    My take on this as a mother of a toddler, but also someone that has experience working within the public school system, is that the idea of sending your kids off is a modern idea. The job that God has called us to is to disciple our children. It’s a justification to say that I’m just not capable or the child is not happy homeschooling. Parents are capable of homeschooling their children. School is a glorified baby sitting system. It’s a way to hand your kid off to the state. Christians need to understand that it is not just what the schools are teaching but it’s simply the fact that prior to the age of accountability around that pre-teen age it’s not ok to send your young children away. That’s the concept. They are too young. When they get to that mature age, then I think the discussion of sending your kids off into the world applies.
    People have it backwards now. They think that you send them off when they are young, and when they are capable of doing their work more independent you can then homeschool. That’s because parents are taught and buy into the idea that they aren’t capable or do not have the schedule, resources or whatever.

      Totally agree 🙋🏻‍♀️
      Is the parents job (if it’s possible it’s hard for single parents) to do it.
      And more important is to ask Abba what He desires for His children.
      Our child went to a private school for 2 yrs. After covid some situations in our family came up and we were faced with considering to homeschool.
      We didn’t want to do it if it was us making the decision since I had been praying for Abba’s direction for our child’s school since before she even attended. I wanted to know where He desired her to be. I knew that wherever it was it was His plan which is better than mine. Even if that meant she would be in public school. After continuous prayer we understood we were being directed to homeschool. Homeschool is not easy but I have seen His hand in everything we do. Blessed is His name 💗

      Yes, we are called to disciple our children. That does not mean that we have to be the ones to teach them biology and arithmetic. If a mother wants to homeschool and she is qualified to do so, then that’s amazing. I’m all for people spending more time for their children when it works out for everyone. However, I do not agree that all parents are qualified to homeschool. As a former public school teacher, I’ve had so many homeschooled kids come to me, and Parents asked me to catch them up. I’ve seen kids that had no idea how to interact with teenagers their age, who did not practice basic hygiene, and who were years behind their peers. I was tasked with telling the parents that there was simply no way that I will be able to catch him out to the grade level in one year. I’ve met so many kids that are going to suffer into their adult years because their mothers homeschooled them when they were not qualified to do so.
      Those poor results are not necessarily because they were homeschooled, but because of the way their parents homeschool them. Again, everything has to do with the parents. Not all homeschool children will come out this way, just like not all children go to public school are somehow going to become Completely left us and lose their faith. These stereotypes are partially based in truth, but they are the result of poor parenting, and not necessarily the result of how the parents chose to educate their children.
      Most of my friends homeschool, and some of them have very lovely children. So I am not against homeschooling, but against the idea that it’s right for everybody. I know someone whose nine-year-old can’t read, and she refuses to put him in school. She is not qualified to homeschool, but she is so fearful of public schools because of attitudes like this.

    • @jessienelson1932
      @jessienelson1932 3 месяца назад +1

      @@theresa.m. I guess that’s also where we disagree, I actually think the education level in public schools is horrible and going down. I don’t think as a homeschool parent you have to go at it alone, hire a tutor. There’s coops where the kids meet twice a week. There’s a lot of creative options to make sure the education is sufficient but also better than public school.
      I don’t believe in any situation it’s the best for the kid. Is there situations where it’s the only option, yes. I can sympathize with those situations, but a mindset shift for those that don’t believe they are qualified is what I pray for.
      I don’t think it’s quality education in public schools. The way our education system works these days is by creating group think mentality. Certain topics that are too polarizing are just off limits. I don’t think we’re raising strong critical thinking teenagers when they are told from the start only talk about the topics that won’t “offend” anyone.
      Sometimes truth is offensive, and it’s this group thinking mentality that is dragging our country down an immoral and degenerate path.

