Considering the background lore with ancient humanity fighting the flood and then being devolved back, that explains why humans instinctively made stories about zombies.
You know what I would do if I was ONI trying to cover up alien zombies? I would create a movie or game that features them. That was when it inevitably gets leaked in like 25 years, people will just say “that guy is crazy, they’re literally just taking about the zombies from [movie/game]” and no one would take them seriously
@@MyAramil exactly! You just have them grow up playing as super cool super humans, then you slowly introduce them into maybe some kind of zombie infection mode. If the space zombies actually ever become a threat, they’ll already know how they work
After nearly three decades of war with a literal crusade full of aliens, I think I'd believe in the possibility of a crab jellyfish the size of a toddler jumping into my chest to add more troops to their side, yeah. Them being the remnants of elder gods? Eh, maybe not. But the Flood as it is? 100%.
Compare the idea of a parasite like that, to finger-faced shark monsters that are refined warriors, giant monkeys that reach 10 feet tall and are nearly bulletproof, flying gas bags that are living supercomputers that float around repairing anything from either faction, and let's not forget: a hive mind of worms that form colonies that can either inhabit suits of armor or pilot vehicles, including the Scarab and Harvester.

@@randomj_904 It's been explained many times that the powder was researched extensively and produced desirable traits in the dogs they fed it to. He does regret a lot of what he did and even asks Piccolo about whether he would see Goku again prior to his sacrifice. His entire arc was overcoming the trauma of having everyone he knew killed and being forced to commit heinous acts for an evil dictator. In TFS's version, he's just a jackass because.
Elite: "Ah I remember when I fought the flood on your planet, it was intense, but we managed to save your species" Concerned Marine: "The flood?... From the bible?" Elite: "Bible?"
Honestly, considering how we've been in a war with space monkeys, lizards, birds, and bugs for 30+ years, I'd be a bit skeptical but wouldn't completely dismiss the idea of the flood.
@@extremosaurEither one works. The Brutes are commonly referred to as a mix of both. Additionally, primarily bipedal gaits, opposable thumbs, and hairy bodies with bald faces are primarily traits of primates moreso than bears, despite their strength and size being more ursine.
Now realizing that ‘Rtas likely glassed millions of people, civies and UNSC personnel alike, far way from Voi but close enough to be in range of being overrun by the flood is…chilling to say the least.
They probably evacuated as many people as possible while the Brutes locked down Mombasa and Voi, before the Flood even showed up. Plus lets be honest, being incinerated by a space laser sounds like a better way to go than being painfully converted into an undead abomination by a monument to all our sins. Just ask Private Wallace Jenkins.
@@MyAramilbtw irl that doesn't work because blood moves faster than you could theoretically cut off your arm. You would have to literally strike your own arm as you see the zombie inevitably about to bite it, and there's a chance your infected blood would have managed to make it in the split-second even if it is a clean cut. Worse yet if it is a curse and not pathological because you are doomed from the first small laceration done by the teeth no matter what.
Well, Thel is personally responsible for over 1,000,000,000 (one billion) human deaths, so R'tas isn't that bad. Especially since his reasons for this are completely correct.
I was just having a conversation with someone about how in Halo 2 Miranda had Cortana pull up everything on Installation 04, but Stacker and his men weren't informed of the threat before being deployed to the Quarantine Zone. So it's good to see someone talk about the Flood being covered up.
@@Quintonias It would make sense for her to, though it's weird that nothing was relayed to the troops one way or another. Additionally whatever Miranda said was a question, since the response was "Negative Ma'am, not Covenant"
Well if I'm correct unless Chipps Dubbo and Marcus Stacker,Thomas Chang are ever made official survivors of the Battle of Installation 04 that would only leave those 2 plus Johnson and John 117 as 5 survivors of the Alpha Halo outbreak even with the crew of the In Amber Clad got debriefed that still wouldn't stop the flood from infecting anyone. Gravemind is to smart.
