Why you need an EDC flashlight and tips for buying

- A flashlight belongs in your every day carry. This statement often gets me some very weird looks. Replies people give usually follow along the lines of “Why would I carry a flashlight?” and “I'll just use my phone.” Hopefully this will address these questions and help you understand why you should include a flashlight as part of your EDC.

My barber once asked me why do I carry a flashlight? I told him "I have lived through three major power outages where the entire city of New York has been totally blacked out!!!!" I asked him "Is that not enough??? It is very easy to find oneself in need of a flash light. I once found myself looking into blacked out parking lot coming out of a doctor's appointment! I also do not want to drain my phone's precious battery power while using it as a flashlight in an emergency situation!

I EDC sofirn sp10 ver 2. So small and light, easy to carry it all the time
I carry the Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA just as you do. Great light. However, I wouldn't mind carrying a 500+ lumen torch. I think the more lumens the better when in a dynamic critical incident.
Lyle Caudill most of the smaller 500 lumens lights I’ve played with don’t have a great candela rating so they don’t reach out too far just light up the immediate area.

I have a few but my old Coast light, even though not the brightest is built the best.
As seen on T.V. type Tac light or called Atomic beam. Known as a T6. Pick it up on Ebay or the Wish app. A good one off the Wish app is the Wissblue, 6 modes, around $35.00 USD.
I carry a Surefire Peacekeeper. It uses rechargeable 18650 batteries and throws 500 lumens. I love the beam it has and like that I am not always buying expensive batteries for it. I find that carrying a flashlight is more indispensable that carrying almost anything else.

Do you have any recommendations for a good flashlight that strobes? Just messing around with the thing I found a cheap one that would really mess someone's aim REALLY bad and it was messing up my aim to hell and back. I wouldn't buy this one because it was cheapley made. Also recharge is a big plus! I'm interested in both rifle and and handgun (not in the same platform necessarily). Higher luminous output would be great. Thanks!
Ian Jones nearly all of them strobe now, but most professionals will tell you that the Stone feature is a gimmick.
I carry two a Streamlight Polytac and a Streamlight Stylus Pro.

I started carrying a streamlight stylus pro usb for work and now I can’t leave home without it. I used a phone flashlight for a long time and now I’m not sure how I did. The light output sucks compared to a real flashlight. You’d be surprised how many times a day, you end up needing a little extra light out in the shop.
I carry an olight baton pro, 2000 lumens in a very compact package and rechargeable battery, plus I love the flood beam, works best for my edc uses. I had the smaller version thats 1k lumes but I didn't like how it sat on the pocket clip, it was so short it kept sliding out almost lost it a few times, the pro is the perfect size for my hand and stays good in my pocket
Olight s30r baton lll. I work at a coal mine so it get used and abused. Hasn't let me down yet. I've been packing it for about a year an a half.
I carry the olight s1r baton 2 or s2r baton 2 the most. I do have a couple of i5t Eos but use the other 2 more.

I carry 2! Lumintop tool aa 2.0 in my pocket ( small size for dress pants) and a protac 1L-1AA in my jacket.
Loved the Tool AA 2.0 when I had it. Not the best beam but a damn good minitorch with a 14500 inside.

I got laughed at for always having a shovel in my car trunk. I learned how to drive in Maine in the early ‘70s.
@@chipsterb4946 living in upstate NY I always carry a folding shovel for probably the exact same reasons that you do
