@@ChadsPrep hi I was wondering if u have someone for tutor my daughter she is in college taking chemistry 100 and chemistry 102 she needs help asap if u can recommend someone who can do thru zoom would be greatly appreciated!!!! Tysm
Thanks Chad! You’re honestly one of the best ochem channel out here on RUclips. Have watched literally every single video of yours and it’s honestly saving my grade and have only understood from your videos. Keeping doing what you do :)
You've literally saved my grade, what took my professor 96 slides to teach us (and I did not understand most of it) took you an hour and a half. Also your voice is very soothing ! Makes this even easier to watch, thankyou so much
Thank you again. These Alkene videos are extremely useful and relevant. At least 4 of the 8 examples our professor gave us are the same that you've explained, and clarified!
Thanks so much for putting this out there and especially for making it free!! I'm studying for the MCAT and have found your videos to be some of the most helpful and clear out of any others I've tried in all of Physics, Ochem and Gen Chem
we're gonna be taking our 3rd Orchem (I) exam 3 in three days and all the stuff that I'd not comprehend based on the way that my professor teaches us are now beginning to make a great deal of sense cause to be honest with u Chad I was so lost and space out but now I'm getting a hang of it and it is all due to ur excellent and clear explanation of ur videos and I wish that I've known of u sooner but as the saying goes "it is better to be late than never " and I intend to make use of ur videos for the next two days before my exam Sincerely Precious
Thanks! I was once the only native English speaker in a lab of all Russians. My adviser approached me one day and began speaking in Russian. After about 20s he caught himself and stopped. After a pause he said "You need to learn Russian." He then walked off and never did tell me in English what he had earlier been trying to tell me. Happy Studying!
For the oxymercuration, in the intermediate step why don’t the electrons from the H2O go on the mercury cation instead of the carbons with the partial positive charge
Hey Kristyn! Great question - if we look at the resonance structures of the Mercurinium ion the positive charge from Mercury atom is shared between 3 atoms - mercury, and the two carbons. The positive charge is found more often on the more substituted carbon (as a temporary carbocation) than anywhere else and this is why the nucleophile attacks here. Hope that helps!
Hi! For oxymercuration-demercuration, I thought an OAc ion deprotonated the water off, but you have another water molecule coming along to do that. Which is preferred? Btw, your videos are the absolute best for o chem!
Hello Shanna! From a quick perusal of the literature I'm seeing acetate used as well which makes sense as it is a stronger base than water. I'll go back and do a little more digging though in several textbooks to see where I came up with this as I've been teaching it that way for over a decade. But I've been wrong before and I'm sure not for the last time. Happy studying!
My friend recommended this video to everyone in class and it's genuinely one of the best videos out there. You literally saved my grade