Technically yes and technically no. In a main-line Chief game? Yes. In spin-offs and lore? No. That Ate the Son story whatever it was called and then Halo Wars 2 Awakening the Nightmare.
Bringing them back over and over would make them way less impactful and moreso monster-of-the-week villains, just like when they kept bringing back the Covenant. They'd need a serious revamp to work again or it'd just feel like doing the same enemies over again. While the Banished are distinct from the Covenant thanks to their difference in technology and beliefs and behaviors, you can't so easily change up a millenia-old, primordial faction that has been around since the dawn of time
I think if they did broadcast that memorial speech galaxy-wide, i think “the flood” could easily be dismissed by those not in the know as an actual literal flood. Instead of freaky space zombies, one chamber had just been filled with water, door gets unsealed, captain keyes and his men are all tragically killed as countless millennia of water leakage come surging forth, flooding the base, with only sergeant johnson surviving
I remember going to Halo Outpost Discovery and even though I could only go for 3-4 hours on a Sunday, it was absolutely AWESOME. I’d definitely want to go back for all 2-3 days (depending on my schedule) if it ever came back locally.
Tbh when you look at it from a pragmatic view, the only way to guarantee no flood survived was the go with the glassing plan. Yes it was a terrible thing to do, but trying to fight the flood in a conventional way would have guaranteed planet-wide flood infection and would be the more terrible thing to do. And from ONIs pov, covering it up was most likely the best way to handle the situation at the time, in their shoes. If the whole planet would’ve known the flood was present on earth (assuming they know what the flood are capable of and iinm, they didn’t at the time), mass panic would be a very strong understatement for what would happen. Yeah it’s not the best or most morally sound plan, but it’s something I understand that had to happen
After seeing how ppl reacted to real pandemics, I can already see ppl in the halo universe breaking quarantine because they dont trust the government XD Which could be a perfect flood game premise, a group of reporters or ppl skeptical of the ONI cover up visit the glassed remains of voi and africa and end up past some sort of quarantine and discover flood hiding out there in small pockets, which would give a narrative reason as to why you wouldnt have a weapon to fight back, and throughout the game you progress through trying to uncover the ONI conspiracy
I'm pretty sure it's the most moral plan possible. It's called ending an outbreak before it destroys the whole planet. Pretty clear cut choice on what to do.
Because if you notice and try to count the number of infected and dead marines you find within the delta halo quarantine zone you can clearly see that basically every marine available was sent to the library. And even more were sent after the covenant began landing larger detachments of troops.
I feel like there's a lot of poor plotting and inconsistencies. For example, there's a forced body of hate for Dr. Catherine Halsey, almost like Traviss is trying to force us to hate her because the modern author cannot comprehend grey morality, and instead she just paints Halsey as dark. Halsey deserves a redemption arch. Maybe a redemption Ark.
@@extremosaur I'm not sure I agree, you have to remember the context of the story. this is the first time normal (as normal as Kilo-5 is) service members learn of the origins of the spartan program. it would be very likely to go against the morals of any sane person. especially when you consider the fact (that they bring up) that the spartans were created to contend with Insurrectionists... yeah it is on the nastier side of that moral grey. compounding that with BB's distaste for her with the reveal that his donor's brain was one of the conflicted members of the Spartan II program, I think it really ties it together nicely. it's not a perfect story by any means and can't even consider a lot of it canon but it's one of my favorite halo novels, mostly because it's not just "John fired his weapon. The enemy died. John continued to clear the room" like a play-by-play of actual spec-ops, shit made me sleepy.
@@Pandemanium_TV I appreciate your perspective. To me, I was always thankful that Humanity had a chance to survive. I think a majority of people put in Halo would feel the same way, having looked into the abyss. And the trilogy is compelling outside of combat I agree, but I always enjoyed the mystery and subtext of the Nylund and Dietz books, because you're right, they are play by plays, however there's always more teased on the periphery.
