I always thought these had really cute little exhausts. I used to have one and I'd leave it to warm up on the drive in winter for a bit, once I'd set the choke. I'd come back out and just see that stumpy little wiggling pipe, chugging away happily, once it had started to settle. Definitely prefer a manual choke, gives you control and makes it more of an art form bringing that little engine to life. Really miss my wee Micra 😞
Hi Alex, Loved your latest video on the Micra, looking firward to Part 2. You obviously must hace got it fixed as it's back on your driveway... Take care and I hope you and Lyndon have a lovely Christmas and a happy 2022.
I wonder if the carburetor needs to be refurbished? A Nissan manual for this Micra would be handy! And a round of applause for attempting to repair as I simply couldn't be bothered and ring up a garage!
I remember cars with automatic chokes from the 1970s and 80s and often they were a pain in the ar5e. There were many aftermarket manual choke kits available at the time, but I am not sure if any were available for Nissan Micra.
Remember I had a Yamaha Jog R with an automatic choke that crapped out, and I replaced it with a manual one and problem solved Not a car , but still , same problem
the automatic choke is actually a very simple device i would say yours was semi seized when starting from cold press the throttle pedal once and the choke flap should be closed i noticed yours was not so when you get it freed up im sure you won't have any more starting problems 🙂.
Haynes manuals, in the days when they were genuinely informative and usually accurate. They can still be wrong sometimes. I am waiting to see whether there is a Japanese A series engine under the carb! There is a little bit more room under the bonnet of your Rovers!!!
Hi My micra k10 - starts fine and then starts turning off, I have put new leads, spark plugs and full service. Just shakes feels like it will turn off any minute… any idea
Did you figure this out? I'm having the same problem right now (warm engine idles soo low it's on the brink of stalling when ever I let it idle, say coming to a red light) I normally do everything myself but I had someone else take the carb off and clean it so I think maybe something to do with the cable adjustment?
@@kesarh E10 if used regularly/ left in the fuel system will rot out old rubber quicker. But it wouldn't be an immediate issue. Low octane fuel can cause running issues if it's set up to run on high octane. I find my cars become a bit gutless if i don't use 99 octane fuel.
@@kesarh slight missfire noticable on idle? I would (with rubber handled pliers) pull off each HT lead one at a time to see if engine note changes. If you pull one off and it hardly changes, I suspect spark plug issue or lead faulty. If it's not had a set of plugs for a while, it's worth just changing them all and see if it improves.
@@Alexsassets don’t know on a micra. Auto chokes I found never worked properly the bi metal spring wouldn’t heat up to open the choke or wouldn’t close properly when cold.
@@Alexsassets you used to be about to get a conversion kit for them. On my old Granada I drilled through the spindle & attached a cable . Just about worked it always started when cold
Let’s be real, Alex sawing the bush at the start was a VIBE

Lovely little Micra, looking forward to Part 2 already. I think you need a degree to read a Haynes Manuel the way it jumps about!

Glad I didn't have to deal with this when I drove it, my friend!
The thing was.... i started it before you came over 🤣 didn't want the embarrassment
@@Alexsassets , you did me a favour, as I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do myself.
I'd love this little car in my collection 🤣

I'm obviously much more simpler 😅

Sounds too complicated to me, I’d ring the RAC 😂
😆 it fried my brain 😆 what's wrong with a knob and cable I say x

I think the small print said 'in the next edition' 🤣

When you say it shakes like it will turn off....
Do you mean when driving? Or when idle ? I.e at junctions.

where did you get your mg rover work overalls?!?!?!?!
I've had them a long time. I got from a stall at the NEC restoration show. 😄
hi alex , I have a Nissan Micra with gearbox problems. Do you know if I could change it for another model?
Hello 🥰 I'm sorry I honestly don't know.... I've sold my micra now and don't have any of the books anymore 🙃
@@AlexsassetsNow why would anyone sell one these gems 😂
Hi
Which fuel do you put in this? E10 or E5?
E5 . I wouldn't put E10 in anything.
@@Alexsassets biggest mistake I put in E10.. didn’t realise you think it should be ok. Any idea what can cause the slight misfire

Best auto choke is no autochoke, find a manual choke version
Do away with the bi metal spring & put a cable on it
Is that an easy conversion?
