Robert Plant thinking about his best friend John Bonham while Bonham's son Jason plays the drums. Wow. Emotional. Heart performs an incredible tribute version. Way to to Anne and Nancy. Love. Love. Love.
I'm bawling my eyes out right now. For me Zeppelin were the dream. I've seen them play and nothing was like it before or since. Today's metal fans often have NO idea how POWERFUL Zeppelin were. The US kids got Zeppelin the best, Just a step on from the earlier heavy acid bands like the Revolver to White Album era Beatles, the Doors and Jimi Hendrix. The 70's in Europe was vile from the glitter Rock start while the US still had their latter hippie era to go. All the Stoners loved Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath ('War Pigs' is a classic anti Vietnam War song btw!) Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Neil Young!
Plant admitted in interview that upon hearing this version made him reappreciate the song as he had grown so tired of it. He was proud seeing jason. You can see here how close to tears he is. He was johns best mate

Then years later, the Wilson sisters perform a Led Zepplin classic in front of them, and the members of Zep were so moved by them..
Honestly I don’t think there has ever been a cover of a song done so perfectly before. And it be universally loved by so many fans of the original shows how incredible it was. Robert Plant looked amazed and Jimmy Page looked almost overwhelmed by it. Pure excellence.
I'm still to this day a huge fan of Limp Bizkit covering Sanitarium in front of Metallica. Much as the band makes me cringe that cover was beautifully executed.
This is one of the greatest spectacular performances of all time. It must be something not only to be honoured for your work as musicians but to see your work done in spectacular fashion. I actually like this version more than the original.