    • @theresa.m.
      @theresa.m. 3 месяца назад

      That’s certainly true of a lot of public schools. I chose one with a rigorous curriculum. I tried co ops, but all of the “teachers” were just moms without degrees. They had no idea how to control a classroom and it was chaotic. The kids were awkward and had no idea how to socialize. We’re jumper, so that was the same experience in 3 co ops in 3 different states. I’m sure there are some great ones out there, but I couldn’t find one. Home schooling is lonely, even with a co op. My kids and I have done better since them being in school. They finally are being challenged academically, and I can supplement at home. We read classics and go over apologetics at home, and we teach them how to think critically. The only difference is now they have friends and aren’t behind academically. Some people find it hard to believe that a public school gave our family the told we needed to succeed, and I find that strange. Teaching in public middle and high schools were some of the Janet’s years of my life. There are so many amazing public school teachers out there, and Christians don’t give them any credit.

    I’ve been a public school teacher for 17 years, and the major issue that I’ve seen for church kids hasn’t been that the school corrupts the kids: it’s that the kids are unprepared for the level of peer pressure that they face. I know of kids who have converted others at school, but they are the exception. Most church kids that I’ve seen in public school get converted to the other side. “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” Now, if your kids have other truly Christian friends who they can go to school with, they could do well and be a light, but even the apostles weren’t sent out by themselves.

    • @jessienelson1932
      @jessienelson1932 3 месяца назад +9

      @@shellyjensen609 why are young children being sent out as missionaries when they aren’t prepared or capable? The issue is there is an age of maturity and accountability when they are able to be the light in the dark, but it’s not when they are children. The other issue I see is in the public school system there isn’t enough of a leap forward in life. Being around people only your current age is not real life. I am in favor of preparing children when they are young to become well balanced and hard working young adults that understand life on a deeper and more critically thinking way. Practically, what the system gets wrong is treating school like a job. It’s not enough to say for a lot of children that are not academically inclined that school is a job. They also are insulated from the real world in these institutions that they are trapped in for 8 hours a day.
      So we are stunting the growth of the teenagers who need real life experiences, and exposing the babies before they are ready and normalizing the wrong things.

    I don't know if you read comments but I do have a good one. My children were VERY late readers, if they were in public school they would be very behind, we homeschooled from the beginning. They would have been diagnosed dyslexic as well. There are tools out there to help parents who teach their kids themselves, you don't have to become an expert in dyslexia you just need the right tool. (barton reading program) But even still it just took more time for reading to click for my kids, the tools didn't really do that much to help them get there it just took more time and many parents freak out when their child is not reading by a certain age. It took a lot of patience for us to wait so long. Then once it clicked they took off rapidly. They do need more support for spelling as well, but we are getting there. They are behind their peers, but they don't want to become doctors or lawyers or scientists. They don't need the rigor that is public school.

We decided to homeschool her this year because we see she needs more 1:1 help in reading and writing that we’re unfortunately not guaranteed at her school. She was visiting a reading specialist at her school. But at the end of the year, when she brought home her journal, she had only one full page done. Seeing that, I realized that she wasn’t doing the work she needed to improve either her reading or writing skills. Hey! I love your podcast! I’m not sure if you read comments, but I wanted to share my experience. I’m a Christian who was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, around 3 or 4. I've been in public school all my life, and there are many resources available to help students with dyslexia. For example, public high schools offer Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that provide accommodations like extra time on tests and assignments, as well as small group settings.
    One piece of advice I’d give is to consider taking some challenging classes in high school. I regret not taking harder classes until my senior year, once I realized I could handle them and didn’t need teachers’ recommendations. Over the years, I faced some teasing from students and teachers, but I’ve opened up about my dyslexia and found that many people share similar experiences.
    While my experience in public high school had its challenges, I don’t regret it. Despite the doubts I faced, I was able to share my faith and ensure I received the support I needed. As I start college next week, I've made sure to have all the necessary accommodations in place. I chose a community college because they often offer more personalized support, and I want to ensure I have the resources I need.
    Whatever you decide to do, you have my full support! God bless.

