Day 5 of asking Rishab. Can you make a video on your personal step by step journey to ISEF finals. Like when you started your project and how you went through your local affiliated fairs. (School, regional, state and nationals) 👇
Glad you posted this. Students are freaking out about trying to get research as teenagers and paying a ton of money for it. These orgs are soooo scammy.
Thank you Rishab for making this! I'm an international student in my junior year and have been urged by my school and parents to do so-called fake research since 9th grade. I did not end up doing any of those because as a chemistry concentrator, online chemistry research with a guaranteed publication just sounded absurd! After doing several independent work in a lab, I plan to apply for research programs this summer. This channel DESERVES MORE ATTENTION!!!
It's kind of funny but the best of the best things in education are often free and the scammiest ones are the paid ones. Case in point: RSI - free Super expensive "get published program" - paid MIT OCW - free Scam(y) courses - "Get one for the low low price of 500$" There are definitely good paid programs too but I bet this will be a null set: Bad Programs ∩ Free Programs
In addition, college actually frown upon the fact of paying money for these program BECAUSE of the fact that you had to pay money. So in reality, it's not even beneficial to do these programs if you're trying to get something on your college application.
In the second half of this video, I give you "Research 101" my 3-part framework to doing research in high school. i’m doing research full time right now (after high school) while most of my friends had fun this summer so hopefully that part is clear, that i actually care about research 🙏
Hello Rishab. I think you should consider adding UCSB's Research Mentorship Program to the list. It has a cohort of 75, about 15 of which end up at Stanford, and the rest go to other top schools. The acceptance rate is around 3-5%, and the projects are all ongoing research that is being conducted at the labs. Not sure what you think of the program, would love to hear your thoughts!
Looking at all these videos I’m really worried that Ivy Leagues and other universities are only interested in STEM students with research projects under their belt. But my field of interest is English, especially Literature and Debate yet I see no helpful videos for those. I am completely clueless on how to hone my skills, good summer programs, competitions, or prestigious magazines. Do you have any idea about this?
I heard that english majors in my school joined the following: school newspaper, writing scholarships, becoming youth journalists. Be yourself, present your passions for literature. Join debate clubs, competitions. Library writing competitions. idk much but i wish you the very best.
Any tips on doing independent research based on a survey? Will it be more difficult to publish in an actual journal because it is not physical research?
Hi Rishab! Can you make a video about competitions/researsh opportunities/extracurriculars for gap year students? None of the youtubers have posted videos about this content, so I think it will be informative and interesting to watch about it
I'd just like to point out that Haley Chu (a youtuber pictured in the video), actually did not cite journals that are predatory. For example Emerging Investigators charges no fees and the reviews from there were actually very positive.
I'll share my point of view as well. I applied to one of these programs with 100% financial aid and got a really good mentor. Has a 4.0 GPA and has numerous papers published in IEEE. I am from a 3rd world country where such kind of mentorships/programs are non-existent in universities. University professors really don't care about high school students at all, unless you have some sort of leverage through contacts, or pay a hefty amount etc. And even if you do get an opportunity, they put you in low tier research projects.
Hey rishab brother can you make a video how to remember what you read from reading texts or stuff because after reading a book or something I don’t remember? Please a make a video on this brother you make very good videos I appreciate you like Preaching P
Hi Rishab, I really loved your Stem Competitions and Scholarships Guide. Is there any other way you can make one for summer programs? For Middle School (8th) and Highschool?
Zenith isn’t a Research program but would like a counselor be legit like example zenith counseling their prices are high but I find no evidence of it being bad
Hi i live in iran and i want to participate in one of competitions, you know i wanna go to MIT but i'm literally into scienece and inventing new things. But i don't know which of these competitions i can register to, so can you help me?
My school doesnt either! I would talk to my Highschool office. I did too it was very beneficial because I started a club to increase enthusiasm for science fair in my school.
Hi Rishabh, if I email professors now do you think they will accept my request or would they usually have too much work at this time? Also I want to do research on Physics, especially finding Dark Matter by searching for Axions. If I don't get a research internship now, could I do this as an Independent Research Project? Would it be feasable because I only have a computer and not that many resources?
@@AprilleonMosarch Axions are theorized particles that are candidates for dark matter. There are many experiments searching for these particles using high magnetic fields, but none have been found yet. They are theorized to have speacial properties like they can turn into photons and turn back into axions, which could be a reason why it's difficult to detect them. It's pretty interesting!
@@AprilleonMosarch I'm trying to contact certain professors who are working on these projects, but if that doesn't work out I might try to look for data sets and figure somtheing out.

Weeks for a high value research paper. Really. I don’t think so. These are just kids with good connections. Live in a town an hour from the nearest community college, good luck. Umm heyy, idk if you’ll answer but here goes, i recently have gained an interest in researching, i have a particular field in mind too and i have made it a goal of mine to publish something well worth publishing. I’ve watched a few videos of yours and i’m a little confused so i would love it if you took your time to clear some if these confusions. First i’ve noticed that your against high school journals bcz according to you their peer review is not rigourous enough and most of them are scams. So i would like to know does this go for some well known high school journals too like The Concord Review or The Columbia Junior Science journal. Second how exactly do you publish in a graduate level journal like are you just supposed to randomly seach up a list of graduate level journals and submit your paper to be reviewed or do you have to have a mentor that will submit on your behalf or do you have to be part of a bigger project and assist someone so you can get the credit of being co author. Like how did you do it. Were you a co-author in the papers you published or did you write them yourself completely and submitted them yourself. Third how do you even choose a journal like how am i supposed to know which one i should be submitting in?
I agree for the most part, however some of the programs that you've listed actually have really good mentors that are actual published researchers at top unis such as postdocs or even professors.

how did you write those papers in highschool? where do people find the knowledge to just understand what to do and all of these complicated things AS A HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN, im so lost i cant do this anymore, its too late for me to even attempt these complicated things i don't know about as a late junior anyways, im bound to go to a local state school
