  • It is entirely possible for ANYBODY to do a van build. Seriously I mean it. All it takes is a little hard work, creative thinking, and decent motivation!
    The best part is, I also KNOW FOR A FACT anybody can also build out a van for under $12K and that includes the price of the van.
    My van is a 2001 Chevy Astro Van AWD Cargo. I bought it for $7500 and ended up with an awesome and professional build for only $10,400 TOTAL!
    If I can do it, then so can you!
    Feel free to check out my other videos / channel where I give a tour of the van, go on adventures, or scroll back to the beginning where I began my journey with this awesome rig!
    Thanks for watching, help me out by liking, commenting, and please SUBSCRIBE :)

    Thanks for the encouragement! I'm a fat old lady with one leg and I don't get much of that. I also bought an Astro in March but it's just too hot here in Florida right now for me to do much. Also I made a mistake and didn't check underneath the van and it's full of rust. Now I'm trying to learn how to jack it up enough to get under there and clean it up. I just can't turn around and sell it to someone else like that.

    Your van is awesome ❤️ I have a '98 Astro it doesn't have a lot of wall space and I don't want to cover up my windows , which are plenty.. pretty much 360and they open. I have great ventilation. I'm on a fixed income so I can only do a little bit at a time,like you said. I like your set up a lot how wide is the bed and the kitchen counter? I'm getting my fridge next month and possibly my solar panels. Wish me luck 🤗

    Hey Bronson, another great video along with some motivational words. Any thing worth having is going to requires money, time and lots of effort
    It’s a commitment that has excellent potential. The pride you feel having accomplished every single step of this build. The trouble shooting when things didn’t work out as you thought they would. You must be flexible to complete the task and you did it!! Bravo!👏🏻👏🏻. I think for me, my biggest obstacle was not having a garage to work in. I never knew that you could work on a vehicle in a storage facility. I’ll look into that.
    I have a question about shore power. Did you wire your van with 30amps or lower?? I won’t mess with electric. That will have to be done by someone else with skills. Getting 4 new tires next week. Also getting a bed frame built. Meeting with retired carpenter on Monday morning. I’ll be going through my van over the next 4-5 months to make sure everything has been looked at before I leave on my adventure. Flush antifreeze, front end work, and examine the rubber bushings/motor mounts. I definitely don’t want to break down in the middle of nowhere.

    • @bgrace27
      @bgrace27  11 месяцев назад

      Personally in my build, I didn’t add a way to use shore power. I was planning on it, but in the end I never did. I have a 200w Solar panel with a 30 amp MPPT charge controller. The charge controller also charges my batteries when the engine is running.
      My batteries are 200 amp hours total and it’s more than enough to run my charging equipment, 12v fridge, stove, and lights.
      My charge controller is 30 amps, and my highest fuse size is 50 amps for extra security. (50 amp fuse is attached to main power wire)
      As for electricity, I can’t blame you. I am actually and electrician for a career so I’m used to it.
      But without the right knowledge it is difficult and can be dangerous.
      If you do end up building you own electrical system just remember, fuses are your best friend!
      It’s smart of you to get your van all Checked out and fixed for issues. I’ve been going through and catching things as they come as well. It’s a pain 😔
      I also flushed the coolant as I was having overheating issues going up in the mountains. It’s not fun, definitely have a shop do it.
      Good luck and enjoy the journey!!
      And as always, thanks for watching Nancy 😁

      @@bgrace27 I was very impressed with the electric wiring you did along with the whole solar set up. Having a marketable trade like you have, is fantastic!! My friends son just started his own Electrician business. Thanks for the additional information on solar. I use to be a journeyman gas fitter. I was an utility worker for a natural gas company. I would change out gas meters, set a gas meter for new construction, turn gas meters on when a tenant was moving in or lock meters when tenants moved. Even responded to gas leaks. I truly enjoyed my job. I had a great respect for the dangers but like you, you have a comfort level with electricity. Trust me I won’t be doing any electrical. My brother installed my Fantastic Fan in my ceiling. Boy does that make a huge difference! I have a small 300 watt Jackery. Also have a 700 watt Bluetti. Bluetti now offers a power station that will boost the power output of existing power stations. Check it out.
      Enjoy your day. Hot and humid here in Connecticut. Down sizing camping stuff. I have too much!!😲😲😳😳

      @@nancyjohnson2070 dang that’s awesome! I need to learn more about gas. I’ll try to reach that “jack of all trades, master of none” status one day 😂
      I’ll bet it’s hot if it’s humid 🥵
      Utah is super hot but not humid so we have a little saving Grace

      @@bgrace27 the most important thing with natural gas is it is lighter than air. Where as propane is heavier than air.. Be aware if you ever see fog around a propane tank, it’s leaking gas. Propane is more explosive than natural gas. Same with butane.
      I’m doing some work on the van. My Amazon order is coming today. Woohoo!! I ordered a one piece floor mat for the flooring in the cab. I’ll need regular mats for winter.

    • @bgrace27
      @bgrace27  9 месяцев назад +1

      The previous owner before me actually sprayed it on. It’s just about the only thing I left the way it is on the van!
      I’m not much help for the amount but I will tell you this, the rhino lining is 150% worth it. No scratches, looks custom, I love it

      You really did a great job on the inside.
      I always loved that model van. But nothing beats a full size. Especially when I got it for $1500. With 60,000 on a rebuilt motor.
      I'm definitely going to rino liner it. Really only paint that makes sense for that type of vehicle.
