Most interesting part is that the Supreme Court threw out affirmative action in education, but carved out a special exception saying that diversity was needed in the military academies and therefore it was necessary to keep it there. Kinda suspicious that they say racial diversity is important in one sector and not important elsewhere.

After that all factors are weighed race, gender, socio economic level, family structure(single parents), hardships, extracurriculars, references, essays, interviews, etc.. You have fallen for the con that people are accepted because of race & they are not qualified. If you really think the best based on "merit", which is the montra spouted, usually defined on scores / GPA is what happens, you're absolutely misguided. It's very subjective after the baseline criteria of being in the pool of acceptable candidates is met. When it comes to "what's required" to go to certain schools--it's not just grades and test scores. The reason why they care so much about race is because it's VITAL to have enough students of color on campus to accurately reflect the country. If you're going to get rid of affirmitive action, then maybe look at improving the quality of education in public schools, especially in those districts where the majority of students are from poorer communities, usually communities of colour. Because, until you improve the quality of education in those communities, the people living there won't have the same educational opportunities as those people who live in wealthier communities.

It's all well and good to limit university access based on merit earned at school. But when so many students can't even earn it because the schools they attended aren't up to snuff, then you either have to widen access to universities, or you bring all schools up to a standard that produces students with the merits to get into university.

What chances you had that you're parents could've gotten you tutors and additional help. I hope you realize how that'd be more harmful to minorities than to Caucasians and Asians. Here's two timestamps in the video that demonstrate that issue (3:16 and 4:28).
The first, sorta hints at it. If you don't look at race they can't get enough minorities to satisfy their desire for a critical mass at competitive schools.
The second really destroys itself in what it infers about black and Hispanic applicants. If you were only able to secure a spot into a school over a "mediocore white" applicant due to your skin alone what's that suggest about those students? They're implying there are barely any minority students that can surpass even the most mediocre of white applicants on a meritorious basis. The only thing your proposed act would do is keep Lori Loughin's kids out of Ivy league schools.

You really haven't a clue. I served on admissions for my med school as a student. Everyone meets a basic level to be in the acceptable applicant pool. AA allows the consideration of race as the country was founded & continues to perpetuate systemic racism & white privilege, which this decision protects.
I have served on admissions for my med school. I know how it works. I know other people that serve at the undergrad level. Asians admission levels are hurt cause they do poorly compared to many others on subjective factors, interpersonal skills, empathy, etc..I have seen many recommendations that are non descriptive that give no insight & just talk of grades, which will already know. Also, they often over manicure their extracurriculars. This also can often be obvious via many activities with no long term follow thru or leadership positions. Also, some of the essays & interviews are poor on why they want to attend, goals & what they will bring to the school beyond grades. Schools want a community of people, not those that sit in their rooms, just study & talk to just their ethnic group. This is something I have experienced as an undergrad/grad student in engineering & as a med student.
