    My mom is Mexican, and I have grown up always cutting the ends and rubbing it against the cucumber like you showed. She taught us that. I don't recall ever eating a bitter cucumber that we prepared...eaten plenty of bitter ones at restaurants! I think it works! (:

    We used apply small cuts and then rub the end for a few seconds, this method makes a little foam on bigger side. Just slice it off and you will notice a significant reduction in bitterness.

    Over here in Malaysia,we used to just rub the top part of a cucumber only. By rubbing we can draw some of the liquid out of it .i think that’s the reason we rub it. Sometimes we even rub it with a little salt to get a better result, that’s to do away its bitterness.

    Yes that technique works and works well if you use it before you peel it so that you can grip it better and when you rub it with a lot of speed in a circular fashion it will ooze out some milky looking liquid. Now wash and peel it and enjoy.

    • @rajiv9819
      @rajiv9819 5 лет назад +2

      Now to prove that this technique work use 1 cucumber from a set without applying this technique, if it tastes bitter try other cucumber from the same set by applying this technique. Certainly you will feel the difference.

    Hi CG In case of Determinate (Bush type tomatoes) does a sucker/side shoot (eminating from the main stem) after some growth itself grow side shoot and so on (just like indeterminate)? If so this would be an unending cycle till the plant dies of because of some disease or heat or frost. I understand that the terminal end ends in flower bud in the main stem as well as suckers thus restricting further top growth. Please share your understanding. Thanks in advance.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening 5 лет назад

      Determinate varieties produce all shoots at once and then produce tomatoes. And thats the end. Sometimes you can prune heavy and force the plant to produce more side shoots
