Useful tips (no pun intended haha). I don’t often need to use a drill but when I do, I usually end up just grabbing one that is the right diameter and not necessarily think about what kind of point it’s got (unless it’s a masonry drill, I recognise that one haha)

I definitely need to do the bag tip! I’ve got some small paper bags that I made out of pretty book pages, but in reality they are too small and there is no room for my name. Need to look into getting better bags! Thank you!

Hi Rich, I really enjoyed seeing this process. I guessed from the size of the block you started with that it was going to be a bottle stopper, it looks great and that Yorkshire grit really shines it up nicely! Just one thing… if I hadn’t already seen other videos and guessed what you were making, I would have wondered what was going on. Might be nice to just have a one liner introduction before you turn on the lathe to say “I’m making a bottle stopper today and thought I’d share the process with you” or even “can you guess what I’m making today?” Or something like that so people feel more engaged with what is happening. (But maybe you already had a big mask on to protect your lungs and talking is difficult).

So far I’ve only done two craft markets. Both were in the same place (in my town centre). The first time I sold £70 worth of items, but the second time I only sold £5, so it definitely seems to be that “hit or miss” place! It was a cheap venue to book, so I feel like I need to use the cheap places to learn what people like before I take the plunge at a more expensive venue. I’m not sure if this is the right strategy but I don’t feel like I can afford the risk of doing an expensive show yet.

This is so amazing to watch! Can’t wait to see your current piece with resin too! The closest I’ve ever got to doing this is when I left a glass paperweight on a table and the sunlight tried to burn the wood, through the glass! Oh and when I was younger I did a bit of pyrography but that is more controlled (in theory!)

It's definitely not something you can get into thinking it's easy. You gotta know what people in your area, or the venue you're at, will buy. But how do you know what that is? See? Not so easy.

I bought one from WalMart a couple years ago so I could use it at a pop-up market. I then made 2 of my own and utilized them just as you said, to carry and then to display. They look great by themselves but I've also covered them with red pillow cases at Christmas for a more elegant look. They're not hard to make. I used a 1x12 for the ends and then ripped a 2x4 for the slats. Some glue and brad nails and you're done.

Such nice things! I'm sure your next craft show will be a huge success! I find the prep for a craft show to be exhausting - so I only do one a year, and it’s tomorrow! The rest of the year I maintain a booth in a local craft shop. The biggest seller in our shop is the vendor who makes charcuterie boards - they are so popular! All sizes, but the smaller more affordable ones move faster. While I love the big ones, I just don't have room to store one when it’s not being used.

I do woodworking. My first "craft show" was a local pop-up market. The booth cost $30 and I was selling Christmas stuff. I made about $300. Not too bad for my first time. It was fun and we met some nice people. We went back the next weekend and only made about $150. Still fun, but a little disappointing. I went back in the spring with some bird and squirrel feeders, along with some general wood crafts that I had. I sold one item for $25, so I actually lost $5, since the booth fee was $30. Afterwards, I thought about what went wrong and concluded that it was type of buyers. Being a simple pop-up market, I'm guessing that the typical shopper was an apartment dweller. No disrespect to apartment living, but if you're selling bird feeders, those people are not likely to buy from you. I share this as a lesson for others. You can't just go with whatever you've got. You have to consider your audience.

Hi! Your first live stream was fine. I’m sorry your booth didn’t do well. I’ve been watching your shorts and you are an arist. I have a few thoughts. First, if this craft show was really a car show, and you aren’t selling items specifically related to cars then you most likely will not have success. In the future, use the time to network with other vendors. See what shows they like to do. Second, don’t lower your prices. If you are charging a fair price, you don’t need to go cheaper. Do shows where the customers have money to spend. I will continue to watch. I wish you all the best.🌸

"Don't point out your flaws" is such great advice. I once took a musical theatre course and the instructor used to say "No disclaimers!" before we would get up to perform a scene or song. Why would you say "I have a slight cold, so I may be a little nasal today"- or similarly "There's just this little knot in the wood here, or a dropped stitch there."- so that now that's all a customer will notice? Thanks for this. I just stumbled onto your channel recently and it's great, common sense advice.

OMG - the second tip for sure is right! I've given up doing craft shows, but I found that simply making eye contact and saying "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" would bring potential buyers up closer to see what you're offering. Another good tip, if you can, work on a project while the show is going on. For example, I'm a crocheter. I would stand or sit in my booth and work on dishcloths. People liked to stop, watch and ask questions (usually "how long will it take you to finish that?").

Great tips. As with just about anything in life, worrying about what other people are doing is wasted effort. Tip #2 is a little harder to follow. Most people are their own worst critic. It's almost second nature to point out the negatives. You have to get past it. It can be hard to do, but your time is better spent on correcting yourself than doing tip #1.

@@lightstreetcreations there ain't much there yet. It's a rebranded channel, so to speak. I started it in 2008 doing covers on my guitar. I've been trying to figure out a style of videos that don't take a lot of time to record or edit. I want to be a woodworker who happens to make RUclips videos, not the other way around. I've been down the record/edit road before (with my cover videos). I don't care to go there again.

This may be good advice in the crafters business but my experience was a little different. About 30 years ago, I started home brewing (beer) because I found the science of fermentation interesting. Of course, one cannot sell the end results - the way you can with crafted items (requires permits and government regulations). When I started out, I would ask friends and family their opinions and feedback...with a grimace on their face - and the apparent urge to spit the vile liquid out - they would say, "Oh, it's good". or, "I really like it". Bad feedback - friends and family don't want to hurt your feelings ! I started entering my creations at local tasting competitions where the judges would give helpful critiques and tips on how to improve. After a few more tries - things started to get better and better. Soon, I started to win ribbons and awards for the brews by using the constructive feedback. I have not brewed in several years but found that there is always someone that can help with good advice.....sometimes though - not family !

I attend crafts events, or a shoppe, for activity/entertainment or maybe accompanying someone else. One thing I hate is being chatted at by vendors. I was a flea mkt vendor many years. These days I volunteer at a craft/gift store. Smile/welcome/acknowledge the customer. Small talk, follow them around and chatter - no. Know your audience;if someone needs helps you'll sense that or they ask YOU.

Based on the image tile for the video, I thought the tip was going to be to not do what the photo shows, which is an entrance hole to the birdhouse offset from the black center of the flower. Ha