      I’m a former teacher, so I know what I was looking for in a school. I also know that when I was teaching, I bent over backwards for my students. I know there are a ton of good teachers out there. The ones my children have are very invested in them. My children get tons of individual attention from their teachers. That’s the exact reason I put them in school, because you’re right, kids do need individual attention. And they can’t get that with screaming toddlers and babies in the house and me trying to teach so many different grade levels within one day. However, in school, everyone goes through the same lesson at the same time. When my child doesn’t understand, the teacher comes over and helps them individually with that specific problem they are having.
      I think the proof is in the fruit. As I said, my children are doing better, academically, and socially than they ever were before. They are happier, more confident, and for the first time, they actually really love learning. I didn’t do that, their teachers did.
      And yes, I do know what is going on in my child’s school. You can find ways to be involved. It’s really not that difficult.
      I have no problem with homeschooling, but I do have a problem with homeschooling moms who can’t understand that it is possible for children to thrive and public schools. Not everyone is called a homeschool or even qualified to. There are definitely a lot of positive to homeschooling, but there are also a lot of negatives too. For us, the negatives outweigh the positive. We made a choice for our family, and my kids are doing great.

There is a great one in TN. For children with dyslexia and other LD. These types of schools are a last resort since they are more expensive because of the small classes and teachers know their students at the school. For me, public school was not working in my early years, so I had to go to specialized school for learning disabilities that had many dyslexic students. All my academic years 1-12th grade. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this episode. I have been so stressed about putting my youngest in public school because of alot of the Christian perspective towards public school.
    There is nothing wrong with putting your kid in public school. Yes to be aware of the agendas and beliefs they may push. But it is our Job as parents to teach them perspective and our beliefs. We as parents are their first teachers. But it is not our job to be everything for everyone. Not all of us parents are equipped or have the resources to do so. It’s so refreshing seeing your take. I stand with confidence in my decision.

    You might address this at some point in the series. /The person you are is exactly correct to parent the child you have. The Lord has not made a mistake in giving you that child. Even if it's to slow them down in some ways and to put you through learning and growth as well. That is a formula that works, trusting the Lord even when the world is saying that their method of measuring, teaching, coaching is better. Yes there are a lot of resources, but what you have as a parent is enough and if it flashes and sparkles and has a good sound system - that doesn't mean it's necessarily for God's people. If you can afford it it is the first and most important work you have besides ministering to your husband - I am blessed that I have never had to choose between things as far as where I dedicate my time. /I loved what you said about supporting Christian teachers. It's true that that is a place that needs prayer and support and I will include those men and women in my prayers. /The fire we carry will be spread when the Lord decides. Since we don't interact with lots of people I have prayed to have the opportunity to evangelize and the Lord was faithful. We don't even have a big pond and we have plenty to do. God bless you guys.

    I am aware that parents can not be everything to everyone (in the household) and that parents have limitations (just like kids), but that does not abscond parents of the responsibility of teaching children. Ultimately God assigned that work to parents. This can look different for each household, for example it could mean homeschool or public/private school, but actively being involved in what children are taught. If parents are not doing that, regardless of the schooling option, they are not doing what they are called to

    Hi! I’m so happy to hear about that kind of podcast for family! I’m from Argentina. Here, public schools not only have a low academic level but are also full of political and sexual indoctrination. Homeschooling here isn’t legal, but it isn’t exactly illegal either (it’s a legal loophole). The problem is that once you enroll your child in kindergarten, you can’t withdraw them from the system. Even if you pay for an umbrella school, teachers are required to report you, and you could face legal action. That’s why we are almost certain we will do homeschooling, because we need to decide before kindergarten (here it starts at age 4).
    Please explain more about how you do homeschooling, and maybe you could interview Aron and Sophia. Thanks!! pd: i practice english with your podcasts.

