- Covering the platformers on the Genesis was a huge undertaking. Be sure to check out part 1 for more games.
This is part of the videos from the first run of my channel. They have technical and editing issues that I am not going back to fix. They are presented as they are.
Check out my current content!
Seeing the TazMania game hitted me hard on my heart. i used to play a lot of Genesis back when i lived with my mom and fraternal twin. I didnt have as much as i have now, but i wish i could go back to the simpler days of my 8 year old childhood
This channel is great. As someone who has mostly stuck to Nintendo and Playstation all of my life, i keep coming back to it just to discover more SEGA gems
Quackshot was gorgeous, and the music was damn near CD quality.
Donald Duck eats roasted chicken to regain his health? That's messed up.
Ducks will eat roasted chicken in real life. And so will pigeons. Try it out!!!
I mean, birds eat other birds
@@SonofSethoitae monkeys eat other monkeys, fishes eat other fishes, insects eat other insects. "Bird" is a class, not a specie.
@@OdaVenom That is exactly my point
@@SonofSethoitae Yet... actually think about this: Gyro Gearloose is a chicken.
That's some Tooth and Tale shit right there, it's REALLY messed up when you dig deeper... :|
I just found your channel. I'm also a Sega fan. I really liked their games. My favorite Genesis game of all time is GUNSTAR HEROES and play it to this day. Saturn favorite IS RADIANT SILVERGUN. Dreamcast favorite is SOUL CALIBUR. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks. Subbed.
The best dreamcast game was jet grind radio. And project justice in a close second.
No platform list is complete without GUNSTAR HEROES. It beats every other platform game hands down :)
I am watching your channel since a while and I can say that you have one of the best channel about Sega universe. Well done it's very interesting and I look forward to next content
Thank you. Appreciate the message. :)

I only count 19 games.
Let me know which one I missed and the timecode where it begins.
Welcome back Sega Lord! I hope your return works out well and that your passion keeps shining through! I'm glad I won't need to keep these backups of your videos as handy for when I feel like watching some great Sega videos
Thanks for the kind words bud. :)
Can I get you to email me at segalordx@gmail.com? I have a favor to ask.
Sure thing, sent a message your way.
Thankyou for your hard work, and dedication to the mega drive🤟
Childhood memories FOREVER 🤟
Just a couple to include to this list:
Flinstones games; Tom and Jerry; The Pagemaster.
Always happy to see love for the Genesis E.S.W.A.T. Super under-rated title.
Vectorman is....the man!
Nice parts 1 and 2. What I really missed was Mega Turrican - Run and Gun, Plattformer, great graphics and soundtrack
Whether you're planning a part 3 or not, you should really take a look at Puggsy, if you've not before. It's got an amazing art style, one of the best soundtracks on the Mega Drive, and really innovative gameplay (for its time). I'm not sure if it's a very well known game, I've always had the impression it's a bit obscure and a bit of a hidden gem, then again maybe everyone knows about it by now 😊
I got pugsby!.. Haven't played it.. Tho.. Lol..
Ploks awesome
I loved playing Pugsy! One of my favourite genesis games. I think there was 51 levels in total from memory. Great atmosphere and creative gameplay when collecting and using items to complete levels.
its not exclusive to the platform afaik.
@@diegocrusius true, there's also an Amiga version and a Mega CD version.
I was a big fan of Chakan back i. The day. It starts off very slow and takes a while to get moving, but once you’ve cleared a couple stages, it gets much better and ends on a strong note.
Another awesome video mate. Love the sega contents as always
Thanks so much for the McDonald's Treasure land approval as a must own, I totally agree! Not enough people know just how good it is! That last boss battle music man!
With you mentioning the McDonalds game, I was surprised to see that you didn't show Mick & Mack Global Gladioters. I do remember it having very nice (pumping) music and neat sfx. Never can get that bg-music from the first stages out of my head. Graphics weren't bad either, and kind of fun. Had a nice bonus stage too.
Rolo to the rescue was also a nice game, being able to switch different animals to get to different sections of the stage.
I discovered your channel yesterday and now I'm watching all the videos.
Your content is superb!!!!
