The first time I accelerated properly on that bike, I laughed, genuinely. That throttle is like a drug, once you twist it you have to go back for more and no other throttle feels as good.

I remember when I bought my 2007.5 Tuono. It was my first V-twin. When I took it to the mountains the first time and used compression braking, it felt like the front wheel was going to get sucked under the asphalt! Coming off a slew of Triumph Triples to that was a real eye opener!

Yea they're defiantly not a learner bike but after owning one I think the bike doesn't measure up to the hype. Yes torque, yes wheelies, yes grins all day and yes amazing sound (if you upgrade to the titanium Akra full system, stage 2 mapping, intake filter package along with the option outside Europe of dumping the Euro compliance bits)
    .
Look it’s a great bike but just be aware if you’re thinking about buying.
1: You’re going to pay the retail price for the bike.
2: Then you’re going to pay for the password to unlock the software that will allow the quick launch, quick shifter, to work as well as changes in power mode settings and a whole lot of other stuff I've forgotten about.
3: Then you’re going to pay for the stuff I've already covered above in brackets.
Now you have spent another 1/3 of the original retail price you payed when you brought the bike you finally have a machine that's comparative to the bike in this video.
The experience has me giggling like a schoolgirl under my helmet when I'm riding but that's the minimum, I would expect given all the above.

I payed 10k otd for mine brand spanking new, I didn't have to pay for any packages because I bought the 2016 and all above things I havent spent a dime one outside of regular maintenance.

After this damn covid-19 virus, is over or plateaus, non essential store's are closed. Can't wait till I see one in the show room, I may just purchased the 2020 1290 Super Duke R. I have a 2008 ZX-14 turbocharged, for touring. Do them aftermarket mirror work? Nice roads where are you? Cheers from 🇨🇦

That 2020 SDR is a hell of a bike! Didn't care much for the aftermarket mirrors, but they do look better and I guess you could make them work. I rather have the improved visibility of the stock ones.

Hey Cuban, what was your impression of that Kawasaki H2 SX that was around that day? What kind of feelings did the owner have about it, if you spoke with him, and how did it keep up with the pack? I am really wanting one, but you keep posting videos and I keep being distracted by the XR, as you are having so much fun with it. And it seems to do amazing in many different environments. Ventura BMW out in Cali has a triple black (beautiful, I agree) and a couple of the Red/White/Blue that appeal to me. I may have to trade in a couple other bikes to get one, but it seems I couldn't go wrong. ...until I hear that Supercharger flutter on the H2/SX-SE.

Entrapman Snob you feel the vibes in the engine but not the bars. I did a 10 hour day on the bike after this was filmed. But it’s also a preference, the XR puts my hands to sleep with the tingle. I don’t experience that on the Duke or my Multistrada. Part of it is finding the sweet spot the Motor likes to run. These like 4000rpm+.

Looks like you had fun mate! The 2019 SDR I recently rode was much more refined than the older SDR but is a proper licence-loser. I also question the point of so much power on the road and even on the track, where only a minority of riders will be able to exploit all it offers! I mean half the bike’s electronics are to restrict its power right?! I’m picking up a 950 hypermotard sp in 2 weeks, I’d definitely recommend giving one a go if you get the chance, it’s hands down the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden, especially if you like supermotos 👍🏍😁 safe riding bud

@@CubanRider You're a far more advanced rider, so take this with a grain of salt:
I've ridden both and felt the XR was 'tippy' but more refined. The XR (in dynamic mode) accelerates like a mofo. The GT feels more mechanical and urgent. The clutch is stiffer, with a smaller friction zone so it always feels like you're restraining its power.
The GT throttle doesn't feel like it's ride-by-wire and the gear box has some clunk going on. Mine is still being broken, hasn't been pushed too hard, and the quickshifter is disabled.
The XR is much smoother and its power sneaks up on you faster. I was riding one at 38 mph and it hit 78 when the throttle was barely twitched. It took my balls/stomach a second to catch up, LOL!
Compared to my old R9T: The GT is all around better. It's more comfortable, maneuverable, and faster. It's also bigger so a 6'2" 190lb guy doesn't look like he's on a moped. The R9T was a little better at slow speeds (e.g. 30 mph) and uphill slow-ish with a passenger. By 'better" I just mean it didn't take any work to restrain it at slower speeds. The GT wants to go fast in all scenarios.
Finding neutral on the GT can be a chore and that's not an issue with an XR.
I hope you get a chance to ride a GT. Considering how much you love the XR it's hard to believe you'd find the GT better. Different, but not better.

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  5 лет назад +1

Thanks for the feedback man. I looked at the GT but at $20k+ (for the refreshed 2019s) it was too much. I'm not too fond of the looks either, and even though the XR is no beauty queen, to me it looks better. I don't think you can go wrong with either bike, but I enjoy the linear power of the inline 4s a little better, but could easily adjust to the extra torque of the big V twin.