@@extremosaur yeah, and for the game-recap novels I can understand that style of writing, not sure how else you translate an FPS level to novel writing anyway. they did the best they could, I enjoyed them. using them as source for the tv adaptation would have been genius but alas

People would either say that it's AI generated or just really good CGI, either way if authentic it would be shaky and grainy due to movement so there's more room to hide potential clues of it being fake.
The easiest way for oni to ensure none of the very, very few marines who survived alpha halo, delta halo or Voi got drunk and gossiped about what they'd seen would be to reduce very, very few to zero. Probably get them selected for the ark expedition as a suicide mission, and whoever actually survived that and caught a ride back with the elites would either be recruited into ONI security somewhere an eye could be kept on them, or have an accident.
In the ODST mission: "ONI ALPHA SITE", Micky will Ask Dutch if he's checking to see of Micky has a Flood infection after you stare it him for a long time.
If I’m not mistaken, he shares that line, among others, with a generic halo 3 marine that shares his VA. Still begs how that specific marine knows, but, figured I’d say.
I don't think Alpha Nine was briefed about the Flood until after H3 ODST given they carry out Operation JOINT MONITOR in the Voi Exclusion Zone assessing it for any remaining flood infection after the Battle of Voi.
I caught that too, and I thought maybe he was including all Covenant as *shudders like the Gravemind" "people". The drones alone number over 1 trillion on their home planet, everyone else is low billions.
*Streamers and recorders go to the Flood Outbreak* Flood Streamer Forms: Ok guys me and my homies are here and today were gonna spook this here ol town and maybe the world.
I can very much see there being a law/protocol in the inner colonies that forbids/suspends civilian net usage in regions described as active combat zones. All in the name of saving bandwidth for the military personnel in the area, but in reality another effort to contain the information that humanity was losing. The whole Spartans go MIA thing is what really makes that believable to me, as well as all the built in contingencies to wipe navigational history on all space vessels.
Once he said "Where nobody is the good guy" it really reminded me of Dune - more reason why Denis Villeneuve would be THE best famous director to work on Halo if he wanted to 🙌 (Dune part 1 and 2 reminded me of Halo every 5 minutes from the brutalist architecture & old-fashioned tech to the shields being like energy shields to the general story and themes)
Encrypted footage, and while it may be uploaded, it would definitely only be uploaded to closed circuits, archived footage. You don't want soldiers stumbling across confidential materials and broadcasting them for the world, even if it weren't the Flood. And you don't want potential threats to have records of what your soldiers know and where they've been. So it makes sense that footage wouldn't get out.
I wonder how the protocols are when just one human is bringing the infection to earth or even equiptment that is covered in flood spores. I mean the Forward Unto Dawn crashed into the ocean on earth with the Arbiter, the Forward Unto Dawn was docked near the ring's Control Room under flood infestation. Maybe some spores or flood parts, even active flood got into the ship and crashed with the arbiter into the ocean and is burried deep down? Or what if the(a) gravemind is able to corrupt a human without infecting(by logicplague) it to smuggle in flood spores into earth and infect the entire population? that is scary af ngl.
I'm gonna be honest the whole "monument to all your sins" thing. I always found it a bit interesting the way it was presented. Personally, I always thought that was the gravemind's name. He introduced himself. "I? I am A Monument to All Your Sins". And then when Cortana is being corrupted by the gravemind, she states her identity and then repeats that, like her identity is being overrun by the Gravemind, and she's addressing it by name. That's probably not canon but interesting to consider.
Im pretty sure the original gravemind scene was just "i am a monument to all your sins" and the anniversary edition added that first "I?". I always took his first line as something more poetic then straight forward.
@@HishUnderscore Nope. The original lines were "What...is that?" "I? I am A Monument to All Your Sins." Then the arbiter gets hauled in. I can go and check on the OG if you like, but I'm pretty sure my memory is original game and not anniversary.
