yours, but how and where did you mount them, the brackets in the box did you use them. Thanks in advance.
Hi TMF, Just purchased one of your t-shirts... I'm sure it'll look better on me than the leggings :-) When you purchase your next GS... would you still add on the OEM auxiliary lights? plus add after market lights as you've done? Those OEM Aux lights are not cheap!! ...as are all good quality farkles. But it appears after market lights have better functionality available when paired with products like the Hex EZCan as you have done. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Standby for a A LOT of female attention in that shirt.....as for your question, probably not no, I'd just go after market as those OEM lights are stupidly expensive in comparison and no better in practice....
Wunderbar. I need one for my additional brake lights..... Seems silly to have to buy it from the USA when it's a South African product. I don't know why it would need Type Approval for Europe as it's only really a programmable switch. Let's hope Nippy Norman's imports some soon! In terms of candidates for extra front lights I would have thought that the GS would be the least deserving of your expanding stable as it already has immense road presence!!TTFN
I see you are using the Wonder Wheel to control some of the EZcan's functions, do you lose the ability to use the wheel to control the satnav functions? How does it interact with the satnav if you don't? It would be great if an extra screen came up on the satnav with the extra functions on it but I don't suppose it does.
Ah! Just watched another video on the EZCan, I see that you hold the wheel over and turn it to control the lights. It's these small snippets of info that make the difference in product videos.
Thank you sir and will do!
Yes I may add one of those, plus a different horn quite appeals....thanks for watching - TMF
The powerlet is not for running compressors etc . Maybe just sat nav phones very low output mine seems to shut off running most things.
I know this is a bit late after the video was uploaded, but I have just installed the HexEzcan on the R1200GS. Great bit of kit and super recommendation. The only problem was threading the wires through the bike... Never much fun.
I agree with that!
Cheers TMF
Excellent stuff, good aren't they.....
Shockingly so for £20!
That's what I thought - the brackets cost me more than the lights!
Ditto, but by God the lights are bright!
That's the beauty of the EZ-Can - you can easily dim them....mine are set on the lowest setting.
Hi there TMF... A while back I mentioned about the turn signal cancel turning the lights on/off. Since then I have wired mine in and all works great. On a ride out today, they were not on so to test the theory, I gave the button a long press..... they came on. 😃. I have looked on the website and found this....
"All lights can be activated or deactivated by holding in the turn signal cancel button for 3s (i.e. toggle on and off)."
Typical bloke thing.....I should have read the instructions.😂
Cheers.
+Flaming T Jolly good :0)
I literally saw this product a couple days ago and thought it was very cool. If there is one thing I do not like about my GSA is the lighting. Even with the auxiliary lights that come with it.
Great video as always and thanks for including which lights you bought and from where. Getting them right now....
...bother - I should have been on commission for those things!!

...I'm adding a high power horn to mine next - stay tuned! (my heated seat went straight into the loom by the way, didn't use the Hex for that)...
Yes indeed - don't get me started on insurance.....!
If you change your bulbs to green and red, the GS will look more like a flying Christmas tree. Happy holidays!
I'm liking the way you're thinking!
Bought some of these lights based on your video, £18 is cheap and though my bike can't do the fancy stuff yours does I'm sure the on/off switch will be fine 👍🏻
.....and was it?
TheMissendenFlyer not fitted them just yet, on my list of things to do but they were so cheap I couldn't resist getting them bought
Love how you can change the light settings. Gonna turn my multistrada into a two sheeled disco. Just need to find a place to hang the glitter ball on - as ever great vid!!!!
Hehe - not sure they make one for the MultiStrada do they???
I'm at 0:42 and like yay! The moment you mentioned that CANBUS system, you have my undivided attention, the reason I'm here..
Thanks for the video.. will be putting the EZ can on my wish list 🙏🏼
Glad to help
Such a shame I didn't come across this video first! I've been looking for a CanBus interface for my R1200R for weeks now Andy. Ordered from their U.K outlet in Leatherhead Surrey, received 1 day later and installing next week. Nice!
Going back a while but can you remember if the additional lights you added from Amazon had 2 or 3 wires, as my understanding of the cansmart and hex can system is that it uses the 3rd wire as the dimmer in order to change the brightness of the lights
I don't recall I'm afraid - it was a long time ago that I fitted these!
