I never get tired of listening to Earls guitar playing on diamond dogs tour 74. When I was young in the 80s and 90s, taking speed and coce, listening to these live recordings... 💥

I played bass in a band with Slick... short lived but was called NYC . I was the last complete the band.
We met in Pasadena, CA at the singers house who I had met not long before that. We all went up to San Francisco to rehearse and record which we did but the band account had basically run dry due to illegal substances. The other guitarist was from a popular bay area group 707.
Slick was great to play with and, like you said, the real deal. I remember the band coming to my hotel room for a little party and Slick had this really cool Studebaker Hawk car..rockstarred out. I went to the store with this chick who's brother played bass with Huey Lewis and I was in a robe and slippers but went anyway, lol, and we never came back to my room! She took me across town to her place..ANYWAY the next morning the guys show up to get me..I wanted to go back and get dressed but the guys were hungry so there I was walking through Mill Valley in my robe. It was a very cool robe, but still!
That was a most memorable time on that trip.
Back to the music, when we played it felt great. Absolutely.
I remember playing at winter NAMM with Slick and Kevin on guitar and me on bass at the Guild booth and there was lots of cameras and media that came out of nowhere as soon as we sat down to play. People that saw it on MTV said It was a special NAMM report they did.
I wish I had that clip.
As soon as we sat down to play in front of a large crowd Slick says to me, play something James...and I looked at him thinking wtf should I play, with both Slick and Kevin looking at me as if to say, well???
So I busted out with a funky bass groove and ran through some blues progressions and they jumped in on it and we jammed Slick style. It was bad ass! I haven't seen him in a few years but he looks great. He still has my Pearl octave stomp box. He had one just like mine and they got mixed up...they were the best out at the time. I'd brought it home from Japan..
Would be great to play with him again.
I have played with Roger Daltrey, Eddie Money, David Lee Roth, Vince Neil, to name a few. I appear on Walter Trout's newest release "Broken" featuring Beth Hart and just did a video with Dee Snyder and Walter for the second release, "I've had enough". Dee kills it
Thanks for your work and presentations!
    Jamie Hunting- bassist

I like how he uses a quarter as a guitar pick. I once asked him and he said, 'good ear.' What a cool dude. And his stuff with Lennon. Out of this world for sensibility and musicality.

I honestly didn't know much about Earl Slick and, as a Beatle fan, mainly checked out this interview to hear any John Lennon stories. 2+ hours? Had no intention of listening to the whole thing.
But here I am 2 hours later and I really enjoyed listening to him discuss his career. Learned and laughed a lot. Thanks!

Seeing his personality i can see how him and Bowie would work well together but have a distance or tension If we can called that. But he clearly liked David and respected him, they made great, fantastic stuff together.
