    I really love the raw 580 even after a couple of years owning one I still can't get over how slick it looks and how amazing it handles in the air

      I completely agree! I love it so much I have three 580s! One 6s, 12s and nitro! I will never not have a RAW 580!

    Great video, thanks. I have both and both are excellent. I prefer sab canopy and canopy mounting, and sab wiring guide. Tron flies amazing, esp. great tail.

      Thank you! I appreciate it, I agree! I am much rather than the SAB canopy mounts. I’m very happy with the quality of Tron especially being a fiberglass canopy. I have yet to see a box stock fiberglass canopy as good as them. But Carbon is always better!

    This is exactly what I've been wanting to see. I love my Raw 580 and was wondering how it stacks up against the Tron. Looks like a Gemini will be in my future

    SAB has set the standard. There's no question. I just finished my Dnamic and recently just built a SAB not long ago. Both fly amazing. But SAB builds just go together so much smoother. EVERYTHING is so well thought out. Not the case with Tron.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +2

      SAB is definitely number one for building! Nothing builds better than a SAB model! I have not had any issues with the two Trons I’ve built. They are definitely not as smooth to build as a SAB, but if you have built models in the past, especially older helicopters, they are a breeze.

      I wouldn't say 'set the standard' as you can see in this video, even the wire carrier plastic is all cracked and broken where it mounts up top near the main shaft. There's always room to improve.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +1

      @ nothing is cracked or broken. It’s injected molding. It’s a mold line. If it was cracked or broken i would have replaced it lol

    I think the question for a buyer is 600 vs true 550 class. The 580 might as well be considered a 600 class. These are both fine machines. I have a kraken 580 and am either adding a raw as they share parts or an orion/Gemini. I'm leaning more towards raw but my mind changes frequently.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +2

      In my opinion, they’re two different class machines but it’s probably one of the most asked questions I get between the two. I think a more fair comparison would be the Orion and RS5 or XL550. The RAW is still my favorite model ever made!

    Thank you very much for the video. What is the difference in flying characteristics between the RAW 500 and 580? Also, does the Tron direct gear system as appose to belt driven (Raw 580) mean that I have to change the gear more often than belt driven after a crash? Thank you again for all that you do for the Hobby.

  • @kajuta240

    Two fine machines! I have to favor the Tron overall due to finer tail and belt setup.
    I gotta lean SAB for their transmission system.
    Tron wins on dual mount trays(when you start to fight placement on Receiver and Antenna...dual trays in the rear are awesome!
    I think the Tron frame is sturdier, plus a better look and design overall.
    Also the center of gravity is alot tighter on the Tron in line with the main shaft.
    It's honestly a tossup and trade back and forth, I dont think you can go wrong with either or especially both!
    Again both amazing designs. 100% no doubt SAB is my next build!
    Genesis is my high contender still. Mini or 700...TBD.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +1

      They are both incredible machines and you really can’t go wrong with either one of them. The raw is still my favorite helicopter to date, but the Orion is my second. SAB gives you a RX tray as well! I just don’t have it mounted because I’m running a V bar. But I agree it is really nice the way Tron does it! Keeps it nice and clean, looking being stacked underneath the FBL. I highly recommend getting a SAB model for your next build!

    Jeff, Can you comment on how you think the Goosky RS5 may slot into these 2 models? Looks like specs make it closer to the R580 in size but your build of it shows it at 7lbs 4.9ozs so right in between and with the traditional pinion/main gear setup. I think I am getting the RS5 at this point simply because it is new! I bet the ilgoblin 580 will come out tomorrow and change everything!

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +1

      I’m working on a video with the RS5 and Tron Orion. The RS5 is a true 550 and more comparable to the Orion. I really like the RS5 but my biggest issue is the tail belt pulley being on top. You have to pull the main shaft to get the tail belt off. Makes it a pain in the event of a crash or maintenance. Also, the tail push rod was too short, but it does fly really good! I will give it that. I think it’s the best bottle they have built so far.

    • @ericphillips6615
      @ericphillips6615 20 дней назад +2

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 I priced up crash costs and the RS5 came in lower than the Tron and SAB being the highest. Hopefully I am getting to where crashes are fewer in between but still a factor! The Nimbus V2 is cheapest but is also the lowest quality. Thanks for what you do, there are not very many other Heli flyers in North Idaho so internet is where I get most of my help!

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  20 дней назад +2

      @@ericphillips6615 so I learned a lot time ago crash cost is important but don’t settle because of crash cost and lose quality but! The RS5 flys amazing! So it’s a great option, SAB is still king but like you said crash cost is the highest. No matter how good of a pilot you are you will definitely still crash but they do get fewer and you get to a point where it’s like once a year or two years. I still have a bad crash normally around once a year. Then some little ones in between.

    I have four Tron models (Nitron 50, BK Nitron, Advance and Dnamic) and the thing that pisses me off the most are the terrible manuals, unimpressive packaging and that absolutely MORONIC tail design.
    It's like they sought a solution to a problem that never existed when they went with nyloc nuts instead of the normal bolts. Absolutely mind-numbing decisions
    Rant over 😅😅

      Dang! You got the BKE Nitron already!? Waiting on mine. Their manual does suck compared to SAB but compared to a lot of other companies. Their manual is really good lol the tail design is very nice other than the walk nuts and not traditional screws! That’s my only complaint.

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 A slight stretch of the truth, mine's on its way like yours. However the point I'm trying to make is that even though there are some annoying flaws with their models I've invested in four of them (for now) - that's how good they are 😅
