This is by far the best amp/sub instillation video I've ever come across for any car. Thanks so much for the time you put into this; I feel so much more confident about doing my own install.
Seriously from the bottom of my heart man, thank you. I'm a pretty passive youtuber and I took the time to like and subscribe haha. Your videos are thorough, clear and helpful without being biased. I don't know how you could do them any better, keep on doing exactly what you already are!
Dude! You are a pro and a great teacher. Thank you! I especially enjoyed your explanation of how to do everything safely, including the placement of the fuse.
wow everything I could ever ask for if a car stereo installation video......... very well laid out very instructive informative video. I especially love the fact that you took the time to show me the rear of the head unit which nobody seems to do. I now feel confident that I could do this installation on my own. thank you so very much for saving me the time and the money and any unnecessary hassle a thousand thank-yous my friend. I hope you're enjoying your WRX and your system. Jeff.
I'm thinking of dynamat the rear hatch back door. Never did soundproofing before & the very few videos on the process say front floor and rear seat floors sb priority, then inside doors, insulating outer door shells. seems complicated. what to insulated foirst & is it $180 for dynamat well spent?
I just bought a kicker key Amp for my 2020 WRX can’t wait to get it installed im currently running an idoing deck and a SKAR single 12” sub and amp combo. Sounds good but my JBL speakers just need a little more power to them. Thanks for the awesome video bro!!!
Great video. I have already upgraded my deck to a idoing after watching your video on it and now I’m about to install SKAR 12” EVL loaded enclosure in my 2020 WRX love these videos keep them coming!!!!
I know you posted the diagram, but would you mind telling me what pin slots you t-tapped your speakers and sub into on the oem receiver please. Thank you.
Just viewed. Excellent. The best I have seen on audio install in WRX. I have 2016 WRX and previously upgraded the tweeters and door speakers. I like the head unit and really don't want to replace it. About to add sub to improve bass - actually to create bass as the doors don't really do well. So thanks for the pointers.
Hey man thanks for your responses and great video! Easy to follow along with. I have a 2020 WRX STI spec.R and am really struggling with the pin outs because of the Harman Kandon stuff. So this is helping a lot.
There is actually a double hole inside the fender that goes directly into the cabin behind and above the fuse/electrical area on the driver's side. It's doubled so that the outside hole is lower than the inside hole. This way the wire has a small loop downward before going through it, so no water can get in. Took me about 10 minutes, and did not take anything apart.
Hey brother thank you for us all!! In the video you mentioned that you ran the RCA cables even though you didn't need them So does that mean I don't need them with my stock head unit? I know I have to run my high level outputs and all my speaker wires but do I also have to worry about my RCA cables if I'm not hooking up to a subwoofer? I'm just trying to power my door speakers with an amplifier. Thanks so much again man!
I like a powered subwoofer under the driver seat, a 4 ch. amp under passenger seat with 1.5F capacitor, replacement component speakers in front, 2- way in rear doors, I like that my head unit has a screen-off option for night driving, and I too, like an easy to adjust bass level. remember to run parallel 8 ga. cable for " the big 4 " wires - alternator positive to batt. positive, alternator frame to frame, engine frame to frame, batt. negative to frame.( bigger ga. if more than 200 w rms ? ) your video was pretty good.
I have a 2016 STI Limited with Harmon Kardon Sound system. I have the converter to change from speakers to RCA. Can I tap into the connections going into or coming out of the Harmon Kardon Amplifier and/or the wires going to the stock 8 in subwoofer?
I was gonna ask that if u have the link to the factory radio harness to add the sub woofer instead of splicing wires or T tapping I have the 2020 wrx sti I have everything Connected big thanks to your video but I don’t wanna cut any wires thanks tho
Awesome vid. I have a 2021 sti and I want to replace all speakers and add amp and sub. Do you by chance have a parts list. Sorry hard to find everything. I wanna keep the stock head unit
best video Ive found, by far for running power cables to trunk area. great camera & sound. I inerited a 1998 subaru forrester from my dad, putting my JL Audio 300/4 amp(75 rms x4 continuous), kenwood 600 rms x 1 sub amp, MB Quartz speakers & JL Audio sub box (30by 13 high by 11.5 inches wide- 2 of 13 inch woofers) compared to my kenwood s9903s head unit & seeing the rear of your oem radio convinced me to never get a dealer installed radio in my next newer car. hpw would you anchor my sub & how many inches from the back seat would you place my huge sub box- aimed at the rear hatch door, but ?
I’m looking to do a full audio upgrade on my base wrx, which of your videos do you recommend I could follow for installing a Sony XAV AX7000 and keeping SWC and backup camera, USB ports etc… I’ll also be getting component speakers with inactive crossovers, how do I go about powering the components, but also the rear door speakers using a 4 channel amp (jl audio jd400/4)
I'm not sure if you already listed these, but can you list all the connector harnesses used to install your Pioneer AVH4201? I've installed speakers, sub and 5 way amp and now trying to figure out all the connections on my limited 2018 wrx formerly with HK. Thanks!
This series of install videos are great! I just have 1 question. (I am not well versed in audio equipment) I bought speakers that came with audio crossovers. How would I go about wiring and installing them?
you do realize that speakers with separate crossovers outside the speaker bodies are only used with an external amp. speaker wires run from the radio head unit to the amp to the crossovers and wires then run to the speakers.
Hey, I'm installing a Sub in 17 as well, and I was wondering if you had a diagram or could tell me specifically what wires I need to splice into. I'm pretty handy with electrical circuits but I'm not sure what the accessory cable or "punch cable" was in your video, i thought all you need is to run speaker output to your sub (my sub has a built in amp).
Hey, an amp and subwoofer was installed in my car. After a drive with the system on and everything runs fine. After i turn it off, ignition off. My interior lights and info screen (the one that has the boost gauge) flickers or turns on and off after like maybe a while its fine. Any idea?
What wire colors did you tap into? I have a powered Kicker sub, my other car I tapped into the power source and rear speakers. Would that apply to this as well? If so what colors are the wires I would need to cut into? I have the same HU in my WRX as you. Hope to hear back thank you.
