I cut this video aggressively to try to keep it on the shorter side. If you like this version or prefer more long-winded, detailed explanations let me know. I'll be away this weekend, but I intend to get these videos out on a regular basis. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.
So regarding what you said about bringing crew to crew recovered ships. Actually, I believe mothballing them is better. Mothballing doesn't reduce your fleet's CR - as we both know, but it could be understood differently in the vid - and more importantly, doesn't drain your supplies to be brought into shape. The only reason to not mothball ships are using their ship system when disengaging from combat - burn drive for example, cos a mothballed onslaught/... is NEVER going to make it-, to use their cargo space (which almost never applies to recovered combat ships) or to use the hyperwarp drive or similar abilities from mods. Bottom line for new players: mothball ships you find. Bring enough crew to survey the planets. 400 are usually enough for 95% of planets, and gas giants suck anyways.
brain's empty from work clicked on this thinking GT was branching out into Terra Invicta hey lol thats crazy this char gen screen looks just like Starsector hey ok that ship screen is DEFINITELY Starsector... but the video title... Maybe he uploaded the wrong file......no this is just a Starsector video .... damn I kinda miss playing Starsector Starsector rules...

I personally much prefer longer videos, just front loaded with the more important info.
I'm curious about your other ship's loadout, I don't mind longer videos either, but its nice if you can add chapters.
This was really helpfull! thank you! Its rare too see recent starsecter info that is dense but informative format!
Hull restoration also gives 15% CR which is huge.
6:50 You can spin the planet with the mouse?!
oh yeah. right click and hold the mouse to spin the planet. I guess I should have mentioned that 😂

I aim for 1k crew, it a significant expense, but between fighting and recovering ships I never have to worry about crewing issues.

There's no mods, that's just vanilla scrolling.