Nice intro by the way 😉
Cheers Mars0030 - Smoked helmet visors and small number plates are also illegal but don't actually seem to cause an issue....we'll see :0)
Like the dreamed garage, I have already CRF250L, now I need all that space and the BMW
Thanks Anthony, you'll get there!
Got mine fitted now. Rear lights going on this weekend - Thanks for the vid
Great stuff....and no worries!
I did have one smally issue in the time for the wheel to be held to switch up or dim the lights
Hex can and lights on the way.👍👍very good video as always👍👍
Thanks David - did you order the brackets too? I used these >> amzn.to/2lkmKuT to mount to my crash bars...
TheMissendenFlyer there out of stock on your link. They are on eBay same ones but I have a feeling it's the same company.
thanks TMF. Great video as always. I just ordered my HexEz can so this is useful.
Great stuff - cheers Jimmy....
Just getting up to date, brilliant (excuse the pun) set of lights, all about being seen and if they miss you with them then they shouldn't be on the road be safe out there
Yeah I agree, I've been using these for some time now and I have to say they are great - and brilliant value too!
Light update, finally sorted, what a cracking set of lights
Best £30 lights and harness i've spent in a long while ;-)
Thanks for your help
Ride Safe Baza ;-)
Told you they were good!
Noticed the T100 Bonneville in the background of your workshop looks like the one you test road in your review video.
Yep well spotted - Triumph have let me have it for a longer term test....more videos to come on that :0)
Great vid thanks TMF- was initially thinking why you had not gone with a cheaper fuzeblock option but can see the operational difference that the EZcan provides. Liking the strobe effect.
Cheers Gary....
The whole point is that you can't just wire accessories into the fuse box of a bike or car with a CAN-BUS system, hence the EZ -CAN interface.
Correct - the fuzeblock (nippy Normans approx £70) provides a component that is directly connected to battery and allows addition of powered accessories avoiding canbus system - but will not offer the same level of operation that TMF has demonstrated here.
Those lights look like nice pieces of kit & cheap too! 👍🏻
What's not to like!
Thank you.
Thanks Andy - and yes a new horn is on the wish list.... :0) Thanks for watching - TMF
Loving the videos and the varied subject matter. Keep up the good work. All the best
Thank you Clive...
Great video. Do I need to set up left and right to red and orange connections separately in order to get the edge of the left and right turn signals turning off each side separately? Thanks.
I'm afraid I don't recall - sorry about that (this was a while ago!!)
So nearly there with install. Threading the wires through from the front lights is a pain, removed tank panel had to watch video to do that after I removed all the screws and it still didn't come off lol. I have used the laptop to configure How I want the HexEZCan to operate. Connect the wires to it tomorrow .
Crikey - you are having fun David! Best of luck with it...
Excellent work, Chief! 👍🏻
Missenden Flyer, keep up the good work....
Funny, I was just looking at that. Have asked them if it works with the XR...it should.
Thanks for the vid - the product is very impressive.
Rgds
Glenn
Just looking at what?
The device you reviewed in the video.
Got ya - understood - it's good (if expensive)...
Thanks Andy, could you post a link to the ebay shop where you bought the lights please?
TMF do you have a link for the lights, Great videos .Thanks John.........
hello TMF from Canada. if it hasn't already been posted checkout Twisted Throttle, they offer a kit with the lights, harness, horns etc. hope this helps people. Cheers
Had to pause the video and laugh out loud watchng you faff about with the pillion seat! :) It's a right pain in the rear, you're not alone.
Ok, on with the show. I'm sure its gonna be a good one.
...glad it's not just me!
Enjoy watching these videos!! Keep it up mate!
Cheers Erik!
Thanks...and the HexEZcan does also give me the facility to do some fancy things with the rear lights (like flashing on hard braking or deceleration) - so I think in due course I'll fit some more rears too...learning from your mistake!
is the strobing when sounding the horn likely to cause an mot fail?
It hasn't done so far - and I can always turn it off if so (it's just a software switch to disable)....
Hi
On the GSA has stock spotlights would this plug and play with those and still have the same features would you know?
Nice to see you getting a little more dareing, with the gubbins of the bike. If you are interested Bedford college run a basic motorcycle maintenance course, it's 6 weeks long and it runs in April and December. Take your own bike along, take it apart knowing that there is a fully qualified tutor keeping an eye on you all the time.£250 well worth it.