The best cover of this song EVER! Ann's voice is so strong and perfect for this song. What can I say about Nancy...she is a rockstar on the guitar! No wonder Led Zeppelin was in tears. No one could have done this like Ann and Nancy Wilson.
What a tribute!! They are obviously huge fans to put in this much work. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant enjoying a bit of immortality. A must learn for every guitar player.
That's how Ann and Nancy got into rock and roll, they were the biggest Zeppelin fans from day one. Their cover of Battle of the Evermore is another cover unequaled
Absolutely! They were incredibly nervous (especially Nancy) before performing this. Zeppelin means so much to them they didn't want to screw up. No need to worry ladies, you were beyond fantastic, and put tears in Roberts eyes. Job more than well done! Will never understand people down voting this!
Raf Van Goolen Totally awesome!! The best rendition of "STAIRWAY" I've ever heard, including from original Led Zeppilin!*! I'm 66 and have lived through the best music ever on this planet. That said, this performance was/is the very best period!🎶🎧👌🌏
Just for one minute try to put yourself in their shoes... or Robert's shoes. Watching this amazing tribute, all the flashbacks and memories, knowing you created an anthem that will live forever.
Javi Perez Truth is Plant actually hates Stairway to Heaven. In fact in the 80s he paid a radio station to stop playing it. When asked about it he just cheekily replies "Its because I've heard it before." The tears are because of Bonham. You see the choir sing with bowler hats on. Bonzo was known to wear bowler hats all the time (which is why Jonathan Bonham on drums is wearing his dad's signature hat). People talk about Plant and Page a lot but very few people know that Plant and Bonzo had a stronger friendship that dates back to their days in Band of Joy. Bonzo was the only one there who comforted Plant when his son Karac (at 5yrs old passed away due to a stomach virus) died. Bonzo was there at the funeral (Page didn't even go). Plant was willing to give up the rocker lifestyle after that because he just wanted to grieve. It was Bonzo who tried to convince him to stay. When John Bonham died, Plant didn't see a reason to continue.
At 5:44 Jason seems to be looking at his father John in heaven, this is a very emotional moment. Though he surely will miss his father, it must just feel great to be the son of Rock's greatest Drummer ever. RIP Bonzo.
Great rendition of the original Stairway to Heaven... I think with Bohams son Jason playing drums Robert Plant and Jimmy Page might have been thinking about John and the old times they had together... The both had tears in their eyes...
My first impression was that Robert Plant was being hyper-critical, but the tears in his eyes at the end showed me the error of my ways! That was quite a beautiful tribute, and as an earlier commentor said , Jason waving to his dad was moving to.
Nancy reflected on the experience of performing for ZEPPELIN members in a new interview with Guy "Favazz" Favazza and John Ulett of the St. Louis, Missouri radio station KSHE 95. She said (hear audio below): "That was so interesting to do that. We were honored to do that, to honor them, and it was a surprise to them. "When you go to do the Kennedy Center Honors show, everybody says, 'Don't tell anybody that you're here. Hide out until the moment that you actually walk onto the stage and do the performance for the person that's being honored.' Of course, the night before, we saw John Paul Jones at the restaurant at the hotel. He was just, like, 'What are you doing here?' I'm, like, 'Oh, nothing. I think we've got a show or something.' "Anyway, it was just one of those moments where we had to take a really deep breath before we walked out there," Nancy continued. "And we didn't even know what just happened until a couple of weeks later when we actually got to watch the show - the edited broadcast of the show. And we saw what happened then. It was, like, 'Oh my god!' That was such a moment. And also the other thing about it was that Jason Bonham, who's the son of their original drummer, John Bonham, was the drummer. And [Jason] grew up around those guys when they were young LED ZEPPELIN. So I'm sure that was part of their emotional reaction - was to see young Jason Bonham with a bowler hat that John Bonham used to wear all the time; he was notorious with his bowler hat. So all of those things combined, I think, led to them feeling emotional with that performance. "It was really one of those life moments that you're never gonna forget," she added. "Just like, 'Okay, I was part of that, and that was really cool.' [Laughs]" Asked if any of the LED ZEPPELIN members said anything to HEART about their performance after the event, Nancy said: "They did. There was a big sort of a dinner thing afterward, and each one of them came around to our table. And John Paul Jones was just, like, 'That was awesome.' And then Robert Plant said, 'You know what? I've come to hate that song so much, 'Stairway To Heaven', because everyone just murders it. But you guys did great.' And then Jimmy Page walks up, and he goes, 'Okay, you played that really perfect.' And I said, 'No, you can't tell me that.' 'Cause he's Jimmy Page - 'cause he's one of my best guitar idols of all time. I was, like, 'Okay, I can die now.' I'm a superfan."
It can be downloaded with the right program. Do a google search. If you value this the way you seem to, I don't think the Wilsons or the Zep would mind.
At the end their faces pretty much sum up the feelings this song causes the listener to feel. John Paul Jones=The subtle joy of nostalgia Robert Plant=Bittersweet tears Jimmy Page=Overwhelming joy
My dad just passed April 19th 2018 he was 60 yrs young and died in a fatal car crash and he loved Ann and Nancy Wilson he would say nothing gets better than them singing one of his favorite bands led zeppelin's song stairway to heaven well dad you finally made it to your stairway to heaven I love you and I know your at peace love always cori ❤❤❤
Cori Minns I'm your dad's age. I discovered Heart in the summer of 1975. They blew my mind and like your dad I fell in love with their music. I know your dad would be happy that you appreciate "his" music, and that you love him. Keep his memory, and cherish your memories of him. Bless you and your family. Now go listen to some Bowie and some Allman Brothers. I am betting he liked them too!
WTF.....well maybe he does or doesn't. Did he tell YOU that? Were you sitting in that box with him? looks like he is pretty moved by it so. whats your point.
Rodney Stewart My point was that heart did a really great job...jeez calm down, I thought it was common knowledge that plant hates stairway...personally I think it’s the greatest rock song ever written!!!
Hahah...well ok. your first comment had a Snarky tone. My bad. I hate haters. I do know he thought Kashmir was going to be there mega hit not Stairway. But never heard he hated it. Friends?
PianoRel yes yes, the humanity... the diversity on that stage, the passion from the performers, the honorees' humbledness, the song, the beauty of humanity. Not an opinion, but a fact.
PianoRel it's rock and roll. It's only rock and roll. No peace treaties, no cures for cancer or poverty, just sold out stadiums and ticket sales. Then just to add insult to injury, hip hop came piggyback on rock's success and put as many dangerous minds as guns into an already beleaguered culture....
Major shoutout to the guitarist, playing the solo of one of the most prolific songs of all time for Jimmy Page and the other gents from Zeppelin, not to mention Jason Bonham playing with him on the kit... Probably one of the most spiritual moments of that guy's life
You, Nicholas obviously have never heard the hundreds of covers of Zeppelin, that Heart have done over the decades, with permission from the band itself, due to its high level of skill and musicanship..
Wow!! You absolutely nailed it!! These guys were way way way ahead of there time. And people are finally giving them their do. I think Led Zeppelin 2 (album) was the greatest written and produced that has ever been. It was 1969, unbelievable.
Rock will come back when people want it back. "Stairway" wasn't just created by will. It was skill, talent, hours, and the momentum of the most heralded band of the '70s. Many say even Zep didn't produce anything as good in its wake.

