Offers are subject to change. #birchliving This video is more than just a furniture restoration-it’s a journey of healing, growth, and connection. When I stumbled upon this vintage teak table at a thrift store for $4.99, I didn’t plan to restore it, let alone create a video about it. But sometimes, life presents unexpected opportunities. Armed with a budget-friendly orbital sander, eco-friendly finish remover, and a few hours of patience, I set out to transform this damaged piece into something meaningful. Teak is a durable hardwood often used in mid-century Scandinavian furniture. With its strong grain and timeless appeal, I knew this piece had potential. Along the way, I tackled stubborn stains, experimented with tools, and embraced imperfections that make each piece unique. This year has been a rollercoaster, filled with incredible milestones-like reaching 100,000 subscribers-and personal challenges. Many of you have shared your own stories with me, and they’ve been a source of encouragement. It’s through these connections that I realized restoration isn’t just about furniture-it’s about the therapeutic process of creating, healing, and sharing. As a gift to you, I’ve created a face grain walnut board from scraps in my shop. It will remain here as a symbol of your presence in my journey. But the real gift is an invitation: share your stories with me-about furniture, family, challenges, or anything close to your heart. I’ll feature them (anonymously, if you wish) in future videos to keep this community growing and connected. Thank you for your support over the past three years. This journey has taught me life lessons that extend beyond the shop-lessons about resilience, gratitude, and finding beauty in imperfections. Join me in restoring this table, reflecting on life, and celebrating the memories tied to the pieces we cherish. Furniture may not heal, but the process of restoration can. Thank you for watching! Barry
Your channel is a much needed calm space in these troubling times. You seem like a person with a beautiful heart. I wish you much happiness in the New Year!!!
My dad's entire house was in Danish, mid-century modern from the late 1960's to the early 1970's. They only oiled their furniture, and it alwasy had the perfect finish on the wood. He would have displayed that table in his house with pride. Very well done! Brilliant as always.
Same with my Nan’s. Unfortunately I can’t find the oil she used each year on her teak furniture here in Australia and the brand and the little shop is long gone.
Congratulations on achieving 100,000 subscribers! That's wonderful!! You made that forlorn little table sparkle!!! Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year!!!
I love listening to your voice. It enhances my enjoyment of your videos, and I learn something new every time about furniture restoration with each new instalment. Thank you! Maggie
Thank you Berry. And thank you for your kind words and letting us know that we are ok and even if we are not ok. And just take it one day at a time. Hugs
Well Barry, 100,000 subscribers! that’s fan-tas-tiiiiic! I’ll bet you never, in your wildest dreams, thought you’d reach this landmark!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your journey, your craft and your wisdom with all your happy followers! You really make a difference❤️😊🦘🇦🇺Yvonne, Melbourne, Australia
The work you share with us is illustrative of the healing process many of are going through.. It is a process and it takes work and time to get through it to a better place.
Barry: this is a wonderful New Year's gift video. Watching you from the beginning has been a journey for both of us. Sharing like you do through your work on restorations has been a calm place to watch when you upload. We all really need that place to go to in these difficult times. Thank You.
Congratulations Barry on reaching another milestone subscription number from one of your earliest subscribers🎉 another beautiful and marvelous restoration ! May the New Year yeah another monumental year!❤❤❤❤❤
Every one of your thoughtful, beautiful video productions touches my soul, makes me pause and think, and fills me with gratitude for discovering this treasure of a channel, which has a treasure of a human being at its helm. 🥰
That is a gorgeous table. You did a wonderful job!!! Cant really even see where the damage was. Hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday and a wonderful new year😊😊
Congratulations Barry, no one on RUclips deserves it more than you. Happy New Year, and I'm beyond thrilled to have gotten a glimpse of what's to come in 2025 from you. Please keep doing what you do. Best wishes for the coming year.
Congratulations on your subscribers award. You do deserve it. Even for just your content. But I like to think that you are something extra special in the RUclips world.
