- In this video, we will debunk the myth that you need thousands of dollars to travel the world. In 2019, I’ve taken 35+ flights around the world. It is my hope that I can share some of the strategies and tips that I have learned when it comes to saving money while traveling.

The most expensive part of travel for me is the time I have to take off work and don't get paid for 🙃
True, being able to earn while traveling is the key to cheap sustainable travel
PTO?
try to delay that gratification for a few years to even decades if necessary. and use the money instead to build a nest egg of PASSIVE income and you'll be free to travel for years on end
CHICCAFNT absolutely! And that's actually exactly what I preach on my Channel!
@@CHICCAFNT Passive income as in dividend stocks or rental property or something else?
I've never couch surfed. I keep thinking I'll end up dead in someone's freezer.

You watch too many episodes of Criminal Minds...lol
@@naturistfred you don't watch enough
Bro, Philly to Vegas for only $15, that’s like the cost of a Philly cheesteak!
I know :)
Zachary Laid Finding Freedom if u look it costs 36$ for a carryon thats why its so cheap
I love that comparison 😂
Best tip: make an income while you travel. Last year spent 2 months traveling Europe and came back with more money than I left thanks to an IG business. If your income is remote you can travel full time rather than once or twice a year for a week. Cool seeing more cinematic content! Awesome video
Josh Ryan two weeks of holidays? I’m Europe we get 4 weeks paid holiday by law 😂😂
@@HomebaseLHR Thats nice! Europe looks after their people way better than the US for sure. I think its similar here in New Zealand but not sure. Either way, Id prefer be able to travel for 2 months or a full year
What do you do man? Would love to know :)
@@JPFifaHD Instagram mate. I have an agency working with clients and then a few pages myself and side gigs
@@Kevvyn- but what if by giving your workers 4 weeks paid holiday per year they become happier, more productive and more profitable on the 48 weeks they do work. Maybe they increase profit considerably more than the cost. Im not sure on the stats tho, just playing devils advocate
That's awesome. When you're young and before you have a family this the way to go. Living it up.
Thanks!
you can still do this with one

See how it says 38-42$ for a carryon bag and 36-42$ for the first checked bag?
Thats how they get you
Big John True, but many people are able to pack a backpack with all their needs. I personally have traveled to Europe and Asia for weeks with a single standard sized backpack. I even had a foam roller in there for my back pain. Backpacks are almost always free on budget flights and less clutter for “backpacking” to different cities. I prefer traveling when it’s warm so summer clothing is easier to pack.
@@johnnypolex as a woman I don't see how that's possible. We love to over pack lol
Faith Kings haha check out Sorelle Amore! She does a lot of low budget solo travel vids
Faith Kings I do it all the time. I can’t stand having too much stuff while traveling and most things you can just purchase when you get to your destination 😊
dam I hope not all flights are like that
One tip: just because a flight says 100$ round trip doesn’t mean that’s all it will cost. Many airlines charge expensive fees for carry-ons and bag checks. So the total could actually be an additional 200$ more even though the plane ticket was only a given amount. This was mentioned near the end of the video but I just wanted to clarify and explain a little. Hope this helps, keep it up ❤️👍
Eating at a local restaurant or saving on hotels so you can do more is just as fun for travelers as the "luxury" experiences! The more you spend, often you just end up buying a steak and a night at the Westin hotel...

Another tip to keep in mind this month. Last year, I wanted to go to Sweden but tickets were on average $900-$1300 round trip. HOWEVER, I pulled up ticket prices within a few days after Thanksgiving and prices were $300-$600. If you're planning a trip for early 2020, maybe take a look on the Monday/Tuesday after Thanksgiving and see if you get similar results!

@@NateOBrien thanks for the video! I just started planning a trip to the UK and am gonna have to put some of these ideas into practice :)
true I got flight multi long hsul about half of what it cost this year but think from UK flights are up this last year due to air tax and lack of cheap airlines
Welp this didn’t age well with the 2020 and travelling hahaha
Thanks for the video i ll keep these information in my next trip
To see someone my age doing things like this is a blessing.

In September my husband and I (we are in our early 60’s) spent 2 weeks traveling in Perú. We stayed at places called hostels; however all of these had some rooms with a private bathroom. We paid $30-$40/night, but the communal spots were $15-$20/night. We had wonderful conversations and met great people. Much more interesting than the vanilla-plain chain hotels!
As I have mentioned in other videos, I actually prefer staying in hostels and meeting great people! Hotels are so boring. Peru sounds so nice!
RIP
That b-roll footage is next level!
Thanks Justin
Totally agree. The editing is remarkable Nate.
$15 dollar flight?!? I’ve looked all over the internet and can’t find anything under $70
If you pay attention is 30 round trip plus it said around 30 for carry on, so is at least 60$ with a backpack now if you decide to carry luggage is like any other flights
Google flights
type in google flights brah - cheapest flight in randomly saw was $23 to Dallas- look brah
Re making friends in hostels, three years ago I was staying in a hostel in Copenhagen and got chatting to a lady sharing my room, we're now best friends and she lets me stay in her flat in Copenhagen for free :)
What hostel did you stay at? I may be travelling to Copenhagen later this year so I've been looking for recommendations!

