I love you videos because they are Straight to the point without a lot of extra chatter and give me the information I’m looking for. You’re wonderful. I’ve been struggling with the idea of becoming a nurse for the past 10 years and now that I’m 32 I decided to go to community college to take my pre-requisite courses. Thank you for the encouragement and the straightforward videos to help me on my journey you are a godsend thank you.
I'm about to be a pediatric resident and I'm so excited! I came across this video because we are really not educated much in med school about how nurses actually accomplish their tasks and was curious.Thank you so much for what you all do. We could not take care of these little humans without nurses, y'all are seriously angels.
I have been in peds for a year and this video was so informative! I can’t wait to use the strategies you brought up with my patients! Thanks for making this. I can tell you were a phenomenal peds nurse!
That’s what that pink flavor bubblegum medicine is called that I took when I was little when my ears were hurting. Thank you. I’m not a nurse yet. Or in nursing school thanks for the information.
Nurse Liz you are AMAZING!! I'm starting my program in two weeks (In Michigan) and this video made me so excited to start my journey into nursing you have no idea. Thank you!
Love this!!!!! I am a pediatric OR nurse without Pediatric floor experience and this really has helped me understand and relate to kids and parents so much better, please keep all the tips and tricks going, they are so helpful and most appreciated thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this. I start a nurse extern position in the PICU in June and I love these tips. I’m like terrified and excited at the same time.
OMG! This video was so helpful! I just started as a nurse technician at a peds hospital and I was having some trouble getting assessments and vitals done with the little ones. I started implementing some of these strategies and has worked wonders! Thank you!
Thank you so much Liz!! These are great tips. I am in a ADN program. I start my Peds rotation in 2 weeks and need all the advice I can get 😃I am excited🥰
Recently found your channel and you are so great! My youngest has spent lots of time in hospitals and the peds nurses are my heroes. I’m almost 30 and getting ready to go to school for nursing next year because i want to change lives for families they way so many nurses have changed ours. Thank you!
This video was SO helpful and full of great ideas and ways to talk to kids!! I'm heading into a pediatric placement next semester, and can't wait to give these tips and tricks a try! Thanks! :)
Absolutely loved this video! Hoping to be a pediatric oncology RN/Nurse Practitioner in the future. I volunteer weekly with those kids at my local children's hospital, and nothing would bring me greater joy after all this schooling than to be a nurse to them!
Thank you very much for your informative video Liz, I am feeling a bit of confidence for doing placement in a pediatric ward two weeks later. English is my second language and I have no experience with children. I hope that kids would love me.
Thank you soooooo much! Such amazing insights and tips! I'm interviewing for my first nursing job, and it's in peds. I was a little nervous, but this video was so helpful and informative. I feel a lot better, thanks so much Liz (:
I have always thought about peds.I used to nanny for a peds er nurse and the dad was icu.I love, love ,love kids especially newborns to age 4. Kids in general are amazing but can be challenging . The parents I can imagine that being hard but I also see the challenges, thank you for another great video. I appreciate this because it puts some perspective on things.:)
The is the best video that I have seen and I love it. I work at a Pediatric urgent care 12 hrs shift and I love it SOOOOOO much. I like your tips your awesome.
i'm currently in an accelerated nursing program, and my first degree was in Human Development and Family Studies. Pediatrics is my DREAM and I am so glad that I found this video. It just made me so excited for my future as a nurse
1. Love you and love your videos. 2. I work at a daycare so I do blow bubbles and belt out Disney songs... seriously, I shouldn’t know them as well as I do. 3. I don’t know why they hate having their temperature taken under the arm, they scream bloody murder and I’m just like 😐
1. You are so sweet! Thanks! 2. YESSSSS 3. It seriously blows my mind. I've had kids not blink an eye with a lovenox injection but then I go to get their temperature and they are about to stroke out from rage.