Barry, by being kind to old damaged furniture you are being kind to people. Kind to those who made the pieces originally, kind to those who owned them and kind to us who watch and listen. Thank you.
It's not so much furniture restoration, you are participating in furniture salvation. You're saving an item, it's story, and giving us some satisfaction in sharing the experience. Thanks, Barry.
Lovely table! I’m always calmed by listening to you describe your process and your feelings. You seem like such a caring and thoughtful person, and I’m happy to see you receive your award. You deserve it so much. I appreciate the work you put into each piece. Thanks for just being you. Darla
What a great restoration. I can’t believe you only paid $5 for it. I have enjoyed watching your channel for three years now and I have learned so much from you on the history of the pieces you have done. ❤

I sometimes forget that you’re refinishing furniture because I get so involved with your voice and stories. I’m 69 yrs old but I’m always learning something new about life every day and your narrations too❤
As always a beautiful piece is shining again. I found refurbishing furniture and word working after the unexpected death of my hubby. He was only 53. Restoring his coffee table allowed me to grieve in private and heal at the same time. I learnt new skills and methods over the past 12 months thanks to you and a few others. 12 months ago I started refurbishing and only just finished it. Now when I look at it, I remember the old and look forward to the new. Thank you for your gentle manner and inspiration
100k! Congratulations Barry. I'm not surprised. Aside from your beautiful work, you're a great story teller. I've so enjoyed your channel these past years, and look forward to many more.
Congratulations, Barry on 100K subs. It has been such a pleasant journey with you for these past years. I never tire of hearing what you share with us. Maybe soon I will include myself in sending you a card or letter to show my appreciation.😀👍❤
4 legs and a top. So simple, nothing to brag about, it’s only a table! Then it meets Barry, and that humble stained, simple table blossoms into a beautiful, graceful, decorative piece of furniture. The variegation of colour across the top, the detailed grain patterns in the wood, the classical cut of its shape are now exposed and worthy of praise. Instead of being something to hide away, it becomes a piece to take centre stage. Well done Barry, it’s truly beautiful. Thank you for our present, that too is very appealing. Also congratulations on getting your plaque from RUclips. Be proud of it Barry, you have worked very hard for that. It is your recognition of the lives you have touched by doing what you do. That is no easy feat. I wish you much more success in the coming year, and I pray for happiness and comfort for you always. Much love ❤️
I have quite a few of my grandmothers mid century modern teak furniture pieces from the 1960s and I cherish them greatly. They will be handed down to my son when I pass on as he also really likes them. Thank you for restoring this beautiful piece, teak is a wonderful wood.
I'm more of an old soul, and for some reason, I'm drawn to VERY OLD natural wood furniture. However, from watching your channel I'm beginning to appreciate some-mid century modern furniture. I have a few end/side tables I will be refinishing when the weather gets a little warmer. My husband doesn't appreciate it when I work on things in the house 😂. I'm not sure why. It's just a little dust, stripper, denatured alcohol, stain, and mostly shellac smells.😂 what could go wrong? The table turned out fanatics. Great job.
@@rosannamize6622 You’re quite funny! I have a husband who gets upset with “trivial” things such as you mentioned! But we’ve been together for 56 years now so we both just “cop it sweet” and muddle on! It’s not worth a divorce, is it? ! Don’t sweat the small stuff!!!

Congratulations, 100,000 subscribers! A testimony to how much you inspire us with your awesome insight and your fabulous talents! What a year as we step into 2025! Thank you for all your your videos and all of your fantastic stories! Happy New Year Barry! 😊❤
I for one am grateful for the ad placements that allow you to create these videos. A;; the products you feature have great quality. Again, the table came out well - I love the Danish look.
You're right, teak is a very sturdy wood. I spent 1985 to 1989 walking the teak deck of USS Missouri. It's ability to take rough treatment and still maintain it's looks is legendary. The teak deck of USS Arizona is still largely intact after being under seawater for 84 years. The table is quite beautiful and kudos to you.