Jimmy Page shaking his head and screaming,Robert Plant crying, well done from the Wilsons and the Band...
watched this 400x. Have turned this on to my family and friends.awsome performance.

same here
The best cover of this song EVER! Ann's voice is so strong and perfect for this song. What can I say about Nancy...she is a rockstar on the guitar! No wonder Led Zeppelin was in tears. No one could have done this like Ann and Nancy Wilson.
Wow did you actually listen to her rendition before commenting ?? yes it was done well but with half the strength and enthusiasm of Led Zeppelin !
You are wrong @swtctysue . Your lack of thumbs up on your comment proves it
What a tribute!!
Why does everyone overlook John Paul?
The drummer in this performance is Jason Bonham...John Bonham's son. Hence the drummer's teary eyes
Try not to cry
try not to cry
try not to cry
try not cry
....... cry a lot 😥❤️
I will only give this 16 out of 10.
Igor Flexus 100
Only 16 out of 10?
Igoir- one of the best comments ever. hell yeah
I'd give this 69 outa 10.😉😉😉
Amazing performance by Ann & Nancy Wilson, the orchestra and the whole choir. Really superb recording👍.
Raf Van Goolen Totally awesome!! The best rendition of "STAIRWAY" I've ever heard, including from original Led Zeppilin!*! I'm 66 and have lived through the best music ever on this planet. That said, this performance was/is the very best period!🎶🎧👌🌏
Wonderful
Raf Van Goolen I got the goosebumps
Sheldon Cooper's guitar solo 😱
Suraj Kenpachi I was thinking the same! looks an awful lot like him
shouldn't have been improvised, if you are paying tribute it should've been as it was written.
Suraj Kenpachi man I was thinking the same thing..lmfao!!
Suraj Kenpachi that guy looks more like Stewart
Suraj Kenpachi jimmy page looking like a proud father when he hears it
Ann wilson is the perfect choice to cover this song.
Anne and Nancy did the best cover of Stairway I've ever witnessed!
Just for one minute try to put yourself in their shoes... or Robert's shoes. Watching this amazing tribute, all the flashbacks and memories, knowing you created an anthem that will live forever.
Javi Perez well said! That is such a powerful thing to think about...
Even better, try putting yourself in his place for 6 minutes and 10 seconds.
Well said sir...
Well said my man
Never gotten goosebumps to such an extent before
SOOP CHILLS.
Anyone here in 2024?
2024
It will still be heard in 2034🎸🥁

To me, one of the greatest live performances in the history of music.
To me one of the greatest live performances in the history of music.

At 5:44 Jason seems to be looking at his father John in heaven, this is a very emotional moment. Though he surely will miss his father, it must just feel great to be the son of Rock's greatest Drummer ever. RIP Bonzo.
Rock's greatest drummer is ginger baker
heart kills it with stairway, sooo damn good
I watch this every single day!!!

I´ve seen it a hundred times!

With tears every day. This never gets old.
I'm crying listening to this beautiful song. My late older brother loved Led Zeppelin. I know why.
Great rendition of the original Stairway to Heaven... I think with Bohams son Jason playing drums Robert Plant and Jimmy Page might have been thinking about John and the old times they had together... The both had tears in their eyes...

GREAT JOB GIRLS
arguably one of the best rock female voices of all time
Elvin Black one of the best rock voices. period.
Elvin Black agreed
Elvin Black I agree 100%!