I am so, so glad I found your channel, Liz. I absolutely love Peds and I know it is my calling in Nursing. It's the only specialty that calls my heart and that I am passionate with. Everyone always says its hard and that dealing with parents is the worst but I haven't let that scare me or change my mind. I just got my LPN certification and am working as a LPN in a Peds home health agency and will be graduating with my BSN in December. I'm sure your videos will be a huge help! Kelly :)
I feel you! I think it’s SO important in nursing to find your niche. So glad you’ve found yours!! It’s a demanding job, but when it’s in something you love it’s so much easier. You are so close to bsn! Congrats on all your success so far!
I found your channel a few days ago and I'm already in love!!! Your videos have done so much to alleviate my anxiety around starting my nursing program in a few weeks, and now this one makes me want to go into peds lol. Keep it up ❤
Liz, you've done it again! This video was so helpful and informative! I (hopefully) want to work on a pediatric floor and you gave such good advice! I will definitely keep coming back to this video :) Thank you so much Liz!!!
Your videos are so informative and you have a great personality! You seem down to earth and approachable, and I especially loved your video on bullying in nursing, as that's something that worries me. You're the type of person that I would hope to work with if I decide to take the plunge and finish the BSN that I started.
Thank you for all your videos but especially this one! I’m a special needs parent who has dealt with many, many, many different healthcare providers and for the most part, it usually boils down to communication. I’m starting my nursing journey next month and have my heart set on bringing my own experiences into peds and becoming the strongest advocate I can be.
You are going to be such a phenomenal nurse with all of your experience navigating both life and healthcare with a special needs child. I have SO much respect and amazement for parents like you. You will do such great things!
I'm so nervous because I start my three year BSN program next week. Everyone keeps telling me that it's going to be so hard! I love watching your videos, and you give me the inspiration to become a nurse practitioner one day.
It’s hard, but that’s because you will be taking care of peoples lives!! It’s good that it’s hard! Remember that just because it’s hard doesn’t mean you can’t do it 🙂. You got this!!
LOVE! my baby was 6 days old when we got a phone call from her DR. saying that we needed to go to the children's hosp. (Children's Hosp. of Orange County) ASAP because one of the testes that they tested for on her 24hr screening came back positive (a metabolic disorder). EVERYONE that helped us at that hospital (from the security to the volunteers to the nurses & Dr's) were AMAZING! we we're there for about 24hrs and they sent us home saying that our baby was healthy (they did the blood test 3 times) and that it was a false positive on the 24hr screening. As for the medicine, I don't remember. but my 2 girls (4 & 14 months) prefer grape.
oh.my.gosh that is so stressful! I'm so glad everything turned out well, but I can only imagine what was going through your mind during that. Your kids know whats up in terms of medicine flavor :)
Ok, first, I seriously love your personality and I think we could be really good friends 😂 second, I just started my last year of nursing school (Praise the Lord 🙌🏻) and I want to be a pediatric nurse and maybe one day move to NICU or PICU or something but I just love kids. I loved your examples of ‘arm straws’ and ‘superhero juice’ and stuff like that. I will definitely be using those during my peds clinical rotation this semester! I can tell that you were an amazing nurse and I’m sure your patients and their parents absolutely loved you ❤️
I have a long time until I’m grown up XD but this rn is like my dream job. I am somehow good with kids and I wanna give checkups and stuff. This is what I wanna do lol
Liz!!!! I love ya girl. Your so amazing. I love you communication skills. Can you please make a video on how to communicate with parents and drs? Or just I. General enhance communication. Thanks for the video!! I love it
So excited for this video! Thank you for making this, as it gives me an extra little peek into the world of Pediatrics that I really haven’t experienced yet in nursing school! Really love the video and appreciate all the videos you make!