Barry, you have a talent to take even a small piece like this and make it beautiful again. Many years ago, I bought a house, the previous owners left it a mess. They left a teak coffee table, it was in the same shape as yours. I had no experience in refinishing at that time, so I painted it. What a disaster. If only I had known then. The teak oil bleeds, so the white table ended up orange. I love watching you work. You are so patient. I've learned so much from you. Thank you ❤
I have that same Lane box. It was my moms and I love these wooden boxes. Teak- darn near indestructible. Edited to add- lovely restoration, it can now be enjoyed for many more years, a beautiful simple table. My favorite. Thanks Barry! And thank you sharing the human condition- always a work in progress. Our nicks and dings make us who we are with all our imperfections. Resilient, capable of restoration and being of service to those in need.
It is my hope that we all will find the path to healing and transformation. This timelessly elegant table now shines, the imperfections have dimmed with attention and energy, so its true character is there for all to see. A heartfelt Happy New Year!
@MadCityModern that's what I was expecting you to use, but the wet towel and iron did great and makes a lot of sense about raising the stained fibers. I'm so glad you posted that. It's another arsenal in stain removal methods.
Hey, Barry, just want to let you know that I have recently started to refinish furniture and it has helped me tremendously. Oddly enough, the money is not really the issue, but the challenge of restoring and reimagining a piece has helped me to keep my spirits up and gets me up in the morning. Basically, I want to sell the pieces to have room to refinish another project!
I love teak. It has substance, like oak. I inherited a teak piece from my step-father and cherish its beauty and style, though moving it over the years requires more muscle power. Nice work Barry.
I agree. It was a very special day, and I am thrilled to be using this "practice" piece in my workshop for a very specific purpose (to hold many letters full of amazing, heartfelt stories). I hope to reach and help many people in the future because of it. Thank you! Barry
You are 100% right Barry. Projects can heal us. I like my crafts. No matter how fiddly the project it gives me something to do. Also when it becomes a gift to enrich someone else's life it brings me joy. The past few weeks I made Christmas Gnomes to give to family members for Christmas. The project took me a while but it was clear everyone enjoyed them. They heal me by reducIng anxiety, keeping me awake and I learn so much from my own trials and errors doing the projects.
Very nice! You're a master at turning an ugly piece of furniture into a beautiful and useful piece. Thank you for such good videos! And congratulations on reaching 100,000+ subscribers!
That is probably the best $4.99 you've ever spent. That table responded extremely well to your ministrations and is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing the restoration.
I watch other furniture restoration channels but yours is the most unique. I watch the videos for enjoyment and don't really care about how the furniture is restored. You hit the nail on the head with your approach.
It's beautiful, Barry. Finally, someone who gets how doing restoration work can bring you calmness. If I don't feel it with a particular piece, I don't do it. My goal is to always bring back beauty and give or return it to someone special. It's the love that I put in to each piece, that is special to me, and hopefully for the person getting it. That has to be part of the equation, for me anyway. You inspire me with each video you post and your work is remarkable. Thank you for always sharing them with us. Happy new year🎉
Very beautiful. I like that you not only refinish furniture, but always have a story to tell. It may be very happy to see the little cedar chest we sent you. I’m so glad that you got it and are enjoying it. It’s finished with Odie‘s oil so hopefully it will be beautiful and useful for many years to come. Merry Christmas and a very blessed new year to you!
It was you! Thank you so much for this! I love it. I filmed it as soon as I brought it home from the post office. I can't thank you enough for the encouragement. Barry
Hi Barry, Fear not, you have MANY years to keep doing what you love. I'm 82 now, and still refinish furniture, like your teak table, which I then donate to non-profits for them to resell. It's a great way to use my little shop, with many refurbished tools as old as you are, while still giving service to those who need it. Next time you run into a stain like the one on the table, give oxalic acid a try. Usually works on most stains, though I haven't tried it on teak. Watco's Danish oil might have been a good finish too. I like to let 2 coats sink in with a good wipe down after about 10 minutes. Then let it dry for 48 hours, and then put a coat of satin poly oil-based varnish on. Very durable, and you don't have to refresh the finish frequently like you do with just an oil finish. Also resists stains, and can still be easily fixed if it gets dinged.