I don't think that's canon at all, but it is a very interesting point. Basically, the Forerunners were always Human under Bungie. The Gravemind surviving the Halo Array makes it a bit eternal, like a monument, and it is the sins of the Forerunners which lead to the original Flood outbreaks. Therefore, the Gravemind is a material representation of the sins of the Forerunners, aka "a Father's sins passed to his son".

Quick question: is there any lore that confirms that half of Africa was actually glassed? I always assumed that Hood was speaking in hyperbole because he was pissed.
I was thinking the exact same thing! I was gonna post the same question you’re asking, but saw your comment first. As a side note, if I were the rtas or hood, I would’ve glassed it too
I interpreted it to be hyperbolic too. I assume that the glassing was just limited to large parts of Kenya, but not “half the continent”. I can understand why he’d be angry, considering the elites went from “sworn enemy” to “reluctant ally” to “glassing earth” in a matter of weeks. I think the best piece that supports him being hyperbolic is the ending for Halo 3 itself, which takes place near Voi (where the flood outbreak happened) shortly after the Arbiter makes it back to earth. As you can tell, east Africa is alive and well.
It's canon based on real world information and a few logical assumptions. 1) about 1/3 of Africa is unihabited desert 2) when ICBMs deploy MIRV warheads, they have approximately (classified, but reasonably at least) a 300 mile departure range. 3) The Flood infected ship was shedding Flood across its entire flight path. 4) you don't want to take half measures so we can assume 'Rtas glassed double, perhaps triple the maximum spread width of that ship's Flood Deployment Range. 5) that ship based on the cutscene and altitude probably flew at least 10 miles. So, Conservatively this means that about a 600 mile radius or 1,200 miles diameter(if we double the assumed ICBM departure distance) circle if Africa's habitable space was glassed. This is about 1.1 million square miles of Africa's 11 million square miles. If we assume that the desert was unglassed, and we count "a continent" as just Subsaharan Africa, and we also assume no ocean glassing, this amounts to about 1/6 of that area. But if we triple the area as a safezone, then that would be about one half of "a continent". So while it's not stated as literal fact, it is certainly at least plausibly literal.
Yeah it was hyperbole. The memorial at the end takes place on the other side of the portal across from Voi and we can clearly see from the trees and antennas around the portal edges that the entire region wasn't glassed. The Voi side is totally fucked though.
Sometimes I completely forget that throughout the events of Halo, Humanity and the Covenant innocents exist in the same exact timeline and we don't truly know every little thing that they've been exposed to regarding the war so having these types of videos to really go over things like this are really fascinating and overall just nice hope you make more of these in the future Xperia
I always found our obsession with naivite to be bizarre. Why is every institution trying to keep aliens a secret across fiction universes? Warhammer and Halo got it right, Halo with the Covenant at least.
13:57 That insurrectionist colony had lots of former USNC and former Covenant as well! I don't recall that it's specified that the Flood are common knowledge among the colonists, but I think your odds of discovering info leaks go up exponentially the more disgruntled UNSC and Covenant troops gather in one place to live.
It would also be counterproductive to containing the thing to keep it hidden; sooner or later knowledge of the problem needs to be spread to keep a lid on it.
I think halo does have good guys, at least relatively speaking, but primarily on an individual level, master chief, lord hood, the arbiter after he grew as a person, etc.
