Excellent video and that was one of the Ray Charles albums I had bad in the day. I'd play I'd play his America the Beautiful over and over that version moved me so much.
Hey Man, you do nice things while teaching the music. I don't remember a time when it's been more appropriate to be reminded of who we are, and where we came from. Oh, yeah... that 12/8 thing is called Swing, but you know that. Brother Ray felt the Swing so much that it moved his body. Thank you for sharing your vision.
Hey you know Herb Ellis has a nice album "Texas Swings" and he has the tune on there. Herb Remington plays a fine steel! Love his girl from ipanema and stardust.
Excellent video! Yes maybe the tape was sped up to make the song faster and more energetic or… maybe the piano was below the standard tuning and they played it in E instead of Eb, but please don’t tune your piano up to 455Hz if you don’t want your strings to break 😱
An excellent deep dive and I learned a few things along the way!
That was an amazing analysis of Ray Charles' performance, plus the emotion that the performance deserved! Thanks a lot for sharing.
Wish Brother Ray was still around to comfort us (U.S.) with his rendition during
AMERICAS DARKEST HOUR this evening.
Thank you for this. I first heard this rendition when he played it at the Olympics back in 1976. Have listened to it over and over ever since.
Great video Josh! This is powerful to learn more about the history and context of Ray’s performance.
This was GREAT! Ray's version can't be beat! Mark Levin ends his radio show with Ray's version, and it kills me every time. It's forever fresh!
Thanks Donya. I completely agree.

Thanks for sharing. It’s such an important song for me, and I imagine for many people.
Hi Josh, that was really interesting to learn about history and Ray's performance 😁🎹
Thanks!