Question regarding LOC installation for a H/K unit with nav. By what I read here I will be hooking up the following. FR+ (pin 1) to LOC Channel 1 + FR- (pin 5) to LOC Channel 1 - FL+ (pin 2) to LOC Channel 2 + FL- (pin 6) to LOC Channel 2 - ACC (pin 3) to Remote Amp turn on. Is this correct?
I have just pulled the trigger on aftermarket sound after watching your videos a couple times! Running infinity kappa speakers in the cab but i don't know what i want to do with the sub. How do you like the R&H you installed in this video? would you buy it again? Thanks!
how to you get a remote wire to the amp, thats the only place i got lost, sine the oem deck dont have a remote wire, curious caz i got a 2009 sti hatch n want to install an aftermarket amp
Not sure if you can hel or will read this lol. 2020 STI Limited I get buzzing sound when car in accessory mode and a whine when the car is on and push the gas gets louder. I have tried different ground. I have disconnect the left and right RCAs and connected another set that connects to my phone and the sound goes away. Sounds clean. I reconnect the RCAs to the head unit and whine sound is back. Tried grounding RCAs. Last resort a car shop said to buy an isolator. Tried three different sets of RCAs. I read something that the car canbus system could be causing the issue. But IDK I installed the idoing head unit. 2 amps a 4 ch and mono. Grounded in the same place like this video. New tweeters and front door speakers. ran new speaker wire to tweeters and front door speakers to bypass /not use harmon kardon amp. I did n to buy the canbus thing. all power is ran on left driver side. RCAs and speaker wire on the right passenger side.
I installed an amplifier to my head unit for my aftermarket door speakers and I believe I keep blowing #4 (IG2) fuse in the driver side fuse panel. Any advice?
Great video, I used this as reference while I did my install on my 2018 WRX, I have a feedback problem on start up to the sub woofers. I had the same problem on my accord and I had to unplug the ANC unit (active noise cancellation) did you get this problem too? If so what did you do to fix it or prevent it?
ive also seen a suggestion to ground to 2 places, 1 on each side of the car but that means longer ground wires & a ground wire distribution. Never tried a 2 wire ground setup, but have used a ground ditribution block since I run a ground to 2 amps, my main 4 channel amp & my subwoofer amp. verfify that your screw used to ground to the car body has benn sanded to bare metal, no painted surface where attached. Ive seen some installs use seat screws for ground but there is often a painted metal surface under seat bolts. also use good quality wires, ofc (oxygen free core like Knukonnects or skyhigh). these are best for the rca wires from your head radio unit & also wires from your amp to the speakers. a 12 awg gauge knukonnects 100ft of wire is from $50 to $70 on amazon.
This is awesome! Been waiting on someone to create a sub and amp install for the WRX! I have the speaker upgrades only on my WRX. Where did you buy your wiring kit from?
I'm struggling figuring out how to attach my power wire to battery terminal. I have 3 wires with bent connectors not allowing me to put a ring terminal on and I don't want to change out the terminal as one of them has a fuse on it. Help please
They are factory wires already there. I'm not sure what all they go to...alt, fuse block and unsure is my guess. Wish I was able to send a pic. Or can you do a short video just showing your power wire connected to the battery terminal. Any pic I see of anyone's wrx has Thier red cover on so I can't see what they are doing to connect. I think if I get another washer or 2 I could make it work but the terminal on batter is sticking up higher than the connectors
Great job with the video; could've saved time by tapping into the speaker wires from the rear. That way, u would've only needed to route from the rear, to where u mounted the amp, which was also in the rear.
If I didnt have an LOC but my amp has a high input for speaker signals. Would you recommend I tap into the front speakers instead of rear since rear have that bass roll off??
Will say, in retrospect, would have been better getting different sub versus kicker sub upgrade. Added Alpine MRV-f300 to power kicker upgraded speakers up front but there is a low range frequency (sub is non adjustable), and messing with crossover frequency on amp - door speakers can't handle that low of range. Nonetheless, as you said - night and day difference adding power to the kicker upgrades. Should of gotten separate sub and perhaps 5 channel amp looking back. oh well.
Im contiplating soundproof also- do you recommend dynamat, but application on the inside of the outer door shells seems real hard, ie taking the door apart scares me. I see sileas & noico sound deadening mat but, unlike dynamat, the are asphalt based & the possibility of bad odors in summer heat suggest a problem. I have no experience at all soundproofing but after many years of car audio upgrades, my equipment are keepers. what about oders in summer heat? is dynamat really the best option?
I got my WRX Premium last Thurs and I paid for the speaker upgrade. Sorry to be a pest! Im not a gear head lol Balance/Fader Speed Volume Control Equalizer Sound Restore Volume Soother Virtual Bass
Do NOT use T Taps, I was the Lead Autotech for a few years and those taps are a fantastic way to cause problems in a car. After a few years they can lead to corrosion in the wires and they usually cut a lot of the wires in the cable when you connect them creating a potential issue with the wires original purpose. If you want an easy and efficient way to splice into a cable use a military splice and high quality electrical tape. This video was great and he did a beautiful job but I was absolutely surprised when he suggested using a T Tap. I don’t know any professional techs in the Denver area who would suggest using them. Even the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) certification test tells you not to ever use these.
It's a safety feature, like a seat belt- it's not necessary until you get in an accident. If you get into an accident and that cable gets severed or the skin gets frayed and makes contact with the chassis the fuse blows and cuts off the circuit. If the fuse isn't there you essentially short out your battery, the cable gets hot and catches fire or the battery can even explode. It is NOT for the amp, it's for YOU.
I don’t get it. He uses good speakers and his recording and RUclips channel in general is amazing. But then he uses cheap horrible BOSS AUDIO wiring kit. He wonders why the sound from his system is subpar. YOU HAVE TO USE OFC WIRING BUDDY. Also doing the big 3 will make everything that much better. Someone tell this guy what’s up
This is by far the best amp/sub instillation video I've ever come across for any car.