8:17 brings up a good point. In history there is a phenomena called cultural trauma where a culture fears or hates something because in the past something so terrible happened it spread fear or hate in the culture’s collective conscious for centuries afterward. An example of this is Russia where their main reason for colonizing East and treating the nomadic tribes in the area so badly was cultural trauma caused by the Mongol invasions. Perhaps all the zombie movies, books, and video games going back to humanity’s earliest days in the halo universe is cultural trauma that survived in our collective conscious going back to the first human empire that survived the forerunners attempts to erase it when they regressed the human species
John Doe is the male equivalent. John Smith is similar, but more an alias, which is to conceal an identity. John Doe and Jane Doe are placeholder names for unidentified people, especially dead bodies. As for getting hammered, this isn't really a dirty little secret about doing something embarrassing. Even when drunk, some things just don't easily escape inhibition, especially when the consequences are much more dire than some simple embarrassment. Not to mention the trauma behind it. It's not likely going to be so easy to get it out of those who genuinely know about it. First hand experience might lead to repression, while second hand knowledge simply came with the threat of ONI, and whatever rumors might surround that, as well as potential second hand experiences with people disappearing.
Flood spores and super cells are extremely susceptible to sudden, extreme changes in heat. Which is why fire and lasers are so effective against them. Even just being in close proximity to such intense heat kills them. At least, from what I understand. Even the Elites and Brutes comment on this or have fire based weaponry for that specific purpose.
I thought a spore meant an infection form in the case of the flood. In any case the bigger question is how High Charity made it to the Ark without infecting the entire Earth along the way.
@@Oznerock surely heat doesn't distrubute evenly, the more distant from the heat source, less hot it would be. Not hot enough to incinerate everything in the air, but hot enough for air convection to take place, lift the particles high into the air, mix it and spread them wide.
Johnson kinda did those marines on Delta Halo dirty. But I also don’t think he fully understood the threat of the flood to other marines who weren’t certified badasses like himself.
About bystanders recording flood evidence when the flood came to earth: With the scale of the covenant invasion, it's probable that global networks were shut down. All airwaves being reserved for emergency military use. So even if someone recorded the flood, they were glassed before they could share it lol. That leaves the few marines that saw the flood face to face. These marines probably weren't thinking of getting proof out on the field, probably more interested in staying alive. And afterwards being forced into NDA's haha
You're missing the easy answer to the big speech - just lowercase the Flood. They "held back the flood", obviously he meant the flood of covenant ships, right?
Whats funny is. (About half way through, so if its covered later through sorry) Whats funny is that the forerunners also tried to hide the existence of the flood, and look how that screwed them.
All this about ONI coverups really makes me want a game where you’re an ONI agent taking part in clandestine operations, steeped in fictionalized versions of conspiracy content similar to the modern day pop culture kind but about the UAG and UNSC, and ONI. A ‘Halo Black Ops’ if you will.
Bit iffy on mentioning zombies being a thing in the Bible, as reanimation (AKA, undead) is different to resurrection (AKA, new life). The closest would be in Matthew 27:51-53 and Ezekiel 37:1-14. Though, the one in Ezekiel is a vision and isn't happening in the physical world and is a metaphor for the resurrection of a nation that was once destroyed. That said, the bit in Matthew is a bit harder to say which it actually is, likely closer to reanimation as they aren't given a new body as what you mostly see in Revelations.
My thoughts on speech are that it takes place in the far future of the halo universe at least a century or two and that it’s called the living’s monument because it use of neural physic making it never decay i.e never die and it may be a stretch but I think the officer giving the speech is an elderly spartan ii
For the speech at 9:17, it could also be interpreted that if the speech was broadcast everywhere, the "flood" could also just be referring to the collective mass of the Covenant. A way to say something without saying it specifically.
A shiny metal ,a cushy position with a fat paycheck, and the implication that your situation could change drastically work wonders for making people stay quiet about something
Without the right context, the use of the term "Flood" would most likely be interpreted as a reference to the biblical Flood that would wipe out humanity. At the end of the day, "The Flood" is a very symbolic term. If the name and the reality of the Space Zombies aren't mentioned together, then the zombies would sound like a conspiracy theory at best. "The Flood" of hostile aliens that would exterminate Humans from existence and glass their planets would logically be the understanding.