    I am a Muslim and yet, I can't tell you how much this conversation resonated with me. We have the same traditional values, I have the same fears for my kids, I too wish to return to a simpler/pre-modern society and am very skeptical about 'progress'. My oldest is in first grade, and recently, I have started exploring schooling options. This is literally all I think or talk about these days. May God guide us all to the best decision for our children.

    We could not homeschool our children, so we put them in a baptist church private school, that is not only affordable, but also gives them the biblical world view and values we would have given them. That option exists as well. But at the end, it does not reloeve parents from their responsability. We have to raise them, and give them the education they need.

    I can sympathize with this conversation. But these are all the same justifications that you hear from people that choose to put their kids in public school.
    The idea of pulling the family apart for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. That’s not for the benefit of the child. Especially the child under the age of accountability. It’s for the benefit of the parent.
    The way the public school system is set up to keep parents out of the education of their children is the issue.
    I think as time goes, the stain on public schools will continue. It will not hold as the correct decision and those that chose it will see the consequences of that choice. It’s a lot of justification at this point.
    I think look around and you can see the kind of people that the public school system is producing. Look around and see the division of the family. The set up is also the problem, not just the education. It’s also what they don’t teach. The children spend more time in a secular system. They don’t learn habits that will help them seek God in their daily lives.

      My children are thriving in public schools. We are close as a family, and their faith absolutely astounds me. Just because we spend a few hours apart a day, does not mean that we are not close. Are My husband and I not close because he has to go to work for eight hours a day? of course we are. I spend plenty of quality time with my children. They were doing so poor academically and socially until I put them in school. Now they are thriving in ways I never could imagine. They finally love learning! All the things that were supposed to happen with homeschooling, Loving learning and being more confident and us being close as a family, did not happen until I put them into public school. I’m not saying that homeschooling is bad, I’m saying that it’s not for everyone nor does it have to be.

      @@theresa.m. I stand pretty firm on the belief that children do not thrive in a public school system. I have seen too much in the public school system including my own experience growing up. I understand everyone has a different lifestyle, and homeschool doesn’t mean just at home for school. I was a straight A student and loved to learn and still do, but did not thrive in public school because as I found out later on in life, it’s also what you don’t learn in public school that matters. It’s the idea of a one track way of leaning, it’s a lot of waisted time most of all. There’s too much focus on the social aspects of a childhood in public school and there’s too much pent up energy these kids don’t get out enough. Might be why 1 in 4 boys are now on psychotropic drugs just to get through their day. I sympathize with your situation, but do not agree there’s any way under the state ran institutions that were created to produce institutionalized group thinking people will provide the best education for a person.

      I don’t think it is the public schools so much that are raising kids poorly but the parents. I was homeschooled all my life and have known many kids that have gone to private Christian schools and public schools as well. The main thing I see is the kids do better when parents are actively trying to form a good relationship with their kids, and when they are actively talking with them about life/faith/prayer etc. Although there is much benefit in homeschooling because you have more time with them, you don’t necessarily need to have every waking moment with your child to have a strong influence over them, you still will have 6-8 hours with them depending on their school day (in our case, they are in school 6hrs, so I have 8hrs with them). I believe you can still successfully delegate reading, math, writing, science to others and teach them many other valuable things about life and faith when they are not in school. The main thing is to be in dialogue with the teachers and with your kids about what they are learning. Are you going to know every single thing, no- but even if they are homeschooled, you are not going to know every single thing your kid is exposed to. I also think that it does depend on the school and the other families in the school as well, because the culture is formed by families. Incidentally, whether homeschooled, public or private Christian school the biggest thing I see that drives kids farthest away f rom their faith is parents who are too controlling and kids who don’t have a good relationship with their parents.