Thanks John - too bad it's so far away otherwise I might be tempted!
Correct!
Yep - I'm keeping all that for a future vid or two :0)
Wow those are bright! Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Very helpful, thanks, I want to do the same. How do you mount lights to the tubular crash bars? Thanks.
Using brackets - link in the description
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks. Duh. I can't believe I missed the link there.
Just got the gs rally and want to fit the same lights.
Another great video. Those lights appear such great value. Pity about the extra cost and hassle to get the CAN bus adapter. Bit pricey if you don't have more than 1 accessory in mind.
True....thanks for watching - TMF
Presumably, this also takes away the need to run power to and have a switch on the handlebars for the lights i.e. the wonder wheel effectively fulfils this role by controlling the light intensity?
+Ian Steele Correct....
13(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in respect of -
(a) a direction indicator;
(b) a headlamp fitted to an emergency vehicle or a vehicle used for special forces purposes;
(c) a warning beacon or special warning lamp;
(d) a lamp or illuminated sign fitted to a vehicle used for police purposes;
(e) a green warning lamp used as an anti-lock brake indicator;
(f) lamps forming part of a traffic sign.
(g) a front position lamp capable of emitting a flashing light (whether or not it is also capable of emitting a steady light) which is fitted to -
(i) a pedal cycle; or
(ii) a trailer drawn by, or a sidecar attached to, a pedal cycle;
and which, if it is a lamp which is required to be fitted pursuant to regulation 18, is capable, when emitting a flashing light, of emitting light to the front of the pedal cycle, trailer or sidecar (as the case maybe) of an intensity of not less than 4 candelas; or
(h) a rear position lamp capable of emitting a flashing light (whether or not it is also capable of emitting a steady light which is fitted to -
(i) a pedal cycle; or
(ii) a trailer drawn by, or a sidecar attached to, a pedal cycle;
and which, if it is a lamp which is required to be fitted pursuant to regulation 18, is capable, when emitting a flashing light, of emitting light to the rear of the pedal cycle, trailer or sidecar (as the case maybe) of an intensity of not less than 4 candelas.
TheMissendenFlyer
Thanks for your thoughts, I think I'll be ordering them, if it is a issue, they can be programmed to not strobe
Do you have any outtake video of the routing of the light wires? Would love to see it and would help with my install.
Sorry no I don't - it was pretty straightforward and obvious for the lights themselves (I thought)...trickiest bit was the Hexezcan to the battery as I showed....good luck!
Rdc stands for Reifen Druck Controle, that is the tirepressure control unit.
How does your navigator V react when you use "the wonderwheel" to dim the lights ?
...I knew that really.... ;0) No issue with the Nav V I've noticed using the wheel to dim the lights, haven't even noticed it reacting at all!!
As always, super informative review. After watching this review I’m certainly getting my hands on a pair. Thanks TMF
Cheers Yuri!
@Kaiden Kane instablaster :)
@Jamie Darius thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jamie Darius It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Kaiden Kane glad I could help :D
Brilliant - thanks for that Karl.....
k4rloGSer Sorry to be a bit of a loser but a flashing white light, day or night is illegal.
Yes air horn is defo on the wish list :0)
wow! those lights are incredible. maybe do a night ride to see how things look?! thanks for all that you do and for sharing. take care.
Yeah I may do that, although to be honest I mainly fitted the extra lights for conspicuity reasons rather than needing additional night lighting (the BMW aux lights are great for that).....thanks for watching - TMF
Great bit of kit, love the strobing for filtering 👍a great safety feature i think. Great vlog as usual 😀
Cheers Paul...thanks for watching.
Hi, would you have any idea if you can hook up the Innovv c5 camera system to one of the auxiliary ports on the HexEzcan? Would save a lot of messing with wires....Thx...
Don't see why not....
Did you just connect positive wires of each light and negative of each light together then to ezcan plug? How does it know what side each light is?
I can't remember now, but as you say there must be a left and right connection so it knows which light to shut off when you indicate....
Cheers
Once the weather drys out and warms up a bit I may well do that Ade - thanks for the idea...
TheMissendenFlyer great stuff. look forward to seeing the comparison.
