I'm considering buying my first caravan i fancied the fixed bed layout of the bailey or the swift. I'm stuck at < 6.5M in length. But I have now been forewarned. Love your channel. Thanks.
Hi Jonathan I'm new to your channel..loving it so far .. iv got a swift sprite alpine 2 ..2020 model .. I love it.. I don't hear many swift having damp issues. All yours are baileys lol
What's the best sealer to reseal your awning rails and roof rails. And would you need to take of the rails and seal it or would you just seal around the outside of the rail
Very interesting and informative video, easy to see damp at times but at other times, not so easy. Any 6 berths, good, approx 2010 to 2012 or 2013, damp free, single axle for sale?!
Being wary is good... Do the appropriate damp checks and you might find a lovely caravan. We aren't making them to put people off, just educate them so they know what they're buying. We were offered another one of these last week and indiana and sure enough it had damp in 3 corners, and it was a year older than the guy had said, and it had had accident damage covered up with stickers and the guy was expecting 6k for it and its retail price would have been 7.5k if if looked around at simar and bought his without doing appropriate checks when I viewed it. There's lots of dodgy vans out there you just got to know what to look for, hence why we're making these videos :)
Great video. In Australia bailey are fairly rare but I really like the layout and weight advantage. If you want a shower you need to buy a 22 footer and heavy. So yesterday I purchase a Bailey Pageant 2008 on E. bay. I knew the risks and the whole fron wall is rottne and the fron of the van is not holding down onto the chassis. I got the van at a bargain so I'm not to concerned as I can fix it myself. I don't know if Bailey is aware of the chassis design fault. Normally a caravan chassis is totally supporting the caravan, but with a Bailey the chassis is tall and drilled to make it light, but there is no cross bracing So the chassis is allowed to twist on the angled part under the floor where it's bolted. When I picked it up the whole front wall moved up and down byt 10 inches. Scary shit. I strapped it down and got it home. I'm guessing that the water is coming in at the strip above the windows and the seals. Thanks to your videos I'm not to worried strengthening the lot and I'll still have a great van. Where the roof joints are I'm going to use roof vinyl and cover the lot and go over the edge.
what caravan would you recommend? I'm a first time buyer for a caravan and have been looking true loads of videos on RUclips for different styles before I go for one and all I keep seeing is problems with them I havent seen a video where there is zero problems with a make of caravan.. your honest in your videos which I really appreciate an I guess there's probably not one make that doesn't have problems from what ive seen but in your experience which one has the least problems in the long run.. ive had a cramper van and know all about damp an how much it costs to fix so I've decided to go for a caravan next..
Do you know how to safely remove the headboard from the wall in a 2004 Bailey Pageant Vendee please? We want to recover it but not sure how to get it off!
Bolting a sheet of ply wood to the Alko chassis without any cross section rigidity in the floor and the main body of the caravan is a serious design fault. I had a Bailey when they first started using polystyrene filed body panels there was no structural strength in the main box whatsoever. From the hinge edge of the stable door to the outer edge the split line opened 3/4 of an inch wide because the body wall was bowed outwards after having put the corner steadies down and that was on level ground, the steadies had no tension on them at all.
That's a great video of showing how damp and seeing the damage what water ingress can do. If I've found the cause of where the water was getting in and the area isn't too large, will the damp dry out in time behind the plastic wallpaper?
hi there, thanks for the comment. Yes if it's not too big an area and you stop the water getting in it can only dry out from there. It can take years though as the moisture is trapped in the wall.
hi I have a Bailey pagent with bad damp to the side wall from looks like the strap on the front is leaking. Will insurance pay out of o have no service history on the van do you know.
All UK caravans suffer with water ingress issues currently. Probably coachman suffer the least. There's also Adria available in the uk which is known to be good in this department.
Swift are probably the leaders in the UK manufacturers as they don’t use wood other than the inside top of the floor. They however have many other build quality issues !
Thanks for this video. This is so enlightening. I’m new to caravan’s and this sort of stuff is really educational
Thank you that's encouraging
Definitely a good video very interesting to see the damage caused and what to look for thanks.
Keep Going do not stop you are doing Good Videos.
Thank you , very helpful information.
Good videos mate. Very informative

Hi thanks for comment. Sorry we don't have anything like that at the moment sadly. Will let you know if something comes in.
Thanks for posting. I have a senator Wyoming 2002 and it’s a very dry van. I’m guessing the older ones are better in that regard.
i guess Im kinda off topic but does anyone know a good place to watch new tv shows online?
@Hayes Abdullah flixportal
@Ezekiel Franklin thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it !!
@Hayes Abdullah no problem :D
These videos are really making us wary of buying a caravan. Especially a Bailey. Shame I really like the Arizona vans.

@@caravansource90 shame you're so far away
@@caravansource90 Way to go my friend ,you have made me think before living in a wet mouldy caravans.
Baileys seem very prone to faults including damp ingress
Great video. Would love to know how much you managed to knock off 🙈😂

Hope you dont fall sick living in such damp mouldy thing no matter how cheap it was.

I would not touch a baileys as they seem to have problems

Is it possible to get replacement wallboards?

Do you know how to take the upper cupboards

Are European /German caravans less susceptible to water ingress ? I'm looking at getting a Hobby or Adria.
Adria or Hobby are better made. We have an old Adria with none of those damp issues whatsoever
Is it worth while re-sealing that roof strip even if its not leaking ? and hopefully prevent future leaks.
Yeah. Always keep an eye on condition of sealant on them
Dose is matter what model u have will u still get damp coz its old
Is a good quality caravan cover a good idea? I have a 2017 Sterling Eccles 560.
Damp problems seem to be rare in Adria or Hobby models.
They're German vans so maybe a lesson there?
Is it true, that all caravans have some damp?
I have damp in the window s water is coming in lot
More videos pls 😉😉👌👌
I’m almost scared to watch this, as we bought our first Bailey last July.
Usually had Swifts in the passed
Keep an eye on the corners underneath the van (constantly damp or if easy to press in with your fingers) and the roof strap leaking down inner walls
What brand of uk caravans has the least damp issues ?

More terrible construction techniques and super hard to take the cupboards out to do repairs
Man, why youre wasting my time - its about first 4 min?