Grettings!
Thanks. Really happy to hear you enjoy it.
Most of your comments are spot on, at least in my opinion. Now, I would never recommend buying Greendog back in the day, but as a kid, I found it to be a fine rental. Glad to hear someone else hating on Chakan.
Hated Chakan. Uhg.
I always wanted to play chakan, but couldn't find it. It looked cool! The video store always had the box, but never had the actual game in stock. And toys r us never had it ever where I lived.
Really enjoying your channel, just discovered there's more good platformers I still need than I realised!!
Sega pride 👍
What about Pitfall The Mayan adventure thats a fantastic game one of my fave platformers for the megadrive.
That was one hard ass game.
Another classic video great job
Thanks Mark. Appreciate that. :)
Man, a lot of great games in this listing!
A few I've played, such as Vectorman, Jungle book, and X-Men being a few of my favorites!
There are actually times when I want to test my patience and suffer a little, and Chakan the Forever Man is there for me for such occasions!
"As rare as rocking horse shit" Omg that had me rolling! Lmao. I'm gonna have to use that one.
I dunno why some people don't like Greendog. I love this game and it annoys me that Sega never put it on their Megadrive collections.
Thanks for the videos. I'm a huge fan of your show. I even like they way you critique and your choice in wording. I almost completely disagreed with everything you said about Vectorman. I was particularly surprised when you dissed the soundtrack lol. I guess that just boils down to preference. I learn a lot from you and I'm grateful for gaming experts like yourself for giving me guidance when I don't know what to play.
Got Chuck Rock bundled with my Amiga back in the day. Remembered loving it (I was around 12yo). Spider-Man vs Kingpin was my favourite game that I owned on the MD.
Childhood crushed 😂
Great video. Would be interested in future installments, including a review of Jurassic Park and Comix Zone.
How did Boogerman not make the list?!
That last song playing on the McDonald's segment reminded me a lot of Sonic. Casino Night Zone?
Thanks for your video it’s nice to see gameplay I have a bunch of sega genesis games that Iam cleaning up now.and testing what is your favorite type. Rpg sports racing beat up ?
Well the forever man is essentially the worst kind of immortal. He cannot die but can be hurt, damaged, basically a living corpse. That fall would pretty much be game over for him as putting himself back together would take quite a bit of time. In fact, that's kind of what the ending was about. He kills all the evil in the world, as his deal with death was to grant him death if he would wipe out all evil, however, Death reveals to him this was but one world and there are a nearly infinite number worlds in the universe he still hasn't cleaned, and now he is stuck on a single world looking out to his next targets, literally having forever to get to them, but without the means. He will continue to live until the day comes where he has a way to get to those worlds and defeat the evil there. It's kind of a joke Death is playing on him really. I mean did you want to developers to have you keep playing as the living pile of goo at the bottom of the cliff screaming in agony for all eternity? Of course, not, you die by falling off a cliff, because in all seriousness he cannot continue his mission in that state.
This is the most considered reply I've read so far for this game and y'know what? You're absolutely right.
Awesome video as always!!!
Thank you sir. :)
No love for Flink ?
13:13 you’re my favorite reviewer when it comes to disappointment. so funny 😆
Quack shot is definitely a Genesis classic. Gargoyles was a great game and an ok tv show.
Missed your chance to cover Global Gladiators with McDonald's Treasure Land. Can you believe it's also not garbage? The soundtrack in particular is rockin'. It was developed by the same team that did Cool Spot that went on to do Earthworm Jim (same composer, Tommy Tallirico on all 3). Another platformer with a rocking soundtrack is Socket. It's just an okay Sonic clone, but the music is some of the best on the system; it was developed by Vik Tokai, the same people that did Decap Attack.
Even though Chakan is brutally unfair, I still love that game. Still play it all the time (on Practice difficulty becaus I'm not a masochist)
Spiderman Vs The Kingpin, Maximum Carnage and Xmen 2 Clone wars are some the Sega Mega Drive games I never completed they are a myth. Spiderman Vs Kingpin I got to the last boss after numerous failed attempts of putting those keys in the bomb (I think you have to do it in the correct order, even though the game doesnt tell you) and then I saw MJ danging from a chain being lowered into acid and had to defeat kingpin in time and I assume web the chain to stop it. Never ever managed to do it.
