I bought one from WalMart a couple years ago so I could use it at a pop-up market. I then made 2 of my own and utilized them just as you said, to carry and then to display. They look great by themselves but I've also covered them with red pillow cases at Christmas for a more elegant look. They're not hard to make. I used a 1x12 for the ends and then ripped a 2x4 for the slats. Some glue and brad nails and you're done.