Argue ... best female rock voice hands down
Stevie nicks
If anyone can hit Robert Plant's vocal range, it's Ann Wilson!
They did an absolutely fabulous job, but gotta feel it for the original.. That guitar solo alone, was an event..
Pretty sure Ann is some kind of immortal.
My first impression was that Robert Plant was being hyper-critical, but the tears in his eyes at the end showed me the error of my ways! That was quite a beautiful tribute, and as an earlier commentor said , Jason waving to his dad was moving to.
may i ask at what part did he wave i think i missed it
@@saltypeanut4209, there is a full version of this that is 8 minutes long, look for it.
EXACTLY my thoughts! I felt the same way
Well Nancy sang it far better than he ever did in any of Led Zeppelin's concerts, so...
@@eanayac Nancy's the one playing the acoustic guitar, idiot.
There's two kind of people, who cried and the liars.
Alessio Scanu Apparently three kinds. The tone deaf nutjobs who disliked this video are the third kind.
TO BE A ROCK AND NOT TO ROLL..THATS PRETTY PROFOUND!!
i got tears in my eyes at the end. long live british rock, the only rock that matters (im not british)
They nailed it! Zeppelin themselves were astonished!
Another aspect of it was that Jason Bonham was on drums...
Ann Wilson has the most powerful voice she is amazing
I think we've got a show or something.'
"Anyway, it was just one of those moments where we had to take a really deep breath before we walked out there," Nancy continued.
"Just like, 'Okay, I was part of that, and that was really cool.' [Laughs]"
Asked if any of the LED ZEPPELIN members said anything to HEART about their performance after the event, Nancy said: "They did. I was, like, 'Okay, I can die now.' I'm a superfan."
this is beautiful please don't take it off for copyright reasons.
Rick Martyn this came off of the Kennedy center channel
Rick Martyn this was uploaded by the creators.
this channel owns the copyrights
It can be downloaded with the right program. Do a google search. If you value this the way you seem to, I don't think the Wilsons or the Zep would mind.
what copyrights ? :P
At the end their faces pretty much sum up the feelings this song causes the listener to feel.
John Paul Jones=The subtle joy of nostalgia
Robert Plant=Bittersweet tears
Jimmy Page=Overwhelming joy
James Broyles I feel like John Paul Jones is listening to it as an arranger and saying, "Wow! Who did this with our song? I gotta shake their hand!"
James Broyles John was Heart's producer in the early 80's.
Wow, Robert is trying really hard to hold back the tears. It must be so emotional for him. I felt it. What an amazing performance...
I personally think he was wishing that John Henry Bonham was there, they were so close and his death still stays with him.
He was thinking in his son, Karac. Must be so hard for him.
Mark Schrupp Oh yes, most definitely. Probably, thinking about his son too.
Robert who

...if this isn't music...
...this is magic. This is ROCK!
I think robert remember when he was young
My dad just passed April 19th 2018 he was 60 yrs young and died in a fatal car crash and he loved Ann and Nancy Wilson he would say nothing gets better than them singing one of his favorite bands led zeppelin's song stairway to heaven well dad you finally made it to your stairway to heaven I love you and I know your at peace love always cori ❤❤❤
Cori Minns God bless ♥️
Thank you I miss him every day it's been so hard on me but I know he's at peace nw ❤❤❤
I am so sorry for your loss Cori. I know what it feels like too. Your Dad is at peace now. God Bless Him Always.
Gus Toffales thank you so much for your kind words it means alot to me ❤❤ God bless you :)
When an orchestra & choir are assisting in singing one of your own songs to you, that's the moment when you truly know that you are pretty hot shit.
RobertDeville It was literally everything.
This is exactly why Ann and Nancy Wilson are legends in their own right. Fantastic 🙏❣️
so moving....you bring Plant to tears with his own song. side note....Page looks likes he's enjoying this to the max.
Rodney Stewart his own song that he says he hates!!! Bravo!!!
WTF.....well maybe he does or doesn't. Did he tell YOU that? Were you sitting in that box with him? looks like he is pretty moved by it so. whats your point.
Rodney Stewart
My point was that heart did a really great job...jeez calm down, I thought it was common knowledge that plant hates stairway...personally I think it’s the greatest rock song ever written!!!
Hahah...well ok. your first comment had a Snarky tone. My bad. I hate haters. I do know he thought Kashmir was going to be there mega hit not Stairway. But never heard he hated it. Friends?
Rodney Stewart of course ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
In my opinion this whole video reflects how beautiful humanity can be. You can feel passion and a lot of emotions everywhere. How beautiful this is.
PianoRel vomit. Mitch and Muhammad are the anti christ. Not compatible.
You bet. Everytime I hear It, It makes me cry
I cry reading this comment.
I saw Led Zeppelin do this in Sydney Australia back in the day, this performance is as memorable as that.......
That was around '72 or so? 🤔
Living in Australia we never really saw Ed Sullivan show....
but imagine the world if it would have never happened... we are lucky that it did happen!
Major shoutout to the guitarist, playing the solo of one of the most prolific songs of all time for Jimmy Page and the other gents from Zeppelin, not to mention Jason Bonham playing with him on the kit... Probably one of the most spiritual moments of that guy's life
Plant whispering "Oh my..." at 4:19 and his expression afterwards always bring tears to my eyes
It not crying, i just got something in my eye….🥲🙄
The music arranger is an absolute genius.
Tickets at Led Zeppelin's first performance were only $4.00 loved to be transported back in time to that 1st performance. 👍😎🎤🎸🎶🎵🎧
Why will rock be hard to come back? Because it takes a hundred people to replicate the will of four.
It was 1969, unbelievable.
can i share your quote ?
Nicholas Hillyer you talked my thoughts bro..
Rock will come back when people want it back. "Stairway" wasn't just created by will. It was skill, talent, hours, and the momentum of the most heralded band of the '70s. Many say even Zep didn't produce anything as good in its wake.