Your opinions on the Taz games are exactly how I feel, but damn I want to play it again anyway 😁
Spiderman VS Kingpin was my second favorite Genesis game behind only Batman.
12:53 "Them the breaks"? I don't remember that voice clip in the US release? Was this from another region release?
Japan.
kind of bizarre either way lol
You missed the amazing puzzle platformers that are Puggsy and Fantastic Dizzy
Taz Escape From Mars was the first Genesis game I owned.
What about Alex Kidd?
Chakan, i love how the sword movement handled for some reason.... very hard game though...
Was also a huge fan of GreenDog.. sound, graphics, simple gameplay... loved how those dogs would eat your health...
@@bjbegui Could never find greendog or chakan. Maybe I'll look for it on emulator. Those two games were heavily advertised when I was a kid, but I never found them anywhere.
I never owned a Sega Genesis, so this video is interesting. I played Sonic a long time ago when I was at a friends house in the late 1990s but he was better at it than I was.
ThIs was an episode I had almost forgotten, Taz-Mania was one of the first Mega Drive title i got on my own as with Chuck Rock when my brother was still in charge of this machine. Taz is good as I remeber it and I have completed it on various difficulties in a way which I would not cope with doing today, the cart faring in the underground is infuriated and often leads to loosing the whole game for me. I am thrilled to see castlevania here, it looks compelling. but I sort have already made up my mind that I should gather bread to be able to find the game on Saturn because of the way where you can look around and find "hidden content" maybe the mega drive copy might have some of that too but I feel more drawn to The Saturn release, in an magnetic way indeed. I like the Spider Man game but find it hard to navigate which way to and when to climb and when to run etc. Vectorman seems it would have fitted for Mega 32x and Jungle book looks a Little bit as a more cartoonish version of "The Mayan Adventure" as I now happen to have for the 32X (with a moving waterfall in the background) had a used copy of the Mega Drive edition Before when I was around 12 years old I bought it for mega drive used since Before with out the manual, and at the time the price landed at what would be around 5 Dollar U.S - when talking about your currency
I really enjoy your videos! Have you considered compiling DVDs with your videos for sale?
No. My free time is pretty much exhausted doing what I do here.
I hear you. Thanks for responding back. I am sure with the momentum and quality of your content, this will have to happen in the future!
I've messaged you this on Facebook but I think you should do a Sega Genisis "2 player" platformer video.
That Spiderman game looks like a Master System game, I swear.
It's an early MD game. It was later ported to Master System by the way.
where did you get that hat
My favorite game on the system remains Alisia Dragoon. Have you ever tried that one?
wait a second! the music in that level of Bloodlines is different to my copy! what the heck?!
Strange indeed. Perhaps a rom hack of sorts There should be a different music.
And that goes for all three regional versions.
I hated those Taz games! Vectorman was great though! I know most people hate Bubsy but I loved that game too
Bubsy was raped. They made their money, and scaled it back For Bubsy 2. Bubsy lives on though, on modern platforms!!!
Where’s part three?
I really love your channel dude..
Can I get a sonic Spinball episode?
In europe we didnt get the paper boxes. Only sonic and knuckles was a paperbox
Quack shot was an awesome game! Still play it to this day at least once a year. One of my old time favorite was Robocop vs the Terminators. And I believe the Genesis version was much better than the SNES.
so, Chakan The Forever Man; was dark souls before dark souls... yes it has bad placements with enemies and platforms...but i loved the music and liked the though process behind the game and story but it is waaaaayyyy tooo hard!
I would love to know more about the development of this game and why it is so damn hard?
Early genesis development. (or) Maybe Chakan was the basis for dark souls?
Thanks guy..as well you give people infomation complete help people understand..its finally i know
All sega genesis megadrive game..😄
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was disappointed with "Chakan: The Forever Man" after playing it for the very first time.
The stage design just ruins it. It has no flow at all. You feel like every jump and advancement is met with resistance of every kind. It's a shame too, because with a slightly improved musical score and faster, better designed levels, it could have been awesome.
