    Great public service message. Thanks for posting. Great point that "make and model aren't critical; just carry something rather than nothing." I still old-school it with Mini MAGlite. A 1xAAA on my keychain and a 2xAAA in the pocket. Twist it shut to turn off, there's zero possibility of accidental on/off in the pocket via button presses. Inexpensive but tough. However, I may eventually upgrade to one of these new-fangled 21st-century EDC lights. One other thought: a 2-cell Mini MAGlite can serve double duty as both EDC light and kubotan. The only caveat is that using a kubotan takes martial arts training, which takes time to build. Oh well, one step at a time.

    I keep one of the Olight i1r 2 keychain lights on my keys and I've given a bunch of them as gifts. Just picked up my first "real" EDC light, the S2R 2 baton and I'm using it daily around the house. Should come in handy when we get back to our seasonal camp this summer.

    Another way an EDC flashlight has helped me has been in reading serial numbers that are engraved a bit too shallow on old weapons. By creating a shadow when shinning a light at an angle, it makes it easier to read those numbers. This has come in handy many times when conducting weapons inventory. And I too never leave the house without my Olight I3T EOS, Leatherman Wave (1st generation), Zippo 1941 Replica, and Benchmade 710.

  • @1996BRECHT
    @1996BRECHT 3 года назад +4

    I couldn't agree more! I've started carrying a Sofirn C01S AAA light in my pocket everywhere I go and I use it at least once a day! I've also put a Leatherman Surge and a Sofirn SC31 Pro 18650 light in my backpack (among other things) which I also use from time to time. More weight on my back but I sure am glad I have those with me if I need them!

    • @FreedomFox1
      @FreedomFox1 3 года назад

      The C01S is one of my favorite AAA flashlights... inexpensive, smooth action and super light on the keychain. Although I think a lot of people would be better off with something that has usb charging (I give the Nitecore Tube to family members, which is even lighter).

    • @stuartspern
      @stuartspern 3 года назад

      I have a Sofirn Sc31 Pro as well, but added the magnetic tailcap and swapped out the tube for a shorter version that takes an 18350 - basically 1.25" shorter than an 18650. The entire light is shorter than your thumb so is very pocketable, and runs the gamut from 1 lumen to over 2000 lumen, either w/smooth or stepped ramp thanks to the Anduril interface

    Once again I agree! Love the non linear strobe Fenix and streamlight for example use that makes it even more difficult for the eye to adapt to! Sadly my favorite light the nitecore srt 7 and P05 (nitecore and most other brands for that matter) has a constant speed of strobing... And I also agree crenelation is a bit overrated and the more aggressiv it is the harder it usually gets to carry... But all decent sized flashlights with an aluminum body make great kubotans (tool for attacking pressure points) for self defense. Merry Christmas from France to you all and to your families!

    If you hit someone in the face with a crenelated bezel vs a non-crenelated bezel there will be no significant difference. If you are installing and removing a light in the pocket of your jeans 100 times a week a crenelated bezel will eventually destroy your jeans. Crenelations have two purposes; decoration OR as a means to identify you forgot to turn your light off before setting it down on the bezel. For self-defense purposes they're pure BS. Now, if the crenelations were 1.5 inches in length or more you may have an advantage. But then it would probably be considered a weapon.