Fantastic!! Thank you for your stories, calming voice, and sage advice. You have become an inspiration for myself and so many more! I look forward to another year and many more.😊
Barry: every time you do a video, you give your viewers two gifts. One the actual furniture restoration of a piece and two, your stories and sound thinking. It is always a pleasure to see and hear what you have to say. That teak table is a beauty. Just a beautiful job. Kudos for reaching the first RUclips recognition. Carol from California
Barry, you are truly very special to us!! Your workmanship is amazing, and your storytelling is what makes us love you even more! I don't know if you realize the impact you have on others and how special that is!! Thank you for being you and helping us "heal" with every video!! That teak table is beautiful... just like you and your inspiration and caring thoughts! Wishing you all the best for 2025!!
Another great video. Congratulations on your award. It was well deserved by you. You are a very humble person. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the coming year.
What a beautiful little table! That was a steal at $5, for a danish vintage piece-wow. I’m astonished that the stain came out… just curious why you used the iron method rather than oxalic acid?
This table is absolutely stunning! You saw something in this table which is why you bought it. Even though you didnt think it was a piece for a restoration video, it turned out to be a spectacular transformation! Fyi...Mack from Midwest Cleaning has been recommending and telling his viewers to watch your channel. ❤❤❤❤❤
I get so much out of the work you do. The natural wood you’ve brought back to life is beautiful. It feeds my soul to see something with little left to offer at first glance, but when effort and love are invested, the piece is alive and stunning. When our lives are troubled, if we persevere with effort and love we can often turn things around. Happy New Year!
Thanks bunches, Barry. You inspire me and I’m so close to feeling confident enough to start my first project. Happy New Year to you and yours from me and mine.🎉
I think this video was actually a gift for me ;) I live in Søborg, Denmark, and Søborg Møbelfabrik actually still exists. It was founded in 1890 and has manufactured - and still do - high quality furniture in great Danish design. The factory produces mainly office furniture and classic items designed by e.g. Børge Mogensen, Christian Hvidt, Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen and Mogens Lassen. This was a nice surprise and as usual you did a great job. Always a pleasure to watch. And congratulations on 100,000 subscribers - you have earned it! Happy new year 🥳
Happy New Year Barry. This piece turned out beautiful! I live the little board you made as well! Congratulations on getting so many subscribers. You truly do deserve it. I love your video format and calm demeanor throughout your videos.
I love thrift stores! I’ve learned the art of packing a paper grocery bag very well for their bag day sales. This table is so beautiful. I love the wood grain, and you did such a great job with getting rid of the stain.
You stated this piece was an opportunity for you to develop your skills, however I find I’m the one always learning something from your videos. Thank you! I’m looking forward to your videos in the coming year.
Like a lot of the pieces you refinish, we all have, scares, dents and the need for some tlc. When we take the time like you to care for ourselves we all have a brighter future. Happy New Year Barry and congrats on the new award, it’s well deserved. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another great episode Barry and congratulations on reaching the subscribers growth. I watch these uploads because it reminds me of when I was selling antiques and the men who worked in our restoration room making the furniture viable for resell. The journey of the restoration is a healing process. I've never minded your sponsor plugs because you are a great orator ( some other channels are not as adept.) I'm very drawn to teak furniture because I grew up in the seventies when it was at its peak in Scandinavian design. Thank you for always providing great content and Happy New Year.
Congratulations on your 100k subscribers! I don't mind your ads because they're unobtrusive, they blend in well with the video tone so if I have a playlist of your videos going in the background they aren't jarring
Congratulations on having 100,000 subscribers. I love your channel and think you have something very unique and special to offer anyone who watches your videos.
