Nice video, Kristen! I think you could add the airport trip expenses (home to airport), since sometimes are about 50 to 100 USD. All the other stuff is great!!
+Lucas Videla That's definetly one to consider. You can also ask a family member or friend to drive you...bribe them a delicious morning coffee on you ;)
+Kristen Sarah Check with local Travel Agencies who may have empty seats on commuter flights or bus charters when going long distance to International Airports.
Really enjoyed this video - I'm currently living in England from Australia and I'm finding the city quite expensive! I've definitely found that scopping out travel blogs and reading reviews to be really helpful! x
What the heck your passport photo is so good!! I look like I'm dying in mine. Thanks for the tips! Your videos get me really excited to start traveling!
Great tips, Kristen! Isa is in Nice, France right now after spending a few days in Italy. I'm in Alaska, going to Florida in a few weeks and then both of us will head to Turkey for 10 days. Yay for travel!!
Oh, and as far as bringing toiletries, depending on the length of your trip, I'd bring an extra stick of deodorant. I have such a hard time finding "normal" deodorant in so many countries. Have you noticed that?
We are traveling in Latin America right now, we left with 8000 CAD for both of us and this is not enough :( We are really meeting some challenges! Anyway, we have this travel webseries on our RUclips channel and are really LOVING editing and making these videos! Thanks for making these tip videos. They're the best!
Would you mind doing a video about "being sick on 4 continents"? For those of us with health issues (I'm in Asia with pancreatitis this minute!), I think it would be truly interesting to find out if you've had the more popular illnesses, and how you recovered so nicely! I think that illness is, for many, a part of travel (and a part of life), and it is rather fun to hear others' experiences! It's just part of the adventure! Thank you so much!
Fantastic video as always Kristen ! One way I've found to cut costs in regards to, for instance, airfare is to not always just book straight connections as there are often cheaper routes to get from A to B that may involve either a night in C or a no-frills budget airline. For Example : I was looking at the cost of going from my home airport of Nice to Sydney, just for the fun of it, total = >€2500 roundtrip However I remembered about Norwegian Air who fly to Bangkok (BKK) via Oslo for €500 return ! So then I went on BKK's Wikipedia page to see what airlines/routes go out of BKK to Australia. Turns out Jetstar, an Aussie budget carrier, goes from BKK to Sydney via Melbourne for around €400 return if you leave a couple days after the Norwegian flight lands. Potential Result ! Would get to go to the same place I would have wanted to go but for 2.5x less by just spending a weekend in an otherwise unseen connection point. TLDR : Do your homework and don't be afraid to look up obscure routes and airlines to save a ton of cash. You may not get an onboard meal but you get to go further across the globe than you might have 1st thought ;)
+Matthew Tasker I love that you included a TLDR. :) This is great advice. We did just that, with Norwegian Air on our trip to Europe earlier this year from New York and saved hundreds of dollars AND got to see Oslo.
+Angelina Teyler I thought this one was important and can't believe I haven't done a video like this yet haha. I hope this helps you when planning your next trip :)
Without watching it, I would say that it depends on where you wanna go or decide to go when already on the road, and what kind of traveller you are (backpacker or fancy). Btw: Backpacking is way funnier.
I disagree with the no cheap backpack tip. I bought my 60L on ebay on the cheap and have been using it for 11 years. It is light, well balanced, every bit of it is adjustable, and I just throw it in the wash to clean it. I found no need to pay more than $30 for a backpack.
+Elyse Carnagie which one are you using? That's great that's it's lasted you. I've used cheap ones and they never last and since I travel 6-9 months out of the year, I find having one with a lifetime warranty is worth it.
+Kristen Sarah my friend and I are hoping to do a road trip from Toronto to Vancouver next summer! Hopefully aha. If I see you at buffer festival this year, I'd love to ask you some questions for help :)
+Kristen Sarah Definitely after my studies i'm going to travel the world. I would really love to spend a full year of travelling. Already so excited! *-*
Hey Kristen! Are there any travel insurance companies that you can recommend, or do you just purchase whatever the agency offers you at the time you purchase your flights? I've always been cautious to not get ripped off, so I never bothered buying insurance until my last trip to Finland. I got insurance and I actually did end up needing it, but they totally didn't come through! I paid for it and got ripped off. I know the importance of insurance but don't want to lose my money again. Any tips? Thanks in advanced!!
im planning a trip to europe in april saving up now and the plan is to be gone for a year im excited and nervous but this helped me a lot. Any tips on blogging and vlogs? how do you get your videos so clear?
Canadian RUclipsrs are the best! :D

+Kristen Sarah yeah... they use to ask me for things from the Free Shop whenever I come back hehe.

And never forget to pack your sanitary wipes. I can't stress enough as to how effective it is to have them.
This video was very helpful for planning! I'm going to the Philippines later this year. I'm sure I'll put this advice to use. Thanks for the info!
I've loved your blog since forever. Thought I should comment! My next trip is the Trans Siberian Railway next year and I cannot wait! - Anushka
Yes there are many questions regarding the Preparation for Global Travel. Also related starting a personal RUclips channel.

+Smile with Mel Yes, Englad can get quite pricey over time. Do you know here you will head to next? Any ideas?
Not sure yet - I think I'll stick around here for awhile :D I've lived in Bangkok and Fiji so this is completely different again!

+UrbanEmpress Great idea for a video. I'd be happy to share my experiences.
Good practical tips. Totally agree these are important things often overlooked =)

+Humanity Generator you're very welcome! Any other travel questions u want answered? I'd love to turn them into a video
I'd like to know how to afford it whilst you're actually travelling! That's where most of the costs reside....
+Amelia Jerome Great idea. I can definetly talk about that in another video.
+Kristen Sarah Thank you that would be extremely helpful! Also thank you for this video too :D