What color wires did you end up cutting if you remember, if you don’t i get it, been 4 years lol
i appreciate the sound system video installs, very helpful
Hey man thanks for your responses and great video! Easy to follow along with. I have a 2020 WRX STI spec.R and am really struggling with the pin outs because of the Harman Kandon stuff. So this is helping a lot.
Judging by the Harman pin out diagram... does that mean I only need to tap into the Left rear side??? Because there’s no Right Rear side connected.
awsome job bro! i bought a jl audio stereo upgrade and will be installing soon.🖒🖒
This helped a lot thank you
There is actually a double hole inside the fender that goes directly into the cabin behind and above the fuse/electrical area on the driver's side. Ooorah Devil Dog! Same car and doing the same thing soon.
Thanks for the tip man! Went through the same grommet. Made the install super easy!
Helped me with mine, so far I like the wire running location. I just need to tap the high output converter and 🤞 it works first try
Boost & Shutter what wire is the remote tapped to? I tried connecting to ACC radio (blue I believe oddly enough) but still no power to the amp
Boost & Shutter perfect will do.
Did that work
Great video, I plan on installing my amp this weekend, wondering why did you choose to run your cable via the wheel arch and no through the firewall?
Hey brother thank you for us all!! In the video you mentioned that you ran the RCA cables even though you didn't need them So does that mean I don't need them with my stock head unit? I know I have to run my high level outputs and all my speaker wires but do I also have to worry about my RCA cables if I'm not hooking up to a subwoofer? and I treat the doors and accessible areas of floor to 1st sound deadening, then insulation - in doors.
Would you be able to show me or explain how you tapped into the rear speakers? I have this same amp I'm installing in a 2018 Civic LX sedan
I have a 2016 STI Limited with Harmon Kardon Sound system. I have the converter to change from speakers to RCA. Can I tap into the connections going into or coming out of the Harmon Kardon Amplifier and/or the wires going to the stock 8 in subwoofer?

