Well, have you seen Frontiers and Beyond? They had a TON of "stuff." Like 10 semis. They got a chopper shot and each semi roof had a letter on the top. It read Journey Tour, 1981 Escape...
He is in that Lukather bracket near enough. Santana and early journey records are proof of that. And playing live as consistently on point as he has done for all these years. Man's underappreciated all in all for sure
@@JackMcLeodJr Neil was 17 when he was asked by Clapton to join Derek And The Dominoes but Carlos countered with an offer to join Santana. Think about how insane that is and think back, what were you doing at 17? When I was 17, Clapton and Santana weren't knocking at my door, that's for sure!
What does your race have to to do with this? Good music transcends everything. Too much reference to one’s race today. We are all one race, the human race.

@@michaelhubert5470 you're very welcome, & I agree with you. Journey is not Journey without Steve Perry IMO. Also thank's for responding. It allowed me to correct my typo of tenor altino not alteno LOL. Anyway, I also edited my above comment. I only tell people these things for Steve Perry's credit, not about my knowledge about him, it's about his extremely rare and AWESOME voice. I just like to let people know just how rare it is. He hits the highest note on the male register with his voice and it comes out smooth as silk. I love to hear him do Wheel in the Sky live, especially toward the end when he's singing right beside Neil playing the guitar. I only recently realized that it was Steve's voice and not the guitar. I think it's the one done in 1979. I love his four octaves five notes vocal range, singing with his chest voice and head voice. Wow!!! I'm sure you can see I'm crazy about the guy, but admittedly I loved his voice when he was with Journey the best. Btw, I'm sorry this is so long.
I would go back to the late 70’s and early 80’s in a heartbeat. Life was easy then. And the music was at its purist and best. Time machine anyone? I’m in.
Steve Perry has the range of a high tenor and solid alto and is considered a countertenor. He is a rare tenor altino, a rare form of countertenor, a voice that many consider incomparable. His voice is very recognizable and longtime friend of Perry's, Jon Bon Jovi, gave him the nickname, "The Voice."

Drums, guitar, piano, bass and super great vocals. I forgot how good they were!
Saw them 4 times when I was younger and they were fantastic live 👏
Dude I've never met a band that sounds exactly the same live as they do in an album like Journey can! They are absolutely stunning!
Dude I thought exactly the same.
Excactly.. Sometimes Eagles can
Eagles? Nah
That distinction goes to these guys, and Queen
Completely agree 👍
Wow your right. Escape tour was my first concert. They played with Foreigner. Epic.
Besides Perry's incredible voice, let's give props to the piano guy for the soul grabbing melody, the crying guitar solo, and the drummer keeping it all in the pocket.
The piano guy?? How about Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith, Ross Valory, and the GOAT Neil Schon.....JOURNEY

THE Piano Guy!! Are you kidding me!! HIs Name Is JOHNATHAN CAIN!!!!!! NOT!!!! Some Piano Guy!! 😠
the funny thing is Steve Perry was the one who wrote the melody and rhythm for this song, and the keyboardist Johnathan Cain wrote the lyrics hahahahha
Steve is now aged 73, how time flies! A real vocal legend, if you know anything about singing.
I believe in 2023 he's now 74 years old. DOB Jan 22 1949, same age as one of my many sisters.
I agree, I am a voice teacher: Steve sings easily high pitched notes in sostenuto, brightness. I wonder how he would perform classical music, mainly baroque music
@@Ricardojoglar because Steve Perry has tenor's voice
@@marciacastroalvarez4868 Which tenor sub-register you mean? The way he hits the high registrer is what makes him an exception among the majority pf rock tenors
Dear God, now I feel old.
it is such a shame that new music isnt like this anymore....
Nobody, and I mean that, could ever compare to Steve Perry as vocalist! Just an amazing talent all around.
I agree!!! There is Noone on this earth that could ever sound as good and talented as Perry. Wish he was still with the band.
@Michael Smith Freddie had a wider range but no one could compare to the 2 vocalists

Journey reminds me of the best years of my life. The 80’s were amazing.
same here remember "Seasons in the son" in the 70's?