Thank you ❤
Love the oversized white stylized horned..ibex/ gazelle in your final sequence...table not too shabby either!😉
Thank you for noticing! That horned animal was a special detail to me.
I love this
Great choice to buy that table. Its simple lines are gorgeous. Excellent work. Bravo!
Thank you!
As always beautiful restoration Barry! Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2025! Happy New Year and God bless you!
Thank you. Happy New Year to you too!
I've never heard of removing a stain like that. Thank you Barry.
I could have also tried Oxcalic Acid
@@MadCityModernThat’s what I’d expected you to do, but the method you employed worked grandly. Congratulations! It’s beautiful.
@MadCityModern that's what I was expecting you to use, but the wet towel and iron did great and makes a lot of sense about raising the stained fibers. I'm so glad you posted that. It's another arsenal in stain removal methods.
Oh wow! That table went from looking like a cheap factory table to one gorgeous collectible piece. Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers.
I love this
The wonderful memory of making that cutting board together will last a lifetime. I am grateful for that experience. Thank you barry.
Thank you!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
That is probably the best $4.99 you've ever spent. That table responded extremely well to your ministrations and is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing the restoration.
Thank you for sharing this Mathew
The sounds of the sanding and scraping make my heart just slow down and calm.
It's so nice to watch someone bring back original finish instead of slopping paint all over. Love your work.
Thank you! I agree, restoring the original beauty is much more rewarding.
Barry
I feel like teak doesn't get enough love in furniture, it's absolutely gorgeous to look at.
Another beautiful restoration, Barry! I love Danish furniture and you did this little table proud! Happy New Year! 🙂
Appreciate that. Happy New Year to you as well!
Your words are so true. Thank you for sharing your heart and your wisdom ❤
Thank you for watching. 😊
I love how your channel has evolved to cover stories and deeper ideas while still including restoration methods
It has developed into something that has truly helped me. Thank you
❤❤❤❤Happy New 🙋♀️🇺🇸
Happy New Year 🇺🇸
So beautiful! Happy new year!
Thank you!
I look forward to another year and many more.😊
That is very kind of you to say. I appreciate it so much.
Beautifully done table, as usual. Your editing and presentation make for a very relaxing video with real therapeutic value. Thanks again.
Another beautiful job. Well deserved milestone!
Thank you
Barry: every time you do a video, you give your viewers two gifts.
Thank you. I am grateful for the support.
What a beautiful little table! That was a steal at $5, for a danish vintage piece-wow. I’m astonished that the stain came out… just curious why you used the iron method rather than oxalic acid?
It was just a chance to continue to practice this skill
Thank you for giving me this thought. Truly encouraging. Barry
Thanks bunches, Barry. You inspire me and I’m so close to feeling confident enough to start my first project. Happy New Year to you and yours from me and mine.🎉
You can do this!
Happy new year 🥳
Barry, you’re a gift. You have been given a great talent. And the choice to connect with your viewers is in your wisdom. Blessings.
I truly appreciate your kind words.
Congratulations on the milestone, Barry. It is well deserved.
The little table turned out so well, teak is a beautiful wood.
Happy New Year Barry. This piece turned out beautiful! I live the little board you made as well! Congratulations on getting so many subscribers. You truly do deserve it. I love your video format and calm demeanor throughout your videos.
Thank you for sharing this
I love thrift stores!
Thank you so much for these kind words.
This is such thoughtful feedback. Thank you!
Thanks Barry. I love listening to you as you work on your projects. I’ve been listening to you for about two years now.
You are a talented storyteller and furniture restorer and I look forward to watching many more of your videos in 2025. Wishing you all the best for the New Year.
Thank you for your kind words!
I’m home alone and this came at the right time, so thank you for your gift it’s brought me much joy. It’s been a pleasure watching and listening to you this year and wish you and every member a wonderful new year ❤
Congratulations! Your videos make life a bit better. Yup, I watch them over and over sometimes. Its been a hard year.
Hope these continue to help