This was really good. I was wondering if you could make a video on coping with a patient's death? If you haven't already. I think this is really important. Thanks
Akilah Thompson thank you! I haven’t made one on that yet. I actually asked instagram awhile ago if that was something people had interest in and it was a pretty resounding no. But it’s something I also feel SUPER passionate about because I feel like we as nurses are not well prepared for the role we play in death and dying. So maybe I will anyways. Thanks for the idea!!
omg I love this video! This is exactly how I feel about kids! I just started my preceptorship in peds and knew what I was getting into, but it was a surprise nonetheless! So I thought of using the “superhero juice” sort of tactic- but I almost feel like this is lying. Do I feel this way only because of being used to adults? at what age would it be appropriate to really tell the child what it is they are taking?
Thank you! How are you liking your preceptorship? So It totally depends on the kid. Most at the age of 4 get it and I switch to calling it what it is. Basically when the child develops the ability to reason and has "logic" you can talk to them and explain what real things are. They understand far more than we give them credit for even at the age of 4!
I am a student respiratory therapist getting ready for placement, this is extremely helpful and I REALLY appreciate your approach. Do you have any other tips or tricks for your respiratory therapy colleagues?!
this is really informative... thanks for your tips.. i totally agree with all these...hope you share more info. in dealing with our patient and showing the people how Nurses works .😊
Hey Liz your channel is great! ty! I'm beginning my freshman year in nursing school next month. So, I'm wondering about pediatric oncology. Are new nurses able to break into that area?
I volunteered and precepted in a peds floor and I miss it so much 😭It was a unique experience. Currently trying to complete my new grad program at an adult imc unit, I'm totally counting down the days until I am able to transfer to peds!😊
I did adults before I moved over to kids too, so I totally get the "getting your foot in the door" thing! It'll happen before you know it. And you'll learn SO MUCH on your current unit that will serve you so well when you move to peds!
Hey there - I am a new nurse and am working as a pediatric triage nurse and feel so lost. Not to mention I do not have kids so I feel like I am really struggling. Does anyone have any tips or books that would help me be a better nurse. Thank you in advance!
What made you choose to become a FNP over a PNP? I’m 100% drawn to children and know that is where I want to spend my entire career at. I just love that you can be silly and goofy and it doesn’t even matter!! The beauty of pediatrics. (I’m starting nursing school next Fall of 2020 wicked nervous LOL)
I love kids. I don't always love parents. I knew I would want to work outpatient, and that is a TON of dealing with parents. And I wouldnt have the patience to deal with parents who brought their kids in for every little cough haha. I also couldnt deal with all of the abuse. I saw a good amount of that working in peds and wouldnt be able to do it outpatient.
Are there bathtubs in the bathrooms? Considering most kids takes baths. Also, were there times that an infant/toddler was alone since the parents had to work or had to take care of their other kids at home? How do you keep an eye on them when you have other patients to take care of?
There was a room on the floor that had a tub and some spare equipment, so if the child could have a bath they could go in there. It was rarely used since most of the children were unable to have baths due to their treatment/status. If nobody could be with the child they would be alone in the room, which was hard.
I’m only in highschool but I seriously want to go into this field!! Any tips or classes I should take or just anything in general you think I should know would be super helpful!! and I just stumbled upon your channel and i’m happy I did :)
I’m 20 and about to age out of my children’s hospital :( the people there are so much nicer than my new adult hospital (they wouldn’t even let my mom in pre or post op)
ugh that transition can be rough. I hope you get all the super understanding nurses and providers who can give you a bit of extra TLC. hang in there ❤️
That's a whole class! A bit too much to cover here. Google may be able to help dyou though! Most units you work on are specialized to cover certain diagnoses so you typically don't have a unit that sees everything unless it is a smaller hospital
The only thing I would add to this is you really need to pay attention to how your patients with chronic illness react to the tactics you usually like to use. As a patient, especially if I was in pain or nauseas, I didn't want to hear the silly language, I didn't want to help, and I didn't need a detailed explanation of every procedure becuase I had experienced them many times before. These patients will often be more mature for their age simply because chronic illness makes you grow up fast and you've spent much more time than other kids around adults having sophisticated conversations about medical care. When I was awake and starting to feel better, I appreciated the personalities of my nursess a lot more but when I wasn't I mostly just wanted a kind nurse who treated me with empathy and respected my inteligence.
