Love seeing these people, with their passion for the past, getting the attention they deserve. The pay is low, there's little chance of fame outside their circle, but they get to spend a lifetime doing what they love.
In one episode, Phil had his ancestry checked and He is 100% British born and bred going back 4000 years on mothers and fathers side. Not many can say that.
This episode is so beautiful. A subtle display of parallels in time. Capturing the power the sea can have over the complex yet fragile nature of humans. Your team was amazing! Blessings to all,❤️from🇺🇸
Million times better than later episodes: it has beautiful, natural, honest flow, with real comunication and reactions, it draws you in, and you feel like you'r there among them. Also, without constant dumbing down and underestimation of the viewer. But off course, I still watch all of them 😀💜♾️
Nice to have youtube and no - geoblocking -. 21 years ago and the team, with the exception of Professor Aston, is still around. sure, also new people but still a great series.
That gun they t fired was a very early breech loading gun. Later guns were cast while and were muzzle loading. The metal technology of the time had them made of bronze and banded to keep them from exploding. Again the later cast guns didn’t need the banding and the chamber could withstand the force of the explosions which the early breed loaders couldn’t
I've seen other videos where Phil looked like an old pro at diving. It's funny to here that this was some of his very first diving. I can imagine Phil going on a dive cruise f vacation(holiday).
The lack of guns says that either the locals found out about the wreck and picked up most of them, or it was a merchant ship. Warship had more guns than five or six. And they were usually of one type and caliber, these were different.
I'd love to think that the back story of this episode is that they wanted an excuse to hang at the beach for a week and needed to still shoot an episode lol
Did I miss something? They conducted a survey of the bottom that was not capable of detecting waterlogged timbers, hoping to detect wooden timbers that had been underwater for 600 years. Im sure there is something Im not understanding. Somebody enlighten me.
@@justmebeingme398 They were using acoustic search gear and waterlogged wood and sand look the same. Metal objects and other hard surfaces would have shown up.
@@grumpylimey4539 I was about to say this one occurred probably 25 (or close to that) years ago, but you beat me to it! It was in the 90's. Tony has hair and it's still dark in the 90's. Then suddenly gets shorter and lighter in the 2000s. And also Phil is much skinnier back then (hell he is 70 now so can't blame him there!) Edit: It aired January 28, 1996. I was weirder out by, of all things, a no-smoking sign aboard the survey ship. I forgot how ubiquitous smoking used to be. I very much doubt smoking is allowed anywhere aboard, these days.
My parents said the most realistic thing about the first season of stranger things is how much everyone was smoking lmao. I was too young to remember that Era. By the time I have memories places were starting to ban indoor smoking. Definitely for the best
These guys (that’s on the boat) are fishes. It’s like they didn’t want Time Team their. It’s just a filling that I got. It started with the xray of the ocean floor. Those guys weren’t making any since. Even though they found a boat I wonder if it’s the boat they were looking for.

Tony's Day One getup is the most 90's outfit I've ever seen.

Okay
As i was born in the 60s I would have to disagree. I have seen much more 90s getups.

What a joy to watch this episode. This is from 3 decades ago when I tried to watch every episode possible, but this one I never saw
This must be the first episode of Brine Team. Still favourite program after years.

Loving the work you do... and having great people to do it with... that’s the dream.
This is another fascinating episode of the incomparable Time Team.
For me, Phil makes this show his accent reminds me of home in Norfolk. Could re-watch these over and over again.

@Clayton Shearer My grandma had our's checked on her side, my dads , but it only went back to the 900's AD.
I like Phil too
BRING BACK TIME TEAM PLEASE!!!
It's back. Sort of. Some of the old staff and some new faces. Just search for Time Team 2022
I love that professor aston was wearing a t shirt with sitting bull. Bless his memory.
@Thoth Al Khem purpose was the same tho
@Thoth Al Khem after reading that I will definitely say "bless" even more
So basically they poured blood on an altar for you to protect or help you.
watching tony comfort phil warmed my ❤ ❤
This show is pure class
Good work by the camera crew being able to film everything under water without being in the way!

Sad to see four members of the team in this episode have passed away :(
Apart from Mick and Victor, who else?
@@mariancroome1478 Berick Morley and Robin Bush
That's SO sad. I truly like them and the easy humour they all shared..
The intro is like the Fast Show of the 90's with very eclectic folk doing their particular stuff. Great show btw.

Tony is the goat!😎👍
Helluva blast such impressive weaponry.
Tony is like Whiskey, better the older he gets 😉 He was cool in the 90s but he's more handsome now day's.
Goddamn I love this show. I was about 9 years old when this episode came out. Takes me back.
How nice. A boat with the name of one of the Dutch islands.
An island known to be surrounded by shipwrecks.
07:30 ish. It is nice to see these two, but also sad.
Baric is so wonderful. ❤
They should have had Phil on his dive break out his trowel and start scratching on sea bottom with Narrator saying Old habits are hard to break.
Phil had sick sideburns back then.
And red to boot. I just like him.. 💗
I'm from Tennessee, and as Southerners we always say "I reckon"!
Good one!
Tony wearing an early version of the sorting hat. 😂
Gonna say it, ID LOVED to have been with this group while the firing of the cannon..to have both Robin and Mick there would be Awesome-tacular..✌️🥃🥰
Shiver me timbers! 🎉
Watching them discharge the cannon was hysterical. 😅
whoo hoo first comment yay. Under water archaeology is the best. I can just see Dr Harding with an eye patch and a cutlass lol.

So, it's NOT a wreck of the Spanish Armada, its just a Venetian trading vessel. So why the misleading title?
"Sand suckers" the technical term for dredges. :D

Is it likely any capable sea captain would bring a vessel into a dangerous inlet, in a severe storm ⛈ at night?

do the Spanish just call it "The Armada"?
Do the English call it, the Channel?
