I wonder if the selflessness that Robin Williams exhibited, while battling his own demons of addiction and depression, would qualify him for sainthood in the Episcopal Church. His life is an example of the Christian virtue of sharing joy in the face of burdens and woe. By elevating a person who struggled so hard with mental illness, we would be affirming that God calls us and makes us worthy, rather than God calling the worthy. Williams was involved in numerous charities and organizations that served others. He gave of himself unselfishly to the world. And in the end, he lost his battle with depression, but he endured for so long. These are qualities that can be an example for the Christian life. I would like there to be a movement to qualify Robin Williams as a saint of the Episcopal Church.
I think we need to overhaul the Church of England so that we celebrate real history, British heritage, science, philosophy, our tribe and nation, ... add some comedy, song and dance ... just like how Jews celebrate their people and nation through their synagogues and community networks. Robin may have actually attended occasionally if we had such a nationalist church. It also probably would have cured his depression and saved his life - connecting to and serving his currently non-existent (from an organizational point of view) ethnic nationalist community. Of course, Robin would be posthumously made a saint in our reformed church! Long live Great Britain and Greater Britain! God save our Queen! Amen. lol
Perhaps you were not made aware that Robin Williams did not have depression. Robin Williams had Lewy Body Disorder which is a brain disease, a form of dementia characterized by certain changes in the brain. It is wrong to characterize anyone with mental health issues, issues w/addiction, or organic brain disease as "battling demons." That term is stigmatizing and I hope you will reconsider your use of the term. Well, the Episcopalians don't canonize saints. The Roman Catholic Church does. The Episcopal Church does honor holy men & women of all cultures/traditions and publishes a book about them which is updated every so often. It's not really a declaration of sainthood but more of an appreciation and comemmoration of their lives. Modern individuals include Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights martyrs, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day. Williams was a truly great entertainer and a quite decent & loving human being, but his contribution belongs in a different book.
I’ve adopted this as my description of the Episcopal Church with a little modification. “The Episcopal Church: Catholic-lite! Same great Catholic taste, half the guilt!”
As someone who is converting to the Episcopal faith, I'm finding this so hilarious. Of course I was stunned when someone on Facebook told me this too because I always loved his humor.
No I don't find it hard. The idea did start with him but the church was more Influenced by Elizabeth I. Since then the church has evolved to the church that I love today.
This is true. The Anglican Communion was around for hundreds of years before King Henry VIII but he was the one that started the Church of England which was what the Episcopal Church came out of.
The Church of England, some might Anglican, was created by Henry VIII. Our version, the Episcopalian, was practically made in the Revolution, a fact I take immense pride in.
I've been using that, as a historian of Christianity (American Christianities) whenever I explain the Church of England (Episcopal) . I heard it from William's when I was a pre teen and it stuck.. I think it's sort of perfect lol
I have a short story. I was raised Catholic. Not Catholic Lite. Catholic heavy. I went to classes. Became an alter boy for ten years. I never had a problem. It was fun be the person that really organized the Sunday Mass. But one day about ten years ago. I am 58, I was walking along a street in a new neighborhood and walked into an Episcopal church. It looked like fun. It was, so I went a few more times. Usually sitting in back. Eventually I met people, met the what??? Pastor? I looked forward to knowing that every Sunday at 10 am I would be there. I guess if it was Catholic Lite? Maybe. But for a few seasons, I went there. To me? Only the wording is different.
I'm an antitheist atheist, but if I had to pick one sect of one religion to follow, it would be Episcipallianism, the only one of them that I can shed a shadow of respect on, because they dont hate fun. RIP Robin. You were an awesome dude.
KyleBuschPackFan there are many sects of Christianity that don't hate fun. really it comes down to the individual church you go to and the pastor/priest leading it
Drugstore film is the best Because religion is a manmade invention based on pride and self righteousness that sends those that put their faith and trust in it to hell. Sincerely, a believer 😎
Shotyme 81 depressed people who commit suicide usually have high IQ's. People who accept religion without using any critical thinking are usually the dumb ones
A false dichotomy. Smart and dum, happy and sad, tall and short. Some people give up. But religion has always helped me. Been there in in good times and bad.
As an Episcopalian, I approve. RIP to this legend.
His false beliefs probably led him astray and to suicide. Your church is full of groomers and satanic people.
As a son of an Episcopal priest, I must give this my hearty vote of approval. Raise wine glass, cheers!
(raises glass of gin like a good Episcopalian) Hear hear!

