In real life, Frank's father was the first scam victim.
After his mother moved out following the divorce, Frank stayed with his father, and around that time, committed his very first scam. Using his father's credit cards, he began charging thousands of dollars - but when the first bill arrived, his father caught on.
After a brief stint at a school for wayward boys, Frank moved out on his own at just 16 years old. And unlike in the movie, Frank never saw his father again. He's said that while he was in prison, his father was in a freak slip-and-fall accident and died after falling down the steps of a New York subway station.

The opening credits are very much a homage to opening credits from the 1960's. Pilots were viewed as glamorous as this was when most Americans never flew at all. Oh and the stewardess who shows him the jump seat is Meredith Gray from Greys Anatomy.

Back in the day after WWII to the 70s, Pan American Airlines (Pan Am) was the primo international airline in the world. They were really the only true global airline. Everybody knew they were the best airline out there. Its status was beyond anything that exists today in aviation. Its pilots and stewardesses were seen as the cream of the crop in the airline industry and set the standard for style, grace, professionalism and received incredible travel perks. This was the age when airline travel was expensive and only the upper classes could afford to fly internationally. So yes, meeting a Pan Am pilot or stewardess was like meeting a celebrity.

Pretty amazing to think how times change and how much we can take for granted global airlines and the possibility to fly anywhere just from almost any near place to take a flight, and the standards of that time is pretty much expected on similar level anywhere.
While I think in our day and age and going forward, the grandiose image certain professions had or could have is a lot more transparent and grounded to reality (job uniforms in public is less common as well as being defined by it), and it's more about raw unfiltered entertainment that gets recognized, it makes you wonder if when the day comes for space travel as a more commercial and consumer availability, like visiting a tourist colony on the moon, that the people working there may be viewed in some similar way for whomever commercialize it first.
Now likely not the same way, but afterall, astronauts are still considered highly today, even if perhaps not so easily recognizable out in the world as someone with an airline uniform. It'll atleast be a similar step from airline transport but transport into space, until that too may become a thing people take for granted. Who knows what the future brings!

The film ends with Abagnale working directly with the FBI, but this isn't exactly how things shook out. Parks, the inspiration for Brenda, claims their relationship in the film is not only heavily exaggerated, but blithely mischaracterized. In reality, Parks was a stewardess who met Abagnale while he was posing as a pilot. Though they struck up a friendship, it was quickly derailed when he discovered her work schedule (through deceptive means) and followed her all over the Eastern Seabord.
Parks didn't know what to do with him. She tried to tell him that she wasn't interested, but he was persistent.
After essentially stalking her through work, Abagnale showed up at her apartment in New Orleans where she told him that she was leaving to go visit her parents in Baton Rouge. He decided to tag along. After he met her parents, the duo parted ways and that seemed to be the end of it ... until Abagnale returned.
He ended up staying with the family for quite a while. Having successful wined and dined Parks' parents, they came to trust him - even though Parks herself didn't. While he was staying in her family home and sleeping in her old bedroom, she was very reasonably mortified. Her parents were cooking meals for him and introducing him to people in Baton Rouge. Although he took them out to dinners as a thank you, it was later revealed that he was doing this with checks he was stealing from them.
Abagnale allegrdly stole about $1,200 from the Parks family, and even more from local businesses in Baton Rouge.

Cruel and unusual? Depriving offenders of certain privileges and loss of good time are standard punishments for bad behavior. Individuals who commit serious violations of prison rules must have consequences and using short term isolation at worst boring, but not exactly torture. As for long term isolation, the effect on a persons psyche is unfortunate. But there are some people who are so violent that prison guard or other inmates aren't safe from them. @@AliceAndWonderland2 People can go into solitary for anything from fighting with an inmate to getting caught with a pack of cigarettes. We have an amendment that specifically promises not to inflict cruel or unusual punishment on criminals. Solitary confinement is torture, by definition. Based on this, the US is ignoring that amendment in favor of implementing solitary confinement on criminals. You don’t have to take my word for it: look it up. Long term solitary can produce a range of severe mental health symptoms. Personally, I don’t really care to debate whether solitary confinement is beneficial in the prison system in any way. The point of my comment was that isolation IS cruel and unusual punishment. That’s it. You’re just arguing that you think it’s necessary.

Understanding what people are looking for. He was excellent at knowing how to get the information he needed. Like posing as a school newspaper writer to get the airline info was genius. I remember really liking this film but I do remember it was quite long? I also didn't realise the airline Pan Am was showcased to this extent. One of my aunts was a Pan Am stewardess and I think it was a prestigious airline back then (I could be wrong). And yes, pilot's were more respected back then too. I had a relative who was one and it was met with a lot of "Oh, wows" at the dinner table. But that could just be my family lol. Pilots/ men in uniform also seemed a lot more suave and stylish. Think 'Top Gun.' So there was definitely an air of prestige. And can I just say...I know most people think of Titanic as Leo at his peak...but my goodness, Leo looks so handsome in this film. From what I've heard, this movie (and the book it's based off of) are gravely false. Many of the events didn't happen or they didn't happen the way they were portrayed.
You should check out "American Made" with Tom Cruise. It's another "based on true story" movie where many of the events in the movie probably didn't happen

Unsub, unknown subject, and the line where Walken says The Rest of Us are suckers is an old school New York term, you’ll hear it in Bronx Tale a criminal will often have the mindset that working hourly jobs and paying bills is them being suckers to the grand lie that they’ll get everything they want by playing by the rules so Walken is saying he knows and gives his approval.

Good movie, but in real life Frank was just a scum bag.
Nearly all of the film if fiction, loosely based on Abagnales life.

@@RandyReviews1990 NOTHING Frank says has ever been verified. It's all a lie. No record of him or any of his alias's ever taking the bar or being employed by the AG. There was never that night shift or any record of him at the hospital. He never worked for the FBI. Him getting paid by Google for his "story" was just yet another con. It's a good, fun MOVIE, but ZERO percent of it is true outside of his name actually being Frank.