What’s the difference between a pediatrician and a pediatric nurse? Do they do the same stuff and how long do you have to be in school? Also is the salary good?
Very different roles! Pediatrician is a physician and health care provider. I'd google the professions! Lots of info out there. Glassdoor the salaries, thats the best way to find the compensation rates in your area!
I saw this video a few years ago when I thought about peads, decided id do ER since thats where I was thinking about going and I get some experience with kids. I'm thinking about doing peads again and this is baller information. But kids are scary like when they decline, its so much faster than adults ive had a kiddo satting 98% with a cough initally to like 82% in the time it took to get the chest xray. I think im ready for it now though. I handled the situation well (I was in a make-shift area of the emergency department that used to be an auditorium so im grabbing the NRB in our supply room on the stage haha) Also, I loaded aaaaaallllllll the carts with stickers. Wherever there is a crying child who is developmentally above not eating it, there is a sticker near by. I just suck at kiddo IVs though. And its so much worse when mum and dad are watching
I’ve watched this video 3 times in the past 4 years. now that I’m in my Peds rotation more hungry than ever to know how the HECK you get a set of vitals on a squirmy patient. Day #1 has been interesting. 😂
Hi ! I love your video :) I’m only 15 , but my dream job is to be a Paediatric Nurse ! I would really appreciate it if you could give me any tips whatsoever that may help me succeed to work in peds, literally anything at all (study/subjects/uni/money) etc !
I saw a kidney doctor once because my cardiologist thought my high blood pressure was because of them. (Spoiler alert my kidneys were fine) and the doctor did blood pressure on both arms and both legs. I thought doing both arms was too much but I didn’t realize it was possible to do it on the legs too. It hurt so bad and I kept yelling at him to stop. He just kept inflating the cuff like it was no big deal. And I was a teenager when this all happened I had the right to tell him to stop that it was hurting me but he just kept going. My blood pressure went up and up because I was freaking out. Anytime someone mentions doing blood pressure on the legs it immediately takes me back to that.
My mom was visiting the neighbour and let me measure my own Cherry cough syrup. She pointed out how much to put in the ONE cap. I took 3 or 4. Mmm mmm scrumdiddlyumptious. Never again though, hated Cherry after that. Only other flavour I had was banana, not bad considering I don’t like the real stuff.
This one time when I was like five I had a terrible tummy thing going on My mother gave me pepto. I was walking through the kitchen and threw up pink vomit everywhere! I promptly slipped and slid through it like a pink slip and slide. That was the first time I saw my mother crack. She laughed so hard. I was super bummed at the time, but now I see that was probably the light of her day/week. Hilarious.
Totally new environment where they have no control over the scary things happening to them. Having parents or loved ones around and clustering all your care helps
What medicine flavor was your jam when you were a kid? (Or now 😂)
Jaslin Deol 😍 so. Good.
Bubblegum
Disneygirl377 excellent choice!
Grape all the way!
Kristina Frank yes!! We can be friends 😂
This is one of the best videos you’ve made. I’m not even in peds, but super informative and def shows your experience!

Pink bubblegum flavor Amoxicillin. Would have drank the whole bottle if they let me when I was a little girl. Lol.
Yess! 🙌🏻. I think I complained that my “ears hurt” CONSTANTLY just so I could maybe get some 😂
Nurse Liz that’s a good idea. I didn’t think of that when I was a kid 😔
That’s what that pink flavor bubblegum medicine is called that I took when I was little when my ears were hurting. Thank you. I’m not a nurse yet. Or in nursing school thanks for the information.
I remember that was delicious when I was a kid

Awesome!! Hope you learn a ton and love it!