Ellen Lincourt Well, canonization isn't really a thing in the Episcopal Church, but I appreciate your sentiment.
I think we need to overhaul the Church of England so that we celebrate real history, British heritage, science, philosophy, our tribe and nation, ... add some comedy, song and dance ... just like how Jews celebrate their people and nation through their synagogues and community networks. psx1337 I was Catholic and converted. Best decision of my life!
Cathy Covarrubias But don't you find it hard to believe in a Church founded by Henry VIII?
No I don't find it hard. The idea did start with him but the church was more Influenced by Elizabeth I. Since then the church has evolved to the church that I love today.

This is amazing. Rest in piece, brother.
RIP Robin Williams, you kicked ass!
I'm an Episcopalian, so I agree this is totally accurate lol.
Haha, Catholic lite! I like that term!
I've been using that, as a historian of Christianity (American Christianities) whenever I explain the Church of England (Episcopal) . I heard it from William's when I was a pre teen and it stuck.. I think it's sort of perfect lol
As a Catholic turned Episcopalian, same religion half the guilt is pretty accurate! 😉
MTheChequeGuy Been there. Lol.
Sorry to hear you fell from the truth.
I was about to write a similar thought, so should.
Just had my confirmation today into the Episcopal church.
I miss this guy. RIP Robin Williams.
omg i love being Episcopal
I have a short story.
I was raised Catholic. Not Catholic Lite.
Catholic heavy. I went to classes.
Became an alter boy for ten years. I never had a problem. It was fun be the person that really organized the Sunday Mass.
But one day about ten years ago. I am 58, I was walking along a street in a new neighborhood and walked into an Episcopal church. It looked like fun.

I looked forward to knowing that every Sunday at 10 am I would be there.
I guess if it was Catholic Lite?
Maybe.
But for a few seasons, I went there.
To me?
Only the wording is different.
The correct word is "Episcopal" if used as a noun and "Episcopalian" if used as a noun. I am Episcopal, therefore I am an Episcopalian.
Vince Michel
So, you're a bishop then?
Thanks bro
RIP brother Robin. You have left an enduring mark on this world.
RIP you beautiful person.
Episcopalian, Bro. XD

Carl Grimes's Eyepatch you mean one denomination of one religion.
Sects dont follow clergy no offense.
Blake Russell. I believe there are sects, but what you mean are different from denominations of christianity.
I still get your point.
Yeah. I'm a former Episcopal-turned-atheist, but I still respect my old church.
I guess he'll have the metaphor question answered for him now that he's in the presence of the Lord... :)
The lord will be blessed to have such a brilliant part of creation at his side. Oh, I can only imagine the jokes theyve had and all the laughter. ♡
What is this clip from? Source?
IT's from his standup CD Live 2002 or the show Live on Broadway
God loves you Robin Williams
R.I.P Robin, you brought joy and tears to us all and touched us with your humour and humanity......
Ar7wen
too bad he hung himself flogging the bishop
He will be missed!
RIP you amazing and beautiful soul...
robin come back to me senpai
whyd he do it?
I thought Robin was Jewish..did he convert sometime along the way?
No; he was raised Episcopalian.
Williams?
Ah, no.
Just sad
He called himself an atheist again and again, but they will have to
give him a big ass funeral in a cathedral and pretend that he was a saint
Uhhhh the video is about him being an Episcopalian.
It seems that him and Judas had much in common.
Pitiful, truly pitiful!! Yet another reason I hate religion 😞
Charles Martel, why? How does this further your hatred of religion? Sincerely, an atheist.

smart people don't kill their selves and go 2 the pits of hell 4 eternity
