    Looks like you did your research well. First trip in the new trailer, you picked a campground close to home and got to try out the basics of camping. Kept it simple. That's the way to do it. Too many people head out right away on a two week trip hours from home without a clue as to what is really involved. Great video and advice for newbies.

      Thanks guys! Yes we definitely didn't want to over commit to a big trip. But I have lots of weekend trips coming up to keep it manageable while we learn how to camp.

    Wayne would have been that kind man for y'all! Love having a campfire! We were both waiting for you to back it in, Sara! 😆 But that's better than what April could do, lol. The second night's site is much better indeed. Sometime April will have to tell you our black tank debacle! 😳😎

    Great purchase, I'm sure it will let you explore a lot of beautiful places in Canada and the USA! One day I'd like to buy an RV, too, but a smaller one-right now a tent is sufficient.
    I camped in Darlington 3 times in the past 3 years. Considering that this park is relatively close to Toronto and other cities, it's quite nice, yet it would not be my first or even second choice. Each time we had campsites near the lake (157, 158, 159), which were very open and offered no privacy, just the view of the lake. The constant noise from Highway 401 was quite pronounced, but since it was so incessant, after a while I just stopped noticing it. Unfortunately nearby trains used whistles at various time of the day and night and even though I slept like a log most of the time, they did wake me up several times in the middle of the night.

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  2 года назад +1

      It was a great purchase, we are so pleased with it. Hopefully you can get your small camper one day. I think being in the trailer drowned out the train noises at night but we definitely heard them during the day and the 401. Not a very private or peaceful park! But still a good option for a quick weekend camping trip if you are in the area. Happy camping!

    Congrats on the RV! Love that its a smaller RV! At DarlingtonI did tent camping at the hilltop campground and the sound of the highway and train was beyond what I expected. Would not recommend tent camping.

      Thanks very much! I'm not exactly sure, but it would be about 5 feet I think. They say it can sleep 3, but the 3rd person would need to be a child or not tall.

  • @ashleybrown8617
    @ashleybrown8617 2 года назад

    Honest question, how do you deal with all the people around you while frontcountry camping? I strictly only backcountry camp, so “camping” to me is being alone in the middle of nowhere without amenities, and I know it would really frustrate me to be so close to people. Is it frustrating all to have to manoeuvre around so many people and have them CONSTANTLY around you? I find Ontario Parks is notorious for having sites extremely close together too.

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  2 года назад

      Honestly, I've never camped before, so everything is new to me this season. I only know frontcountry camping, and now after being a few times and also boondocking - I also prefer being further away from people. So we try to look for larger sites and check out the privacy/photos on the Ontario Parks FB groups. We have luckily had some much better and more private sites, and haven't had noisy neighbours yet luckily! Though definitely not the same as what I imagine backcountry camping to be!