Awesome video! gotta try Mcdonald's game!
Please do. It's a lot better than you'd think.
2 years in and take a look at vampire killer clocking in at 500 dollars plus.
No Mr Nutz, Smurfs, Spirou, markos magic football or James bond?
taz mania was amazing i love the sound very WB saturday morning cartoon esk
Im so glad I picked up a genesis mini. Bloodlines is too darn expensive.
Awesome video as always dude 👍 have you played the other McDonald’s game Global Gladiators? It’s actually not bad, used to love it back in the day. For another Disney platform we there’s also Talespin…but that’s utter trash hah. Splatterhouse 2 is awesome however 👍👍
maui mallard is entirely new to me, wow
I think I played it on snes back when I was a kid at my cousin's house. The game was kind of hard.
The McDonalds Land game is super nostalgic for me! One of the last games I ever rented as a kid.
I had rented both that game and Streets of Rage 2. Later I was allowed to choose one of the two games to get as a gift. I chose Streets of Rage 2.
I made the right choice. Nonetheless, McDonalds land is an awesome game!
I rented and beated streets of rage 2 so many times that buying the game was pointless. Sadly tho, I did the same with mortal kombat and got it for christmas anyway. I traded it for Evander Holyfield's real deal boxing. A great trade!!!
@@ricky-sanchez Buying the game was definitely not pointless!
Either way, you should check out Streets of Rage 4!
@@BabusGameRoom It was pointless to a 10 year old kid that knew streets of rage 3 was coming, and also found out about emulators a few years later. For what it's worth, owning the original genesis copy is great for collecting, but as a 10 year old kid that had no money, when my folks asked me what game I wanted to buy, I had to get something I knew had leverage. Also the game itself was more expensive than most genesis games in my area, running for 60-70 dollars. The local retailers were crooks. My folks never went for it. I've only rented or borrowed sor 1, 2, and 3 till this day. (Not counting my extensive emulator collection.) I do have sor 4 right now tho. Fresh on PS4.
@@ricky-sanchez Well, that's a very good point. All the collections nowadays are definitely great, too. Games can be cheap now, and it can be easy to forget that not that long ago, everything was so expensive! (Especially if you were a kid, lol)
@@BabusGameRoom Where I lived, streets of rage was bigger than sonic. If you walked in asking for streets of rage, they would always say " Have a few left, but they are selling fast." Then you glance at the price tag. Then shark salesman would talk you up, then you show your parents. Now you have sor 1, 2, and 3 rented every friday for almost 3 years. The Sor games are like mcdonalds to me. I know every musical note, every enemy name, every secret move, and every difficulty like last night. Streets of rage for life.
Excellent 5/5
Damn bro, u RIPPED into ForeverMan. Lol. Major venom
I know it has its fans, and I respect that, but it was an awful game IMO. I loathed its design.
@@SegaLordX "and why does a guy called the Forever Man die when falling into a hole". That bit made me laugh a lot.
Chakan is the old school demon souls.
you can add mr. Nutz to the list
Where's "Goofy's Highflying Adventure"? 😢
No "Blades of Vengeance", either? 😔
My mum brought me Quackshot, alongside Tiny Toons (how da heck did you forget that one?) and Robocop 3. I beat the shit out of the 3 games. Played them to death. I enjohed Quackshot a lot.
I think you should have Tin Head, New Zealand Story and Zool too. Oh, and ToeJam and Earl 2! And Pirates of Dark Waters! And High Seas of Havoc! And and... There's are a lot more...
Why don’t you try Ranger X
I've played Ranger X many times. I even reviewed it.
