    The Alfa mechanic showed me you only need to take out the back half of the cover and let it drop to reach the filter and drain plug. It works flawlessly and changed mine twice that way. Only took out about 6 bolts. Peace!

    pro tip for keeping track of screws is to use a piece of cardboard , label back front left right and then puncture the screws into the cardboard so you know EXACTLY where they came from. great video thanks for posting.

    Nice video.. We have a 2018 Stelvio so I'm going to follow your instructions and give it a try. Will let you know how it goes. Thank you for posting this video. Looks fairly easy to do besides having to remove all those under panel screws off but once they're removed, it looks a straight forward task. This is very helpful to me since the dealer charged us almost $300 for an oil change last time we brought it in. Thanks again!

    My wife is looking at getting one of these. This video was very helpful!! Glad to know that it's not that much different from your average oil change haha, the in-laws are under the impression that because it's not "domestic" that maintenance and repairs are going to be costly.

      Repairs at dealership yes costly repairs from mechanics like myself who are truthful and know that theirs only a few of us good individuals left that aren’t going to lie and get over on people just because we can is the tricky part … I’ve been building engines for years my father and grandfather were both jacks of all trades just like myself so it’s in my blood …. Both my dad and grandpa taught me about having integrity what’s wrong is wrong and what’s right is right doesn’t matter how the person feels the truth is the truth lmao .. so I say that to say this I’ve had mechanics who I have taken my customer cars to the shop and I’ve done work to the vehicle before I would bring the car into the shop or dealership to be looked at and they would tell me oh the brakes would need to be replaced when they had 50% life left lol or that the transmission fluid would need to be flushed or that the tires needed to be rotated when every 7k miles … I would just watch and then in the end I would say I am mechanic myself and disown these people and ofc they would tell me I had to leave so I did but at least I got proof of these dealerships and service centers getting over on people … one of my customers went in to have the oil changed they told him he needed to have windshield wipers replaced , set of new tires which had about 40 % thread left and ofc with new tires they included an alignment check and tune … it’s a dirty game in the field but hey it’s kill or be killed unfortunately… find someone who’s loyal and trustworthy.. find someone who has a good customer portfolio and go from their don’t go to dealerships to have your car serviced… everyone can get a jack and jack stands and do the work themselves but if you don’t again find someone who’s a 5 star mechanic like myself .

    I have a 2012 giulietta in the UK with a 1.4 multiair turbo producing 170 bhp. I use 5w 40 full synthetic oil called Quantum Platinum, that I get from a VW dealer, the oil matches the exact spec and its cheap £18 for 5 litres, which is about 12 dollars. The oil must be good if they are using it on state of the art VWs. At this price I always change my oil and filter every 6 months which is 3,000 miles not the recommended 18,000.

    It's good that you mention not to over tighten the oil drain plug. My Mercedes V6 has a small green paint dot match mark from the factory. A friend told me it's there so the dealer can tell if the oil has been changed if you go in for warranty work. Don't know if that is true, but I ease up on tightening the drain plug if I get past there. Factory spec is 22 ft/lbs. You probably saved $100 to DIY.

      @DonViToCRLNE 4 года назад

      of course you can. You can make a oil change (it changes about 50-70% of the oil) or you flush the transmission (100% oil change). Its a ZF transmission, there are videos on youtube where you can see how they do it, at least in german. Doing it by yourself is not easy and flushing is only possible in a workshop who has the hardware needed for a flush but you only have to do it about every 112k miles (180k km). The filter will be changed with the transmissioncover together because its integrated in it. But i dont know how well this process is known outside of germany or europe.

      @@autofanaticcars Negative, an independent shop will most likely not be able to do this unless they have a MOPAR WiTECh II tool, a tech net subscription, and being a Alfa Romeo Franchise. Starting the 2018 MY, FCA has begun to install a SGW (software gateway) that in order to communicate to the car and change car settings (including the oil minder), the scan tool needs to have an encryption key from FCA's servers. Independent shops typically don't have the capital to invest in these kinds of specialty tools unless it pays off for them. Also to buy parts you can't just go to your local dodge dealer and order Alfa parts, again they have to have purchased the franchise to get the privilege to sell them. Screwed up isn't it?

    Those Jack stands are a real good idea. I can't tell you how many times I watched traditional ones fail or begin to slip. I use ramps but the execution is never easy with them.

You need the proper software, And two adapter cables if you use Multiecuscan software .A Wi-Fi ELM327 OBD link Interface, and Alpha Romero‘s built after February 2017 have a security module block ( SGW ) only the dealers can get into, you could buy a bypass. How well is the Gulia and stelvio selling in the US?

    • @chrism2465
      @chrism2465 4 года назад

      They sell better than Fiat, their not as common, you'll see them in major metropolitan areas, in Indianapolis they're two dealerships one for the north side and another on the south side

  • @jackreacher7939
    @jackreacher7939 2 года назад

    Only thing I would add. Don't put the belly pan back on until you refill the oil, just in case you overfill it and have to drain any extra.

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  2 года назад +1

      it happened once these cars without a dipstick are a total PITA to get the fill lever correct because I do not trust the sensor or dash display. I usually fill with 5 quarts, drive for a day and check and it seems for every new oil change the Stelvio will take an honest 6 quarts of oil to get the dash reading correctly.

      Hays Goodman yes, the one closest to the windshield is engine coolant. The other closest to the bump is for the intercooler.

    Hello Autofanatic, thanks for your oil video, however you are using the wrong oil, AMSOIL is not SN PLUS, therefore you are not only damaging your engine you are also voiding your warranty, MOPAR MaxPRO is the only SN PLUS 0w30 on the mkt.. GOOD LUCK!

    • @autofanaticcars

      because during engine break in its the best thing to do to pull any wear out of the crankcase and start fresh, i would never listen to the owners manual or dealer telling me 10k mile intervals.

    • @furtivedig
      @furtivedig 5 лет назад

      @@darrylplunkett5676 I am with Auto Fanatics on this. I you want to keep your engine for 60-120 miles you will probably be alright. However if you want extra peace of mind, do your oil changes religiously. You have direct injection, multiair, turbocharging, all good reason to use fresh oil more often. I can vouch on the brand of oil, as the previous generation Multiair only accepted a particular Selenia. perhaps things have changed.

    • @MrCarGuy

      @@darrylplunkett5676 Wrong. The factory oil-fill on any engine needs to be changed much sooner because residuals from manufacturing and break-in do remain.