A theory on the commander mentioning the flood at the memorial. I haven’t watched the actual video so I don’t know if this works, but maybe it was believed by ONI that his mention of “the flood” would be interpreted by many as him just referring to the Covenant as “the flood.”
I think if the speech you mentioned at 10:00 was widely believed, folks would have probably assumed it was a metaphor for the covenant threat or something like that.
This is interesting for like a year I’ve been wanting to write a fanfic of the ONI pov right after the containment and glassing on earth. I’ve been busy with life so I haven’t got much but this might inspire me to keep going
I honestly think that explains what the primordual told the ancient human scientist that caused them to unalive themselves. The flood aren't a corruption. They're just the precursors wrathful gods taking back what's theirs and wiping slate clean and getting rid of all the evil ass sinners ( humans, covenant ect ) kinda prometheus style ( the movie ). Probably not the case but I think that'd be an awesome direction to go.
The Precursors, as they exist within 343's lore are ambiguously good. There is room in the canon for them to essentially be galactic farmers. The Universe feeds on experience, and that requires suffering and change as well as pleasure and competition. The lore leaves room for the Precursors to use the Flood to periodically wipe out life as a "test" and maybe that's all it is, but it could also be, or only be, a mechanism for wiping the slate clean so the Precursors can replace all life with new life. There's also a case to be made that actively assaulting your creations with the Flood as a test or not is not such a morally good thing. But if it feeds the universe, then maybe the Precursors are just pawns in a bigger game and we just have the misfortune, or fortune, of being smaller pawns. "Arrogant creature, your death shall be instantaneous while we shall suffer the progress of infinitude." -Gravemind, Halo 2
14:30 There wasn't anybody left at that point. Remember, the flood outbreak on Earth took place roughly the evening after the events of ODST. By that time, the Covenant had exterminated pretty much everyone. Depending on which sources you look at, the battle for New Mombasa was more then a month. The civilians were all gone by that point, killed or fled. The military units were filtered by ONI through UNSC comm filters and controls.

Could you imagine a hunt the truth style series of a normal guy trying to find out what happened to say his family in Voi and somehow stumbling upon the flood (or at least evidence of its existence)
If I were a normal citizen, I think I would think Flood would be urban legend. It would seem like a conspiracy theory or movie in a real-world setting.
If they go through with the remake of Halo CE and onto one for Halo 2, it would be cool to see them highlight The Gravemind's abilities and maybe even set-up his biophysics connection to The Primordial. In OG Halo 2, we see the Gravemind teleport the Arbiter and the MC but we get few brief lines discussing this throughout the campaign like when Cortana can feel The Gravemind in the system on High Charity.
I wouldn’t buy into a conspiracy theory about the flood, but it would definitely turn into a popular creepypasta. Something heard by all, but not necessarily believed.
With the whole thing where people should be pulling out their phone equivalents to film the Flood, bear in mind that many things can disrupt communications equipment, giant beams of plasms glasing the surface of a planet included.

Just started playing 5 last night for the first time and even the Arbiter was like “ew it’s ONI” to Locke 😂
This is why I love Halo. There’s always more lore to learn about and most of it is really interesting
Honestly, considering how we've been in a war with space monkeys, lizards, birds, and bugs for 30+ years, I'd be a bit skeptical but wouldn't completely dismiss the idea of the flood.
Technically the Brutes are bears.
Its better to cut off the arm at the elbow if you get bitten on the hand rather than loose the whole body (in a zombie situation)
Imagine being a guy watching your family get consumed and then seeing, understanding, and thanking that glassing beam.
I was just having a conversation with someone about how in Halo 2 Miranda had Cortana pull up everything on Installation 04, but Stacker and his men weren't informed of the threat before being deployed to the Quarantine Zone. So it's good to see someone talk about the Flood being covered up.
But Cortana would absolutely have told her?
"Hey, Keyes, rq. We fought space zombies on the last ring. Be careful."