    • @jessienelson1932
      @jessienelson1932 3 месяца назад

      @@ceuser8144 that’s definitely the perspective that justifies sending your child off. But, my point is that when they are babies and not mature enough, that’s where I see sending them into these situations they are not ready for an issue. Then what I think our culture does bad, is because they aren’t prepared enough when they are little and taught the value of hard work, then it’s a failure to launch issue when they are of an age of accountability where they should be able to be light in the dark. Teenagers are struggling with their identity and their worth. That’s because they are lost from the time they were three of being sent off. I don’t like public school, but I do think if they have a better and more protected childhood then when they hit the preteen ages they are ready for what’s ahead in the world. That’s not being too controlling. That’s understanding Gods plan.

    • @ceuser8144
      @ceuser8144 3 месяца назад

      @@jessienelson1932I wanted to apologize, I didn’t mean to imply that I think it is controlling to want to homeschool your kids when they are young. I actually think that is a wonderful blessing if you are able to. I did until oldest was 7 and don’t regret it at all (and have kept all my babies at home while toddlers). I just meant to make the point that I think it most important to make sure we are forming healthy bonds with are kids and not overly controlling because I have seen that as a bigger issue with families versus where they go to school. I guess I don’t see school aged children as babies and I think you are wrong that all public schools are exposing them in harmful ways from the time they are young. From what I have seen, it is in middle school and high school that the most issues happen and so yes, we need to form them from the time they are young in the ways of the Lord, but I disagree that that is impossible to do when they are attending school as well. My main issue with discussing this with you is that while I believe homeschooling is the ideal, it is not always in the kids or parents best interest or always possible. I, like this couple, was very fearful of sending my kids to public school,but thankfully we are in a wonderful school district with wonderful teachers who really do care about the kids and are helping them to grow and learn, and it is a huge burden lifted from me so I can focus my time with them on learning faith, forming bonds and life skills. I had a huge amount of fear going into public school that I had to overcome. People paint this horrible picture of what will happen to your kids if they go into public school - which while it can be justified and does in fact happen to many kids - it is just not always the case and I think an example of black and white thinking. For many many kids, school can also be a safe place to grow and thrive. This couple has experienced this with their child, I have and so have many others and it hurts to think that some kids and parents are not getting the help they need because of this idea that under no circumstances is school ever a good and safe place for kids in many peoples minds.

      3) God Bless you and Good Night books one Amazon
      4) Saying a simple prayer daily for your kid ( I repeat the same 4 lines)

    Jimmy Evans was saying the other day that 66% of kids that grew up in churches leave their faith in college. There are many reasons but one of them is that they are not prepared. They live protected in homeschool and have no clue how it is out there. I was a high school teacher for two years in a public school. The principal was a Christian, many teachers were Christian, and I had students all the time saying, "God bless you". Many home school businesses try to demonize public schools because they have a business, and they want to profit. Public school is for real Christians. People that share the Gospel are not afraid. Public schools are the battleground. Some of the best Christians I know, went to public schools, some in very bad neighborhoods. Nothing wrong with public schools. The cowards in churches are the real problem.

    • @niesia412

      You'll actually be surprised how many people leave the church in college that never was homeschooled. I'm speaking from what I observed when I went to college (as a millennial) and worked in campus ministry at a public university (with gen z's).
      The issue is that most people who fall away don't have a real relationship with Jesus. They just went to church! They never understood who He really was or what the bible says about real life issues.