Hi there,
Looks like a great piece of kit.
TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for getting back to me. Do you have a link to the brackets as my crash bars look the same as yours.
Thanks . Nick
This was so long ago Nick I can't remember - I just follwed the instructions!
Great video, will you be doing a ride at night to see how good they are ?
There's an idea! Thanks for that Christian....
I am new to this hex ezcan or the denali canbus thing.. so with this do we still need to get the wiring harness for the lights and horn (which includes separate relays and fuxes). OR we do not need those. If we do not then how is the fuse and relay part handled ?
No the Hex EZcan replaces that - you set the fuse values in software, clever stuff....
@@TheMissendenFlyer okay so i just need to wire the lights and the horn without the relay and fuse. Directly connect to the hex ezcan and all the load can be handled by the factory harness? I am worried because the BMW dealer told me that adding accessories which utilize the factory harness will void the electrical warranty.
hi did you connect both aux lights to one connector on the hexezcan or two connectors ? thanks
Two - so I could make the most of the indicator off functionality...
was that black/red and black/orange?
wow love those lights what make are they you didn't mention the name.
Check out the link in the description below the video for full details...
+Flaming T - Yes it's that simple - no relay's (or delays!), "fuses" are configured in the software, it really is plug and play...
hey there, great video THX. Buying one for sure.
You're welcome Eddy, thanks for watching...
The lights are awesome!
Yeah I agree :0)
Have you had a look at the PDM60 power distribution module from Nippy Normans. P.S. the Yamaha XSR 900 review was excellent.
No I haven't - is that a similar thing??
It is a simlar thing. I had watched a guy called Craig Ripley do a review on it just this morning and was just wondering if you had come across it.
They done a review and fitting of the PDM60 in the MSL magazine, my impressions were that it can be used to supply power to several accessories, and each output can be programmed to be either always-on or only when the ignition is switched on.
AussieRider is the man when it comes to these things....what he said above....
That is really cool set up you going to add that kit to your CRF????
Ahhh ok, it's still pretty cool looking
Well I am tempted to get some more of those lights and just mount them on the CRF for conspicuity reasons...of course they wont do all the fancy stuff without the HexEZCan as Aussierider says....
...what for the CRF you mean??
I have fitted my Ezcan to my BMW r1200gs LC with no problems. Followed instructions and your video. All working as it should however the RDC tyre monitoring no longer works. I have the orange warning triangle and no preesures displayed. If I disconnect the Ezcan then they work fine. Are you able to assist?
'fraid not Ewan, I'm not an expert on the electronics of the bike - have you contacted Hex?
TheMissendenFlyer I have. They think it's a faulty connection or a faulty cable from Ezcan to RDC. Must be that as everything else works perfectly apart from that and RDC works fine when original plug back in. No one else seems to have had this happen. Thanks anyway, your video was spot on. 😁
And I though Christmas was over... :P
The strobing and alternating with indicator functions are cool
That's what I thought...there's lots more the EZCan can do though....so maybe some more mods later in the year...cheers - TMF
i have just installed this on my bike , but its doing strange things . did you wire both the spots in one fitting or each one to different one ?
when I flash three times its starts flashing and i cant stop it , when i indicate it doesnt switch off ? im really confused . i fitted them together ,could that be the problem ?
Sounds like it may be yes...
Hello. If I use a standard wiring harness with relay, fuse and switch, is it possible to tap into a positive 12v line in front area of the bike e.g. low beam, high beam or parking light cable? Thanks.
Sadly, I've no idea.....sorry!
Yes you can, I did it on my 2008 R1200GS, a few videos online
Iannis Adamopoulos thanks for the reply. I guess your bike has halogen bulbs with separate high and low beam wires. In that case, when you attach the positive lead of the relay to the positive of high beam, you can operate the aux lights with high beam switch. But the new GS with full led headlights do not have separate high and low beam wires in wich you can tap. There is only one main wire that feeds the whole headlight assembly. If you tap into it , your aux lights will be on when the bike is on, something which is not allowed in our trafic laws.
Hi There, quick question, do the lights you mentioned above have the same plug to plugin straight in the HexEXcan?
No - the Hexezcan comes with a set of plugs and leads you need to join to your plug in ancilliaries....not an issue.
@@TheMissendenFlyer just done mine, same lights as yours. Pretty amazing for the price. Thanks for all your virtual help.