Two best games to ever come out on the Genesis.... X-men and X-men 2 Clone Wars.... The only carts I have left from my childhood collection of some 25 years ago now... ehh... so old. But as time went on, and things got sold at yard sales (mistakenly)... I never could let those two go. And as such, they remain in a box, ready for that day I may at one time own a Genesis once again. But emulation always qualms that itch the moment it arises, so I've never had the need to go ebay one over or find one at a local second hand shop. Simple fact is, all of those game from back then, especially on SEGA systems, were too damn hard, lol... for kids or adults, no one was going to make any progress in nearly any of them. No saves, rarely even a PW system, minimal lives, and the ability to die instantly.. covers 99% of the titles in the Sega (and most others of the era) libraries. So yeah, emulation usually scratches this itch with ease. I love the nostalgia, but I surely don't love the gameplay of yesteryear. At least Nintendo gave us some kid friendly titles, which were absolutely possible to overcome... such as their first party Mario and co. titles. But Sega, for better or worse, likely worse, had third parties all doing the same thing... making impossible games. Impossible games that were far too often the cheapest most lackluster versions of said games. With obviously more effort put into the SNES versions. I still love Sega far more than Nintendo, likely due entirely to childhood affiliation... but those games.... they were in NO WAY kid friendly, lol... only thing a kid was getting out of most of them, was them being naive enough to not realize how screwed they really were with just about their entire game collection.
Back in the 90s for me it seemed there was no middle ground. You either had Sega products of Nintendo. I.E. I would never get a NIN gameboy if I already had a master system or Genesis. I'd be obligated to get a Nomad or Game Gear.
Chakan on the gamegear wasn't as bad as the megadrive version, I actually found it playable honestly I'd love a rom hacker to fix the big boy version because if you fixed that shonky jump and just nerf the speed on the first enemies on screen to kill the insta-knockback of death I think it'd open it up and then it might be worth sinking some time into
Green Daaaawg has it's fans?!?
I´M HERE AGAIN..... Yes I have many of the games on the video......................Incluiding E-SWAT and I liket it very much (was one of my first 5 Genesis games back in the day. The early games on the Genesis life looks more arcade to me.
Chakan was a very hyped game, the result wasn´t good, guess what? I have the cartridge ha ha ha.
I hate you...... I REALLY REALLY WANT MC DONALDS TREASURELAND!! Here in México is not as cheap.. I love all the Treasure games I played on every system.
Classic Castlevania is pure love so Bloodlines is 24k
Ok, I´m going to to tell you wich games I would like to see on the PART 3.
STRIDER - For me, this is the number one game on GENESIS ( Yes I played the arcade )
Mystic Defender - Simple good looking arcade game.
Ghouls N´Ghost - I was proud to obtain the real ending.
Asterix and the great Rescue - I like very much the characters and adventures.
Robocop VS Terminator - Fun, packing with good action.
I was a big fan of the Genesis Strider as well. It was awesome to have such a close arcade port at home back then.
Mick & Mack feels better.
Why Vectorman never saw a Japanese release is beyond me.
Japanese name: ベクターマン
Genesis does...what Nintendon't!
POINTS hold merit.
Taz mania scared the fuck out of me as a kid
mcdonalds treasureland adventure is really really pricey in pal territory. 150 dollars complete. I was lucky to get a cart for 20 dollars
Chuck rock "attack mecanics"🤔
I think you missed Rolo to the Rescue a lovely puzzle platformer with good depth. I also missed The Legend of Juju, a very competent arcade port.
I thought I was the only person in existence to hate Chakan. Greendog was a passable game at the time. Hated the sound and the game looked uninspiring in every possible way, but I enjoyed the beach backgrounds and the platforming is not that awful. The first time I played XMen 2 I felt I was playing in a next generation console back in the day. Quakshot is a true masterpiece.
You didn't mention that the selling point of chakan the forever man was that he had infinite lives. Just removing the limit on lives without a code or cheat was something special then. Too bad no one wants those lives.
Dude chuck rock is fucking awesome
I do not agree with the criticism about "spider-man vs the kingpin" classified only as an average game on the video. The game has very smart ideas in the battles against the bosses, the possibility of taking pictures and selling to the Daily Bugle newspaper to buy web fluid, the return to Peter's house for rest, many skills of the arachnid (the web swing is very fun ) and even has plot twists. It's a lot of fun and 100 times better than the bad game "Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge" that came out a year later on the snes and a thousand times better than the awful game "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" that was released 4 years later for the snes.
LOL you really dont like Chakan huh? I thought it was supposed to be one of the Genesis hidden gems?
I love Genesis
