I'm so happy someone understood how messed up that threesome was, while watching it i was like "isn't that SA ??" and then saw no one speaking up about it, that made me sooo uncomfortable.

I will always defend cash with my LIFEEE, people don’t understand how hard it is to leave that type of lifestyle especially when it’s all you’ve ever known. But also like you said they aren’t the type to just let you leave easily, they are the type to make you feel like you’re betraying them for leaving and wanting a better life.
If anyone is curious about Malakai’s race he is a native Australian before the english came over. (Missy is also Bundjalung) I’m really happy of the diversity in this show and it is amazing to see indigenous inclusion!!

The cop was straight up racist, Malakai didn’t do really anything other then the (white) people around him (racism happens a lot in Australia to aboriginals/natives there unfortunately)
Yep! Rough episode but important to spread awareness to international audiences!. Quick statistic - In Australia 33% of male prisoners are Indigenous even though only 3% of Australia's population is Indigenous (2023). Too many cops, not enough justice.

As an Australian, it is so fun watching people from other countries react to this especially because there are so many little things (mainly jokes but some deeper things) about Australian culture that are more than likely missed by most people outside of Australia.

Hello, your representative for Australian teenagers here to explain some things for non-teenage Australians and other people:
-1:30 I'm 99% sure they're stealing from a super rich person's house, not a store
-12:35 at my school, about 1/3 of the Chemistry curriculum was practical, so we actually got to do that stuff every 2 or 3 weeks. It's possibly a Catholic school thing, but it was fully built into the curriculum, and we were tested/graded on it sooo.
-14:20 Eshays are a stereotypical group of people in Australia, typically boys and young men who look/dress like Ca$h and his mates, and engage in reckless or criminal behaviour. Think, the anti-VSCO girl.
-19:42 The pool they're swimming in is a public saltwater pool (very common in Sydney). They're typically connected at the end of a beach and are made from either concrete, natural erosion or a mix of both. I was born in Sydney and the one in my area was completely manmade with concrete. Where I live now, there's also one of those pools and it has a bit of concrete, but is mostly made by nature.
-20:16 yeah idk how common celebrating pride is at Australian schools. Gay marriage was legalised in 2017 here and my teachers at my Catholic school left their "Vote No" stickers on their computers even after it became legal.
-22:24 Believe it or not, we got talks from the police at my school, a surprising number of times. The whole thing that happens next with the gender separation and the girls learning how to defend themselves bears a striking resemblance to what happened at my school. The whole self-defence thing could have been taught by a martial arts person, which is what my school did, but it's much more accessible to get the police (and I can imagine, makes students take it more seriously). While the girls at my school were taught how to defend ourselves by a creepy jiu ji tsu instructor, the boys got to go swimming. In a similar situation, while the girls got taught about "expressing our emotions", the boys got to go swimming at the beach, directly after we had been told we couldn't do that.
-30:17 okay so a bit of backstory about the history of Australian relation to First Nations people:
When Australia was first colonised by the British in the late 1700s, they declared it "Terra Nulls": No man's land. This completely ignored the population of roughly 750,000 Indigenous Australians, who were and are part of one of the oldest continuous cultures' in the world. Over the next few decades, Australia was used for the British to send their convicts. They pushed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders from their traditional lands, in spite of natural environment and connection to land playing an instrumental role in their culture and wellbeing. Indigenous Australians were also subject to innumerable forms of abuse both on individual and institutional levels during this time (I won't go into the specifics because there's simply too much, but it's just a quick google search away if you wanna read up about it). To give you an idea about it, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were counted amongst the ANIMAL population until 1967.
In the 18 and 1900s, the government began forcefully removing Indigenous children from their parents and placing them with white foster families, or institutionalised homes. These people and this practice became known as the Stolen Generations. The aim was essentially cultural genocide: stop the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from having any connection to their land, family or culture, causing it and them to die out. The homes were rife with socially ingrained prejudice and racism and led to many children suffering abuse of multiple kinds from their caregivers. The practice technically ended in the 1970s, but the repercussions affect a massive portion of indigenous Australians.
Police treatment of Black people of African descent in the US, bears a striking resemblance to police treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people in Australia. Incarceration rates, deaths in custody, criminal records, unfair court verdicts and even killing by police. The rates are higher. This group makes up 33% of the incarcerated population, despite comprising less than 4% of the national population. There is severe systemic discrimination against them and Malakai's interaction with the police is indicative of this. The number of young Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander men who experience police brutality in Australia is insanely high. This is why there was a trigger warning at the beginning and why it means so much more for him than it would for anyone else in the show.

Malakais scene with the police is a very important part of the show, and his arc which follows is one of the first times this sort of thing has been represented in mainstream media. Its heartwarming to see but also very sad that discrimination of Indigenous Australians is such a large issue.

Violence against our First Nations people (indigenous) is unfortunately quite common in Australia. It’s a specific type of prejudice that is especially important because of the history of our countries past. The discrimination against aboriginals was especially common during the colonisation of Australia during the 1700’s. There’s a lot of protection against the indigenous population, which is why it caused a “riot”. It’s something people are very very sensitive about here. And yes, that was 100% sexual assault, especially as Harper and dusty were both sober. It’s disgusting