@@Quintonias It would make sense for her to, though it's weird that nothing was relayed to the troops one way or another. Additionally whatever Miranda said was a question, since the response was "Negative Ma'am, not Covenant"
It's plausible that they were briefed in full and their reaction belies their immediate non belief in their misfortune.
The Keyes family are great at getting ships full of marines killed by the flood
Well if I'm correct unless Chipps Dubbo and Marcus Stacker,Thomas Chang are ever made official survivors of the Battle of Installation 04 that would only leave those 2 plus Johnson and John 117 as 5 survivors of the Alpha Halo outbreak even with the crew of the In Amber Clad got debriefed that still wouldn't stop the flood from infecting anyone. Gravemind is to smart.
"daughter abducted at age 6 and replaced with a clone"
Oh so you mean inducted into the spartan program.
We got GTA 6 before the Flood's return to halo
After seeing how ppl reacted to real pandemics, I can already see ppl in the halo universe breaking quarantine because they dont trust the government XD
Which could be a perfect flood game premise, a group of reporters or ppl skeptical of the ONI cover up visit the glassed remains of voi and africa and end up past some sort of quarantine and discover flood hiding out there in small pockets, which would give a narrative reason as to why you wouldnt have a weapon to fight back, and throughout the game you progress through trying to uncover the ONI conspiracy
I'm pretty sure it's the most moral plan possible. It's called ending an outbreak before it destroys the whole planet. Pretty clear cut choice on what to do.
Keep your pedestrian opinions to yourself, please. Comparing sapient reality cancer to the fucking coof is a non sequitir.
@@halinaqi2194
Because if you notice and try to count the number of infected and dead marines you find within the delta halo quarantine zone you can clearly see that basically every marine available was sent to the library. And even more were sent after the covenant began landing larger detachments of troops.
13:30 it's wild because I'm finishing my re-listen of Mortal Dictata (3rd book of Kilo 5 Trilogy) right now. Such a good story.
@@Pandemanium_TV producers are the least creative people in the world. The fact that they didn't think of using the novels and you came up with it in casual conversation is a merit to you and a demerit to them.
Imagine seeing a IRL flood infection video leaked on some random discord server
ONI would stop that. Or the SCP foundation would.
People would either say that it's AI generated or just really good CGI, either way if authentic it would be shaky and grainy due to movement so there's more room to hide potential clues of it being fake.
@@fadelsukoco3092 Its actually getting easy to add that to videos.
Please do more videos like this, I love these "deep-dives" into the dark horror-style lore and my personal favorite is the Mona Lisa.
I see it's time for my weekly HiddenXperia Flood video.
While they say half a content, it is actually closer to a third of it if you look at all of the locations mentioned to have been glass.
While you are correct, permanent secrecy is never wise, you need them to take the Flood seriously when it returns.
Midnight Facility. It's where ONI takes anyone who knows more than they should. Like Ben Giraud.
Imagine *Danny Boyle* directing a Halo Movie Spin off about the outbreak in Voy. Follows a group of civilians and maybe some marines/ODSTs in there
10:30 there were roughly 40 billion humans in the galaxy before the covenant war, so the "trillions of people" here is a bit of an exaggeration haha
I caught that too, and I thought maybe he was including all Covenant as *shudders like the Gravemind" "people". The drones alone number over 1 trillion on their home planet, everyone else is low billions.
*Streamers and recorders go to the Flood Outbreak*
Flood Streamer Forms: Ok guys me and my homies are here and today were gonna spook this here ol town and maybe the world.
Once he said "Where nobody is the good guy" it really reminded me of Dune - more reason why Denis Villeneuve would be THE best famous director to work on Halo if he wanted to 🙌
(Dune part 1 and 2 reminded me of Halo every 5 minutes from the brutalist architecture & old-fashioned tech to the shields being like energy shields to the general story and themes)
Dont all marines have helmet cameras in halo so commanders can view it for after action reports
They do, but ONI could certainly preemptively seize such footage.