Truth🎉❤🎉
They certainly were, if only.
My Sons ask me "Daddy what was it like to be there then....I just smile and answer...
"Magical"
it truly was!
Never got the honor to see them live. Sad that live performances like this will never be recreated.
I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS COMMENT A HEART. PERFECTLY SAID TO CHILD.
1st concert I ever went to, 1983, in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was 12, my Mother took me Journey rocked the house!!
I'm in my late 50's, and your comment made my eyes swell up!
I f--king miss *the 70's and 80's* ( _MY teens & 20's!_ ) soooooooo bad!!!!!! :'( #Magical
Perry and Journey were absolutely the best.
This was music! When people actually sang! Wow ! I love Steve Perry!
We thought this great music would never end

July 2024. Steve Perry’s voice still sends chills up my spine.
Steve Perry is a "Legend". No one will ever match his ability to draw you in and actually feel the lyrics of a song like he did back then. He's still a powerhouse in my book. Love you Steve!
Even now his solo music " traces" ECT is great. Sure voice is little raspy..and I love it. Crying is one of my favorites and so much more. Been listening for 45 years . Journey in the 80's now just Steve. Then journey died when Steve left. He was journey!!
Steve, pure dynamite
To all the 80’s gen…..we didn’t know how good we had it until it was gone!!!
We did but they can't replicate or even come close today.
No gimmicks, no fancy stage setup. It's just these gentlemen with 100% passion and pure talent. Thank you for bringing so much joy in this 'Journey' called life. God bless.
Could not have said it any better!!!

Well, have you seen Frontiers and Beyond?
They had a TON of "stuff."
Like 10 semis.
They got a chopper shot and each semi roof had a letter on the top.
It read Journey Tour, 1981 Escape...

Wow, Just what's needed - another Perry wannabe! Maybe he can replace Arnel - now that would be poetic justice!
Steve is still giving all of us his beautiful talent and voice even in 2022
Neal Schon is one the greatest guitarists of all time and is somehow still underrated. He absolutely kills it in this performance
He is in that Lukather bracket near enough. Santana and early journey records are proof of that. And playing live as consistently on point as he has done for all these years. Man's underappreciated all in all for sure
Truth
@@JackMcLeodJr Neil was 17 when he was asked by Clapton to join Derek And The Dominoes but Carlos countered with an offer to join Santana. Think about how insane that is and think back, what were you doing at 17? When I was 17, Clapton and Santana weren't knocking at my door, that's for sure!
@@if6was929 Yeah man much the same with Steve Vai being the protégé of Frank Zappa back then too

What does your race have to to do with this? Good music transcends everything. Too much reference to one’s race today. We are all one race, the human race.

His voice was amazing and that guitar was talking a language that nobody knows but yet everyone understands! Special talent right there!
A Neverending Journey ♾️❤
Perry is definitely in a class all of his own, he could sing the phone book and make it sound incredible.
AMEN!
THAT was FUNNY....but TRUE!!!! Best regards to you and STEVE!!!!.
Yes! True!
Still sounds good in 2024 just as it did in 1981
Pitch perfect. No crap auto-tune. No "special effects".
That is how it was done in the 80s
I agree journey with Steve Perry runs circles around Metallica. Metallica uses autotune they have been since 1999 while journey doesn't.
And you actually had to have talent to get a record deal. Journey was an amazing band.

I dont care who you are Steve Perry has a phenomenal voice. One of a kind.
Legendary
Absolutely 100% true. Steve has a very rare Tenor altino voice. It's a rare form of countertenor. I knew he was rare before I found that out.;-) He's awesome and untouchable.
@@melissarom3880 I didnt know his precise tone, (thank you for that.) but I know he makes that band. lol no offense to the other guys, they are phenomenal. It's just his voice makes it complete.
@@kimsteinke713 very true.
I’m in.
James Basinger Dude, yes! I WISH Steve Perry still performed with Journey! Would have loved to see them in concert!
I'll get some doritos :)
Yeah, I got one but you won't want to come back , I know, because I'm still there .
Count me in !!
I liked the head music also of the whole 70's too.
Yes, the golden voice.
JBJ wasn’t bad either! Probably could’ve given Steve a run for his money back in the day.
Ah yes but let's not forget FM.
@@slowmoe1964 Freddie Mercury was awesome too!

That voice is once in a lifetime.
