It doesn't sound bad. Exposing the abject ridiculousness of luxury makeup companies = consumer rights. Being a fan of a brand, tbh, sounds so awful and wrong to me, but showing the very real, very poor value of these products is nothing but right! Consumers before brands (needs a cuter version: shoppers before scammers, but better than that lol)!!!
The look on her face when she got that fourth perfume sample was amazing lol You could tell that she was feeling a myriad of emotions and one of them is this luxury brand is really trying to play in my face
It's like a relationship with a narcissist, the first 4 boxes were the love bombing that got your hopes up and then it went full gaslighting from there.
Edit: it even had some breadcrumbing along the way with some better boxes, just perfect!

You could go stalk perfume counters, and get half of this calendar for free! If you are a DIY person maybe you could attach the charms to bracelet or make a cute pair of earrings. The lipsticks are limiting if you don't wear reds. Overall huge fail but hilarious commentary. I love this girl!!❤😂
Working for Christian Louboutin was the worst! Would never support their brand. They treat employees like rubbish....

Uh so many things happened! They made me wear stiletto heels 38hrs + /week. First thing I was told by my manager was to be "scary and intimidating" towards the team. I was expected to lay out all the money and take a photo so they can count that I didn't steal any money haha 🤣 the team were very entitled and didn't want to listen to me about anything. They thought calling clients "babe" was acceptable. Customers were crazy as well... had a guy on drugs come in claiming he knew the owner and we needed to give him new shoes. The security guard we had on at the time was some tiny Indian girl who was scared so I had to call the police. Just madness...a whole different world there. Oh also no one is happy at work and complained about everything. It's a no from me and also the quality is actually pretty shit. We would have special orders for customers and they would arrive scuffed and they wanted us to sell this... so embarrassing! We would try to argue with head office that these custom shoes aren't sellable but they told us to figure it out. 🙄
Imagine being the poor boyfriend, who has spent a chunk of money.. I mean, as a gift, that is expensive... and seeing your girlfriend (or wife's) face of disappointment as she opens each box!!😢😢😢😢

I love Dior beauty and couldn’t imagine if I got the calendar, and they fucked with me this hard 😂😂 I truly don’t mind their minis, I actually enjoy them cuz they are so easy to fit in my small purse and the minis last me a good while… wish I could honestly just BUY the minis cuz again, so easy for on the go . But if it was the FREE SAMPLES that they give you 3 of each order I’d cry 😭😭

But besides that, if it's from a loved one, would you even be disappointed? I know, some people are so materialistic that they'd care more about the stuff than the fact that it was a gift from a loved one who thought you'd like it (and bought it for a stupid amount of money without making sure before, but whatever), but surely most people would find the value easily in the intention, no?

I don't care anything about luxury brands, personally. To be honest, I hope these calendars show people how ridiculous these brands are. It is all about name and status, nothing about quality anymore.
Yeah ive been shocked by how much I've loved the $20 Trader Joes 12 day calendar. I'm planning on buying a few full sized items, and they made products just for the advent calendar. I've loved that calendar more than any advent calendar I've seen someone open on RUclips 😂

This box is just SAD. We all know the “retailed value” is already extremely inflated; it literally cost them $5 to make the small Parfum bottles and they’re too greedy to include them (instead of vials)?! Guess these were intended for ppl who has money to burn. I feel second embarrassment for LB 🙄🙄🙄
One video I saw showed the regular price of the nail polish at around $40 they marked it up to over $216 in the calendar....my mouth dropped...I know these folks are in the boardrooms laughing their butts off at the fact that they are able to scam people...SMH!!!

In the 80s those mini bottles were free give aways when buying perfume. When the stores figured out how popular they were they started to sell them. I had shed loads of them in those little display wall shelves. I can believe they put these in a 600£ advert calendar. They only put cheap cheap crap and factory seconds in there
Shameful is an appropriate description. If they had put all the perfume samples in one day, I wouldn't be disappointed. But to piecemeal each one out the way they did and to do the same with the lipstick case, refill, and charms...smh. Shameful indeed.

the title of this video says it all - luxury brands DO think we're idiots, bc we're paying for plastic/ cheap crap just bc it has a name/ label. I cannot believe those stupid charms are $20 a piece & that people buy them for their lipsticks - as Lauren said, they couldn't have been more than $0.50 to make. The system has failed us when there's people who are willing to spend that kind of money on frivolous crap while other people are struggling to pay for food and shelter.
The system hasn't failed us, people are just a bunch of dopes. If you make it, they'll buy it, with the right advertising.
This was actually a fitting end to the Advent calendar series. As much as I have enjoyed you opening these advent calendars, it really drives home the how much a company will do to make a profit. When I was a kid I was really happy to open my advent calendar that had one piece of candy 🍬 😂. Now every brand has one and CL really missed the mark!
I'll take an Aldi chocolate calendar any day.
Those Godiva or Lindor Advent calendars have more value to me than any "beauty" calendar I've seen this year.