    I live in a very conservative area, but I found out that a nonprofit from New York, states away, has been coming in since 12 years ago and using their workers from PFlag to influence faculty and school board at optional meetings where together they would chant things like, “Being gay is good” and “gay doesn’t change.” Large amount of people attended the meetings from teachers to School Board and multiple transgendered individuals aged 9 - 69. If you understand nonprofits, you’d understand, they should not have been doing some of what they did such as telling people who to vote for, and who not to vote for while they used a Nonprofit status and talked from the local public library if the main topics being teaching and supporting LGBT+ in classes and who to support/not support in politics, which nonprofits are not to be used for political campaigning or the pushing of one belief system over others. Then there was the stuff that wasn’t illegal, but extremely concerning such as them saying that they work very hard to make sure that every school in my area starting in kindergarten make sure that several books are read to the kindergartners regarding sexuality with diversity of sexuality and the children learning identity has options. They also said to make sure that you affirm the child but never tell the parents you’re affirming the child based on what they said or what bathroom they use, this is what people from this organization were teaching in my conservative area states away and making teachers and school boards and literally thousands of children were directly or indirectly exposed the ideology first hand or second hand. These teachers and School Board and parents were led to believe, incorrectly, Pflags meeting way is the right way to do things legally. They also said the reason why you have to affirm children and tell children to keep it a secret, and this is misinformation as to why that they gave out, is because otherwise the parents “will” abuse them. It wasn’t “might” abuse it was “will” abuse them. Basically there was supposed to be an encouragement of secrecy with people misled into believing they would protect lives by encouraging secrecy. Some of the other misinformation, they of course pushed was about transitioning and how it was suicide prevention when statistically that’s not the case, statistically that’s a complete lie, even using their own data from Trevor Project. The biggest Takeaway from attending that meeting wasn’t that these meetings were taking place in my community for 12 years without anyone knowing it (The one I went to had at least 60 or 70 people) it was that there was a hopelessness because even gay people longed in that open to the public meeting on wanting biological kids and not being gay, but that’s when they started chanting it’s good and won’t change. Gay used to mean happy by definition, but there was so much depression in that room, and they even talked about how the parade made them feel a little better, but that’s why they’re pushing so hard to get kids to believe that those who have detransition because of Jesus and family are the enemy, I’m not even kidding that was brought up more than once because they don’t find their identity in Jesus, they find it in being gay and those who say the opposite of their chants make them scared even though they have the hope that they self admitted they want to be straight but believe it’s not possible and what to get everyone, starting in kindergarten, to believe it’s not possible even when it doesn’t lineup with the truth. And it is the truth that people change even from a scientific study level, even though these studies have been ignored, related to mri and this topic and the studies that used to be done that showed gay does change. From a spiritual perspective, we all know people that have changed even in this way after Jesus, changed them to the truest form of themselves, according to Romans 1 once they no longer wanted to be given over to it and humbled to the spiritual help that actually finally gave them the joy of Jesus instead of the lies of this world regarding g a y as pushed and trained like an ism when isms (beliefs) are not to be taught or pushed in schools by teachers as facts and the pride religion, and after going to one of their meetings that was more indoctrinating on beliefs than any church service I went to their is a religion of pride pushed in public schools so public school or homeschool show upto these meetings to know what’s going on at least and maybe to also question or speak up in love and concern. Some of the people at this meeting just confessed stuff, stuff that probably would have gotten them fired for g r o o m ing or at least inappropriate exposure and sexual conversations with minors if the misuse of nonprofit, political, pushing, wasn’t enough. I would not be opposed to cameras in classrooms only reviewed if the kids said something happened. The problem is whether your child is homeschooled and simply going to the library programs, Sunday school, or watching RUclips or in public school, non-Christian sports clubs. You need to talk to your kids because they are being talked to. They’re being talked to in such ways that you’ve been made out to be the hateful bad guy. If you don’t support the stuff I heard them say is depressing them and they attend theses more religious than church services meetings where they chant their mantras and push beliefs not facts with use of our tax dollars being used to push there favored political candidates, which last time I checked, that’s enough to have them lose their nonprofit status and the portions of libraries they used to do to have to pay taxes when they do this if they’re going to let those organizations.

      In no way am I giving legal or tax advice obviously, I’m just referencing. I don’t know how they are legally doing what they’re doing when I know for a fact, I’ve been told this stuff you can do talking to other things. But I will add to always look into your local states laws in regard to what is and isn’t available to homeschoolers and how to legally do that. Not all states or countries are going to have the same information, options, or resources she’s giving.

    As a starting point, parents need to understand the real purpose of school. The main purpose of Elementary School is to learn to love to learn.