So the lighting kit doesn't come with any wiring loom??
The lights don't no - the review this video was talking about was primarily about the HexEZcan which basically is a plug and play Canbus wiring loom...
Hi TMF, I have a question too and forgive me for my poor English. Did you connect the lights on the red or blue circuit of the hex ez can, both lights on one circuit or one on red, one on blue. It looks like you put the positive wires of the lights together and the negatives as well and connect on one circuit with the included pig tail, right? Thanks.
Hi
Them lights are great , been thinking of fitting extra lights on my tiger , nice vid 👍🏻
Cheers Neil...
Hi Flyer are the cheap auxiliary lights holding up well or have you had any problems?? Just watched your gauge upgrade on the speed twin very entertaining. 👍👍👍
Yes still going strong - a bargain!
Sorry if this has been asked.... But does the use of the wunder wheel for the lights affect the use of the wheel for the sat nav?
No it doesn't....
Thanks. ;-)
great vid ordered mine to fit some lights, 3 days from the states and easy fit so thanks. have you fitted an aux power outlet to the EZcan and could you use it to trickle charge the battery
No I haven't - next thing for me is a high power horn....stay tuned!
Hi there another great video very professional I just wondered do you tell your insurance company about your modifications, ? If you have an accident they might not pay out
Yes when it's up for renewal I will give them the low down (I know I should before then but can't really be arsed!)....does that make me a bad person?
Hi TMF, just a quickie, I ordered the Aux lights same as yours, but how and where did you mount them, the brackets in the box did you use them. Thanks in advance.
I mounted them on my engine bars using separate brackets I bought at the time - link below - I didn't use the brackets that came with the lights...
TheMissendenFlyer thanks for quick response, but couldn’t see link!!, sorry
Hi TMF - the EZCan looks great - how have the lights stood up to 12 months of use/power washing please?
Brilliantly, still working absolutely fine...top value for money!
☺ - Arriving today - just the EZcan to source now...
Hi TMF, Just purchased one of your t-shirts... I'm sure it'll look better on me than the leggings :-)
When you purchase your next GS... would you still add on the OEM auxiliary lights? plus add after market lights as you've done?
Those OEM Aux lights are not cheap!! ...as are all good quality farkles.
But it appears after market lights have better functionality available when paired with products like the Hex EZCan as you have done.
Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Standby for a A LOT of female attention in that shirt.....as for your question, probably not no, I'd just go after market as those OEM lights are stupidly expensive in comparison and no better in practice....
How did you connect the wires? Did the lights have 2 or 3 wires?
I don't remember now - was a long while ago!
Wunderbar. I need one for my additional brake lights.....
Seems silly to have to buy it from the USA when it's a South African product. I don't know why it would need Type Approval for Europe as it's only really a programmable switch. Let's hope Nippy Norman's imports some soon!
In terms of candidates for extra front lights I would have thought that the GS would be the least deserving of your expanding stable as it already has immense road presence!!TTFN
...well yes I suppose that's true, but it's also the bike I ride most and on the longest journeys, plus it looks cool with extra lights :0)
hi just wondering how much wire came with the spotlights was it enough to get it to the ezcan
None, and no it wasn't enough ;0)
Can you power 2 auxiliary lights off of 1 output connector as long as amps stay within the 10A limit
Yes you can, but of course you lose the turn signal functionality.....but the EZcan can be configured in that way...
Badass. Wonder if there's anything like this for sportbikes.
Dunno...good question...
Can I replace OEM additional light on 2015 GS R1200 Adv.?
What would be my best replacement option?
Don't see why not - I'd go for these!
I see you are using the Wonder Wheel to control some of the EZcan's functions, do you lose the ability to use the wheel to control the satnav functions? How does it interact with the satnav if you don't? It would be great if an extra screen came up on the satnav with the extra functions on it but I don't suppose it does.
No you don’t lose any functionality from the wheel....
@@TheMissendenFlyer So how do you go from the wheel controlling the Satnav functions to it controlling the EZcan?
Ah! Just watched another video on the EZCan, I see that you hold the wheel over and turn it to control the lights. It's these small snippets of info that make the difference in product videos.
Go on then!, you've convinced me, I've just ordered one. £170 just to turn your lights on and off LOL!
