100% Prioritizing the The Word of God is THE thing to do for it is a double edged sword - quick and alive, active and powerful, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joint and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart 🙏. Spot on.

Hi! Do you have any practical tips on how to stop idolizing marriage and focus on God? (doesn't help that I am a junior at a Christian college where everyone seems to be getting engaged now haha) I have received multiple visions from God about my future marriage in the last few months, mostly just promising that it will happen. But I feel like I idolize it and think about it too much. I definitely pray a lot about it and pray for God's perfect timing, but I am just having a hard time with focusing on it too much. I don't think I elevate it above God because I am willing to say no to relationships that aren't from Him, but I just feel like I am fixating on it too much that it is kind of painful. I have a hard time looking around thinking is "he my husband? could it be him?" haha I just want to not fixate on it so much

I would try just being more present day to day and being more thankful to God for what you have now! Also you can try making a bucket list of fun things you want to do with friends before you get married and be prayerful about how God wants to use you in this time of singleness now as well :)

I love that you’re prioritizing this! Just went through this last month. Had been fixated on marriage for the past year due to my environment and social circles. About a month or so ago I felt like God wanted me to take off the rest of the year from “talking” or dating. Over time, I noticed that there were more opportunities I would have to seek Him. Ultimately it led me to realize that our real life is not here on earth and that eternal life is far more valuable. Further came to realize that the whole purpose of marriage is to glorify our Father in Heaven and become more like Christ while on earth a short period of time. The more time I spent time in the Word alone, the closer I felt to Christ and the less marriage mattered to me. In the process, I feel like without me realizing it I had been changing to become more ready for marriage, and even more importantly, more like Christ. Hope this helps!

      1 Chronicles 16:11 KJV
"Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually."
I always meditate on the verse above to remind myself to constantly seek after God and his will for my life(Romans 12:1-2). Praying without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17), means to constantly meditate on the Word of God(Joshua 1:8) and to follow the Lord's voice(Holy Spirit) according to scripture(Proverbs 3:5-6). Which means if you aren't in prayer with Jesus(Psalm 105:4), then take that thought captive to the obedience of Christ(2 Corinthians 10:5-6). Basically, set your mind on heavenly things(spiritual) and not on earthly things(carnal) because the earth is temporal, and heaven is eternal(2 Corinthians 4:18).
      Colossians 3:1-3 KJV
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God."

I think when knowing we are idolizing something we have to realize we are viewing it in a way it was not intended to be viewed. In order to stop viewing it one way you must adopt another way of looking at it that honors it without placing it above your allegiance to God. Personally, i asked myself why I really wanted it. Be realistic, why is the thought of a partner & family so important to you that it causes idolization? What would it give you that you feel lacking in. Iv heard people talk about their depression of not finding someone and being envious of others that do, but in their language they dont even respect themselves, they dont value themselves as God sees them; many hold this belief that the other person will fix this negative outlook they hold but they wont. Sometimes we idolize a false idea of what we think this partnership is and will bring, and because if that we become ill-prepared to actually handle what we are asking for. Marriage & family is self-sacrifice, the request is one of a vocation and the fuel of that vocation is faith in God and sacrificial love to others above yourself, its a high call but we only think about the romance side of it.