Thank you so much, I go into peds rotation this semester!
Hope you have a great experience!
I am not a nurse but am getting ready to go into veterinary nursing. This can also translate into veterinary care, this is so true.
I honestly never even thought of that! Good to know!
For vitals, I think playing the statue game is good! You get them still and it’s fun
Such a good idea!
So excited for this video! Thank you for making this, as it gives me an extra little peek into the world of Pediatrics that I really haven’t experienced yet in nursing school! Really love the video and appreciate all the videos you make!

I am so happy I have found this!!!
Hi Liz I like your tips thank you
I am a student respiratory therapist getting ready for placement, this is extremely helpful and I REALLY appreciate your approach. Do you have any other tips or tricks for your respiratory therapy colleagues?!
this is really informative... thanks for your tips.. i totally agree with all these...hope you share more info. in dealing with our patient and showing the people how Nurses works .😊
Every tuesday! Glad it was helpful :)
You are so awesome !! Thank you for the tips & tricks.
Of course! Hope they can help you!
Hey Liz your channel is great! ty! I'm beginning my freshman year in nursing school next month. So, I'm wondering about pediatric oncology. Are new nurses able to break into that area?
Yep! The hospital I worked at had some new nurses on their oncology floor
Do you think it is possible to go straight into Peds after graduating with an associates degree and starting the new grad program?
Yep! Totally depends on the hospital.
Nurse Liz that’s great!
Welcome! Just work on finding what study methods work for you! The quicker you master that the easier college will be!
Nurse Liz cool , thank you ! :)
Thank you for sharing your video was super helpful.
I’m glad!
I’m 20 and about to age out of my children’s hospital :( the people there are so much nicer than my new adult hospital (they wouldn’t even let my mom in pre or post op)
ugh that transition can be rough. I hope you get all the super understanding nurses and providers who can give you a bit of extra TLC. hang in there ❤️
Hi Liz! I'm new to your channel! Can you describe the type of patients and what treatment/procedures you preform in pediatric nursing?
When I was awake and starting to feel better, I appreciated the personalities of my nursess a lot more but when I wasn't I mostly just wanted a kind nurse who treated me with empathy and respected my inteligence.
let me tell you, I love watching your videos!
Aww thanks for watching!
Amazing !!! Thank you 🙏🏽 💕!!!
What do you do at a pediatric cardiac
take care of children born with heart conditions and kids after open heart surgery
Love you videos and your vlogs. Very informative and very helpful tips 👍👏.
Thanks Mellonee!!
Thank you for this video
I now have the courage to be pediatric nurse🙏
It's such a great specialty!
I handled the situation well (I was in a make-shift area of the emergency department that used to be an auditorium so im grabbing the NRB in our supply room on the stage haha)
Also, I loaded aaaaaallllllll the carts with stickers.
I'm in nursing school. My goal is to be a practitioner in pediatrics. But I get super emotional when kids/babies are sick or dying.
That never goes away, and I think it’s a good thing ❤️
Hi ! I love your video :) I’m only 15 , but my dream job is to be a Paediatric Nurse ! I would really appreciate it if you could give me any tips whatsoever that may help me succeed to work in peds, literally anything at all (study/subjects/uni/money) etc !
Awesome video!
Bubblegum amoxicillin sums up my pediatric doctor visits perfectly.
❤
Hilarious.
Omg haha. I feel like I would laugh too 😂
Dan Vasc belts out disney songs, metal style
i loved pepto bismo
fav meds was strawberry
Why are small children afraid of hospitals, then how to calm them so they are not afraid??
Totally new environment where they have no control over the scary things happening to them. Having parents or loved ones around and clustering all your care helps
I'm not even sure why I'm watching this I'm not even a nurse! but I do work with babies
😂
Subscribed btw
Thanks for following along!!
BUBBLE GUMMMM!
yessss
I wanna work in peds (J1 here haha)
orange
That’ll always stand out!
