In today’s video I’m showing you how I gave our front porch a much needed cleaning and refresh. I sanded and refinished the wood porch cover, painted the bricks and sealed them, made a planter box and made a matching gate to close off the top section of our porch for the dogs to hang out. It was a simple transformation and I’ll show you all about it in todays video.
I hope you enjoyed this video and found some useful information. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this video and I'd love to see your porch makeover, be sure to tag me when you do @Wood_Brain on Instagram.

Turned out great! Don't forget to seal the gate and top rails!
Will do
I love how it came out!!!
When I first saw the bricks in the sneak peek, I thought they were like a rose quartz? They look so good! And that final whitewash really tied them together :)
That planter really draws your eye up, and having the plants off the floor will stop the porch from feeling cluttered or leaves getting caught. Looks great :)
Can't wait to see what you do next!
Glad you liked the video thank you so much for watching and commenting
Everything about this video I love. The wood railing, the brick painting, the colors, the gate…EVERYTHING!
Glad you like it thank you for watching comment

Wasn’t sure about painting the individual bricks, but can’t believe how amazing it turned out! Great job! You have a visual eye.
Thanks Peter, I wasn’t sure at first as well, but I’m stoked on the outcome. Thanks for watching and commenting
The wood cladding over the old iron railing is such a great idea. Really looks great! I miss living in California.
Glad you like it Jordan, thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much friend
Love the new look Lyndsay 🤍 the 3 different color wood too! Stunning
Thanks friend
I need to build a gate for my top stairs. I don't have a pocket hole jig, but this was still inspiring. And my deck needs tons of work, plus a cool wood tableset my father-in-law built that needs sanding and sealing. So many things your project is inspiring me on! Thank you.
You got this friend! Stoked you found some inspiration… good luck and you got this!
It's the bricks for me. Love it

I like the cut of your jib! I just stumbled upon your channel (thanks to Ms Metz). Actually I recognized you from many of her videos but just now checked you out (shame on me for procrastinating). Anyway, this porch makeover looks super sharp. I love the paint job. Now I’ll have to do a deep dive on a bunch of your videos over the next week. You are very talented and will go far. I just need to catch up to you!
Ahhh well thanks my friend, hope you enjoy my content… keep being rad my friend!
This was amazing!!!!
Thanks for watching friend
This looks amazing! Such great ideas! Just a couple of questions, why didn’t you seal the gate and planter? Was the wood presealed? And does the planter needs some holes in the bottom for the water to drain away? Just found your channel through Rachel’s and I can’t stop watching your videos 😆 so good! Glad you’re doing this full time now so you can make more stuff! X
Oh thank you so much friend I sealed the wood to protect it from the weather and elements the planter box that I put inside of the wood box I built has a built in tray for draining so that it’s never sitting in water also that’s why I went with a snake plant so that I don’t need to water it as much hope that helps answer some of your questions thanks again for watching and commenting … have a rad day friend
@@wood_brain thank you for replying!!!!!! Love your channel! X

OMG … I didn’t even realize that the wood was over this type of railing and seeing this now, WOW, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GENIUS! I see this kind of railing all the time and I would have never thought to just use it as a frame.
So glad you liked my idea, thanks for watching and commenting friend
Lindsay. You are so, so talented. I absolutely love your creations! Congratulations on your new adventure. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next!
Ahhh thank you so much friend
You did an awesome job - loved seeing the transformation! It looks gorgeous!
Love you guys!
Love this! The refresh on the bricks is so good, wondering how they will hold up to foot traffic! The Pupster gate is brilliant.
Thanks friend, I’m hoping it will hold up, but I’ll keep you updated.
👍💪
It turned out so great! I would like more details as you are building. I can tell you have been building for years and look forward to learning more from you.
Thank you so much friend, glad you dig it!

You forgot to seal the top wood, the planter and the gate :)
Yup
She didn’t show it on here, but she showed it on her IG :) she sealed it right before a rainstorm hit her home :) lol
I did end up sealing it, thanks friend
Gorgeous! Love your style!
Thank you so much
I watched the whole transformation while you were showing snippets on IG stories so I wasn't sure if we were gonna get a video. I'm so glad we did! I wish you would have included the rainy bits 😂 I definitely relate! It looks so good! I love the gate!
Thanks so much friend glad you liked it and glad you got to see the whole thing on here
This turned out so good! I have the same railing situation and absolutely need to do this to cover it
Heck yeah friend, cover it!
Beautiful work! How did you attach the wood to the railing?
I made a wood skeleton that was the same thickness of the cast iron fencing and sandwich the pieces on both sides to the wood
This turned out awesome! Great job. I loved both renditions of the painted brick. I think the 2nd method was the way to go though.
Thanks friend, glad you dig it
How about a rug at the front door?
On it, thanks for the reminder
I did see that you sealed any of the new wood, did I miss something?
I spray sealed it, in a quick time lapse section towards the middle of the video.
Do you have footage on how did u build that wood fence over the iron fence?
It was all on my phone for Instagram, I posted a few short clips in the very beginning but I didn’t have good quality footage to add to this video sorry
@@wood_brain l have an iron fence just like it and that is my solution...thank you you gave me a great idea..I will try to build it...see how it goes. Thank you
Not sure if you remembered to seal the top wood pieces of the rail. Maybe you did and I just missed it.
Always a critic in the bunch ! Yes, she said she was going to seal it!
Yes I sealed it it may have not shown in the video but thanks for the heads up I appreciate it
I have a bit of OCD. I was worried you had forgotten. The front porch turned out great 👍. You are very talented and gifted. Happy New Year. 🎉 I'm looking forward to seeing more projects on your channel 😀.