That was my reaction opening my Beautylish Lucky Bag last year and my bag at least had value. I hated it and sold most of what I received but at least I was able to get my money back from the sales.

If you do this again next year, you should consider the Ritual calendar. They always have a design that turns into a gorgeous holiday decoration, plus a really nice variety of their products. (I don't recall you mentioning them but their products seem up your alley.) It's not as expensive as this but it fills that similar decor use.
I bought the premium one this year and it is absolutely amazing. It has a little DIY vibe, I put it together with my sister and we abslutely loved it and also love the opening of each day.
It seems like these companies put so much effect into the calendar itself and then say, 'Yeah, just throw in any samples that fit the boxes. And put in anything else that didn't sell!'
I think I'd rather buy a pair of their shoes for $600 than this 😆 Great video!! LOVED advent calendar week!

That sucks that they took a 7 perfume sample set that they sell for $60 and split it among 7 days. That's less than $10 per day. Also, how many days were wasted on that one lipstick component? I would only buy a branded advent calendar if I knew they made a bunch of different products. The Sephora calendars suck but at least there's a chance at different products. Same with Elf and Ulta.

They should have put all of the samples vials in one day, all of the charms in one day & given the full size mascara, that way they could have put some other decent items in the days that the samples/charms took up
I am so disappointed. I don’t want little samples. I got one from a store from different brands and all it had was samples and what hurt me more was that my mom purchased them. She was told there was full size products, luxury products. In one little tube of foundation couldn’t even cover half my face. 😢

I didn't realise they had so many perfumes... the minis are cute, the vials on the other hand. I don't think they want to give you value like other calendars (SpaceNK, Cult Beauty etc.). I even saw a video on the Dior one that cost like 5400 dollars and she calculated that you pay over 2000 dollars more compared to buying the individual items.

My theory: Brand boxes suck more because they aren't trying to gain new customers.
The obvious ploy for the beauty store and the department store ones is marketing - the brand featured in there have received some kind of business proposal from the company putting the box together to participate, have received information on what kind of ROI / conversion they can expect from participating and how that likely increases by x percentage points for every dollar of value they contribute. It also explains the cheapo, dinky shit you got in the Sephora / Ipsy / Whatever boxes - they probably couldn't sell all the spots and so had to cover those days (and avoid too much loss on the box) themselves and that's why you got office party leftovers.
Conversely, as you've said, unless you are already a customer of these brands, the likelihood that you are gonna get one of these brand-specific calendars is EXTREMELY low, so they don't need to sell you on anything. Are they doing you dirty at that price point with that junk? 1000% yes, but the philosophy makes gross sense.
I'd stick with the beauty store / department store ones!
I'm starting to think it would be better to find/make an empty calendar and fill it yourself.
Sometimes the ONLY good thing about the calendars are the packaging!! Loved the lantern, definitely one you can use over and over, even for romantic centrepiece lighting for an anniversary dinner❤ and this will be a nice Christmas decoration.. but some are very disappointing (like who does the lipstick case and not the lipstick?...PLUS the refill in one of the other days!😢😮)

You bought a 600$ calendar which contains 600$ worth items, roughly. The issue is simply the ridiculous cost of this brand, not the calendar itself, in my opinion. Again, they sell those charms for 20$, people buy them, this is the problem.
After watching til the end its hilarious to go back and warch how excited you were in the beginning then how disappointed ypu end up being. Thanks for sharing your pain with us!

OMG, LAUREN!!! I was not prepared for this advent calendar! What a rip off!
As much as you’re hoping to get a good value for the items in an advent calendar, you’re also hoping to get some special things and not multiple days of sample items or cheap charms. Like maybe if that had only been a few days to pad things out, but wow. I hate to say it but I laughed so hard a few times as samplegate continued.
Well, now we know for next year. Go British and stick to something like Selfridges or Liberty. Loved the series, and thank you so much for taking us along on the ride!

This was completely pathetic!! What the heck? I feel like the charms would be more excusable if those 7 samples had been real mini perfumes, and they should have had a real full size mascara.
The only way I could see this as worth it is if you could trade in your favourite sample for a large size of the fragrance. It would be a nice tester library, but otherwise, this one was just gross.
