In this video The Paramedic Coach explains sinus tachycardia, which is a fast heart rate. He shows the EKG rhythm on the Lifepak heart monitor and why a patient may display this heart rhythm.
This is a great review for EMT and paramedic students preparing for school or getting ready to pass their NREMT exam.

Im (young) in my 20s and my heart rate will be in the 120s sitting down calm. When I stand up 130s and when I walk 140+ I have been to E.R they say my heart is fine and that I have anxiety even when I'm perfectly calm. What can I do to lower my heart rate.
Hello, I come with the same doubt. I am 24 years old and I have had sinus tachycardia for more than 1 month, around 120 bpm at rest. They last all day and I can't calm them down with anything, even at night they regulate a little. The doctors tell me everything is normal but I know this is not normal.
@@Onilinxx Yeah for me it will go away for a day or so usually something else will take it's place anxiety wise then it will come back. My best advice is to not check your pulse at all and eat less it will lower your heart rate. Another thing would be waking up and sleeping at the same time preferably sleeping at night.
@@Nickkl2000-pc9ovmy doc prescribed me metoprolol 25 mg twice a day with telmesartan 40 mg. My heart rate is always above 120 and if go outside or exposed to sunlight, it increases around 150. The medication is not helping much in some situations but mostly it reduces my heart rate to 90s-100s.
@@Nickkl2000-pc9ovexactly the same situation, I got Propranolol 10 mg - then I was well , when I stopped taking them , the condition goes same (BPM-100+) RESTING
@@Onilinxx Im 24 too. Going through same problem.
Plz update man
Good idea with the 12 lead. Anyone and everyone can get a 3 lead. But everyone below 60 or above 100 should get a 12.
Love these tidbits!
God Bless You My Brother! Your the Greatest! 🙏✝️🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴
Just had an hour and a half of my heart beat going from 80 to 120 to 180 that lasted over 1.5hours I felt so weak numb electrified so I put my oximeter on, my heart felt like coming out of my chest then my oxygen went down to 70 which made faint not knowing how low my oxygen went and my BPM high.. I was just browsing fashion websites... I'm still trying to recover how exhausted I am it happpeens often these days but hospitals don't want to see me..I have many medical conditions HYDROCEPHALUS, epilepsy, general dystonia that is too severe I have hypoxia as a result of restricted airways due to spasticity..they suspect MiTo disease but they wouldn't even want to test it or treat what conditions they already confirmed 😢😢
Shall be well❤❤
I have fear of social anxiety also
I have fear of talking to people 😭 that's why 😔 I have sinus tachycardia 😢
This is due to my school and teacher 😢 my school had a very unsocial environment and also teacher were so rude and strict to students 😭 . They used to treat students like animals 😢
Use beta blockers
Thanks
there was a time where I was just sitting down in my doctors office just for a normal check up and when they checked my heart beat it was sitting at 154 then slowly going up, the highest it got was 174.. wasn’t nervous or anything, even when we saw how high it was. Wasn’t wanting to go down either so we did a bunch of testing and I was hooked up to a holter monitor for a day and everything came back “normal” so they just gave me propranolol and sent me on my way. It hasn’t gone back to 170 in a while but my resting heart rate is still pretty high.
معلومات جدا جميلة ❤
I'm 27 and it gets like this I go to the er doctors all of them say I'm fine insight plz plus I lift weights it'll jump
There are no problems if Kids at 10 ~ 13 age?
My IST: "hey!"
I heard that inappropriate sinus tachycardia isn’t dangerous
Not clinical tach if theyre running a fever, dehydrated panic attack ect this video is misleading and the strip shows no variation.
Is sinus trachycardia nd atrial fibrillation r same or not??🤔🤔
They are completely different rhythms. Sinus tachycardia is a sinus rhythm that is just too fast. Atrial fibrillation is an abnormal heart rhythm that is weakens your atrial kick and causes an irregularly irregular rhythm meaning there is no pattern to irregularity. To do Running is good with sinus tachycardia
I keep having episode while im not moving resting hr is around 90 then shoots up to 140-150 mult doctors still no clue as to what it is have an appointment Thursday. Is a stress test something i can ask to get done so tired of these episodes as it makes me almost passout
Get tested for pots syndrome dysautonomia do a poor man standing test lay down then take your pulse then stand and take it if goes up more than 30 u could have form of dysautonomia
As someone with pots I would highly recommend looking into pots or other forms of dysautonomia.
I’m the same way.
Got a stress test today and that was my starting hr, doc had me sit down before I even started, idk why for sure but I think she wanted to check if my hr went down from sitting (it did)
There’s also inappropriate sinus tachycardia and it’s exhausting.
What is that?
its when your heart rate is always fast even when there is no reason (aka not anxious, not exercising, not having a fever). I have it or something similar and it really sucks. It feels like you are constantly running on a treadmill@@annab13
ta’uh’card’uh?
I am 12 whith it and my heart usually gets to 280
So if some one just got done exercising would you want me to 12 lead that.
They feel fine just got done exercising that’s it all vitals are stable just has a heart rate of 120-125 you want me to ALS this patient?
a 12 lead doesnt necessarily mean your pt is now ALS, its just to cover your bases
@@PesterTM a 12 lead is an ALS intervention .
@@Iaff94 not really an intervention.. it’s diagnostic. Just like taking a blood pressure is not an intervention.
@@Iaff94 no its not, bls units are even allowed to gather a 12 lead if the equipment is available to transfer to the MD. 12 lead doesn't inherently mean that pt needs ALS treatment.
Dont be obnoxious
lol mine jumps up to 190 just standing up!
Iam 13years old my heart beat is 250 maximum
i can control my own heart rate, i can make it raise past 100 just by being anxious xD
I get sinus tachy from my girlfriend. Bradycardia is a withdrawal symptom
Give some beta blocker and get it stabilized quickly especially if there is no underlying heart issues.
Prolonged exertion
jokes on you I have hit 170 bpm
Mine is 180 usually lol or 140
How are you now???
