Just replaced mine, it failed the blow test plus pulled vacuum when unplugged. I had been running lean on both banks (primarily 2/P0174) for months, and recently got a P0300 as well. A local mechanic couldn't figure it out. We suspected a vacuum leak but he found nothing when he smoked it (since the system was still closed, air was just getting sucked in when it shouldn't). The new one doesn't pull vacuum when unplugged and can't be blown through, just as you said. I did not get a code for an evap leak, so I had previously replaced two injectors and replaced the intake manifold gasket twice because I was looking for the misfire and air leak in the wrong places! I think this might have fixed both problems, I have a feeling this is how the unmetered air was getting into the fuel mixture too. Thank you!! Also, for the record, this is in reference to a 2017 FPIU with the 3.7L.
I got a '09 Charger Police Interceptor its got a P0455 code (Major Evap Leak) I'm betting it's the Check Valve on the Evap Canister itself, The "Purge Valve" is under the hood, The Canister is under the Passenger Rear Fender wheel well plastic
I'm stuck at home again. This flu or whatever the hell I have is absolutely kicking my ass. I'm not a sit around kind of guy. I've also seen these purge valves set air/fuel ratio sensor codes as well, on both banks of a v6. The second way you mentioned is how I test em, pull the purge line off and unplug it. It can't be commanded if it's unplugged
I was wondering (this may sound crazy, idiotic or whatnot) if there should be a maintenance interval (ex.10k miles or whatnot) to prevent misfires, c.e.l, etc.?
If you ever install a breathalyzer lock out system can you make a video about it? I'm trying to scare my friends and one of my brothers out of drinking and driving. Blowing through that evap part reminded me of that lol
Oh wow at the end of the Video you saying a Evap Leak could cause random Misfires?? If so then i need to fix my Dodge Charger ASAP. I been putting it off for awhile now. I learn something new almost everyday seems like
on a 2020 Explorer ST I'm getting a P0456 Pending. My research so far indicates a Purge Valve gone bad. However, I can't find it. All research (written / video) are for 2018 or older models. Can you clue me as to where it is on my vehicle? I like to see if removing it and doing the same test you did is in fact the cause of the code. Thank you.
Is it normal for these valve to make noise I've been looking for the noise my transit 250 has been making I put a stethoscope on my purge valve and it's really loud at idle a loud clicking noise I don't hear any noise coming from my cats or accessories but that purge valve is loud. I was going to try to unplug it and see if the noise goes away don't know if it will throw a check engine light
2015 ford explorer sport 3.5 EcoBoost. Dude I need help lol I’ve been having a p301 for a while went away for bit after I changed the coils and plugs. All new coils new plugs x2 and I thought maybe injectors, so I replaced all 6 with Motorcraft and still p301. I did the repair recommend here and I can see on the live data the evap levels became positive but it’s still idling rough with a pending and permanent 301😢 any help would be appreciated gents
I have a 2015 ford explorer. It keeps popping up number 6 coil pack. I put all 6 coil packs in and spark plugs in. Idk why but it still says number 6 coil pack.. do you have any ideal what I could do? I heard maybe a new injector..
I got the P0456 on my 2019 Explorer 3.5 NA. As other suggested, i clean my capless fuel tank and clear the code. I already ran it 1k miles and the code did not return. Should i still replaced the purge valve? TIA
@@williamtackett3814 Cleaned the cover and surrounding with damp lint free towel. I then sprayed WD40 specialist silicone onto the tank cover and slid the plastic funnel in and out couple of times. Then i cleared the code. Have not returned since then. I do have a new OEM valve ready for replacement but i guess the cleaning cleared the small leak.
Would this cause a 2019 explorer hard start, rough running and stalling after the car is warmed up. 3.5 NA. Starts up and runs great when cold after driving for a while once turned off And try to restart I get a crank no start situation. Or if it does start it runs bad form2 secs then dies. Fuel pump replaced in 2019, batt replaced in June and it’s not the Fuel Pump controller.
Thank you! I needed this. You are a great mechanic. Thank goodness i found someone that knows what they are doing.
Very nice explanation, I been try to clean the valve with WD-40 and is been working 80% of the time.blessing.
U can tell he is all to save people alot of money 👍👍👍👍
He seems like a genuinely good guy. It's a shame that trolls and haters have to show up and start shit with him
Thanks brother, had a 2012 come in, p0300, p0301 and p0456. Fixed all for $28, they were quoted $800 at another shop
I use a piece of plastic wrap over the end, it won't get sucked in and will show easily if there is any suction.

@@FordBossMe Just did a live test on LTFT on both banks when driving, and it was around 0-10 instead of 29 like it was before! Woohoo!
@BWDuty605 yeap it'll go up to 10 and stft will keep 0 - 4
This video couldnt have come at a better time. My 2013 F150 EB throws the 456 code from time to time and I am due for emissions.
Good video! Hi, Rich, Preston & Lama! 👋🏻🙂🐶
Yep did the finger vacuum test on a Tahoe and Silverado. Tested bad
Hey thanks just trying to fix these codes on my wife car
Smokin purge man!!
Thanks Rich, Good information.
Last one I fixed, the car had a random misfire code and ran rough when cold. Purge valve was sticking open and allowing fuel vapor into the intake.

Could be an injector or it could be a computer make sure your spark plug gap is correct and don't use no cheap ignition coils

Could a bad cam actuator cause a Po301 misfure?
No it would probably affect way more than just one cylinder it would affect that whole entire Bank so no
👍👍

Hi, can the purge valve still be bad, if I can't blow air thru it? I have the code P0456 and already cleaned the gas cap
Yes
Or vent valve
Ok thank you so much for your quick reply!
Do you ever see this issue with the 5.0 V8?
Not common
are you doing a breatherlizer for them. lol ha,ha,.
Lol