I just found your channel by accident. I save money for 6month, then go to SE Asia and volunteer for 6 months. I’ve been doing this for the last 7 years. Now I’m in Vietnam living on $5/day and loving it!!! This is my kind of video, subscribed!!!
Just a tip with both Frontier AND Spirit: buy a bag specifically for them. They're very specific about one carry on item only. You can avoid $17.99 each way by booking at the airport usually (your frontier fare seems to have had the "passenger facility fee" already removed).
Yo Nate, it's the guy from the capsule hotel, Mike. It was good chatting with you. Glad to see you took some of those shots that Rey got when he and I went walking that one night.

I really enjoy this video! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks on saving to travel to different places. 😊
Wow your quality has been going thru the roof Nate!!! Beautiful job
I travel a lot with my family and everything said in this video is great advice but there are a few other things that should be said/emphasized:
1. Carry on luggage will sometimes have a weight limit but besides that, it is significantly cheaper and more convenient than checked luggage
2. Book flights (especially across seas) as early as possible not just a few weeks. A flight from California to Paris with a week notice can be close to $1000 whereas 5 months notice is about $400
3. If you're staying in a spot for a few days go to a store and buy oatmeal, ramen, ect. Like the vending machine in the video, it will be much cheaper than buying full cooked meals
4. Rather than load up on souvenirs, find a specific thing you want to collect on trips. Personally, I really love getting a small sticker to put on my suitcase. They're cheap and take up no space.
5. Understand the monetary conversion for the country you're going to. Many places that attract tourism can overcharge for a lot of things. By having a good understanding of the country's money in comparison to your country's money you can better judge if an item is worth the cost.
Really eye opening- thanks Nate! Taking my mom on a trip in March so this is really helpful
Great video! Japan looks great. Something I've learned when looking up/comparing flights is to do it in a private browser. Websites often track your search history and bump up flight prices!
This is a really great and helpful video. This dude just gave me a lot of things to think about before starting to travel. Thanks mate
Dude your videos just keep getting better. Nice work.

I am new to your videos, and I found this one very educational. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Keep up the great videos.
The filmmaker of the video must have been using vintage lenses because the image was very nice, soft and had those glowy bokeh characteristics of a vintage lens
I love the look so keep it up!
Just saw this video (new subscriber). I am in love with Japan. I went backpacking around there in April 2018 and took my husband and two teenagers there in September/October 2019. It is an incredible place and my plan is to live there. Thanks for sharing your experience with cheap travel.
That Pod hotel looks pretty cool. Here is a pretty cool travel tip i learned from my high school math teacher. See if you can make arraignments with the place that you are staying at and have your luggage shipped there. Some shipping companies will have a round trip shipping option for one set shipping price back and fourth. It sometimes cost a few extra buck but it avoids the hassle of carrying luggage.
Another good one Nate; Safe Travels Buddy 👍
Nate your videos are just the best honestly I aspire to be like you
That's awesome. I and my team are working on some traveling documentaries. We will upload them soon. Traveling is really fun. Thanks for the tips in this video.

One of the best videos ever.
Yes!! So happy you're experiencing Japan!!
It was wonderful!
Nate, I enjoy watching your videos because you seem to have a mature perspective on many topics for someone your age. However, your ideas about economizing on food are off the mark. You believe in spending a decent amount on health insurance but not in practicing prevention by giving your body the fuel it needs. Please run some tests to learn what your overall health status is with an integrative or holistic medical practitioner, and I think you’ll find that you have some marked nutritional deficiencies. In one of your recent videos (I think perhaps one on saving on food), I saw dark circles under your eyes (a sign of liver toxicity - especially in someone your age). I wish you much success and a healthy and long life as you seek to financially empower the lives of others. May God richly bless you!
Thanks Nate! I know we might have been bugging you about making this video, but you had some great tips. I'll definitely be using some of these when I start traveling in 2020.
Thanks for watching Laura, do some traveling when you have time off in the summer
hey, Nate I really enjoy your videos!! You should do a video talking about finances and currency exchange while traveling and other things you may not think of while traveling from country to country

Thanks for this vid Nate. I have plans for 4 countries next year and you outlined a bit of what I have to research. 2020 Is going to be a fun ride.
Hey! I am just curious considering what ended up happening in 2020. Were you able to travel and did it work out well even with the covid stuff or no?
@@jaycelomax7202 Well as you might be able to tell... It didn't turn out as expected.😂
But to keep a long story short I ended I'm doing a lot more traveling in 2021 and in the Years following. On top of that, My business ended up taking me a lot more places than I expected. 2020 was a great year to hunker down and figure out the plans for what was coming next after the pandemic.
Video editing is one a high level , good job !

Great video! Another thing to consider is when to book your flights. I used Google Flights and got a round trip from the States to Amsterdam for $500 during the first week of January! I purchased my tickets in September; now that same week, a couple months later is at least double.
McKay bought mine in September too, traveling to Hamburg on january got the ticket for $517
I’d love to have this mindset around travel. Would love this it’s just doing that first trip on your own. Then I think it would just come naturally. Great vid
I agree with you, once you go out and experience it, you won't be able to stop.