So remote wire is going to #3 for acc, then where do you splice in speaker wires? I don’t see anything marked on the diagram
Awesome vid. I have a 2021 sti and I want to replace all speakers and add amp and sub. Do you by chance have a parts list. Sorry hard to find everything. I wanna keep the stock head unit
Will that speaker diagram work for my 2016 WRX STI base model? I'm planning on just using a hi-low converter to attach the RCA cables
What colors are the rear speaker wires?!?!

HI
is your WRX CVT having two electronic seats? or just the driver seat is electronic ?

Question regarding LOC installation for a H/K unit with nav.
By what I read here I will be hooking up the following.
FR+ (pin 1) to LOC Channel 1 +
FR- (pin 5) to LOC Channel 1 -
FL+ (pin 2) to LOC Channel 2 +
FL- (pin 6) to LOC Channel 2 -
ACC (pin 3) to Remote Amp turn on.
Is this correct?
thanks you for this brother followed your step by step made my install easier @boost & stutter
Hey,
First off great video helped quite a bit but I do have one question.
For the signal wire did u splice that to #10 illumination signal 12v?
Is the signal wire the blue wire coming from the sub?
Awesome video man, best I have seen this far! Did you connect remote input from amp to pin #3 (ACC) or pin #10( ILL)?
I used pin 3 too, (ACC)
At 25:00, what part is that actually called to tap in the rear speakers so I can look for that in an auto parts store or hardware store?
I have just pulled the trigger on aftermarket sound after watching your videos a couple times! Running infinity kappa speakers in the cab but i don't know what i want to do with the sub. How do you like the R&H you installed in this video? would you buy it again?
Thanks!
great video.. what's the color of all the speaker wires I am taking them off and adding a 4 channel amp thanks
Asbeck360 I have the same question!!
what size speakers are in the 2021 subaru wrx sti limited? i know they come with 9 harmon kardon speakers but i have no clue what size they are
Why don't you upgrade the headunit to Oem 7" non nav off a 17 limited wrx or 2016+ forester if u want to stay stockish
how to you get a remote wire to the amp, thats the only place i got lost, sine the oem deck dont have a remote wire, curious caz i got a 2009 sti hatch n want to install an aftermarket amp

What kind of brackets did you use to mount the sub to the seat?
how about a link to that diagram? I cant find it on google.
what did you use to mount the amp? just self tapping screws?

threw my keys in the front yard, not bothering putting my dash back together. whoever finds the keys have fucking fun!
Don’t under stand the wire diagram what wires do I have to tap into exactly?
What wires did you hook into for the rear I mean the color
Since the factory HU doesn’t have pre amp do I need a line out converter? I’m still new to all this. Thanks
Boost & Shutter oh okay great, cause I got the same amp that you have in the video and it says that it has high level input
Did you ever install a new head into?

Boost & Shutter Just got my system installed and sounds amazing !
If you have a harmon kardon system, this does not work. There are 0 guides for a harmon kardon system, especially with a 30-pin connection off the amp
What colors though 😥
Did u ever figure it out
No way. There's a rubber grommet seal. You just slit a hole and your inside.
In the firewall
A fuse on your power cable is not necessary I've been running systems in my cars for almost 20 years and never used one
Tu conexión es de un novato
I don’t get it. He uses good speakers and his recording and RUclips channel in general is amazing. But then he uses cheap horrible BOSS AUDIO wiring kit. He wonders why the sound from his system is subpar. YOU HAVE TO USE OFC WIRING BUDDY. Also doing the big 3 will make everything that much better. Someone tell this guy what’s up
WOAHHHHH wait you bought an automatic x.x