Perhaps that's why ONI originally tried to weaponize the Flood, not because they are bad people.
Sounds like a forerunner name too. Or close to it at least. "Monument to Lasting Sins" or something like that
Im pretty sure the original gravemind scene was just "i am a monument to all your sins" and the anniversary edition added that first "I?". I always took his first line as something more poetic then straight forward.
@@HishUnderscore Nope. The original lines were
"What...is that?"
"I? I am A Monument to All Your Sins."
Then the arbiter gets hauled in. I can go and check on the OG if you like, but I'm pretty sure my memory is original game and not anniversary.
@@Zyo117 I just looked up the OG cut scene there is no "I?"
Edit: L Cheetah on YT has the cutscene
I don't think that's canon at all, but it is a very interesting point. Basically, the Forerunners were always Human under Bungie. The Gravemind surviving the Halo Array makes it a bit eternal, like a monument, and it is the sins of the Forerunners which lead to the original Flood outbreaks. Therefore, the Gravemind is a material representation of the sins of the Forerunners, aka "a Father's sins passed to his son".

ONI covered up the flood so well that 343 doesnt even know about it
Quick question: is there any lore that confirms that half of Africa was actually glassed?
1) about 1/3 of Africa is unihabited desert
2) when ICBMs deploy MIRV warheads, they have approximately (classified, but reasonably at least) a 300 mile departure range.
Those numbers sound like massive overexaggerations. I could see a few hundred thousand sq mi being glassed, not 1.1 million. @@extremosaur
Yeah it was hyperbole. The memorial at the end takes place on the other side of the portal across from Voi and we can clearly see from the trees and antennas around the portal edges that the entire region wasn't glassed. The Voi side is totally fucked though.
14:30 if that happened today I think people wouldn’t be able to get the word out because they would get infected
Love how the Admiral gets on to the fleet master for glassing Africa when if he did nothing the Admiral would have had to glass it himself.
The next halo game should be about The Downfall of ONI
Yes
Should've been halo 5
14:53 Biomass that comes to you. Truly some of us are prey animals.
14:30 isnt that what happened in the forward on to dawn movie. The cadets where looking at covenant vs spartan, insurrectionist fight?
Shoutout to Rtas, an underappreicated saviour of humanity
If "one single spore can destroy a species", how the hell NONE spread through waterways and hot air convection from glassing beams?
Earth has plot armor. ^^
Extreme heat.
@@Oznerock surely heat doesn't distrubute evenly, the more distant from the heat source, less hot it would be. Not hot enough to incinerate everything in the air, but hot enough for air convection to take place, lift the particles high into the air, mix it and spread them wide.
I mean think of it this way, I certainly Would Not Believe someone if they ran up to me and said zombies were real right now.
You live in a world with rabies, government cover ups, and mind altering drugs. Why would you not at least consider what they told you as plausible?
(About half way through, so if its covered later through sorry)
Whats funny is that the forerunners also tried to hide the existence of the flood, and look how that screwed them.
I will always say if Johnson survived CE, noble six survived reach and is blacked out by Oni
Apparently Quiet Place Day One is halo cannon. Thanks for the clips
You are ALWAYS rockng it bro
As your theories kept growing, there’s no secret of how Halo has.
I think if the speech you mentioned at 10:00 was widely believed, folks would have probably assumed it was a metaphor for the covenant threat or something like that.
Right off the bat, ONI be like SCP Foundation after the Flood outbreak on Voi.
This is interesting for like a year I’ve been wanting to write a fanfic of the ONI pov right after the containment and glassing on earth. I’ve been busy with life so I haven’t got much but this might inspire me to keep going
Well when aliens just invaded your planet space zombies don’t sound that crazy.
The precursors are the only real "good guys" in halo.
I doubt the Precursors were incapable of doing morally bad things themselves.
@@andyfriederichsen Oh for sure, just nothing we really know of.
